Feedback Installing LineageOS 14 on P3100 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi There,
My happiness was short-lived while Flashing an Old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100.
The Progress I made so far was:
1. ODIN Flashing
2. Able to Install TWRP Recoveries
3. Copied LineageOS and GApps all said Successfully installed
4. Finally rebooted after doing some cache cleaning, but the LineageOS logo appears in the boot and remained booting for about 2 hours. I lost my patience afterward and I switched off the Tab.
5. Tried restarting but the same LineageOS screen goes on and on doesn't bring the setup screen.
I am so curious to know
1. is there People in here who successfully installed LineageOS 14 and booted successfully?
2. How long did the initial boot take?

If I am to redo the process again, please correct if I should do the following
1. I have successfully installed TWRP hence I reckon I don't need to do it again
2. I will download the latest LineageOS and GApps and copy it to Internal Storage
3. Install both using TWRP
4. Clear cache
5. Reboot.
I hope I am doing correctly?

Copy files to external sd card. Then reboot to Twrp, select wipe. Select system, data, dalvik cache, internal storage and then install rom.
EDIT : Take a backup of internal storage if you want like photos, videos, etc.

Why internal storage?? That will delete all the data like pictures, videos, apps etc

Normally that's the procedure right ??? Even I never wiped internal storage but I did if the rom would give problems. And since there are problems for him (which I never faced installing any lineage rom) maybe wiping everything might work.

No its wiping Dalvik, Cache, Data, System

Hi, I'm too trying to get a bit more life out of my ageing Tab 2 I've been following the instructions on the LineageOS website but I don't seem to be able to find the link to the actual ROM. I download a twrp file but that was only a few MB and obviously the ROM is much bigger.
I'd be grateful if somebody could point me at the link to where the ROM actually is.
Many Thanks
Steve

Thanks I'll give that a go.

OK I've obviously over estimated my technical abilities. Does anybody have a idiots guide to flashing a Tab 2?

I'm trying to flash the device with Heimdall and the twrp img file and putting in the commands and I'm getting the device '\\.\usb longidnumber' is no longer connected!
It worked once but I let the device reboot normally so it didn't go into TWRP mode and now I can't seem to reflash it if I boot it into recovery mode I get the normal Android options.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Steve

I am having a problem getting the Google Play store working, I've downloaded the APKs for the Play Store and Google Play Services from APK Mirror. But when I launch the Play Store app it crashes when I hit the button to sign in.
Suggestions please.

Installing apka is not going to install gapps. You need to install a gapps zip while installing the rom. That means, now you'll have to download gapps zip i am giving you and then again wipe system, data, dalvic cache and then install rom and then gapps zip.
Install these gapps by @Deltadroid : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=5862345805528062385

Lol good luck with gapps and lag lool..
Do your homework before you do something! Android 7 + gapps = mega lag = unusable.
Read some more ... and stop listening people without proper knowledge.
Tip: don't use gapps at all, specially on prehistoric devices.

Yeah it was quite slow when it started up, but I disabled stuff I don't need and blocked some more from running in the background and while it's never going to be super whizzy it will be usable.
Thanks to everyone for their help, onto my old Note 10.1 now

Try android 6 roms and android 4.4.4 roms.
Resurrection remix : https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQICBAC&usg=AOvVaw1PxtYepshuVJGhwILyAok1
This is the best as per my experience. Its android 6 and also fast. It is fastest without gapps but if you are going to install some apps, not all of them might function correctly without gapps.
Lineage os 13 : https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjABegQIAxAC&usg=AOvVaw0ngVERkcUHwdW6OdL7FTx8
This is another great one and works well. Again, with gapps it's slow (and mostly all roms are)
Slimrom 4.4 : https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQIAxAC&usg=AOvVaw1pIY6ZrmjDiXzCAxuW-p9R
To be honest, this rom would have been the first in my list but it isn't because it's kitkat (4.4.4) and that means less apps support. It is fast and stable.
Last suggestion : don't go for android 7 roms. Without gapps they are as slow as android 6 roms with gapps.

[Q] Google Maps missing; Unable to install Katkernel (EOS4 JB)

Hi guys!
I just rooted my TF101 with ROM 4.2 JB (Team EOS 4 *JELLYBEAN MR1* Nightlies) thru Peri. I also installed Gapps from the link provided. Besides a few slowups on some events (especially when I'm connected to the PC), everything seems good so far but some apps are missing like Google Maps. So far that's the only app I know that's missing since I don't really know what Gapps contain. I've also tried to install KatKernel but when I do it just get stuck at the EOS logo starting up.
I'd appreciate any insights on this. This is the first time I rooted my tablet so please go easy on me
Thanks in advance!!

Welcome to the forum!
First, I assume you are using a CWM (ROGUE?) Recovery that came with PERI.
Since using CWM, I discovered Team Win Recovery Project. I like it a LOT better than CWM. It backs up the kernel when doing a nandroid, and it has all of the wipe commands in one locations.
I highly recommend using TWRP. The latest version is compatilbe with the the new file structure of 4.2 (/storage/emulated/0/) for the internal storage. If you use other recoveries, most likey when you flash a newer version of the firmware you will end up with your old internal storage mounted at /storage/emulated/0/0/ and have to move it up a level. Do a couple of flashes and you will have /0/0/0/0/.
However, back to the topic at hand, did you wipe the following before flashing:
Cache
Davlik Cache
System
Factory Reset (in recovery)
If you skipped any of those, when changing ROMs it can cause issues.
I am running TeamEOS4 and maps install no problem form the Play Store.
If you want TWRP, check out the thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818452
It is pretty easy to install once you are rooted.

[Q] [Team Canjica] OmniROM 4.3 missing Play Store and Google account

I have updated stock Android 4.1.2 on Samsung Galaxy S Advance to Team Canjica OmniROM 4.3 (omni-4.3.1-20131218-janice-HOMEMADE.zip). Everything finished successfully. But when I restarted my device I can not see a Play Store app and in system settings in accounts there is no account type of Google. So I can not sign in and use my device. I also tried to install (omni-4.3.1-20131208-janice-HOMEMADE.zip) but it ends the same.
Please help me. Or maybe I am missing something and I should add my Google account somewhere else. I also tried to add it as exchanged account, but it can not connect to server.
Warning: No file_contexts
I am also getting following message during flash:
Warning: No file_contexts
but flash progress bar is still moving and when it has finished I can reboot to system but Play store app is missing
Second atempt
I tried one more time. I have restored stock Android 4.1.2 by download mode, then rooted and then installed again update with custom ROM, but still get the same warning and Play store and Google account is missing

Did you install Gapps (for Android 4,3)? And did you do a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cache?

Yes I have followed the instruction.
I have done a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cach.
Then installed OmniROM and Gapps.
After rebooting system I am missing Play store and Google account.
I have also rebooted to recovery mode and made once again a factory reset / wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, but it also did not help.
No I realized that even I have installed in recovery mode: Gapps it was also missing after rebooting to system.

Sounds like you forgot to download and flash the appropriate GApps package for your new ROM. Carefully re read the OP of that ROM thread and find the link for downloading GApps. GApps are the Google App packages for AOSP based ROMS. Those packages usually include the Playstore and other Google Apps.

Sounds like your Gapps package isn't fully installing. I would try installing the ROM, boot into the ROM and let it settle. Then reboot to recovery and install Gapps.

I will try to install Gapps after first reboot.
Can you confirm that this is correct Gapps file I should install?
goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
Previously when I tried to install Gapps there was displayed success message,
but after installing ROM there was only message: Warning: No file_contexts
but as far as I found on forum I should ignore this message.
But it was strange that there was no success message after installing ROM even if install progress was still moving when this warning was displayed.

That is the correct Gapps package for most 4.3 Roms. As I am not familiar with your ROM, I would double check the OP to make sure that is the package you should be using.

I use the same ROM with the same Gapps file. It works fine for me.
I have had the same problem when I had forgotten to wipe the dalvik cache after installing a new ROM, but if you have already done that (and again), I don't know what else to suggest (apart from retrying everything from scratch).

Woes of my Infuse

I start with a fresh wipe of my phone and then install BeanStalk with gapps (I'm currently using BS version 4.4.275 with gapps 20140105. Everything is fine for months. Then a couple of apps will start to crash a few times (the camera, dialer, browser and google apps). I've stopped using titanium backup and clockwork mod to restore my data because they were causing issues. Then the force closes become more and more frequent. I ran fix permissions and i have know clue if it helped or not. Then finally all hell breaks loose and everything begins to force close and give errors of no space left on phone. No launcher will stay open everything just bugs out. This seems to be an on going matter. It doesn't seem to resolve no matter what rom I run. I've gone through every folder sizing it and my phone is not out of space. I am getting very frustrated with my Infuse. I don't understand what some of the stuff means in my catlog file. If someone could help I'd greatly appreciate it.
i found out that Google+ and Google Drive might be the cause (such as when you upload or backup your photos to those clouds)
if you have time, go read those last 10 pages of BeanStalks, you will see what others have offered to resolve this issues
as for me, I'd do full wipe, specially format the sdcard0 (keep the Rom and Gapps to your SDcard1), and stop using the two Google services mentioned above. and use another Gapps (I am using the minimal one) Good luck!
Same problem with Unofficial CM 11.2 also
Exactly the same issue I am having with Unofficial CM 11.2 from scott.
I have been using Scott Harts Unofficial CM from 10.1 to 11.2 on my Samsung infuse and each time i notice a pattern.
Each of the above ROMs start out pretty smooth, and the phone works without any issues for 6 months or so. Then occasionally and app or two start crashing. Then in a weeks time all hell breaks loose and almost all apps start crashing such that the phone becomes unusable. Especially trebuchet starts crashing and that is the end of story.
In the past i have noticed this happens a month or so after an updated rom has been released and I used to upgrade to the new one and the cycle continues.
I am currently on the latest Unoffical CM 11_2 (Kitkat) and the appropriate Gapps installed and the same issue has happened twice.
I have tried the following to fix the issue and nothing helps
1. Clear data for trebuchet and a bunch of other apps.
2. Reinstall Gapps
3. Wipe Cache >> Wipe Dalvik Cache
4. Wipe Cache >> Wipe Dalvik Cache > install Gapps
5. Wipe Cache >> Wipe Dalvik Cache > install custom Rom >> install gapps >> wipe cache and dalvik again
The only way I have been able to get it working in the past is
1. Wipe data/factory reset > Clear Cache > clear Dalvik cache and possibly reinstall ROM and gapps (not sure, but I guess factory reset also does the trick)
So my phone is stuck in this mode and I would like to help debug the situation. Can someone help with the next steps? So that I can capture all required information before I do a factory reset .
Unable to get RSA prompt
Well I went ahead with a factory reset, installed Unofficial CM11_2 from Scott. Got the latest gapps from goo.im and phone seems normal again. But that is the expected behavior untill it starts acting up again.
I tried a lot to connect the phone through ADB and each time it remains unauthorized.
I tried on 2 different laptops, Windows 7, Windows Vista as well as Ubuntu - it always remained unauthorized and no matter what i tried ... changing USB ports , OS machines...nothing helped.
I never got the RSA signature prompt on my phone so could not do anything with ADB.
Any body has any ideas ?

Not sure about the other ROM's. I could go on a flashing journey, but I have two new devices I'm getting adjusted to right now. If you are not tied down to CM (don't know if it's your DD), I would suggest trying Carbon or CyanFox.
Me, I didn't need ADB that much at the time so I stuck with what I have. Not a solution, but I hope you find a ROM that works (partnered with a minimal gapps).

Unfortunately the infuse is the only phone I have (so my DD)...but the lure to test the ADB on carbon is also compelling for me. Let me try moving to a non smart phone and try this out.
OK. So i installed the Carbon KK nightly, and encountered the same issue. adb devices always lists the phone as
0123456789ABCDEF unauthorized.
Also i never received the rsa prompt...
Moreover the device key seems to suggest it is some default value as compared to an actual device key.
Got it Working !!!
Ok so finally got it working.
I moved away from Scott's Unofficial CM11_2 on my daily driver and moved to Carbon ROM. Loving the new rom so far.
Once i moved to this ROM, I started adb on my desktop (adb kill-server, adb start-server) and was waiting
then on phone enabled Developer options and Android debugging over USB and connected the phone to desktop, and zingggg I get the RSA prompt.
One important thing it read is that you phone should be unlocked when you connect it to your desktop, so in case you have things like PIN or gestures that lock your screen....ensure that your screen is not locked when the phone is being connected.
Not sure if this was the issue or if it was the CM rom,,,but issue is resolved, I am loving Carbon...so not going back to CM to check the lockscreen theory....but worth a try for someone who is pulling his/her hair out like i was.
Ciao !!!
---------- Post added at 05:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:41 PM ----------
missed mentioning that do not worry about the device id of 0123456789ABCDEF....i noticed it does not change for me even when adb connects properly.
It is the unauthorised state that needs to change to device.
What's the default launcher on Carbon, or does it give you a choice like Beanstalk?
Will be retiring the Infuse soon, so am thinking on what ROM to put on when I go to sell it (or give away). The requirement is that is not overwhelming to a new user. Cyanogenmod has a lot of customization, but it doesn't necessarily get in the way. I'd call it borderline overwhelming. Beanstalk is quite overwhelming, because you are forced to pick a launcher right from the beginning (even though I like it for the Jellybean qualities).
Because of these, I just may return it to stock, but have it rooted and with CWM.

I do not see any option to select a launcher like Scotts CM had. So i guess there is no direct option to select it.
Quick search in the running apps shows Launcher 3 running, and apk also available in the priv-app folder in rom, so can conclude launcher is Launcher3.
I did not find it overwhelming in any way.

I flashed it last night (latest nightly), and it gave me the option of either Launcher3 or Google Now Launcher. I think if someone who was new to the device would be stumped a little by this, but would probably select the Google Now one (the question would be would they press once or always) and be done with it.
Having something recognizable runs at an advantage here compared to Beanstalk, where, unless you know CyanogenMod (or have played with a lot of launchers) you wouldn't know what to select. That would be overwhelming.
Anyway, I wiped the data again, breezed through setup (skipped everything but language and time zone), so it's all ready to go. If need be I can get them set up with a network and Google account before I throw them to the wind.
EDIT:
I see why I got the prompt ... I used the Paranoid Android micro apps package, which includes ... the Google Now Launcher.

Hi,
I was using CM 10.1 from Scott for like a year and didn't have any trouble at all, really the best ROM. Only had two small problems: wouldn't film on 720p without bugging, and MHL to HDMI was not working.
Now I installed CM 11, with latest gapps ( didn't know there was a CM11.2 ), and camera issue on filming is the same. But now it's worse, battery life is lasting half the time it was before, and gallery is crap, bugging every time. Did you have the same issues? Tell me the post of CM11.2 please..

Not sure about this, but I think CM 11.2 is referred to as KitKat 4.4.4, which would be latest in the CM thread. So you are probably already running it.

apart from the issues that i mentioned - my experience with CM 11.2 has been great. There are some obvious things like MHL etc that do not work, but those are known issues.

You can download the Nova Launcher from the google play store if you want to have the same experience as with Scotts Beanstalk. I love the carbon ROM but I am so accustomed to the Nova launcher that I cant live without it.

OK the exact same problem has started again today on Carbon ROM. Wonder if this is a Cyanogen thing, as that seems to be common between the two.
Anyone else facing this ?

Hmm, don't think I kept a ROM on my Infuse long enough to encounter this problem (except for my several months with CM 10.1, no issues). As for other phones, I use Jellybean on my semi-retired HTC and did not have this problem (closest I came was when I tried out Fly-On mod - lag closures often). But I don't think It's a Jellybean problem.
I think (and this may have been covered already) this has to do with the piddly datadata partition filling up. One way to check is open a terminal emulator (app on the phone of adb shell) and type:
Code:
df
Look for datadata in that listing. If it is in the 90% range, that spells trouble. If that is the case, you could try one of two solutions.
I don't know what possessed the developers to separate the data partitions in KitKat (I know, for "performance reasons") but leave 1/2 a GB for it. Lower end phones these days give you twice that.
Over the past few years or so I've installed ROMs going back to ICS. 99% of the time there was absolutely no issue. I habitually do a (1) factory wipe, (2) dalvik wipe, (3) system format, (4) sdcard0 format, (5) install ROM zip, (6) install gapps, (7) wipe cache and (8) wipe dalvik.
In the hundreds of ROMs I've installed and tested, 1 or 2 were bad compiles, and everyone soon knew it. They were immediately removed from any host site. So, if you're having issues, (1) install you ROM as above, (2) perhaps install a smaller gapps, and/or (3) check that you're not overloading your phone from the PlayStore.
The last and rarest issue could be your phone, but rule of thumb that works 99% of the time is: (1) assume it's always your fault first, and (2) read, read, read, read, read.

P3110 - Multiple ROMS, Same issue... (Slowness)

Hey,
I am on my last ditch attempt of a fix here, I have installed multiple roms to my P3110 and whenever I play on specific games the device slows them down, the sound and the game play around 50% slower than normal.
I have tried CM12, Candy5, SlimLP, Slimkat and the only fix I have is to go to Stock 4.4.2 Jellybean and lose move to SD Card functionality.
Any assistance would be appreciated as I was using this tablet for my sons xmas present and would love more app space.
Thanks.
*EDIT* It seems any other jellybean rom works, it just has trouble with KitKat and Lollipop...
Hello, and Merry Christmas.
I am going to have this thread moved to the Galaxy Tab 2 help forum, where there will be experts with your device that can help you resolve your issue.
Best of luck!

The thing is you need not need a custom rom. Stock roms is better, As there is this app called XPOSED which have a lots of facilities like moving obb files to sd card by just copying it to sd card, changing the navigation bar to the lolipop nav bar etc...it is a useful app. Here is the link install this app and install the framework and reboot once. Then search for obb 2 sd In modules., install that and reboot. Now once u have dwnloaded a game with obb open it once and then close it. Now you can move thae obb file to sd card in folder android» obb.
Here is the link for xposed.http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer.

I've tried Xposed but it isn't working correctly, and I was having an issue with the device being slow beforehand so I thought I'd use a lighter rom and everything ran perfect bar gaming apps...

Greetings;
Stock ROM's are the Safer (Less Bugs) but have tons of garbage (Bloatware). Wich Consumes quite some Battery and Memmory.
Custom ROM's on the other Hand can have tons of Bugs, Perform Faster, Consume More Battery if they are Cyanogen Mods, and sometimes Brick your Device.
In any case fear not. As it is most likely to be solved quite easily.
I'm not Expert on This Specific Device (actually just got this tablet), but the solutions are very similar for each Samsung Android Device, ROM Version or Other Brand.
1) Download your p3110 ROM (Stock ROM) (You can get it from Sammobile Website)
2) Perform a Clean Flash (You can check my Thread for i9003-SL in order to know how to perform a Clean Flash)
Thread for i9003-SL Flashing Tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-sl/general/rgxhost-ddlf2-complete-tutorial-t2837212)
[IMPORTANT REMINDER]
- The Thread Link i Mention Above is Just for Reference on how to Perform a Clean Install;
- The Files in that Thread ARE NOT for your Galaxy Tab S2;
... The Thread serves for Reference so you can Learn on how to do things Properly.
3) When your Device Starts on it's 1st System Load, interrupt it and boot it under "Recovery Mode"
4) Under Recovery Mode; Clean Dalvik, Cache, and then Perform a Factory Reset. (Don't worry if you don't have the Wipe Cache or Dalvik Options; you can skip these and direclty go for the "Factory Reset" option)
Note: Personally i prefer to clean both 1st, and only then perform the "Factory Reset". But that means you have to Flash ClockWork Mod Recovery in first place.
You system should now be like it came from Factory.
Also: I'm not entirely aware or "Triangle issue".
I mean, this device comes with Flash Counter. Therefore if the Triangle comes up, i really can't help you. At least not yet. As i've never had such problem.
If you happen to get this issue: Search for p3110 thread: "Triangle Away"
Let me know how it went for you.
Best Regards;
Richard

If u get that triangle problem just connect your device to pc and start flashing using odin like you did before.
I have the same device I had the same issue.
But remember this thing, if u get stuck in boot loop after flashing firmware using odin just try going to the recovery and then perform a factory reset. Then you are all set to go..

Greetings;
Thumbs Up m8!
The thread i mentioned about the "Triangle Away" (i just made a quick reading so far) felt like it was more difficult to solve than that.
Thanks for the Info. I was kinda worried on what to do when i get that "Triangle".
So, a Clean Flash and / or Factory Reset would Solve the Problem? Just That?

Help on how to install Lineage OS 14.1 on HTC ONE S

I would like to install Lineage OS 14.1 on my HTC ONE S, I believe this is the latest version available for this phone. I state that I am not an expert so I kindly need your help. Before installing Lineage OS I have to delete everything in the device, the fact is that this phone has no microsd so if I do a wipe advance and select internal storage it deletes everything including the lineage OS ROM file that I transferred … What should we do then? Also because I noticed that the phone when it is in TWRP is not seen by the PC so I cannot transfer the ROM file again and if I also delete the internal storage I cannot start the phone and I cannot even put the new ROM file ... I ask you how proceed in this case .. Thanks.
Update on the situation, practically I had to install windows 7 in dual boot as with windows 10 it was impossible, so to solve and be able to install an updated version of TWRP and do all the procedure that I am writing to you below, unfortunately I was able to install lineage os 14.1 but the apps don't work well .. Practically the first app I tried is Aurora store which however does not load well and as soon as I write an app to look for it crashes, I also tried aptoide and I see that it also works badly, it does not crash like the aurora store, but it does not load all the graphics of the app icons and then if I try to install it gives me an error to access the internal memory even though I gave it permission, in short, there seems to be some general problem .. Here is what I did before installing Lineage OS, I practically had an old version of TWRP 2.6 and I updated to 3.6 after which I did an advance wipe (Davilk / Art Cache, Cache, Data, Internal Storage and system) and this appeared to me that found in the first screen attached, where it says in yellow, "stock theme version does not match TWRP version" in practice from what I understand it says that the wipe was done with a different version of TWRP than when you are installed the ROM, did I understand correctly? Is this a problem? So I only made a wipe advance of what I wrote above, did I also have to do a format data or is it already included in what I did? After that I transferred the ROM lineage OS 14.1 (ville) on the internal memory and I made the flash. When the phone starts up, the red writing appears at the bottom. Is it normal that it appears even if I do not have root? Because before I had root I had it and now that I have put lineage but without root I see it anyway .. I do not know if it is normal ... what do you advise me to do to solve the problem of apps that work badly? I haven't tried other apps but I think these 2 are already enough to understand that there is a problem. Thanks a lot to those who want to help me.
u need hboot 2.16 for lineage os 14.1
