Moto G Stylus 5G offers pen support and fast connectivity on a budget
Motorola has introduced its Moto G Stylus 5G. It costs $100 more than the 4G model but has better specs and, of course, 5G connectivity.
www.xda-developers.com
Just picked one up tonight. Fingers crossed on devs coming over. Cheers
Just got one over a week ago, so far I have root w/ lsposed, This "Moto G Stylus 5G" section is technically the thread for this device, but I see most of the 5G users using the "Moto G Stylus 2021" section or "Moto G Stylus 2020 (Moto G Pro)" section, so make sure to look at those sections for community tools and roms that may support this device.
Bought a 5G Stylus a couple weeks ago it's nice finally having a moto phone that doesn't destroy fine details due to heavy noise filtering on the main rear camera, the ultra wide cam isn't so great quality wise but it can take some interesting shots at least.
I'd still like to see what a Gcam port would be like, it did wonders for my previous G7 Power's camera abilities.
You can get the Cam2 API enabler magisk module and get Open Camera, it works better than any gcam version I could find, pretty good zoom control.
EDIT: Make sure to enable Cam2 API in Open Camera's settings
Definitely a device worth working on. I will for sure help out where I can.
Please help. I am currently attempting to root my device. And flash stock rom I am using an adb software bugjaeger. I'm newewwww don't know what to doooooo

If the "moto stylus G...XT2131-1" is this forum's Moto G Stylus 5G (2021), then the phone doesn't yet support 5G either; ATT calls their 5GExtended 5G, it is not. they appear to be moving toward true 5g this year sometime, but their "5G" is 4G+tweaking. T-Mobile network does support true 5G
from motorola page, Moto G Stylus 5G (2021):
Device not compatible with all networks; compatible with T-Mobile® 4G and 5G, Verizon® 4G and 5G, and AT&T® 4G networks.
I cannot find a TWRP that specifies it can work with this device, the Moto G Stylus 5G (2021).
is there a safe version, or are the 5G owners waiting? I hadn't seen any TWRP that listed any Moto stylus models of past few years either.
Related: I'm getting ready to move my apps/settings/data from my current G7 Power, to this new Stylus 5G. While I am able to backup all except system via ADB to my computer, I had read the bridge is not as stable or reliable as it had been, especially on restore.
Is there a comparable tool that can be used like ADB, without unlocking bootloader or rooting?
Thus I started looking at TWRP and how to go about rooting (either of my Motos, G7 or Stylus 5G). Peeling through the onion, I have seen several notes that unlocking the phone bootloader will wipe all the data. Is this true? If so, it changes the process a bit.
Having the bootloader unlocked appears to be requirement of rooting, if not please correct me. I want to root the phone so that full backups w/app data, and other maintenance are available.

Hi - I just got this phone, and I like it. Its stock for now, been a minute since I rooted and rommed a phone.
But -
How do i format the SD card as internal storage??
Also, how do I swap the back/recent buttons? They're backwards from how I've been using them for a decade or more and it's pissing me off that I open my recent apps every time I mean to go backward...
Thanks in advance for the reply!

Greetings @jhavron. Very sorry for such a belated reply to your inquiry for info. I just ran across your post.
Like most AT&T, Verizon & TracFone (Straight Talk & Net10) branded Motorola devices, the XT2005DL is not supported by Motorola's bootloader unlocking protocol. As such, rooting, TWRP, Magisk, etc., are not possible. Anybody familiar with Motorola devices can confirm that devices with perma-locked bootloaders are as tough as Fort Knox when it comes to security -- especially Moto devices manufactured from 2015 to the present. For example, the Verizon Moto E (2nd Gen) LTE from 2015 cannot be bootloader unlocked. Now, over 5 years later, there is still no known method for the xt1528 device. Such is also the case with the XT2005DL: its locked down status will prevent any type of rooting methods or custom recovery flashes from working.
I wish my news could be more favorable.
Thanks for replying. I's good to know that someone reads the posts from the little guys. :good:

Again, sorry for such a belated reply. Yes, you are correct. Regardless of bootloader locked/unlocked state, you can flash your device with the official stock firmware package using fastboot mode, RSD-Lite, or the Lenovo-Moto Smart Rescue utility. There is but one rule of thumb to keep in mind: you can flash only a firmware package that is the same or a newer version than the version presently on your device. A locked bootloader will not allow you to downgrade firmware versions.
Official Motorola stock firmware packages for the XT2005DL (Codename: surfna) are available from this link. Again, it is recommended that you use the most recent build available, as downgrading firmware versions with a locked bootloader isn't permitted.

I use Greenify and have had the Pro version for years.
Mine is pretty much new. I bought it for work usage (keeping work-related things off my personal devices), in part for when I'd be at our partner's site every one or two weeks. But not long afterwards the scamdemic hit and I wasn't going to their site anymore.
And then since it wasn't upgradable past Android 9, my company blocked any Android versions 9 & below for Google services. So now it's not usable for ANYTHING I needed it for. I'd donate it but I don't think any group could use it since it's locked to TracFone. And the parts (glass & daughterboard) can't be used for fixing my personal Moto e5. Such a waste that it can't be repurposed.
So I'm having issues and not with the device just rooting in general years ago I remember i could just use a simple one click root but now it's way more deferent but I understand how it's done I been doing research my and found out my phone couldn't be rooted because it was a track phone so I went ahead and got a new one from Motorola and the build number is xt2115-1 definitely different then the last so what my issue is rooting requires a boot image but for the life of me I can't find a boot image so I can use magisk is it still possible to root this phone?

I recently purchased a used Moto G7 Power (US version) and discovered after flashing Lineage OS that the phone was still locked to T-Mobile. The seller thought he had successfully unlocked it and contacted T-mobile on my behalf since he's still a current customer. They told him to complete the unlock he needed to complete the following command, "Settings > More Connection Settings > Network Unlock > Permanent Unlock" Since I'm currently running LOS on the phone, I no longer have these options.
So it seems like I'd need to flash back to the T-Mobile stock ROM to successfully unlock the phone. Is that correct?
If so, would the following guide accomplish this? I'm not experienced with flashing software so I wanted to get a 2nd opinion before I start mucking around and inadvertently brick the phone.

You probably want the TMO version.
The article has outdated links (404) to the firmware files, but both the article and the XDA thread are linking to the same website.
The XDA thread and the Article are listing slightly different "fastboot" commands, but either guide might work. I haven't tried it.

Hi! I understand what u feel. And now there's a much easier way to restore your Motorola phone without much fear... Just put it in fastboot mode: Hold (Volume down+Power) While the phone is off. Let the software auto detect it... It will download the firmware version of the phone or the lastest one and Flash it for you. in just a few click . Oh you will need to register to the software that's all and it's all free..

1. Not on t-mobile.
2.I didn't find any bugs. I bought the retail us version.
3.It comes with 10. I am running 11 from Canada.
4. Root is easy, but not complete. You also need to get r/w access which is complicated but easy. Also any debloating requires the use of pm from an ADB shell or as a terminal command. There are good guides here on how to do all of this.
Custom ROMs are available, more on the Telegram channel.
Thank you Retief.
I went ahead and bought one and am setting it up.
One problem I'm facing is the touch screen is too sensitive. If I tap too forcefully near the top of a screen everything gets minimized (I forget the correct name for it). It's most annoying. Any ideas? Sensitivity controls?
Also, any way to get rid of the notch?
Thanks.
Mine is a usa T-mobile motorola moto one 5g ace, android 10, software variant t, model number xt2113-2, purchased April 20, 2022 from a T-mobile store. My old sim card would not fit. It's loaded with bloatware. I am also trying to root but its going to take some time to gather up all the correct programs and files so it doesn't brick. There's a Noob guide on this forum that offers great advice on how to root. I'll read it 5 more times before I do anything. If you do manage to root your phone please let us know how you did it.
I am rooted, r/w access obtained and debloated. I used the three guides on here.

That's terrific RETIEF.
Which 3 guides in here?
Did you hit any problems and if so how did you solve them?
Thanks.
The guides are in the guides section. The ones by Artcul8madness worked. Now that there is a working twrp, other methods are possible. You must unlock the bootloader first! I had no problems following the guides.
Thanks. Still a risky thing with bootloops, etc. I think I'll wait for the ota updates to Android 11 or 12.
I picked up one of these earlier this week (variant XT2113-2, 128GB just like yours) and am using it on T-Mobile in the US. It's working really well, no issues so far, and the 5G feels incredibly fast (it's my first 5G device - if speedtest.net is reliable, I'm consistently seeing >125Mbps download speeds in Los Angeles).
I specifically bought this phone to use with LineageOS, and the bootloader unlocking procedure and rooting went very smoothly. No issues at all so far with the device, LineageOS, or the unlocking/rooting.
Just as an aside, I opted for a used model off of Ebay, and they're going for between $150-$200 with the 128GB of storage ROM if you'd like to save some money.
Thank you for getting back to me. I too am well pleased with the phone and its performance.
I have been afraid to root it yet because of problems I read about.
1. How —exactly— did you root it?
2. Ive used lineageos on a previous phone. How well is it working for you on this phone?

Apologies for the delayed response, I thought I was set to receive email notifications for replies! I actually rooted it while flashing LineageOS - I first unlocked the bootloader by following the instructions on the LOS install page (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/kiev/install), then flashed Lineage Recovery via fastboot. From there, I rebooted into Lineage recovery (NOT the OS/system, it'll overwrite the new recovery), flashed the LineageOS ROM, then followed that with GApps and Magisk.
See the link I posted, you'll root it at step 6 under "Installing LineageOS from recovery". Download Magisk from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk, rename the .img file it gives you to a .zip, and you'll be able to flash it at Step 6 above via sideloading or over a microsd, same with google apps.
Lineage is working well so far! The only quirk is that the lockscreen likes to randomly wake up, but I'm not sure if that's just my secondhand phone's fault. Wifi calling and VoLTE all work on TMobile.
Let me know if I can be of any more help!
Thank you for getting back to me. You are very kind and helpful.
When I get enough courage I'll follow in your steps.
I've searched on this forum and Google days for any development on rooting the Cricket Wireless Motorola Moto G Pure (Ellis) XT2163-1 . Found a few stuff for XT2163-4, which is also Moto G Pure Ellis but for different carriers. How safe is flashing the boot image for that? How would I first make a backup before trying and, if failing, trying my hand at building TWRP Ellis? I did pay an unofficial service just to have my phone unlocked, but I don't know how to get any further.
