Running the latest release of Android. I've just got a car which has Android Auto on. This is new to me but maybe the collective wisdom here can help.
I've got loads of apps on my phone, but only a few seem to be available on the screen in my car when I connect my phone up. Is this normal? If so, how do I get the rest of my apps to work? DO they have to be designed to run in Android Auto to start with?
Any assistance appreciated.

Hi guys
This device has just been launched in Ireland.. my current oneplus device is getting on a bit so time to upgrade...
Anyway, can anyone tell me if the mix 2s works with android auto head units in their cars?? this is kinda important as I use it daily for work as I travel a lot...
From searching on the web,it seems to be hit and miss with users getting two large black bars on their cars screen,so was hoping maybe the good folk here can chime in... maybe a recent update sorted the problem or something??
btw it's a kenwood head unit i would be plugging into
Thanks

Thanks man, I haven't actually got the mix 2s yet....
Does your mix 2 work in your car head unit without any issues????
or have you got the black bar issue like in this thread?? https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/help/android-auto-car-screen-t3833709
No any problem
Work well
After installation and before the launch of Android Auto
It is necessary to
Accept all permissions
Create a WiFi access point (menu - paramètres- Point accès wifi mobile )
Recognize on the car Bluetooth connection and WiFi connection by Access point wifi mobile
and only after connecting the phone USB cable to the car and running Android Auto
Thanks man, really appreciate your input...will take the plunge and buy the phone anyway
Android Auto works great with my global model. I use it in my vehicle every day. No problems with it.

Good to know,I really rely on it as I drive all over the shop daily for work...I have it ordered anyway so will be here Tuesday!! will have to figure out how to root these devices now or maybe will stick with MIUI,haven't done it since I had my nexus 4 and I've used oneplus devices for the last few years....
Android Auto works for me. Using Mi Mix 2s on latest mi.eu 10.2 (Android P). I have a KIA Rio 2018 which is compatible with both Android Auto and the Apple equivalent. Only hickup I've encountered is that Auto refuses to start Spotify/Audible/audio players when connected to car. Easily avoided by starting said app before connecting to the car. Minor bug but still annoying. This might be a isolated problem though since Auto isn't avaliable in my country yet. Other than that I haven't encountered any more bugs.

I can not use waze, always frozen when try to look for an address, anyone knows why?
I have same issue with Spotify and pocketcasts. So don't believe it's a isolated issue.

You have to give android auto and the music or whatever app you are trying to use the right to start other apps in the background. miui is limiting this by default, therefore you have to allow it first. after that this will work without a problem. it is in the miui seetings of the corresponding app, the top option "allow app to start in the background" or "allow other apps to start in the background". Something like that it was called
Hi guys,
my android auto (in a certified compatible car AA) it's fully broken from Oneplus Android 10 versions.
Tried the beta3, beta4, and "official" android 10, always same problems.
Connections in not stable, sometimes audio glitch and interface (of my car) forced to reboot.
Almost always, the buttons from above interface disappear (in every app, like spotify, maps, waze, etc...) becoming fully unusable.
The vocal commands works only with navigator and music, no more google assistance questions (like what's the weather tomorrow) --> This seems confirmed that is broken in google side.
Now, I'm trying to understand if it's fully broken android 10 + android auto (the system AA level, not anymore an app to be lauched) OR it's only with these oxygen's roms, still broken in some way.
Please, someone have real feedbacks to give me ? I'm very disappointed, thinking to go back to Android 9 just for this, but i will loose every update (included the security monthly fix) because OPO is supporting already just Android 10.
What can I do ?
Tried all the throubleshoot I've found around of course, like wipe cache, delete app, use "new" AA interface, cables, etc...
Car: Mazda CX3 (it seems that Mazda + OPO7Pro is the devil match)

What I've learned from this phone and Android auto is that if you have USB debugging enabled, Android Auto will give you the worst experience.... EVER!
If you have it off, o don't know what to tell you honestly. If its on, TURN IT OFF! I have a 2017 Chevy RS Cruze and have no issues except when I have debugging enabled

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately it was one of the things I've tried... Disabled the usb debug and also fully disable the dev. Mode...
BUT, are you on android 10 ? Really it's stable to you ?
Guys, some more feedbacks ?
My opo7pro with latest stable 10.0.2 it's still unstable with android auto (mazda).
Main selector icon disappear (becoming unusable), random crash/reboot, audio glitch...
Ufff
I've had my op7p for about a week. I have a Kenwood dmx 905 with wireless Android auto. Phone came with Android 9. Had no problems connecting without using the USB cord. Did the local update to Android 10. Now it won't connect unless I use the USB cord. Then I can disconnect the cord and go wireless. I have to do this every time now. Want to know to go back to Android 9.

Got the same with OOS in my Mazda. Switched to custom ROM, no more issues.
I can confirm the debugging issue making AA go weird. If I have it enabled it has a spastic, if I disable it, AA works flawlessly.

man... I'm without hope
Really with custom's no problem at all ? I investigated more... I really think it's a problem also in Mazda side + OPO7Pro Android 10.
I didn't want this time go custom, I'm fully stock without root (for security reason etc...)
Ufff... very disappointed, 10.0.3 still has the same problem :crying:
Having huge problems with my 2016 Skoda Octavia Amundsen. I will try debugging mode off and report. Thx everybody.

PS. As AA is not supported in Finland yet, how can I edit the power saving option of this App?
Hi all, hoping for help. I'm thinking of getting a new phone soon but I am wondering what phones have an auto detect driving function that puts the phone in hands free mode, or starts a driving assist or android auto.
I currently have a moto z-play (first gen). Bought it because of super-amoled screen and big battery (2 days battery life). Been using it for 3 years, still get almost a day and a half battery. But the function I find I cannot live without is moto's drive assist that detects when I'm driving and goes handsfree - I don't even take my phone out of my pocket and it will speak texts to me and allow me to voice reply. Not even all new moto phones come with this feature anymore. And the ones that do don't have the best battery anymore (like z3 play).
So trying to figure out what phones support such a feature, or ways that phones can have that set up. My car does not have bluetooth. I read google is going to setup google assistant to do such a thing - detect driving based on sensors and sound - but it looks like only on pixel3 and newer phones. Can't afford a pixel3 or newer.
I know this seems kinda like a "help me decide on a new phone" question - but I am actually hoping to prompt a discussion on phones that auto detect driving, without bluetooth, or maybe any hacks that you know of to enable it.
Or if anyone knows if a future android updates will give this assistant auto detect driving function to non-pixel phones.
I'd even consider buying a cheap-ish china phone (umidigi, realme, etc) and root it, if I could get a similar function.
Thanks.
You can create this yourself on any (most) device using tasker. Or use a NFC tag.
Does anyone have Android Auto running reliably on Android 10? Prior to upgrading, Android Auto would run just about perfect with my Jeep Cherokee. Occasionally I would have a glitch but 9 out of 10 times it just worked when running on Android 9. I've tried both 10.3.4 and now 10.3.5 and unfortunately it's the opposite now, 9 out of 10 times Android Auto fails to connect. I tried uninstalling AA, clearing cache but still no go. Been searching but can't seem to find a fix, but honestly don't actually see many folks talking about it either, thus wondering if it's something unique on my phone. Currently have the Oneplus 6, rooted with Magisk with only couple of modules (Google Dialer, MultiFunctionsPlus4 & Systemless Hosts). Any advice / tips would be welcome. Spend a lot of time in the car, thus would love to get this working reliably once again.
Anyone manage to get Android Auto working? I get a Communication error 22 - Android Auto was not preinstalled on this device when I try to connect. Anyone figured out a way to sideload it?
Hi,
I have installed Android Auto on the phone from the play store, but can't manage to connect it to the car.
The phone is not detected. I can see inside app section "Connection help": 'Android auto isn't part of your phone operating system...'
Did someone succeed to run it and connect to the car unit ?

Same problem here with the Xiaomi 12S Ultra . it seems that Android Auto must be installed as a System app instead of a User App.
here is a way to do this but i did not test it. I did not find a way too root my phone yet.
[GSI] Fix 'Communication error 22' on Android Auto
If you've installed a custom ROM that doesn't come with Android Auto pre-installed, you'll get the following error when connecting your phone to your car (the Android Auto app opens correctly, the error is only shown when you connect to the car)...
forum.xda-developers.com
That's the issue, if it's not natively instaled then AA will not work.
There might be some advanced geeky workaround but for me that's a no Go.
It's a fact: these Non Global devices always have issues with deep Android applications such as AA, Google Pay, HDRstreaming and such.
I donn't think that any of the advantages of these devices outweigh the basic Google features that we see now, and possibly in the future.
