Freedom phone - General Questions and Answers

Anybody heard of this new phone to be released in August? Just asking because I would like more details on it. Such as hardware details, OS details etc. And the possibility that the bootloader is unlocked and maybe someone is already working on root method?

Thank you for the information but I think we may be talking about 2 different organizations. The link you provided is .net and the one I posted is .com. Not only that but the freedom phone from your post has graphene OS while the one from my link uses freedom OS.

I saw that on the NTD channel on YouTube (it's a conservative news channel that YT would never recommend)
https://www.youtube.com/c/ntdtv/videos
They were saying that the Freedom Phone is a plan by a guy who become a millionaire by his age of 18, because he invested in Bitcoin. So, a prejudice warning right there.
Next, they said that his main concern was that it is hard to source the hardware (really?), because the big names in cell phone business do dominate the industry, while none of them interested in privacy. (True).
So, he had figured out how to get the hardware and his new freedom phone is flying off the shelves, because it is a revolutionary new concept where the phone has his own store and doesn't allow the network location scanning and so on, so basically it is a de-googled phone.

Conservatives are touting this phone to be patriotic, etc... but there are articles claiming its a cheap chinese knockoff with huge security issues, likely built in to the phone at the request of the NSA for snooping purposes.

Blockbuster App Blocks Rooted Android Phones

Found this over at DroidLife so I thought I would share with everyone!

Just after Google I/O finished and Android 3.1 started popping up on XOOMs across the nation, we quickly realized that its newly announced movie service was not so root-friendly. That’s right, Google or its contract with the movie industry, must have figured that since your device may be rooted, you planned on doing nothing but stealing from them and blocked your access. So that XOOM you bought, which came with the ability to be unlocked, can no longer access all of its services unless you lock it up tight again.
It’s only getting better though. The new Blockbuster app for the DROID Charge that became available this week, actually calls you out for being rooted and even proceeds to tell you that you will struggle to enjoy its content. The app comes equipped with Widevine’s DRM software that has the ability to detect whether or not your device has been left untouched in the system department. Oh and speaking of Widevine, did you know that Google owns them? Who would have thought?
Welcome to the future of rooted users, my friends.
Cheers Cory!

Any thoughts? hope no other Apps will follow behind
It seems like it's just the movie companies doing this, and not actual google and or blockbuster. There will be ways around it no problem though.
Seem interesting
same here, i hate when they block
is this on the LG Optimus 2x (UK), the LG G2X or both?
blockbuster is going out of business anyways... so it really is a pointless app
It's usually the movie/music companies doing this, saying "you can't have our content unless you do exactly what we say."
i hope that no other applications have the same block for rooted phones. .
Yeah it was more than likely a movie company thing. Just cause we enjoy customizing our phones with the latest and greatest things doesn't mean we're stealing movies. Besides, one doesn't even need to be rooted to download free movies. Their loss since they're losing out on lots of business. I know I'm not going to unroot just to have Blockbuster.
I didn't realize Blockbuster was still around.
With Netflix, and other apps that fish for shows, I can't imagine why anyone would stick with blockbuster.

PSA: Scammer Offering to Buy Honor View 20 for Ridiculous Prices

Just a quick warning, recently a number of new accounts have been targeting Honor 20, Honor 20 Pro, and Honor View 20 owners by sending them unsolicited DMs offering to purchase their phone or the build.prop* file for more than double the original value of the device. THIS IS A SCAM. The user is likely intending to use the phone to claim certain in-game promotional items without actually paying. If you engage with them, one of two things may happen:
- They will insist that you send your phone to them first before they pay, but once they receive your phone they never pay up.
- They will pay you, but then use PayPal to force a chargeback and reclaim their payment even if you legitimately send them the phone.
Also, offering to trade phones is against the XDA Forum Rules, clause 7.
Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is a scam.
* PS. With regards to why people are so interested in the build.prop file, at some point there may have been a rumour that the file contained unique device serial numbers that could be used to spoof someone's device and claim promotional items without their consent. However, this appeared to be a false claim because the build.prop only contains system configurations and hardware model numbers, neither of which can be used for AppGallery redemptions. Sadly, it doesn't seem to have stopped these people from continually begging for the file. You also need root access to read/overwrite this file so if anyone tells you that they need your file to "repair" theirs, it's likely a lie.
Yes they are all fake. I have been ignoring such messages on xda, Facebook and Instagram for codes which they asly in terms of some help or some help with issue and thinks users are fool to be trapped in their scams but in fact people are smarter than they think
Aaaaah Fortnite.... ?
That what you get when you register for all those phone ''unlocking'' sites. Scammers get your full info and then spam the f.. out of you.
Huawei/Honor devices cannot be unlocked, because officially it is not possible, period!

Country of origin - OnePlus Terms on first boot

HI all,
I am planning on buying a new phone soon - either OnePlus 8 Pro/8TPro or Samsung S20/Note 20 (when the latter are released)
Could any OP8 holders please confirm if this was indeed accurate?
If it's accurate, is there a way to avoid this?
Or we stuck on the stock firmware with the 'potential' data being sent off to home?

Hi,
This is a sensitive topic since it can become a little to political, but to keep it simple, OnePlus has never been caught doing something sketchy like that, not like Xiaomi or Huawei and other Chinese brands. But there's always this little doubt because Chinese GOV (not people, please make the difference) isn't transparent at all with its policy and relationship with phone manufacturers. So if this is really an issue because you work in a sensitive place in your country (research, administration, ...) then go for Samsung, because "we never know what could happen". But if you don't have anything sensitive to hide, trust me, Chinese secret services won't give a damn about your data lol.
We're not stuck at all on stock firmware, there are a lot of ROMs that are really good, and can be used instead of stock. I don't know if flashing a ROM deletes the issue tho, because what's a problem with spying is that you don't know where the leak come from, and if OnePlus where indeed spying us, they would've a solution that works even with ROMs since OnePlus let us easily and freely flash anything on our phones.
I'll end by saying that it's really a shame, because OnePlus phones are really good, and those trust issues can sometimes completely ruin the experience...
Also, your question is 100% legit, 20 years ago I'd say your paranoid, but now, with all the political background, you do better asking.
We're living difficult time for privacy since internet is so anchored in our lives...
If anyone want to post in this thread, please stick to the rules by not going full political. Just answer the question asked and put the least amount of political views in the answer. I tried to be as neutral as possible, do so please

Best Smartphones - that are rootable & have nice Custom Roms?

Hi Guys,
I wonder wich "best" Smartphones from 2020/2021 are rootable?
Especially looking for one with a Superb Camera.

(obviously only Android - Iphone Users don't have much advanced control over their phonse..)
Because for Example Galaxy S21 isn't rootable (yet?) - I mostly used rooted (&optimized) Samsung Smartphones (now still having the S10)
Wich one you would recommend these Days?
Because I never want to use a Smartphone, wich lags root possibillities (without it is too insecure, too many ads, too many ****/spy apps etc etc)
Probably you are also looking for one, so we would be happy to share our Knowledge.
My Candicate for now:
Galaxy S21 Ultra
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/02-06-21-g998b-i-dr-ketan-rom-i-oneui-3-1.4247357/
See you:
It seems, there aren't many users watching this.
I think many would be interested, but I also know, that many pro users are only interested in their smartphones forums, not this one.
However when you have an better Idea, please let me know.
not sure that package falls entirely in one phone. OnePlus lots of roms but cameras... Pixels maybe, but it's not top tier SoCs. I think Samsung is doing everything it can to block unlock but it still be done on non updated phones. GSIs might be the future of decent roms for many.
if Samsung release the rumoured S21FE it might be a snapdragon that's unlockable on international versions.
For me, I vote Pixel #1 and OnePlus #2. I won't buy anything else! I've owned everything at one time or another but these devices use custom AOSP roms as if they were born with them. Current using Pixel 4XL stock rom August 2021 build along with few magisk mods and Sultan kernel. I couldn't ask for a better experience really!!

I would like to change the ROM of this tablet, but it... doesn't help me...

Hello, good morning, good afternoon, good night everyone. I'm new to this site and honestly I'm a little sad and a little desperate. Two days ago, this tablet that I bought arrived: https://www.ebay.com/itm/164952253163?var=464487247387
He arrived with the box torn (maybe it's because of customs here in Brazil that decided to open the box to tax me. I paid around $62 fee, to receive the item.) I came across a tablet with a somewhat performance different than expected. Unfortunately, some settings shown in the ad didn't turn out to be true and this impacted the performance I expected from my device. I knew it wasn't a tablet from Samsung or Asus or another famous company, but I was disappointed because of the seller's lack of honesty with the actual settings of the tablet. Without going too far, I wanted to change the ROM of this device, it comes with these settings here: http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=3b14-d459-34a4-d06c0033c587
But, as it's not as specific as a Galaxy Tab A7 or other, I couldn't find a ROM to install on it. Could you help me in this regard? It looks like some CUSTOM ROMS are universal, working on any device that has the mt6592 but I'm afraid to mess up. I would just like to use a system a little more fluid for my device

You obviously got cheated, hence why not return tablet to ebay and request refund of purchase price?

I already thought about it. I will open a dispute about the item, but if I end up keeping it (since on some platforms, even if I get a refund, I still get the item) I would like to know if I can make this kind of ROM modification, for, for me, I believe, it will be more advantageous than doing the return process. What do you think?
