Disabling the Screen Lock? - Ascend Mate 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone.
So installed Microsoft's Next locker to see if it is a worthwhile replacement for the stock EMUI lockscreen (and because they recently added fingerprint reader support), however I have been facing some issues with disabling the stock lock screen, and therefore end up with the "double lock screens". The problem is that, when trying to set the "Password" under Screen Lock & Passwords, the "None" option is greyed out with the following notification: "Disabled by administrator, device encryption or credential storage."
I've had a look at this thread, and the solution that @RobboW posted there doesn't seem to work for me. First of all, the Huawei Unlock doesn't exist in EMUI 4.0 it seems. I did find a Smart Unlock feature (with a Huawei logo, hence the assumption that it is a successor to the Huawei Unlock feature) under Settings - Advanced Settings - Security - Trusted Agents, however disabling that did not work.
Further digging on the internet suggested that I clear the credential storage, however that didn't solve my problem either. Further than that I cannot see any of the two currently active device administrators interfering with the lock screen (I tested it to be safe, and disabling them didn't make a difference).
Has anyone had this issue before, or perhaps know of a workaround?
Cheers! :good:

I assumed that it was just to edit or update the pattern lock. Thats why i did not tinker with it.
Hi guys, I've run into the same problem but still can't get to remove the lock..
mine is as follow:
settings > security > screen lock
then it asks to "confirm saved pattern"
then i have: none (grayed out), slide(grayed out), face unlock(grayed out), pattern, PIN, password
If i choose pattern again, it will ask me to draw a new pattern and it comes back to the same.
the grayed out options are written "disabled by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage".
I'm running ARHD ICS.. i want to remove the screen lock pattern to default slide unlock only... please help

You would likely have trusted credentials set up because of a VPN or Microsoft Exchange account. In which case, you'll have to clear the trusted credentials first before none becomes available as an option. Do note that your VPN or Exchange account would be erased when you clear trusted credentials.
I had this problem a few days ago, couldn't use the simple unlock screen, the option was greyed out. Happened after allowing the Seekdroid app to function as an administrator I think, or could have been after adding my college (wpa2 enterprise) wifi network either.
I stumbled upon a proper fix though today, instead of just deleting the credential storage.
Go to:
-settings
-profiles
-select a profile and click the settings icon beside it
- at the bottom of the list there is an option "lock screen mode"
-change it to "use insecure lock screen"
*there is also the option to disable the lock screen entirely
This worked for me anyway, the simple swipe unlock is now default.
I had the same problem, but I found a solution.
The one with the profile option does not work for me, because I do not have this option.
I just chose Pattern , turned off the screen, turned it back on and clicked on Forgot in the right down corner. After I gave in my Google passswort it changes automatically back to slide.
In the settings the option none it still grayed out but its selected anywhere and it works.
I just installed "Lookout". Went to settings/security and selected "lookout" as my device admin. No i have all the options for pattern lock back.
silly little thing ICS
just managed to resolve this on my S3 after an hour-two of getting nowhere.
this was the problem:
- encrypted the phone
- after encrypting the device I did not like the lack of convenience the enforced PW unlock offered (sorry, I know it is the most secure way, but no friggin way I am going to type in a PW into my phone 50x a day...already doing this 500x at work, so.....no!)
- decrypted the phone and could not get any other unlock method to activate... not even after clearing the admin controls and credentials
and these are the steps I took to resolve it:
- found an old SD card and installed it
- encrypted the SD card
- decrypted the SD card
- made sure phone is decrypted again
- voila! unlock options became available again
Thank You

Where can I find the Lookout app? I cannot see it in Google Play (I don't think it is the antivirus here).
Can you post a link? Thanks.

Doesn't work for me (Htc One X, CyanogenMod 10)
Went to profiles -> Clicked "Settings" icon next to Default (selected) profile -> tapped "Lock screen mode" -> Chose "Insecure".
Still no option to remove the lock screen (ie None, Slide and Face Unlock still grayed out)
I use VPN and have credentials stored, I would not wish to lose this, but would still like to have a simple lock screen instead of lock pattern.
Can I use "Slide" lock AND still have the VPN credentials stored? Is there some way to force this?
Thanks

Can only lock screen using 'password' all other options are not available

This is for the US Cellular Galaxy S3.
Recently I had encrypted my phone and the Galaxy forced me to use a password for my lock screen, which is fine; I wouldn't expect it to allow any less secure method, but I have since unencrypted the device and still find myself unable to change my lock screen preferences. When I go into Settings>Security>Screen Lock I am prompted to confirm my password and then I am presented with the alternative screen lock options. The problem is that everything is greyed out except for the Password option. Every other screen lock method is greyed and says 'Disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage' and I can't select anything.
I just want to change back to a PIN but it won't let me
I have tried going into 'Device Administrators' to clear something out or just see what I could do in there and there are no device administrators available. Also, I have tried the 'Clear credentials' option, to no avail.
I'm running stock 4.0.4 ROM, rooted.

I had that issue before, but clearing the credentials fixed it for me. It happened after i installed a VPN. You may want to just wipe your phone and go fresh.
There's an option to encrypt the contents of your phone (under Security, I think). If that's enabled for some reason, it might force you to use the most secure option.

The phone had already been decrypted by the time I was trying to change the screen lock.
Interestingly the options came available after I decrypted the SD card that I had in the phone. The only reason I didn't do this before was because I had initially taken the SD card out of the phone thinking that would alleviate me of any restrictions that it might be causing regarding the lock screen, or anything else for that matter.

I had this issue as well after installing a VPN on a different device and clearing the credentials fixed it for me as well.

ANSWER
I had this problem on my S3 (firmware ver 4.4.2) recently when I set up a VPN connection and I was forced to change from a pattern screen lock to a 4-digit pin lock. After testing and removing the VPN connection I could not change my screen lock back to pattern because nearly all screen lock options were greyed out. After hours of calls to Verizon and Samsung I found a solution that worked for me.
Go to Settings\Application Manager.
Slide the column headings to view ALL.
Scroll down to the apps that start with S, and look for the app SECURITY POLICY UPDATES. Tap it to open its settings. Then tap CLEAR CACHE. Next tap CLEAR DATA.
Restart your device.
Go to Settings/Lock Screen and all the previously greyed out lock screen options should no longer be greyed out.
go setting === security ==> install from device storage==> press over the registered email and download
it will be fixed :good:

[Q] How to edit "Smart Lock Google" settings ??

Is there a way to edit the setting of the secure unlock within the phone?
I'm on AL00 Chinese version, and had enabled the Google Smart Lock feature to choose location that enables the safe unlock screen without pin. The other day it randomly seeks my approval to enable my location to set the feature where it happened to be my home at that time, and I happily accepted it. All it's good. But having hard time to find within the setting to enable other locations like at work manually.
So just wondering if anyone has found the hidden setting within the phone for this feature.
Thanks in advance.
I'm also curious about this. I sent Huawei an email but haven't heard anything from them yet.

My pattern lock is fubar

Hi XDA, I have a Galaxy s8+.
My pattern lock is acting goofy, won't recognise the correct pattern. Fingerprint works fine so I can get into my phone. But entering security settings to disable pattern requires pattern.
Kind of scared to turn off my device.
I have all lost device software enabled and signed into Google. What can I do?
Edit: OK while I have both Samsung and Google Find My Device enabled, in my android settings apparently I didn't give permission to remote unlock. Turn it on? Requires pattern.
Thank you kindly ilu

Can anyone tell me how to decrypt a pixel 3 with ADB?

Pretty much exactly what it says in the title. I'm blind and use a screen reader, it just so happens that my screen reader of choice at the time has a bug that prevents it from bypassing encryption after reboot. As such I'm unable to do anything because I don't have speech, and unable to enable talkback or another working screen reader because my accessibility shortcut is configured to toggle the previously mentioned broken one. Would rather like to fix this without erasing the phone entirely if at all possible.
Thanks.
