In the latest version default finger print setting is changed to “Press” from “Touch”

Can only lock screen using 'password' all other options are not available

This is for the US Cellular Galaxy S3.
Recently I had encrypted my phone and the Galaxy forced me to use a password for my lock screen, which is fine; I wouldn't expect it to allow any less secure method, but I have since unencrypted the device and still find myself unable to change my lock screen preferences. When I go into Settings>Security>Screen Lock I am prompted to confirm my password and then I am presented with the alternative screen lock options. The problem is that everything is greyed out except for the Password option. Every other screen lock method is greyed and says 'Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage' and I can't select anything.
I just want to change back to a PIN but it won't let me
I have tried going into 'Device Administrators' to clear something out or just see what I could do in there and there are no device administrators available. Also, I have tried the 'Clear credentials' option, to no avail.
I'm running stock 4.0.4 ROM, rooted.

I had that issue before, but clearing the credentials fixed it for me. It happened after i installed a VPN. You may want to just wipe your phone and go fresh.
There's an option to encrypt the contents of your phone (under Security, I think). If that's enabled for some reason, it might force you to use the most secure option.

The phone had already been decrypted by the time I was trying to change the screen lock.
Interestingly the options came available after I decrypted the SD card that I had in the phone. The only reason I didn't do this before was because I had initially taken the SD card out of the phone thinking that would alleviate me of any restrictions that it might be causing regarding the lock screen, or anything else for that matter.

I had this issue as well after installing a VPN on a different device and clearing the credentials fixed it for me as well.

ANSWER
I had this problem on my S3 (firmware ver 4.4.2) recently when I set up a VPN connection and I was forced to change from a pattern screen lock to a 4-digit pin lock. After testing and removing the VPN connection I could not change my screen lock back to pattern because nearly all screen lock options were greyed out. After hours of calls to Verizon and Samsung I found a solution that worked for me.
Go to Settings\Application Manager.
Slide the column headings to view ALL.
Scroll down to the apps that start with S, and look for the app SECURITY POLICY UPDATES. Tap it to open its settings. Then tap CLEAR CACHE. Next tap CLEAR DATA.
Restart your device.
Go to Settings/Lock Screen and all the previously greyed out lock screen options should no longer be greyed out.
go setting === security ==> install from device storage==> press over the registered email and download
it will be fixed :good:

Disabling the Screen Lock?

Hey everyone.
So installed Microsoft's Next locker to see if it is a worthwhile replacement for the stock EMUI lockscreen (and because they recently added fingerprint reader support), however I have been facing some issues with disabling the stock lock screen, and therefore end up with the "double lock screens". The problem is that, when trying to set the "Password" under Screen Lock & Passwords, the "None" option is greyed out with the following notification: "Disabled by administrator, device encryption or credential storage."
I've had a look at this thread, and the solution that @RobboW posted there doesn't seem to work for me. First of all, the Huawei Unlock doesn't exist in EMUI 4.0 it seems. I did find a Smart Unlock feature (with a Huawei logo, hence the assumption that it is a successor to the Huawei Unlock feature) under Settings - Advanced Settings - Security - Trusted Agents, however disabling that did not work.
Further digging on the internet suggested that I clear the credential storage, however that didn't solve my problem either. Further than that I cannot see any of the two currently active device administrators interfering with the lock screen (I tested it to be safe, and disabling them didn't make a difference).
Has anyone had this issue before, or perhaps know of a workaround?
Cheers! :good:

Hi there, I know it's been a while but lately I faced the same issue and somehow found a solution. Hope it helps you as well.. Try this http://ministryofsolutions.com/2016/10/disable-screen-lock-huawei-devices.html

MediaPad X2 702L Upgraded to Marshmallow - GEM-702L B202

Can't see Smart Lock to enable on body detection and location so I don't have to worry about lock screen at home and while carrying it. Thanks for your help!.
Goto screenlock and passwords.
Set Pin or password.
Click Intelligent Unlock
Select your bluetooth device.
You will have to swipe if your device is in the near, but you will not need to enter the pin code to unlock your device.
If you have set a pin you can also got inside Security and trusted apps and the switch from smart lock to "Smart Lock" (Google)
Then go into Settings "Google" and tap for nearby.
The first method worked with my smartwatch
I tried 2nd method, but it did not find my Bluetooth smartwatch.
Thank you for quick reply. I able to add Bluetooth device as trusted device. I am looking for smart lock for on body detection and location ones.
Like at home if I add as trusted place. Then I don't have to unlock every time. It will lock only once 4 hrs if there is no activity.
This is not Part of Android 6.0 Firmware.
You can use 'tasker' for this. We had a thread about this reqirement. It is complicated but possible.

(Guide) Face (ID) unlock for Mi A1 (any other phone too) Android 7.x+ (without root)

Hi members of the xda developers.
Presenting you a guide where you can unlock your phone with your face just like iPhone X, OP5T etc.
Firstly you will need this app
AUTOINPUT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autoinput
1.) Join the Beta for AutoInput
The new auto-unlocking functionality is currently a beta feature in developer João Dias' AutoInput app, so you'll need to join the beta program in order to try it. In order to join the Beta, you first need to join the Google+ Community for AutoApps. Simply tap on the "Join" button on the Google+ page to become a member of the community. After joining the G+ Community, head to the link below and make sure you're signed in with the same Google account you use on your Android device, then tap the "Become a Tester" button.
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.joaomgcd.autoinput
2.) Download the Newest AutoInput Beta
Next, head over to the Google Play Store and install the latest version of the AutoInput app. You might need to wait up to 30 minutes after joining the beta program before the newest version will be available, so if the steps below don't work, check back on the Play Store for an update. You may notice that this app is actually a Tasker plug-in, but that isn't important here and we do not need Tasker to complete this hack.
3.) Start a Free Trial or Buy the Pro Version
In order to access all of the features in AutoInput, you will need to start a 7-day free trial of the app by tapping on "Start Trial." Alternatively, you can purchase the full version. The free trial is a good idea if you're not sure you will use the app on a long-term basis. If you do enjoy modding your phone regularly, AutoInput Pro can be purchased for only $1.99 and is an excellent value for use with Tasker.
4.) Activate the Accessibility Service in AutoInput
Note: This step is only required for those on Android Nougat, it is not needed in Oreo.
Like many apps that enable impressive hacks, AutoInput requires access to Accessibility Services to do its magic. When you open the app for the first time, you will notice a large block of red text prompting you to enable this needed service. Tapping on this dialog box will take you into Accessibility Services in your Settings menu. Scroll down to "AutoInput" and tap the toggle to enable it. Tap the back button a few times on your device to get back inside the AutoInput app.
5.) Enable 'Auto Dismiss Keyguard' in AutoInput
After enabling AutoInput in Accessibility Services, you will notice that the previous dialog box of red text in the app is gone. Below the new dialog box indicating accessibility is enabled, you will notice an option that says "Auto Dismiss Keyguard". Tap the toggle to enable this feature.
6.) Set a Trusted Face in Smart Lock
Finally, you're ready to set up your face unlock and give it a try. Head to Settings –> Security (or "Security and Location" on newer phones), then tap on "Smart Lock". From here you will need to enter your current PIN or pattern, if you have one.
After this is completed you, will see several options to use with the Smart Lock service. Tap on "Trusted Face" and follow the prompts to scan your face. You can improve the recognition by repeating the process in a different lighting condition, or from a different angle.
7.) Unlock Your Phone with Your Face
After you're satisfied with the scan, head back to your lock screen and test out your automatic face unlock. Like the OnePlus 5T, you still have to wake your phone to unlock it, but now, as soon as your device "sees" your face, you'll be taken directly to your home screen. In other words, just click your power button, look at your phone, then it will automatically unlock! We should note here that the dismiss keyguard feature works with any of the Smart Lock options, not just Trusted Face. This means your phone will automatically unlock when using a trusted location or trusted device as well.
While it may seem like quite a few steps, the actual process only takes a few minutes, as seen in our tutorial video above. One important note here is that this method is likely a bit less secure than the actual implementation found on the 5T. Overall, we've found that this method makes it much easier to use face unlock on Android phones that don't have the feature built in. Let me know in the comments if you have any questions and tell me how the new feature is working for you!

Appreciate this guide but... In our phone we have face unlock
Security> smart lock> trusted face
Setup ur face n try unlocking its not as accurate as flagship but yeah does the work ?
With this app, this will do auto unlock, no need to swipe from lockscreen. There are people on Nougat ROMs who need this app to enable it in accessability settings.

Face unlock on the Asus Zenfone Max

Hello people,
Here I bring to you face unlock for our beautiful Asus Zenfone MAX. Heres how to do it:
Download:
You will need any ROM that has the Google "Smart Lock" feature. I can confirm this is available with most Custom Roms > AOSP Extended 4.6, XOSP, AIM Rom, Resurrection Remix etc. But my personal favorite is Dot OS. Download link below:
DOT OS Downoad link:
DOT OS
Activate Google Smart Lock
Go to Security>Smart Lock
Add Trusted Face
Select "Trusted Face" and add your face
Voila, You are Done
Well, not yet.
If you test it now, the phone will unlock but you will still need to "Swipe Up" to go to the home screen. Bad, huh?
Well, that is sorted too!
Download "AutoInput" from Play Store
Theres a catch here. You need to download the paid version of the App. Thats a cost. Or if you know any way of getting it fr free, let me know
Open Autoinput App
Grant "Accessibility" Access
Click on Auto Dismiss Keyguard
Click on "Enable"
NOW YOU are DONE
Lock your phone.
Click on the power button to light up screen.
Hold it to your face and Voila, there goes the face unlock!
Enjoyy !
I guess xposed has an active module(instant face unlock) for the purpose of auto input... But it seems a bit laggy compared to auto input. Also i guess the trusted face option in smart lock depends on which open gapps you are flashing.... I got it by flashing stock version(pico didn't have the trusted face option).nano too has the feature
