Head over to your phone Settings. You can do this by swiping down from the top of your phone's screen. Then tap the settings icon at the top-right corner.
Go to Network & Internet > Data usage. You'll see the amount of data you've used at the top of that menu.
Select App data usage to see how much data each app has used recently.
Check through the list and tap the app that uses the most data. For instance, you may be surprised how much data YouTube alone uses.
Toggle off Background data to turn off cellular data for specific apps.
Turn off Unrestricted data as well if it's not off already. That keeps the app in check when data saver is active.
Not disable entirely but restrict to some extent.
Thank you for the information Kenora. I have disabled background data usage and unrestricted data as well. But I want to completely restricting data.

I am not aware of that feature in android.
This is the way of restricting data as I have discovered before.
I do not know if it is possible but I will look into it.

Depending on your model and version of the Android OS, the specific settings' names might be slightly different.
1. Start the Settings app.
2. Tap "Wireless & networks" and then tap "Data usage."
3. Tap "Network access."
4. In the list of apps, clear the checkbox for any apps you don't want using cellular data.

Yeah, but it uses data.
For example : I use this option to stop ads while playing some games, which do not require any data . These games use data just to display ads. So I used to disable data and I can play games without any ads.
Now in this mobile(IQOO7), first of all we don't have an option to restrict data usage completely . Even if you restrict the background usage, still these ads are coming up in the games.
Hmm yeah unfortunately we cant disable it because the software isnt having rhe feature. Im sure Samsung and other flagship phones have it though.

Yes , most of the smart phones have this feature. It's an basic feature. I don't know why #iqoo not included this feature in this flagship mobile.
Hi @RockStar8
Any idea about this ?
Android doesn't disable complete internet access by default in any of its OS. This can be done however using third party VPN based ad blocking apps.
Ehen the VPN would be connected, the disabled access app won't connect to internet.

Well, I guess. But the VPN would decrease the speed of the overall network.
Samsung and Oneplus do allow it though. But android on its own doesn't as you said.

The type of VPN app I'm suggesting works differently.
It doesn't connect to any server but simply acts as a firewall.
I have used this type of application before and they work pretty well.
You can use no root firewall for that matter.
Sure, yeah you could do that. But implementing the feature makes it way simpler in the first place

Hi every one, before starting i'm sorry for my english i'm a french dude ...
So, a lot a friend asked me to help them for Firewall Android. i thought it was a good idea to make a post on it so every one can be satisfied ^^
( the pics are in french ... but the placement of the items are the same just the language that change)
What's Android Firewall:

RROOT ACCES REQUIRED !
Android Firewall is a strong DroidWall ipstables using the firewall Overkill linus. Android firewall allows you to prevent the connection of your app's on internet.
This is the perfect solution for you do not have an unlimited internet package on your device, or if you just want your battery power stay longer.
It is really simple to use and works very good !
Let's start !
So first of all download Android Firewall at this LINK <-- click here or copy and paste
( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...rewall&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd )
2- when you will open your app Super User will ask you if you whant to allow or denie this app :
Allow the app (if not it wont work ! )
3- select the mode, if you want Black list or White list.
Black list: denied selected apps
White list: enable selected apps
4- Select the app you want to block or allow (depends the mode you have selected) and chose WIFI or Network. (what i do is the app that i want to synchronies while i'm at home with my wifi i blog only the network and it work fine)
Little trick if you want to tick all the app you have a little icone at the right after network ans VPN that says 'unselect all" or "reverse"
5- Open the menu and select the firewall rules. if it is already active, select just apply the rules.
6- you can edit profile (it's really cool if you often go out of you country area) really simple
Just up of the Option mode select profile edit (don't really now it i translated well there a picture)
When done you can select the profile by the maine windows :
7- When you are done APPLY THE RULES
The rules will be saved and automatically restored when you restart your phone.
if you want to check the active rules, select -> see the rules in the options menu.
Hope this post will help you, for any question go ahead and ask them

I've been in contact with Jason (the developper) he is aware of the VPN problem and it is on his roadmap.
He gave me a workaround:
just add permissions for "Applications running as root" and it should work.
For me it did.
Hope this helps,
Marcel.
Streaming media issue (youtube, ted, browser...)
I have wifi access enabled for youtube, TED, dolphin browser. I am on wifi. When I enable the firewall, I cannot stream media to the phone. On TED for example, I can download a video and then watch it but I cannot stream it. Any idea which other application I must enable to get this to work?
When I disable the firewall, I can stream video in all applications.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thank you.
Where to download the apk? It looks like that Google Play removed it.

Why?
And by "enable" media server you mean tick media server so it does NOT have access or not?
I'd like to know your reason to why you suggest so.
Also, can you suggest a good firewall. I'm confused between some apps.
Thanks.
@control freak I don't know why but it worked for me. You just try to give media server internet access, pay attention to white list and black list.
We are thinking of separating APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze and make two different Apps.
With ToolWiz Privacy you can still protect your personal info against big data tracking of APPs. In addition, we will add album locker to protect your photos from spying eyes and small tools to clear your browser history.
APP Freeze will be an independent APP aiming at extending battery life and avoiding big data roaming bills. We help you better manage your smartphone by killing background service of APPs and preventing them from auto-start.
What do you think of the idea? Your opinion is more than welcome.
---
Hey,
We are a small team focusing on android security and we developed a tool called ToolWiz Privacy. This APP aims to protect android phone users against data collecting and ads pushing APPs. Moreover, we want to help users extend battery life of their smartphones.
Now we have our beta test version(1.01) and we would like to invite you to join us and make it better.
ToolWiz Privacy has two main functions—APP Freeze and Privacy Freeze.
You can freeze your APPs so that they are completely locked and banned from being active or running in the background. The frozen APPs can only be opened from ToolWiz Privacy.
You can freeze your privacy so that APPs can only get access to your fake personal information. You can edit fake privacy info (fake phone number, location, IMEI…) yourself and block unwanted actions of APPs(sending and receiving text message, making and receiving phone calls…) in settings.
It’s the first APP in the world to help you to get rid of big data tracking and it makes your Android phone keep running for more than 20 hours without charging.
Check if you are able to use ToolWiz Privacy:

Tried your app and unless I misunderstood you have 1 set of "fake data" used by all the apps....this is not going to work out well as you might want SOME apps to be able to get your real location but still be unable to send or receive text messages....or stop one app from sending notifications but allow everything else....ideally you need to be able to specify what needs to be faked per app. I also found various spots where the english text had "shadow" chinese characters behind it.
Finally autostart and background running should be considered seperate when "freezing"....I might have music apps I want to allow to run in background but NOT autostart on bootup......and vice versa I might have an app I want to run on bootup such as changelog droid that grabs the list of changes to apps that have been updated since last boot but NOT allow it to run in background. It looked like app freeze was an all or nothing thing.
Good luck with the app.

Thanks for your suggestions, we've updated a new version apk file in this post. And our developers are heading to solve the problem you've mentioned, configure different 'fake data' for every single app.Maybe you can see that in next version.
Actually when an app is frozen by our tools, autostart and background services can be configured separately.Just click the app you added, and you can see that autostart and services are list separately, moreover every background services can be configured as you want.
If you want some apps not running in background, just try it! And we'll do better!
This app has a lot of potential, so far so good.. I would like to also privacy freeze system apps tho , and also choose fake info specifically for each app, Like this app.. ???

Thanks a lot, freezing system apps and editing fake data for each app are already on our TODO list.
Maybe you can meet with them a few days later.
This is a promising application, but is there a way to ignore certain apps? It's annoying to see the red when I know the app that's in the red to be safe.

Hello, dear friends! I (and many other OneUI 4 users) stumbled upon a problem of "System UI" constantly (every 3-5 minutes) accessing the location (as seen from Permission Usage).
In my case turning off Wi-Fi, mobile data or bluetooth does not stop the location usage. No location-based Bixby routines are running, no Smart Tags are used. Every single option regarding location (apart from completely disabling it) is toggled off - but the location keeps getting used by System UI. The only way to stop it is, of course, to simply turn off location entirely.
Resetting all settings or just network ones does not help.
If you google "System UI constanly accessing location" you will find a lot of people with this problem, but so far no solution has been found.
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
Yeap, quit invasive behavior.
I turn off location unless I need it to be running.
My N10+/Pie behaves the same way.
Wearables will not run without location permissions however if location is disabled it will run. I normally run with Google play Services disabled as well unless needed.

That's interesting. You sure it's not chewing up bandwidth at the same time? That can definitely cause lagging. Try in safe mode to rule out a 3rd party app. The possibility of malware comes to mind or perhaps it's a glitch indigenous to that firmware.
If you can't find the root cause sometimes a work around is the only solution.

Find my Device is something I don't miss.
Ha-ha you figured out that it needed to be disabled as System Administrator to toggle off Google Play Services
Keeping it with you at all times* and never lay it down unless in a secured location. It's a responsible frame of mind that many have lost as a skillset. There's no substitute for physical security.
It seems a bit complicated at first, but it's really not once you understand the flow put and dependencies. After a bit it becomes second nature to use the device like this. A little extra time in return for better SOT and security.
*I always wear bdu pants so the N10+ easily and securely nests in the cargo pocket. Easy as pie.
Develop a carry method that works well for you and protects the device. Get in the habit of making a mental note were you laid it down in the house, etc. Be consistent. Lol, my N10+ and my Gerber Strongarm are always with me
I'm happy with the battery performance, but only when the screen is on. When I use the phone mostly with the screen on, I get good SOT(6-9 hours), but with the screen off, the battery consumption is terrible. How can I pull this down?
Probably a cloud app; try temporarily disabling Google play Services, Google backup is a dependency as is Playstore, Gmail. Some apps also need it to run. I enable it once or twice a day. Disabled saves 1+%@hr.
Trashware social media apps like fb, WhatsApp etc shouldn't be installed. It all adds up.
6 hours SOT with a 5002 mAh battery isn't good, 9 hrs is fair to poor. That said all Samsung's should be optimized for best performance.
Thanks for your opininon. Are you saying we shouldn't use Whatsapp? Is it real solution?
Unfortunately, because of SD 8 gen 1 limitations (probably worse on Exynos variant), about 6-7 hours SOT is best you're going to get on the S22 ultra.
Try the following guide here & see if it helps your battery life.
I have the Exynos version. My phone has a SOT of about 10 to 12 hours. Rooted and bebloated. I do have the brightness very low though.
Android 13.
OneUI 5.
Latest.
Lightly debloated.
That's interesting. I guess depends on what apps the phone is using during SOT.......
Mind sharing your battery usage breakdown screenshot?

Real as it gets. All social media apps should never be installed. Many should even be logged on to. WhatsApp track record is stunningly bad.
Lots of users means its got a huge bullseye on it even if they try to secure it, it will hacked again like the sun rises in the morning... for sure. Meanwhile phishing scams run under the radar and count on you screwing up. And many do.
You got to ask yourself one question,

No really. The problem is that all the apps developed by Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp) are power hogs. Meta does not care if it chews up battery. The primary reason is that Meta is shoving ads in your face. Even when your screen is off, those apps are running in the background. Meta is not the only offender. There are plenty of other app developers that do the same thing.
Also, there are different "flavors" of Android. Each OEM implements it differently (even within the OEMs). This makes it less cost effective to customize their apps for each OEM. There is only one flavor of iOS and iPadOS, so it is much easier to tweak it for iPhones and iPads than it is for Android devices.
I understand. Thanks. I have another question. You said you turned off google play services. When I turn it off, notifications do not work and many applications do not work. How do you overcome this situation?

It doesn't effect any notifications for me that I use except Gmail. Most my apps run without it. I tend to shun those that do.
Some of the Samsung apps take the place of Google apps, no need to run both.
If killing Google play Services helps at night it's likely Google backup Transport running.
Hello, I have something to ask about. I need to know if there is any ability to store a system application variables usin adb. Imagine that I want to open my settings app and do something mabye a confirmation dialog will be shown in order to say something such as alert for something supposed that I did click on OK, i the normal case this alert will never be shown even if you clear the settings app data or clear the cash, is there any way to use adb to store the settings app data before opening it the if anything as the previous senario happened I can restore the settings app to the moment before clicking on the OK button or even before this alert has shown

Many apps that "need" Google play Services are Playstore pay apps. This can be circumvented by first allowing the app to activate, then firewall blocking their internet connection. Firewall block Playstore as well although it should be disabled except when needed.
If an app doesn't need internet access to function it should be firewall blocked anyway.
