[Q] Looking for an app/widget that I can program custom "keyboard shortcuts" - General Questions and Answers

I would like to be able to save a custom keyboard command, for example, CTRL + /, so that, for example, if I'm using Figma on my touch device (within the browser), I can hit this button and that keyboard shortcut will be "executed". In this instance, for Figma, it would toggle all of the UI and leave just the canvas.
Does such an app/widget exist?

The Figma app should support it, right?
Im not sure about anything else that can trigger UI elements.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the Figma app (it's in closed beta), I'm just trying to use it in the browser

It has that.
If you have a physical keyboard it mught work.

Thanks Kenora, I'm trying to avoid having to connect physical keyboard .
I'm looking to use Figma in the browser on my Galaxy Tab. I can trigger the Toggle UI shortcut by pressing and holding on the background, but am hoping for a quicker way to trigger that function

How to get CTRL+C and CTRL+V keyborad function in HD2

Hi All,
In my old XDA the keyboard had a CTRL key which was so easy to cut and paste but the HD2 keyboard is very cumbersome when copying and pasting.
Anyone has suggestion for an alternative keyboard app?
Cheers.
Wolfy
Just press and hold your finger on the text and you will get a pulldownmenu with the commands "copy" and "paste". This is the only way, i know.
Thanx mate..... but I know this function but sometimes it's so hard to highlight the text and then try and copy/cut as soon as I put my finger again on the same place the highlighted text get cleared as the system kind of recognises as I dont want the selection ......sometimes it does work I have to admit but most of the time it doesnt and i just like using teh CTRL function as its kind of neat (thats my understanding) ..... anyone has any alternatives????

You can use FingerKeyboard for this. You can select text by pressing the 'shift' key and then select the text with the arrow buttons. When you have the right selection, you can copy this by pressing 'shift' and then X. To paste press 'shift' and then V. Even shift-Z and shift-X works, exactly the way it does on a normal keyboard. I use it very much.

I use tweak no. 40 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638
which facilitates copy and paste text.

ok, and how can i then replace the selected text with a capital "V" (when shift-v is the shortcut for paste, which is ctrl-v on a pc) ?

I'm sorry, I was wrong. You have to press shift and hold (!) the Z, X, C or V button. When you press shift you also see the caption of buttons change. Above the Z you can see 'undo', above the X 'cut' and so on...
Swype has a dedicated copy and one for paste in the symbols/edit section

[IDEA] Keyboard switcher

It would be great to have a possibility to choose one keyboard for portrait mode (for example: swype) and the other for landscape one (for example: htc_ime).
Swype is great in portrait mode, but it sucks in landscape one (too large distances between the letters, swyping is slower than two hands typing, and a 'normal' typing using swype keyboard's layout is not so comfortable).
What do you think? Is it possible? The time to switch between keyboards wouldn't be too large? Memory utilization would be small enough?
Not sure if it is possible but I personally would also like the option to set the default keyboard per applications.
Why stop there? Would be great if there was a way to swipe through different keyboards in any app. Then you could just pick the best one for your current application. Of course the above feature would be great to have included with this.
Maybe some dev will pick up on this. Agree that it would be nice to have.

+1. i would love to use the Graffiti keyboard for some of my medical applications as the swype keyboard is useless when it comes to hunt & peck typing of words that aren't in its dictionary.

+1!! great idea dude!!
how bout swype on the stock 2.2 keyboard mixed with htc_ime compact qwerty ???? FLAWLESS . "BEST" Keyboard EVER !
but swype + stock 2.2 keyboard,, would be a great thing !
Google get ON THAT ! pls
agreed a mod would finaly help bring the greatness of swype in portrait and HTC_IME in landscape would be amazing...
only issues i see coming from this is how will the OS juggle the two keyboards ?
this makes me jealous of people that have a keyboard android phone.. they can use swype and the default keyboard and not worry about the landscape swype.
It's been asked/suggested many times but it's simply not possible.
In Android, you cannot change input method (keyboard) without user interaction for security reasons. Think about it this way; would you want a malicious app that mimics the exact look/functionality of your keyboard, except that it logs/steals your every keystroke and is automatically enabled as the input method without you knowing it?
The security is in place to prevent that exact type of situation.
Minor correction/clarification. A third party app cannot switch input method automatically. Which means, creating an app to let you customize what keyboard to use in what orientation/app/etc simply cannot happen. A keyboard can, however, programmatically switch itself to another keyboard on a given event. The only way this could ever happen would be for both keyboards you wanted to use to have this functionality built into it (ie, htc_ime keyboard knows to switch to swype when going from landscape to portrait and swype switches back to htc_ime in the opposite). Given that these are both closed source keyboards (granted, htc_ime mod rocks) this will likely never happen unless the developers themselves were to do it (especially since we can't post swype apk's anywhere).
From: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/view/inputmethod/InputMethodManager.html
A client application can ask that the system let the user pick a new IME, but can not programmatically switch to one itself. This avoids malicious applications from switching the user to their own IME, which remains running when the user navigates away to another application. An IME, on the other hand, is allowed to programmatically switch the system to another IME, since it already has full control of user input.

Unless you are running a custom Rom that specifically removes or bypasses that type of security (which would be foolish IMO) then the exact same restrictions from my previous post apply. It would take some serious core changes for this to ever be possible.
I know it isn't exactly what people are requesting, but what about a shortcut it widget that brings up the manual keyboard selection dialog? You could then map that to the long press search action our something similar. Maybe have it stay resident in the notification area so you can change keyboards on the fly without having to be in a text dialog. My main use to switch is when I am in a terminal window, which requires me to close out and bring up the search dialog, long press, change input methods, go back to the terminal... Pain in the ass, since Swype can't delete in a Connectbot shell one typo means going through that process to switch to Better Keyboard so I can complete my task.

This is possible. A third party app can trigger the choose IME dialog to pop up. I'll try to throw something together this afternoon. You could then use an app like bartender, quickdesk, etc to setup easy access to it.

Am I missing Something here? Copy & Paste support

I seem to have no copy and paste. Running TnT Lite V 2.2. everything is great but the lack of C&P is very irritating. have tried it in dolphin and stock browser.

Long press for select text/copy/paste options
With the default keyboard you can use the long press and get select, copy, paste text options. You should try Ultra Keyboard from the Marketplace, there's a trial version. In the settings, remove full screen in landscape checkmark and play with the height of the keys to your liking. There's a top section above the keyboard, with some select text and copy paste icons like in word. There's also cursor keys on both portrait and landscape mode keyboards, nice for fine editing/correcting. Typing is much nicer with this, at least for me. Oh, and if you like Swype, they have a trace option as well.

I tried ultra and can see it in keyboard option but can't activate it. When I then longpressa text box it doesn't have ultra listed, confirming that it did not activate. What's the trick,do you have to adb push like instaalling swipe?

You have to move keyboards to the system apps folder to use them.
After the Ultra -trial version install, I could not find the keyboard to move to system apps folder. Where can I find the keyboard either apk or anything?

I'm on TNT Lite 2.2 and in the settings I'm able to select/deselect the keyboard. Which version are you running?
I installed the trial version of Ultra keyboard and you need to go to language and keyboards in settings to tell your tablet to use it. Then when you go to a text box and long press you should be able to select it. Now, if I could just find the magic button to make the keyboard full width I would be happy...

Ctrl key ?

In my previous HTC, Touch Pro2, there is a Ctrl key, but on HTC 7 PRO I cannot see it. If there is a way to map such Ctrl key? I need to use it
1.) why do you need the key?
2.) there is actually no ctrl-key and you won't be able to map it do any other.
keymap could be modified on rhodium
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538228
Suppose something similar could be digged. have no wp7 at the moment though.
hope to read of android working and smoothly on 7pro :=) unless a cool qwerty is released for android, maybe 4.3"

Hi all,
I had the same thought.
The benefit of the Control key (for my usage):
- press CONTROL + BACKSAPCE to delete a whole word at a time (rather than single letters
- using the arrow buttons + CONTORL makes copying text much easier, that way you don't have to get onto the touch screen (useful on long emails etc)
- much easier to copy & paste just using the keyboard, like on your normal keyboard
It would be great to have the Control button or have the same function somehow else.

I use to do the same thing. Feel lost without it. I know it can still be done by dragging your finger. Though to me... its not with the same ease. I dont know how they could possibly think an emoticon button is more crucial :S Its a business phone ffs!

^c and ^v work with hackers keyboard and Jota text editor. I can't say about other apps or keyboards as I have not tried.
Is ^+tab to switch window focus? If so it does not appear to work for me.
You are probably talking about using the dock. I don't have a dock.
I use hackers because it has all 4 arrow keys and supports ^ keys and alt keys, navigation is quick and painless.
