Moto one 5G Ace 2021 from Moto G7 - Moto G 5G Questions & Answers

I used a rooted Moto G7 on T-Mobil for quite a while. But it is now giving me some issues and I'm considering buying a 2021
Motorola One 5G Ace | 2021 from AmazonFor $299
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08NWD7K8H/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1
I have a few questions.
1. Anyone using T-Mobil with this phone? Any problems? Special simcard for 5G or will my G7 simcard work?
2. Bugs or problems with the Motorola one 5G 128GB?
3. Does it come with android 10 or 11?
4. How easy to root?
Thank you.

1. Not on t-mobile.
2.I didn't find any bugs. I bought the retail us version.
3.It comes with 10. I am running 11 from Canada.
4. Root is easy, but not complete. You also need to get r/w access which is complicated but easy. Also any debloating requires the use of pm from an ADB shell or as a terminal command. There are good guides here on how to do all of this.
Custom ROMs are available, more on the Telegram channel.

Thank you Retief.
I went ahead and bought one and am setting it up.
One problem I'm facing is the touch screen is too sensitive. If I tap too forcefully near the top of a screen everything gets minimized (I forget the correct name for it). It's most annoying. Any ideas? Sensitivity controls?
Also, any way to get rid of the notch?
Thanks.

Mine is a usa T-mobile motorola moto one 5g ace, android 10, software variant t, model number xt2113-2, purchased April 20, 2022 from a T-mobile store. My old sim card would not fit. It's loaded with bloatware. I am also trying to root but its going to take some time to gather up all the correct programs and files so it doesn't brick. There's a Noob guide on this forum that offers great advice on how to root. I'll read it 5 more times before I do anything. If you do manage to root your phone please let us know how you did it.

I am rooted, r/w access obtained and debloated. I used the three guides on here.

That's terrific RETIEF.
Which 3 guides in here?
Did you hit any problems and if so how did you solve them?
Thanks.

The guides are in the guides section. The ones by Artcul8madness worked. Now that there is a working twrp, other methods are possible. You must unlock the bootloader first! I had no problems following the guides.

Thanks. Still a risky thing with bootloops, etc. I think I'll wait for the ota updates to Android 11 or 12.

I picked up one of these earlier this week (variant XT2113-2, 128GB just like yours) and am using it on T-Mobile in the US. It's working really well, no issues so far, and the 5G feels incredibly fast (it's my first 5G device - if speedtest.net is reliable, I'm consistently seeing >125Mbps download speeds in Los Angeles).
I specifically bought this phone to use with LineageOS, and the bootloader unlocking procedure and rooting went very smoothly. No issues at all so far with the device, LineageOS, or the unlocking/rooting.
Just as an aside, I opted for a used model off of Ebay, and they're going for between $150-$200 with the 128GB of storage ROM if you'd like to save some money.

Thank you for getting back to me. I too am well pleased with the phone and its performance.
I have been afraid to root it yet because of problems I read about.
1. How —exactly— did you root it?
2. Ive used lineageos on a previous phone. How well is it working for you on this phone?

Apologies for the delayed response, I thought I was set to receive email notifications for replies! I actually rooted it while flashing LineageOS - I first unlocked the bootloader by following the instructions on the LOS install page (https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/kiev/install), then flashed Lineage Recovery via fastboot. From there, I rebooted into Lineage recovery (NOT the OS/system, it'll overwrite the new recovery), flashed the LineageOS ROM, then followed that with GApps and Magisk.
See the link I posted, you'll root it at step 6 under "Installing LineageOS from recovery". Download Magisk from here: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk, rename the .img file it gives you to a .zip, and you'll be able to flash it at Step 6 above via sideloading or over a microsd, same with google apps.
Lineage is working well so far! The only quirk is that the lockscreen likes to randomly wake up, but I'm not sure if that's just my secondhand phone's fault. Wifi calling and VoLTE all work on TMobile.
Let me know if I can be of any more help!

Thank you for getting back to me. You are very kind and helpful.
When I get enough courage I'll follow in your steps.

Google Pixel 3 noobie queries

Hi!
I come from the Galaxy S series (S4, S5, S7) phones and I m considering of buying a Google Pixel 3
I can find many decent options, all of which are carrier unlocked
My concern with the Pixel 3 is whether I ll be able to install Android vanilla (without any carrier-related bloatware)
For all of my Samsung's so far, I could easily pick the retail ROM (well not exactly 'vanilla'!) from sammobile and load it with Odin (without breaking the knox)
Can I do something similar in the Pixel 3 or are there any security mechanisms to prevent me? (I m talking about installing original ROM - not custom..)
Bonus question - does any of you know if the Pixel 3 from Verizon and US Cellular have branding [carrier logo(s)] on the device?
Thank you in advance!
Well, you will certainly avoid the Samsung bloatwear. I have a P3 from Google and got my son's P3 through T-mobile. It did not have any additional T-mobile bloat on it, but I don't know about the big V.

I can find it via Verizon and US Cellular - hopefully none of which have put logos on it..
I have one more - rather embarassing question: do you have to use a Google account in order to use the Pixel 3? For several other Android phones that I know of - it's optional. You can still skip this step and use the phone without having to tie the phone with Google. But can you do that on the P3?
Any more hints on that and my ROM-related queries would be really helpful! Thanks

Verizon branded Pixel 3s have locked bootloaders, which prevent rooting or custom ROMs (vanilla AOSP would be a custom ROM). According to the flashing instructions at https://developers.google.com/android/images, you also need to unlock the bootloader to flash a google factory image.
I'm not sure if you can skip the google account. If you really want to avoid google services, my recommendation would be to install LineageOS, with no gapps.

Hmm...if the 3s has that, then the 3 will also have it :/
But I m confused...would I be able to unlock the bootloader?
I can see from this page: https://developers.google.com/android/images#blueline that 'blueline' is that vanilla AOSP version that corresponds to the P3 (right?)
The G account issue is less important. I just don't like 'syncing' stuff (accounts, photos etc). Worse case scenario, I ll create an empty profile, just for the logon

3s is not a model, it is the plural of 3. A Verizon Pixel 3 usually cannot be boot loader unlocked, but if you search this forum, you will find a few special cases where it has been done. One such case is at https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...branded-pixel-3-how-is-this-possible.4267273/
Vanilla AOSP generall refers to a ROM without any google services. See https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/53171/what-exactly-is-in-aosp for more info. Blueline is the Pixel 3 factory image, which has all the google services. It does not have any added carrier bloatware, but I wouldn't call it a vanilla AOSP.
You can turn off all the syncing stuff, and you may be able to skip the google account part. I just can't definitely say you can skip the google account because I have not tried it.
Another consideration with a locked bootloader is the end support date. Google support for the Pixel 3 ends in October, 4 months from now. There will be no security updates from Google after October. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you can switch to LineageOS and continue to receive security updates. That is what I plan to do.

Clear!
I ll check on the resources you ve listed here
If the V-branded P3 is troublesome as it sounds, perhaps I should just go for the US Cellular carrier option. Bootloader may also be locked (but we know for sure that the V is..)
Interestingly, the US Cellular P3 is unlocked to all GSM carriers except Verizon, Boost, Virgin Mobile and Sprint
Is the carrier lock specified in the bootloader?
Btw, thanks for all the help!

SIM (carrier) unlock and bootloader unlock are separate, and not related. I have no idea if US Cellular is bootloader unlocked. Google sold a global model, which is the bootloader unlocked version, and the one I have. The IMEI/MEID number of the global variant begins with 990012 (don't know how many digits are significant). If I was buying it, I'd ask the seller to confirm it was bootloader unlocked.
Glad I could help.

The two P3 options I m considering (Verizon + US Cellular), both are sealed in their original box. According to that post, if the P3 hasn't ever being turned on, which is probably then when bootloader becomes locked
So I wonder if there is a SIM that comes with the phone already and that I have to remove that prior booting the phone. Not sure what he means with "VZW SIM". Is it a different type of SIM e.g. an eSIM??
I know for fact that these phones are CDMA-locked and only GSM is unlocked (but that's what I need anyways)
Does anyone here have any experience from an US Cellular P3 - is the bootloader locked? (the retailer of the phone doesn't seem to know much on such details..)

VZW SIM is just a Verizon SIM. It is probably the standard SIM card, not an eSIM. I would remove the SIM prior to booting, just to be safe. According to one of those posts, WiFi had to be connected before they could unlock the bootloader.

I ll find out soon, I ve ordered the P3 (US cellular stock)
Seller claims that it is sealed in original box. If that's really the case, then the carrier can't have put a SIM into it, right? But what about an eSIM? If they have the eSIM pre-programmed, then I can't possibly avoid booting the phone with it..

Hmmm I think the way it works is that when the phone is produced, for a specific carrier, and the carrier wants it to have a sim, it's put in at the factory. So, I think, sealed with a sim in it, possible.
I don't think us cellular uses e-sims. Double check that but it doesn't look like one of the carriers that's capable of e-sims.
cheers, good luck. I have a vzw coming today, hoping it's new and can unlock as others have... we'll know soon.
Good news! Just got the phone and ... I ve managed to unlock the bootloader!
Exactly same case as described here. No SIM inserted, connected to WIFI, and in Dev Options, turned OEM unlocking to ON!
Then, on the instructions (link by opensense), I ve used adb and the bootloader is now unlocked! I m really chuffed about it
(btw the US Cellular supplied SIM was attached on the box (outside) with a sticker. Box was sealed.
Now, all is left is for me to pick that 'cleaner' Android option I always wanted!
But which one should it be? It's currently running blueline MP1.0(ROW)
Is there any clearer (official) Android ROM that I should switch to instead?
From G services, I would like to keep the Playstore and Maps...

Congratulations. You'll have to define what you mean by the term "cleaner (official)" ROM. Blueline is the only official Google ROM for the Pixel 3. Anything else will be a custom ROM. I have no experience with any of the Pixel custom ROMs, so can't offer any advice on those.
You can disable most of the unwanted Google services in the blueline ROM. I'd recommend keeping the backup service, though.
Blueline MP1.0(ROW) is not a version listed at https://developers.google.com/android/images#blueline Go to Settings, About Phone, and tap Android Version. Check the "Android security update" date. Latest is June 5, 2021. I suspect yours is quite old.
If you want to update to the current blueline version, you have 2 options, OTA or flash a new factory image.
For OTA, go to Settings, System, System update, and follow instructions.
To flash a new factory image, follow the instructions at the link above. To prevent wiping your data when flashing, edit the flash-all.bat or flash-all.sh file, and remove the "-w" from the last line.
I you intend to change ROM's, I wouldn't bother updating.
Good luck.

I think I ll probably stick with the official one then. My current is PQ1A.181105.017.A1 (which is very old as you guessed)
Which means I can jump to Android 10 or 11. From my experience, latest isn't always the best so I might have to keep reading, see if I should jump to a latest build of 10 instead. My emphasis is on stability/security - not new features...
And I want to ensure that the camera is at its best

If security is a concern, you'll want to go to Android 11. 10 has not been updated since August 2020, when Android 11 came out. Also, I believe there have been camera improvements since August 2020, which would not be in the latest Android 10 build.
I have not seen any reports of stability problems with the June 2021 Android 11 update, which has the latest security patches.
I don't know if you can do an OTA update to Android 11 from Android 9. You might have to go from 9 to 10 to 11. You can flash the Android 11 image without going to 10 first.
I intend to do via flashing (whichever version I decide in the end). Not a fan of OTA

Question Oneplus 9 LE2117 root process(T-Mobile)

With the differences between the EU, Global variants, and software versions listed in the threads I've gone through, I am having trouble finding a guide that I am sure would be applicable to root my Oneplus 9 LE2117 11.2.5.5-LE54CB. (T-Mobile)(US)
My device is SIM unlocked, and the bootloader is unlocked, but I am unsure of the best method to root.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks for the response. I believe that's the last step I have to complete to be done, but that is where I seem to be getting lost. I can't find a boot image for the specific model and software numbers I have. From the threads I have read I think I could use the boot image for software version 11.2.2.2 but I am uncertain.
I went ahead and used the boot.img for 11.2.2.2 and it looks like it worked.

You need 11.2.5.5 boot.img from any region. Then follow the instructions install magisk.
just use the AA image for tmobile. patch the image with magisk the file will go to your download file then fastboot boot the img file from the one get from magisk after patching and you will gain temp root. direct install with magisk and reboot. if you get into a bootloop. reset devices from recovery and you will still retain root after the reset. i have installed empty slot ota and direct install. bootlooped on ota empty slot but reset from recover fixed problem instantly and retained root. direct install no bootloop retained root.
Does anyone care to comment with insights or experiences in regards
to Rooting with Magisk which will allow for the installation on a Custom ROM at a later time -
that is, when a stable Lineage OS for example is available for the OP-9 (t-Mobile) ?
Thank You in Advance !
I doubt it but anything is possible. with the process to convert to different variants being fairly simple and accessible there will be very little focus on that particular software. It is compatible with gloabal pathched boot image to gain root and from there your pretty much able to customize to do what ever your heart desires.

Quick little bump, but I'm on 11.2.7.7.LE54CB. Has anything still changed or would I still be good to go to use the 11.2.8.8. boot.img to root or the latest 11.2.9.9.LE25AA from OnePlus's site directly?

Need help here! I forgot to backup my oneplus 9 pro LE2127 when I tried to root my phone using TWRP,and I installed TWRP in my phone's boot partition which wiped out all data in that partition. Used MSM tool backe to T-Mobile 11.2.5.5 and still same problem, sim card can be read but no signal. Flashed T-Mobile modem but modem b failed, it says no such partition.
Bought this phone from third party. Any suggestion is appreciated.

I understand that yes but my problem is that I don't have a laptop or PC to run the program so I'm trying to find another way to get the firmware for my Edge 2021, And if I can't do that is there any custom ROM compatible with this device that I could use to patch it with magisk?
So far I have not seen any custom ROMs supporting this device (I think it should come eventually; the last gen has support).
This post includes a download link for an up to date Android 11 ROM. I haven't used it yet though. I'm a little nervous about downloading ROMs from random links, but since I used the guide from the same user (last post you replied to), it feels trustworthy. But use at your own risk.

oh forgive me for forgetting to mention this...
but I'm 99% sure you REQUIRE a PC to flash images onto a phone, since you use the adb debug tool to manipulate the phone while it's in fastboot mode.

This post includes a download link for an up to date Android 11 ROM. I haven't used it yet though. I'm a little nervous about downloading ROMs from random links, but since I used the guide from the same user (last post you replied to), it feels trustworthy. But use at your own risk.
Edge 2021 (unlocked) special flashing guide
You can manually update to latest Android 11 (April patch) Bootloader unlock may be required. Download the ROM...

Okay I understand, I'll just take my chances and hopefully I don't brick my device...

I did try it but instead of fully flashing the img I just did fastboot boot so that it would only boot into it one time and it didn't work at all so my only chance of rooting my device is using a PC to get the firmware of my phone, And thanks for the help.

Android 12 - KB2007 released

Android 12 just dropped for TMobile OnePlus8T. I already want to roll back to 11 but after reading the guides none of them work and I'm assuming it's because you can't do that on a KB2007. But my phone is carrier and bootloader unlocked?
I'm struggling because mine is going to force the update at night, even tho I have automatic updates disabled on developer options. I have been looking for a way to stop it but nothing seems to work, not even the adb command to uninstall/disable the updater package. I don't know what else to do beside turning off the phone every night so it doesn't update itself.

Thank you for the information. Sadly mine can't be rooted yet. Once I'm able to get the unlock from T-Mobile I'll definitely try that.

[Guide] Stock Verizon G7 (A8) to Rooted LineageOS 20 (A13)

I would just like to say that I was a late comer to this phone and its been a long time since I've had a decent phone I could BL unlock, root, and tweak to my geek hearts content. The information on this particular forum, is so spread out and contradicting, it was a bit disheartening, but I eventually took my Verizon G7 from the original stock fw
G710VM10f to LOS20 without a single issue, and I'd like to just relay the exact steps I took, just in case some one might find it helpful.
So, starting from 100% stock Verizon fw...
***CREATED BACKUPS***and then:
1. Unlocked Bootlader - I followed the steps exactly, skipping 15-23
2. Crossflashed to g710em30f - LGUP DUAL or any LG UP with Partition DL option is acceptable.
3. Added OrangeFox | LineageOS 20 | MindTheGapps to my SD Card.
4. Rebooted into EDL
5. Used QFIL to flash ofox_metadata.img to boot_a and boot_b
6. Rebooted into OF recovery and did a full format and typed 'YES'.
7. Flashed LineageOS .zip (DO NOT REBOOT)
8. Flashed OrangeFox-R11.0_2.3-Stable-judyln.zip (Reboots to recovery automatically)
9. Flashed MindTheGapps
10. Flashed Magisk (Using OrangeFox built-in method)
11. OrangeFox Menu --> Manage Partitions --> Select Data --> Change FS --> F2FS
12. Reboot
13. PROFIT!
NOTE: I included my rooted boot img file just in case anyone needs it (30G EM FW)
I had to install the Magisk Manager upon completion of setup, but everything else went flawlessly, my service works just fine, all the other weird little issues I've seen people having were absent in my particular experience. So, follow my steps and I would imagine the same would be allowed for others. If there is any questions on specifics, I'd be happy to answer them. Also, its been a while since I've been active here, but hope all is well with everyone and glad to be back.
Good luck!
Sweet!I'm a newbie on the G7 side as well, and have the same Verizon variant!Sad fact,I have AT&T as my carrier and in the states I haven't seen not 1 CFW works with the service due to IMS b.s.!I did manage to switch to the Brightpoint ULM firmware and it works 100%.Good post though!Good to see others are still using the G7!
I'm still running my LG G7 (Verizon, Verizon as the carrier, stock, rooted, debloated, etc) on Android 9.
Nice to see this guide here, just in case I want/need to switch.
You mentioned that your service works fine, which is great to hear:
Some questions:
- Are you on Verizon as a carrier?
- do you have VoLTE working? (I'm assuming 'yes', since you said service is fine.)
I had heard that LineageOS and VoLTE (and anything else that required IMS) was a problem -- has this been fixed? Or, perhaps, was it that your phone was previously activated using the stock ROM?
thanks!

I am currently on Verizon, yes, in Michigan if that helps, the service works great, if not better because I opened up a few other bands myself, but I wont be explaining all that here.
As for Volte, as far as I'm aware, Volte will never work on an Android 10+ rom, and that isn't likely to change unfortunately, but I can live without Volte if it means I can run A13 on this bad boy...lol
If you try A13 out. lemme know how it goes and if you thought it was worth it, if you wouldn't mind.
Thanks!

It doesn't!I have have already tried it myself.Like he stated in his last post,IMS will probably never work on any custom rom.Not as of yet anyway!
Well the thing is, since Verizon turned off all the 3G service at the end of the year, and @IJoxer was saying above that his service is working fine -- sure seems like there's gotta be IMS working somehow? (It is also highly possible that I don't understand all the details about how voice can be made to work in a post 3G world...)

The Verizon variant is the easiest to cross flash! No partition erasing needed, and I'm using Brightpoint firmware on my Verizon variant and my carrier is AT&T.Everything works except wifi calling, but I didn't care about that anyway! As goes for CFW's,it's a lost cause at the moment in the states unless some magical trick surfaces.
