Saw today an article stating that one of the android kitkats goal is to uniformize the android ecosystem. Meaning the there are a lot of android versions still out there and still selling, even though they are outdated, like GB. Kitkat is design to work even on low end devices like ours, with low ram. It's mainly because developers have a hard time with apps compatibility for different android versions... So, therevwont be any excuse to.why providers shouldnt update to 4.4. My phone, for instance, JLo, came out hardly a year ago, and already support as ended. I paid little for it, but thats for the hardware specs. No excuse not to update it to 4.4 when it comed out. Do you think it will ever happen?
It's almost sure that sony won't update our phones. CM 10.3 from FXP? Well, it will be their good wish in fact. But honestly I think thats is to soon for such speculations Time will show. Greetings
not officially but
http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/1...rt-to-devices-with-as-little-as-512mb-of-ram/
if you've used Android 4.1 or later on a phone or tablet with 1GB of RAM, you know things can get a little tight in the memory department. That's what makes newer and slightly underpowered devices like the Lenovo Yoga a little disappointing. Google has decided to trim the fat with Android 4.4 in an initiative they've christened "Project Svelte." This isn't a single change, it's a wide range of additions to the Android API and optional hardware configurations designed to make KitKat run smoothly on devices with as little as 512MB of system memory.
According to the new 4.4 developer page, Project Svelte starts with recommendations and options targeted at device manufacturers. Specifically:
Dalvik JIT code cache tuning
kernel samepage merging (KSM)
swap to zRAM
tune out-of-memory levels for processes
set graphics cache sizes
control memory reclaim
When it comes to pure software, core processes have been trimmed to use less memory and protect system memory from hungry apps. Android will also launch concurrent services in sequence instead of all at once to prevent slowdown. Imagine it as cleaning out the Startup folder in Windows, except that it's all happening behind the scenes. Developers also have access to the new ActivityManager.isLowRamDevice API, allowing memory-hogging features to be enabled and disabled as needed. Google will be integrating this feature into its own first-party apps, so even those with more powerful hardware should see at least some benefit.
Project Svelte isn't going to magically make older devices compatible with 4.4 - even Google's own Galaxy Nexus (with 1GB of RAM) isn't getting an official update, likely because of the aging OMAP SoC. But this will hopefully help devices like the original Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, not to mention upcoming low-end phones that will launch with 4.4, to better handle resources as apps become more hardware intensive.

isn´t there a problem with the cpu driver , ithink i heard something like that???
send from my extremly old notebook that has only 512mb too XD
no. no. no. and once again no.
so i think it´s possible that sony gives us an update ... my dream: xperia j in aosp would be cool and i hope that become real cause android kitkat is for low end´s so it is possible that our device add to aosp
and it´s only my opinion
Of course it's never coming to Xperia Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo, J, E. You guys will remain on Android 4.0/4.1 forever. You guys must remember, you are all the budget, low end Sony phones. Sony rather put their effort on more expensive phones. Besides, even the dual core, 1GB RAM, Galaxy Nexus is not getting Android 4.4.
Of course not from sony, even not from FXP Team. We are talking about some talented developer here.

Sorry!
Galaxy Nexus doesn't get KitKat.
Because it is google market strategy.
512MB is Google say to get smooth experience on KitKat.

Same for Sony: it's a marketing strategy.
Sony will save development dollars not upgrading budget phones like Xperia E or Tipo and focus resources on phones like Xperia Z or S.

Some reviews question the performance of the exynos model... Have there been samsung software updates addressing the issues? Im also confused as to whether the 8 cores are simultaneously used or not in 5420( HMP feature , or whatever its called),

The Exynos 5420 currently runs as a dual quad-core cpu. Either the four A7 cores are active, or when more performance is needed, the A7s turn off and the four A15 cores get enabled. From what I've read, HMP (having all 8 cores enabled simultaneously) will be enabled with a new kernel.

Apparently Samsung has some optimization work to do, with its octacore processor.

Basically i am getting worried about the exynos version as in reviews there have been reports of stuttering or lag. Can that be mitigated by the user? Has there been any software update seen launch ? What were the changes / improvements, if any?

Do you already have it in hand or is it still being shipped to you? Do you plan to root and debloat it?
Every use case is different but I can't say that I have much to complain about in terms of lag on this device. Maybe chrome but even there with some tweaks things can be improved.
Apparently, it will be shipped tomorrow and will arrive in a couple of more days thereon.. Thanks Any more feedback will be appreciated

You didn't mention your intention to root or not. IMO it will make a difference. Totally understandnot wanting to at first though. Using a third party launcher and adjusting animation scale in developer options helps too.
Between freezing applications in titanium backup and tweaking things using xposed modules or multi window app tweaks I've done so many tweaks to my device I don't know if I could name them all. Throughout it all the tablet performs admirably. I'm no gamer though.

Not rooting at first due to warranty considerations. I guess no samsung updates since launch? Im just wondering whether they are gonna optimize things for exynos etc and support it properly

Yeah my advice would be to not worry too much about benchmarks. Up until now I haven't run any on this device but I did install linpak and quadrant this morning to check. Both results are inconsistent with the article that was linked earlier in this thread. Linpak was consistently over 400 and got as high as 477 (each time claiming inconsistent results in its report) and quadrant showed a very low score of 11,000 or so.
Unless you game heavily though I'm sure things will work out fine for you.

The note pros expos 5420 actually outperforms the snapdragon 800 in cpu
Power. The four in the snapdragon is a bit faster though. All in all the processors are practical equals in performance. The note pro wifi exynos 5420 is powerful enough to run any app or game you can download at high settings (minus those games specifically optimized for the snapdragon or tegra) I am pretty picky with devices and the note pro wife stock is one of the smoothest devices I have ever used. It certainly outperforms any tablet and only barely falls behind its little brother the note 3 in speed. The note 3 is smoother but I think this is due to the lower pixel count on the screen lowering the go load. The note pro wifi version will run emulators better than the snapdragon as well. Rooting will also do a lot for your performance by removing bloatware.

There is really never a safe way to overclock any type of CPU or GPU the max safe setting IS what it is already set at 9 out of 10 times according to most CPU manufacturers IE Intel and AMD. Therefore, I would logically assume that since they recommend NOT going over the recommended settings, because you technically CAN fry out the CPU if not careful at any setting past the max safe setting the CPU is at stock no matter how little the tweak its possible. Not saying it will happen, but just saying its always a risk there is nothing safe when overclocking.
Few months back, I saw a video on youtube, in which the developer Guillaume Lesniak tapped Qualcomm’s QDSP6V5 low-power DSP core to enable touchless control, which Qualcomm boasts as snapdragon voice activation but denies to provide the api. Is there any way to activate this functionality, especially tap to wake up without comprising battery life. I wonder why Qualcomm is repudiating from releasing the api. I could not get any specific details on internet. I thought android lollipop has this functionality on supported devices. Does nexus 5 having snapdragon 800 does not qualify for this? Any info would be highly appreciated.

Who was that guy? You know, once it's online, it never goes offline.
BTW
That functionality is present in Qualcomm fluence pro suite. OEMs need to pay for it. AFAIK.

if he had secretly published it we would be much better off!
I see the M5 Mediapads are going to start receiving the GPU Turbo later in the month.
"Huawei, via its official Weibo*account, has announced that its latest Android tablet, the*Huawei Mediapad M5*would be getting a new software update that will bring to it the game boasting*GPU Turbo technology. The update is set to roll out this month, and that will make the Mediapad M5 the first tablet to have the tech in place. No specific*date has been announced for the update to arrive, but it's certain it will arrive sooner."
https://www.gizchina.com/2018/07/11/huawei-mediapad-m5-to-get-gpu-turbo-with-next-update/
Not sure if this also includes Oreo 8.1, but will be interesting to see if there are noticable improvements in performance and battery.

Thanks. Interesting what it will bring. In terms of power efficiency, I already think it's fine. The major power drain is from the display when it's on.
Guess I should test the update just released for the Pro edition with regard to this.

Yeah, I think the battery efficiency is specific to gaming in the turbo mode, it's meant to improve performance by 60%, while at the same time using 30% less battery.....
But I agree in general very happy with the battery life on my M5 Pro.
Unfortunately their was never any real explanation of how Huawei are achieving this GPU Turbo feat, but for gamers to have faster frame rates with far less battery is great if true.

Yeah I don't think it would of been included (although your link to did say Power and Battery optimizations), but all of the other Kirin 970 devices that have implemented the 'GPU Turbo' have had to register on Huaweis private forums. https://club.huawei.com/forum.html
So not sure if the M5 tablets will just get a general roll-out or will also have to enrol for the beta.
In fact it looks like it will start private beta in mid July .
https://club.huawei.com/thread-16416385-1-1.html
So we won't likely see a general release until the end of month or a bit after I think....
While I still haven't recieved the C432 update for my M5 Pro, I decided to load the Huawei Firmware Finder tool...
I can see that there has been 2 releases of the GPU Turbo update for the tablets, that are available....
The latest at least for CMR-W19 and CMR-AL19 pro models is CMR-AL19C00B171 (8.0.0.171) from 14th of July
This update adds the Huawei GPU Turbo acceleration technology, which improves graphic processing efficiency.
Adds the Huawei GPU Turbo acceleration technology. You can now enjoy smoother gaming. It's recommended that you enable Gaming mode in Game Suite for a better gaming experience.
Adds the HiTouch feature for online shopping. You can tap product images with two fingers to activate product recognition.
Optimizes the system power consumption in certain scenarios.
Optimizes compatibility with several third-party apps.
Integrates Google security patches released in Jun 2018 for improved system security.

Apparently the GPU Turbo is now officially available for the MediaPad M5 as an OTA update.

I still haven't recieved the C432 update with June security patch.
Starting to become a little annoyed with Huawei and their updates or lack thereof.
Yes the China version seem to got the Gpu turbo update, hope the eu version get it soon. I'm not worry about updates as this point from Huawei, M5 got 3 updates already, my M2 get if I remember right 2 ota updates in 2 years period ?? they forgot that device completely. Hope they do a better job this time.

Yes it just seems annoying that others have June security patch, I'm still on May, and I can already see July security patch in the firmware finder.
As for the GPU Update, I'm concerned that I've seen written that Huawei aren't updating US model phones with GPU Turbo, and I unfortunately purchased from Amazon US.
If I don't receive the GPU turbo update, this would be my first and last Huawei product. :crying:
Any review?
Hello
I bought samsung's latest phone galaxy A13(european version) recently without looking at specs and turns out it's running a 5 year old chip. Which is very slow.
What do you guys suggest to fix the performance? My friend recommended that I should install some custom rom's on it. Like the performance is so bad that you can compare it to my old galaxy A5 but my previous A50 is twice as fast. A5 ran android 8 but on the A13 they decided to put android 12 on it which is really taxing the cpu and ram. I tried debloating it with ADB app control, I put alot of unused apps in deep sleep mode and it's still slow...
I know custom roms are kinda dangerous and I can brick my new phone but I don't want it to be slow you know
Thank you for helping me
A phone gets slow when its CPU gets stressed.
Hence do a true uninstall of all apps - system-privileged apps included - you never will use and restrict amount of concurrently running apps to 1.
Root end debloated ROM.
Combine root with Greenify and Servicely but use with caution. They could end up doing damage.

If you use 2 or more social media apps, you won't get much improvement in performance regardless of what you try to do to improve it.
I thought the A13 came with an Exynos 850 SoC which came out in 2020.
Or is it the Mediatek Helio SoC similar to the A12? Whatever the case, there doesn't seem to be any custom ROM development for it. The package manager disable method might improve things slightly if disabling Google Services Framework. Google vending and GMS as well as other apps you don't want. https://www.xda-developers.com/disable-system-app-bloatware-android/
