USB connection works only sometimes on SAMSUNG S4 ValueEdition (lineage-18.1-20210717-nightly-jfvelte-signed.zip) - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have installed the last LineageOS 18.1 (Android 11) on a SAMSUNG S4 Value Edition.
I got almost everything working, but the USB connection.
Settings-System-Advanced-Developer Options-Default USB Configuration = File Transfer
Now, if I go in System-Connected Devices and the USB cable is plugged in it should appear OTHER DEVICES - USB connection but it doesn't !!! It actually does appear but only very very rarely and randomly !!!
Please offer feedback, many thanks !
Regards

You set USB-mode to File Transfer ( AKA MTP ): File transfer will change your phone to USB mass storage, allowing you move files between the phone and the other device (such as your computer). To access phone in this USB-mode requires another driver.

Many thanks for the quick reply.
But that was the idea! I want to be able to access the S4 jfvelte internal memory (pictures, docs, etc) from a PC.
My expectation was that when I connect the phone to the PC (Win10) via USB cable I can access the phone from WinExplorer but this is NOT so... only very rarely the phone is shown in Explorer.
Contrariwise when I connect another (real) S4 with the official Android 5 I can always access the phone from the PC.

Does it mean that one should update the jfvelte USB driver first ?
If YES how can I do this ?
Where can I find the right USB driver ?

On windows PC install the MTPdrive 4.1 app - a trial version - what is attached:
MTPdrive is intended to map devices to a drive letter. It works with all devices that operate in MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode.

Done. However I cannot notice any change.
The phone is still not visible in Explorer.
If I start the MTPdrive.exe there is no device detected:

I have just installed the last UBS drivers from SAMSUNG (Samsung-USB-Driver-v1_7_43_0.zip) on the Win10 PC.
The Samsung S4 phone (jfvelte - Lineage 18.1) behaves in the same way, namely the phone is most of the time not accessible from the PC via the USB cable. This looks to be a LineageOS 18.1 jfvelte bug. Any idea if there is a way to talk with the LineageOS developers, eventually to report such an issue ?

Hi,
The topic is solved: it was because the phone screen was locked ! as soon as one connects the USB cable to the phone AFTER unlocking the phone screen it works as expected, meaning one can access the files/pictures etc which are being stored on the phone !!!
Many thanks for all !!!

Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 - Russian Lolilop update?

Hey guys,
So I got my hands on a Note Pro collecting dust and wanted to update it.
I believe its originally a Russian device.
I have no sim card installed and OTA will not work (gets server errors)
The US 5.1.1 OTA update fails out and I noticed the CSC-code it is looking for is SER
Oh yeah, Odin won't detect the device. Keis is useless and the new Smart Switch doesn't help much either
I think I need a Russian version of the update. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've been hunting all day and can't find much.

If your device is rooted ota will not work(use root checker on play store to confirm) therefore, we will use the odin way. The software being russian or not does not matter as we are using odin now...for odin to get the device to recognise is to do:
1: check connecting your device to your pc with different usb cable.
2:Try changing usb ports
3:Re-install samsung usb drivers
4: Reply and tell me if the operating system of your pc is windows 7 or not.
5:Go into developer mode (activate it by pressing the build number of your device in phone settings) then turn usb debugging option on..........Though not sure but may work!
6: Hit the thanks button!!

The device is not rooted.
All stock and reset.
Tried different ports
Already reinstalled drivers.
Debugging mode is on
Odin doesn't recognize.
Using Win 7
For some reason, Odin saw it out of the blue. Never restarted my computer. Used the same port.
Got it updated

In case it happens again go to driver manager from control panel and see if the icon for the note pro has a caution sign if it does then you you should click the uninstall driver option and then right click anywhere and click the scan for hardware option. this has happened to me as well and I did this amd it recognizes my note pro instantly.check it out. Try to install this : https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/88481 ( This will install Motorola Drivers to PC)
Use a Data cable, that has ability to Charge your MotoG, Others data cables which cannot charge your phone can be useless in sometimes..
no need of keeping USB DEBUGGING - ON
if your phone does not connect .. Do one thing, Install Mobogenie, and Do as it says..

SM-530W device driver error unable to flash Stock ROM

Long story short, my older bro asked if I could fix his phone that crashed during the middle of a regular system update, and now what was suppose to be an easy recovery has brought me here to seek enlightenment, as I feel like I've just about exhausted all of the options I can at this point.
Some of the issues present
Hangs / Loops on Samsung Galaxy boot logo.
Sometimes when connecting USB displays water damage warning with consistent vibration in 2-3 second intervals until phone is restarted or powered bringing me back to issue #1 all over again.
Does not recall it being damaged by water in the past.
Phone not recognized by Windows - device manager displays (Error 43 : Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed) and the control panel device troubleshooter does not find any resolution to solve the issue.
Which leaves the device unable to be seen by ADB/Fastboot, unable to be seen by Odin to flash ROM, TWRP, Clockworkmod, also unable to disable FRP or encryption.
Some of the following things I've done / tried.
Installing several versions of the Samsung Android USB Drivers
Reinstall/Update/Uninstall all USB drivers
Automatically & manually updating driver in Device Manager
Running the troubleshooter via right clicking device in Control Panel
Erasing all traces of (broken) connected USB devices from the registry
Tried a different Windows PC
Tried three separate USB cables, all of which are OEM Samsung
Tried various USB 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 ports
Placing the stock firmware renamed as "update.zip" in the root directory of SD Card then entering recovery mode and, mounting SD card, wiping cache / data, and selecting the option to Recover/Update from SD Card (phone restarts instantly and brings back to boot logo hang / loop).
Software I've used:
Samsung Android USB Driver (Lastest):
Samsung Android USB Driver | Samsung Developers
You need the driver only if you are developing on Windows and want to connect a Samsung Android device to your development environment over USB.

Android SDK Platform-Tools for Windows:

I'm fairly confident that it is not an issue with the USB ports on the either PC, as my Samsung Galaxy A51 connects and is recognized just fine on both, which is leading me to believe it's either bricked to the point it unable to communicate properly by Plug n Play means, or the USB port on the phone could be damaged by means other than water.
Any help, suggestions, even some opinions please I beg of you before I end up in the nuthouse lol!
Try installing drivers from a separate source?

Going back to stock ROM

Hi everyone. Could someone please direct me to a guide for going back to the stock firmware? I have been looking everywhere with no luck at all.

This page doesn't like playing with mobile browsers, so if you've got a blank page change the browser to desktop mode.
All required downloads are in the guide.
The Mi Flash Tool will lock the bootloader, by default, after flashing. If you don't want to do this, then change the option at the bottom of the tool before flashing (step 5)
If you wish to lock the bootloader, you must make sure the ROM region matches the phone, i.e. global ROM on a global phone.

However, I'm having a lot of trouble with the tool. It will not recognize my phone. I connect it, and the computer detects the phone. Then I click on "refresh" on the tool, and automatically the USB device is disconnected from the computer and the tool will not recognize it.
I have installed the Qualcomm and ADB drivers, rebooted and nothing changes.

Then, after hitting refresh (device still connected on Fastboot):
Any ideas?
Thanks again
Sounds like a dodgy USB connection.
Try using the best USB cable you can find. If that doesn't work, try using a different computer. Fastboot and adb are very sensitive to the quality of the USB connection.
My old laptop will happily connect normally to my phone and I can transfer files with no issues, but from about a year ago I can no longer use adb and fastboot, with similar problems you are seeing. Using the same phone and cable I have no issues with my wife's laptop.

Hello!.
Can someone who understands the subject explain to me how the startup architecture of an android device works at the hardware/software level.
I recently completely lost control of my android device, after some problems flashing a corrupt rom. I don't understand if I deleted any important files or what happened, but my device is not detected by any computer, leaving me unable to use adb or any USB flash tool. I also don't know if this problem has to do with the usb card, since this, if it sends power, the device charges, and is detected by the computer as a generic usb.

The "device descriptor request:failed) issue is more than likely not a problem with your device, it is more commonly a problem with your PC or your device drivers that are installed on your PC.
If you do a Google search for:
"Unknown USB device(device descriptor request: failed)"
It should find links to guides and videos with troubleshooting steps to solve this issue. Try the methods they describe, sometimes you have to repeat the solution several times before the issue is corrected.
