Question Tethering - Samsung Galaxy A52 4G

Hello xda,
I recently upgraded to a Galaxy A52 (SM-A525M/DS) from an A3 (SM-A320F).
The problem is that while I can hotspot with the A3 I cannot with the A52.
I only switched over my existing sim from A3 to A52.
Internet comes in fine on both phones, well actually internet comes in much better on A52.
A3 can share internet via USB tether and AndoidAP whereas A52 can do neither.
I performed factory reset and no change on A52.
At&t store guys told me it is due to my current plan not having hotspot add on.
So the difference according to them is unlimited versus unlimited plus (At&t designation).
Even though the A3 can supply internet signal via the existing no-hotspot plan...
So I am not convinced this is network controlled but may be controlled via A52 software.
I like the phone and want to keep it but this is either a ridiculous restriction by phone company or a software fubar or I have not configured the A52 properly (even though a vanilla A3 can hotspot with my existing sim plan) or Microsoft has not provided a working NDIS adapter for when A52 is tethered or hotspot enabled.
Has anyone else run in to this?
thanks

ATT charges for hotspot service. Root your phone. I am waiting for delivery of a carrier unlocked A52 5G from Samsung with better pricing than on the open market. I will post a review after I receive it . Hoping to find a debloated stock rom for this phone sometime in the near future.
You can have hotspot access without paying more to ATT but it will take some effort.

Following up... So I received the carrier unlocked phone and have discovered that the 750c Snapdragon chip on this phone is only bootloader unlockable if you pay ransom to a couple of available services. I was disappointed that I didn't do the homework to discover this beforehand. I don't know if I will be returning the phone yet, but this was a surprise that I could have been aware of.
Hoping there is an XDA developer developing a workaround. Sadly, I am not skilled at development. I can only reap the benefits of XDA developer community dedication to personal freedom.

Wifi Tether/Wireless Tether for Root Users

The only version of wifi/wireless tether for root users that works is the most recent experimental build:
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
wifi_tether_v3_0-pre14.apk
From the options menu, you will need to change the device from auto to Samsung Facinate.
This is the only configuration that worked for me. The stability is questionable. I did have to reboot a few times to get wifi working AFTER I turned off wifi-tether.
It did seem to help that I kept wifi on before I started wifi-tether. I don't suggest turning off wifi, then running wifi-tether. Under this scenario, I could not get wifi-tether to work.
YES, I understand I can use the free official version that's built into the phone, BUT I have no intention of seeing a line item of $20 on my wireless bill AFTER the promotion ends next month. VZW might/will just assume you used it once and you got the service until you call to cancel. No thanks with that situation. Going to avoid that like the plague. I would not put it past VZW [insert any phone/cable/cell company] from this dirty little trick.
I have even considered calling VZW to have the promo code taken OFF my account. I just don't trust these companies.
On a side not, I am running ED2 with the voodoov4 kernel.
This method can use the 4G LTE connection for the tethering, right?
I did not do a speed test on the other device, but I am pretty certain it said 4G. I actually would have noticed if it was 3G or 1X because it would have stuck out as my house is covered in 4G love

I'm having a hard time getting this to work with altered beast. Has anyone else found a solution for altered beast wireless tether?
I have this app from my Fascinate and I'm posting this right now on my laptop that is being tethered from 4G from this app. That should clear things up.
I got it working. As a matter of fact, I am tethering at about twice as fast as my previous phone.
I live on a farm where our 3G is spotty, and I'm getting 1.5 Mbps as opposed to 0.6 Mbps previously. I can actually stream stuff now! Very happy.
Try Wired Tethering instead
I can't say much about Wireless Tethering, 'cause I'm really not that interested in it: The battery on the Charge gets drained so fast when downloading 4G data without the WiFi stuff, why add an additional drain?
My philosophy on this is that you're probably going to want to plug your Sammy into something to charge the battery while surfing, so why not plug it into your laptop and go with a Wired Tether instead? It probably will get you faster speeds, to boot.
If you want to try it, I recommend "Easy Tether". (The free Google Code root user "Wired Tether" isn't working right now).
E.T. is a lot cheaper than PDAnet, and personally I think it has a simpler user interface. It doesn't require root access, either. The free version gets you unlimited access to http: sites, but restricts https: sites.
Food for thought.
I use Wireless Tethering 2.0.8, not 3.0.
Been using it since I picked up the phone and rooted it. 2.0.8 works perfectly for me. Ad-hoc not Wireless signal, but still works!
I download a 3gb HD movie in about 15-30 minutes, depending on the speed. That's gotta be LTE 4G speed. I'm pretty sure 1.5mbps cannot download 3gb in that time.
i ran wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre9 on my alteredbeast last night and it worked fine for me. not in a 4g area.
The wireless tether option is the only reason to root in my opinion. Plus its free! When I work overtime details where I just have to sit in the cruiser, wireless tether is the best cause I can watch movies and surf any sites without the city's server blocking me.
I've got a couple rooted Charges..anyone know what wireless tether is the BEST? I know of Barnacle and Wireless Tether...and have used both, neither stands out above or any different really than the other.
I am using barnacle and it is working very well no FCs or issues so far.. just stated a few days ago but i am getting full speed.
my guess is that at some point they will be charging by the usage to stop this practice.. but until then this works great.

Isnt verizon plan on suspending accounts that use 3rd party apps to enable tethiering?
I used to use 46GB of data a month with my imagio and nobody ever said a word, and im already up to 16 with the charge (unfortunately still on 3G). If they are supposedely suspending accounts they would have tore me apart by now. I think once 4G gets established nationwide the carriers are probably gonna change there rates on data, but until then im going to keep paying my 30 a month for UNLIMITED data and use as much as i want

I can't even get tethering to work on my laptop (let alone Galaxy Tab 10.1) through the Droid Charge, with either Barnacle nor Wireless Tether. Did you have any luck?
Can anyone report if this is working in infrastructure mode, or is it just ad-hoc?

Convincing my SIM card that tablet is mobile phone

Hello
I am happy owner of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Samsung Galaxy S3 and 3G Contract for unlimited internet and phone calls sim card. Due to recent policy changes, those greedy dummies blocked all internet access on devices other than mobile phones. As I am really in need to have internet connection on Tablet (mobile phone is not working) I would liketo ask You if it is possible. I need to convince my SIM card that Galaxy Tab 2 is a phone, best if Galaxy S3. Would that be possible and could You help me? I use Cyanogen mod on Galaxy Tab 2

Bump. I've got an extra unlimited data phone plan that I want to use with a tablet, and Verizon keeps trying to tell me that even though the phone and the tablet use the same LTE antennas and protocols, they can't program my phone data plan onto a tablet. Personally I think it's a scam to get more money, and all the carriers seem to be playing by the same rules.
Edit: I spent some more time digging for loopholes in Verizon to use my phone LTE with my tablet. One of the reps said, "You can actually take the sim card from the phone with the 2GB plan, put it into the tablet, and it would work. However, if you tried taking the sim card from one of your unlimited data devices, and tried to put it into the tablet, here's what would happen: The device would recognize the LTE plan, connect with Verizon services, and as soon as the Verizon service recognizes that it's a tablet device on an unlimited data plan, Verizon would discontinue the LTE connection from our end." So essentially, you CAN swap an LTE card from a phone to a tablet, but Verizon monitors this, and does not provide the service if it realizes you have an unlimited data plan on a tablet. Wow, that's very low. Unfortunately, if the same holds true for all the other carriers, then they're all just as bad.
So does anyone happen to know how I can trick the Verizon service into thinking that my tablet is still the same device that the unlimited data sim card came from?
No answers, no answers. 3 UK does the same, they block it themselves.
They want to avoid competition from themselves, as they internet plans would be at disadvantage - 3 offers unlimited broadband for most expensive cell plans.

[RESOLVED] Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) has no Mobile Data on NET10 :((

I have an unlocked Galaxy S3 I535 Verizon phone using Straight Talk
Details:
- Latest ClockworkMod installed
- Latest CyanogenMod (v12) installed
- Straight Talk uses Verizon towers
- the APN's Straight Talk uses is Verizon's
- Phone service works good
- Text messaging works good
- SMS service works good
Now my problem is that I have no internet access via the Mobile Network. I have to connect using a WiFi Network in order for me to gain access to the internet.
I have tried so many different steps to gain access to the internet via the Mobile Network.
And yes... I do have a Straight Talk plan that includes an unlimited data plan up to 3GB but, I never am able to use it.
Can someone please help me out?
Thanks a bunch!
Note: Just an FYI (to those who didn't know)... Straight Talk as well as Trackphone, Net10 and Consumer Cellular (as well as a bunch of other brand names) are all Sister Companies that is owned by the Trackphone Corporation and the Trackphone Corporation does not own any tower's. They are under a contract with many different companies who do own towers allowing their customers to obtain their service via their towers. It's funny that even US Cellular doesn't own any tower's, they have a contract with Verizon to use their tower's. This is why phones like the Galaxy S3 & S4 parts for those two companies are solely interchangeable. Just a Sheldon style "Fun Fact". LOL!

I also had a VZW S3 on straight talk and I had no issues getting mobile data to work. I wish I could suggest something but all I did was get the CDMA sim from straight talk and put it in. I didn't have to change apn settings or anything

I have CyanogenMod 11 & the latest version of ClockworkMod. I haven't heard of any issues related to them...
I finally did what i should have done in the first place (what an A** I am).
NOTE: It would be great for those who are experiencing the same dilemma.
I called NET10 and they had me shut off my cell and a few minutes later asked me to turn it back on and, ABRACADABRA, I got mobile data.
NOW I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 with an unlocked bootloader and rooted.
It has ClockworkMod (CWM) Touch v6.0.4.5, CyanogenMod (CM) v12 & TKGapps PICO v5.1.x.
I have NET10 with Mobile Data working at 4G LTE Speeds.
As i stated above, i feel like a total A** not calling NET10 in the first place LOL )
I would like to finally thank everyone who tried to help me with various ideas to try and i tried everything i can think of and find (without crapping the phone LOL! ))

Moving from Note 5 to Moto One G Ace question

Greetings!
I've been on a Sprint/T mobile Galaxy note 5 for awhile. T mobile said I must upgrade to 5G or lose service in Jan.
I am choosing between One Plus Nord N200 or N10 and the Ace 5G.
Before I commit, if anyone can answer this. I mainly use Wifi hotspot to my PC. I have a ROM on my Note and It works fine without having a special T mobile Hotspot plan.
Can anyone recommend a ROM that would give me the Hotspot ability? Is there any other means to get unlimited hotspot?
How is the wifi and 5G/LTE on the One 5G Ace? I ask because I was leaning toward the low end Samsung A32, but read it has issues keeping connected via wifi etc. And Data and Hotspot is my primary use for the phone.
Thanks
Max

Wifi for receiving is perfect, working Wifi n equipment. As a tether machine, dunno man what to say.
I am using Micromax Bharat 2 for lte tethering and always on working with charger, coz it was my temporary phone for $40 in 2019. One thing i know when i was making my choice i learned about 5G chips and technology itself and it runs Qualcomm Snapdragon 750 G which one of few in High-end class chips using mm-waves along with standart 5G. Depending on your plan and carrier it should be fine. Read wiki about Snapdragons and features and then make a search which phone best for price , technology offers, NFC , solid RAM + Diskspace, display features for such not big price was offered only by Motorola + 2 year software updates, So decision fall to Moto before buying used Google Pixels with drained batteries. And honestly searching for great price offer in USA was like searching needle/pencil in US market after shipped it internationally to my location.
One thing you may notice - Bluetooth WORKS ROCK SOLID, Not only 5.1 version (Bluetooth LE) but also options in Developer options - once you changed them , they work as they should be - switching codes, channels, max users and so on. Sound is so brilliant even on $20 wireless headphones. Unlik on Pixel 1st - when i open developer option change value , turn off device and have to do it again and again. Plus 5000 mAh battery and so on, so on.
Take a few reviews specifically for wifi - from Cnet guys or someone else to see what you will get from wifi.
Best Regards
Nick
Thank's Nick!
Most likely going with Moto. They started Cel phones back in the day, and I assume their radios are top notch.
I have unlimited Data from my carrier in the US T-mobile. I don't have broadband where I use my desktop so have been very happy with wifi hotspot on my Galaxy Note 5 with LTE. But like I said, they no longer support the Note five in a few weeks. I have the MOAR custom rom on it and that gives me the hotspot without being charged extra by T-Mobile.
I will try the Liniage ROM on the MOTO and hope its Hotspot works the same.
Thanks for your reply!
Best wishes

We have 3 Moto ACe 5g's on T-Mobile. Great phone. You don't need a custom ROM. Just root the phone and use VPN Hotspot App.

Share unlimited 5G data with other devices w/o hotspot plan?

I scoured the internet for the last few hours trying to determine if there is still a way to use an app, or some other method to essentially hotspot my phone, without a hotspot plan. My phone is network unlocked from OnePlus directly, and I have unlimited everything (not even cap throttling) through US Mobile, but they changed their hotspot services (afaik) after they moved to "WARP 5G." Last year I switched to them from Google Fi SPECIFICALLY because of the hotspot capability, and I don't want to start paying for it now, especially considering the Warp 5G capability is on their SUPER LTE (Verizon) specific sim, while I can only use their GSM (T-Mobile) sim.
I digress. Is there an app or ROM/Root method that will let me share my phones data with say, an iPad, or other phone? PDAnet and Foxfi only repeat whatever Wi-Fi signal my phone is connected to, and this is not what I'm looking for. (Woe 2012 3g pdanet)
Edit: it appears im a fool and just didnt figure out how to tether via BT to an ipad. In the mean time, if any of you have some decent ideas, im still all ears for if/when i need a back up plan
