Wow, so we help HTC get to the place they are today (and don't underestimate our contribution) and this is the thanks.
Glad I'm getting a Dell in 2 months.

for some reason i feel the opposite towards this.
I am glad that they put a hardware chip that can bring the phone back to factory default settings. They probably did this because so many people had bricked their phones with no real way to get them back up and running so they had to send them in.... This way it should eliminate that whole process....
why this is good?
It will be cracked, and will give modders room to store custom roms or clockwork recovery on this... or.....
A MOD CHIP!!!! imagine a small mod chip that could enable or disable the chip. You muck up your phone, hit the switch... go back to factory defaults.
Reminds me of the old Playstations where I had to go get them chipped to be modded.
First off it was a pretty good read. Personally I would take this as yet another reason to keep up the awesome work done by the fine programmers here on XDA! Give them something else to "access & modify".
All in all, I never got the feeling of "eff off". But then again, that was just me.
What a whiner. Every day I'm more and more disgusted by some of the people on here. What have you personally done to help HTC aside from maybe buy a phone of theirs? What have they done for you? Oh, they gave you a miracle of modern technology. The ability to have a phone in your pocket which is amazing by itself, forget the fact that it can look up maps, browse the internet, play music and videos, etc.
What about people who don't even have phones?

Let me also ask you this: Is the ability to root a phone a feature that is advertised or standard on any devices? Are phone manufactures supposed to be supporting this?

Pretty much anyone thats posted on here has helped in one way or another, by answering peoples technical queries etc.
Your right, I don't own the phone and I certainly intend NOT to buy one now. I was going to be tempted as I prefer open phones rather than locked down ... but not now. If I'm going to be locked down I may as well get a good one. If your on these boards then you must know that HTC "stock" roms are usualy rubbish. Buy this at your peril.

Would you be happy if you bought a car and told you you went allowed to mod it or accessorise it? What someone does with their own device is none of anyone elses business INCLUDING the manufacturer and provider. If I buy a sponge cake I should be able to add whatever decorations and icing I want, If I buy a PC I should be able to install whatever OS and programs I want. Is that so hard to understand?

hard to understand? not at all.
also, not true. you can't legally install apple OS on non-apple hardware. you can't legally alter an iphone. you can't legally mod your car with NOS or any number of other things.
there are still laws, and company policy to take into consideration. your argument is furthered by the fact that android is open source - but what that REALLY means is that Android can be thrown on any manufacturers phone with no limitations - NOT that any phone that has android HAS no limitations.
I WISH the world allowed us to do whatever we wanted without ourselves and our possessions, but that is simply not the case.

Actually you can. You may not be allowed to take it on public roads, but you can do whatever you want with your car on private property as long as it dosent cause injury or damage to others property or other mischief.

At the moment You CAN do whatever you want with YOUR posessions as long as it does not cause harm or injury to other persons or property. There is no excuse for treating these devices differently. If you feel that flashing is illegal, I would have to ask what you are doing on XDA?

OK -
so first, where did I say I was never interested in this phone? If you care to take a look at my posting history you will see I'm desperate for a phone with a keyboard. (ROM issue aside) I did take a look at this phone but the screen is just a little too small for me and I just don't personaly like Android. If this is your ONLY argument, then you know you really have no argument - move along please, nothing to see here.
Second, you seem to be missing the grand picture. You see all those subforums for each phone right? Pay particular attention to the "ROMs" subforums for EACH phone.... delete them. IF I understand this correctly, none of the new phones (assuming they all employ this) will have cooked ROMs. Why do you think most of us are here? Thats right, because HTC ROMs out of the box are crap... cooked ROMs have certainly saved my use of HTC phones and to be honest, are one of the priamary reasons I would buy a HTC phone (and have!).
Third, if you had any idea what I was talking about you would know that this is not so much about the "phone" itself but the very fact that cooked ROMs will no longer be possible. If it was about the phone, I would have posted it in the G2 section.
So in summary, (and this might be hard for you) please, try to focus on the new "feature" of the phone rather than the phone itself. Also, try to stop assuming facts like I was never going to buy this phone and really, if this is the best discussion point you can bring, please use the "unsubscribe" option - do us all a favour.

I don't "feel" it is illegal. I don't believe it is wrong - but they have the legal right to tell me it is. that doesn't mean i won't do it anyway - I just don't lie to myself and say it is allowed... even if I believe that it should be.
there's a difference between recognizing the law and following it. I'm not saying I don't agree, that it sucks that they will lock out ROMs. BUT - I've got my Evo and it will last me for years, so i really don't care.
it's called reality. I'm not arguing that your opinion is wrong - i'm highlighting that it is just your opinion, and in this world they don't mean much.
tell you what though - you go ahead and organize the rally and once you get more than 1,000 people signed up i'll join.

Hi Mr Anon,
I must have missed the bit where I swore....? I remember putting a few **'s in... oh wait, I wasn't swearing there, just pointing out that I used **'s.... er.... um.... oh dear. They are used much like Beeps on tv....

Well I had the misfortune of getting all of my stuff stolen by some crooked F****r
This happen to include my Infuse, nice and shiny
I am really... really ticked... so I was curious
Is there such a thing as a program or condition that one could put into their phone where a security test would be frequently asked (something that isn't annoying but catches unauthorized users) to verify the authorized user ie owner of the device?
Also the program would have to be have some leniency as I don't want it to brick itself when I ask somebody to check my messages of course I would tell them the code or trick whatever it may be.
I need something that when the phone is in jeopardy, it will destroy the device as well as all of the data that has accumulated on this device...
I just hate... absolutely hate with the blackest black like a black hole of hatred, when I have this feeling of "some bastard out there is freely running through my device" and I can't do **** about it.
Which happens to have past data on it, even if my SIM is terminated and my phone is cut off... there is still the numbers, photos, messages and such
Man I tell you, these lowlife scums... really? I was in a college cafeteria, I have my coat sitting there in front of everyone, I was sitting alone, I get up to get some fruit, when I come back, the coat is gone.
Yeah I left it unattended but at the same time you have to consider the fact that maybe these humans have something called morals in their little brains.
It's like... WTF
Plus the University Police's cameras suck... you would think that their capability of funding a $60 million dollar building, that perhaps they could install cameras which could do more than just differentiate whether a human is a girl or a guy.
Anyways... aside from all this bull
What can you guys think of... is there something like this?
I may just make it myself if something like this isn't already made, I'm so pissed
I just wanted to kill whoever this person was (not really as I could never do that) but man I was about ready to pick up this desk and hurl it at the window...

SeekDroid is my phone's best friend. You can locate, lock, force an alarm, and wipe the phone from a computer. You can also see the phone number of the sim, along with a list of the last 10 placed calls. On top of all this, you can also force the app to hide on the phone so that nobody can uninstall it. Insanely cheap for what it offers.

I'm sure there is a lock out there that will wipe data or whatever you want if you get the passcode wrong a certain amount of times. You should use a screen lock from now on though... quick and easy for everyday use. And when something happens like this at least you know the dickhead has a paperweight and can't get past the lockscreen. You can also password lock the sim card too. I'm sorry about your stolen device. :/

The main thing that concerns me (besides the fact that it's stolen) is the data still being on there, it's my privacy you know? I am entitled to it just like everyone else, as private as one can get here in the US anyways which I would say is pretty good... anyways

What about the condition that the phone would terminate itself when it detects that someone else is using the phone
Say it gives you three tries to enter the authorization code
The unbricking would be easy (due to the way the app is programmed) so that if I accidentally bricked it on myself by not entering the code right, it wouldn't be a hassle to restore it.

I am sooooooooooooooo sorry to hear that!. I use Android Lost on the market...IT IS FREE and it is the most awesome thing and dev is VERY responsive too. I recommend it to anyone!

I hated lock screens also. I'm constantly opening my phone out and to have to spend 3 seconds unlocking it gets annoying. I used to use WheresMyDroid (free on the Market) and its nice for finding the phone. By texting the phone (from any number) a special code, the phone will send gps latitude/longitude of the phones location and another special code will force the phone to play an alarm. It's not so great compared to SeekDroid, but it doesn't need data.
SeekDroid needs data, so if you send a bunch of commands, it won't be recognized until the phone establishes an online connection. So if the phone is off, then nothing can be done. But there's a high chance that they'll turn it on eventually. And there's an even higher chance that they'll try going online with it. From what I remember, it was $1 for the app. It was on Amazon's FAD a couple of times. Looks like the app is now $4.99 on the Market, but there is a lite version that you can try out. I think it's a steal even at $4.99.
get an app called seek droid
only cost a buck and works great
log into their webiste and you can wipe your internal and external memory cards, make an alarm go off even of phone is on silent (this lost phone) and other stuff.
also lets you set a password remotely. pretty awesome

Yeah SeekDroid is the way to go. it was free a while back on the amazon app store.
Where is my droid pro also gives you the location off the device. but SeekDroid offers more.

Last few releases of SeekDroid have included SMS, in-case the device has no data connection. Its not very well advertised right now, but some documentation can be found here: http://help.seekdroid.com/kb/features/sms-how-to-and-help

Oh dammmmmmmmmn, SeekDroid now has the ability to wipe the phone through a text message? That's so awesome. Will the phone show that a text conversation has initiated? The person could turn off the phone if they somehow saw that someone was trying to find it.

If you send a SMS to SeekDroid (with the correct SMS pin and all), we will block that message from going to the phones SMS app. This means it still stays hidden from a thief that they are being tracked.

All anyone has to do is turn it off, travel out of coverage range, or simply take out or replace the sim.

We get success stories of people recovering their devices all the time. Also, as long as the device has a network OR data connection it can be tracked. SeekDroid will still track the device if the SIM is replaced.

Lolwut? I can gurantee that 99% of phone thieves will at least connect it to a network of some sort. And that's when SeekDroid will strike. I'd take SeekDroid over any app out there on the market. It's simply the best at what it does and then some.

at least this gives you a chance as long as your proactive and get on it fast.
you get the choice to locate it, or completely wipe everything off the phone, which is what i would do because i wouldn't want someone to be able to screw with my email account, facebook, contacts, and everything else on my phone.
not to mention being able to set off an alarm on my phone even when its on silent has helped me find it a few times when it decides to go deep sea couch diving
hmm Really? might make it worth looking into then. Because according to big brother (ATT) and apple. The only was those work is by sending a message/signal to the device. if the device is off or has no signal there is no way to for the service. if its a free download. I'll download it and then remove my sim and try pinging it

What identifier is it using? Because i thought once the sim card was swapped it became essentialy a different phone
Check out an app called plan b on the marketplace website. You can install it from there and it will show you where the phone is an you can wipe it clean. It's free.

The stuff with the locations "longitude and latitude" doesn't the GPS have to be turned on the phone?
What about if the sim card was removed?
I had looked on my AT&T records and the 'criminal' did go online for a bit until the phone was turned off
But damn... the thought of having my email accounts logged in, my messages, phone numbers, personal notes and voice recordings etc... pictures...
Oh man it's like someone has just stripped me naked and posted my image on somebody's bedroom wall (ha)
Anyhow it would have been nice to have any of these apps on my phone, though my phone sticks to me like a cancer

I just heard about this and can't believe how little we know we are being spied on. Is this installed on the sensation? If so are there any ROMS which remove it? Am I just digging up old news or what does everybody else know about this?

No this is not old news at all. This subject is still being looked into and things are coming to light about it more and more. Yes this is very much on the Sensation. Me personally I am glad someone started a thread on it as it is something I feel everyone should be concerned with.
If you want to learn more about it just go to the XDA Portal and type in a search for Carrier IQ, CIQ, or just IQ and you will see there has been several stories in the portal about it and the dev that is trying to bring all of this CIQ BS into the view of the masses.
Also I have not looked to see but I imagen that there is some custom ROMs for the Sensation that has the CIQ removed from it. I beleive any of the CM7 based ROMs do not have it and it may be more you will just have to read the first posts in the thread by the chef that cooked the ROM.

The ROM just cleans bloatware and other things in HTC Sense to help the ROM run smoother. All devices have this CIQ on them, it is not an app but several things that are hidden deep in the ROM and has to be cooked out of the ROM. ASOP ROMs do not have it. Go read this article by azrienoch on it. Make sure to click on the links in the article too then you will have a better understanding of what I mean. You will also see why it is such a big deal.

i just had the word with the guy who made the video and he told me that this only affect u.s.a people and this doesn't affect anyone living in eurpoe so if you live in uk, ireland and other part of eurpoe than you are fine.

So, because tracking software is being put on many devices we use every day, we should not worry about it?
Perhaps if consumers were made more aware of things like this, they could stem the tide of invasive technology.

CIQ is definitely a whole new species of logging software, put onto your device by your friendly network operator.
I dare to say that there is absolutely no comparable spying software case so far. If you´d have fully studied about the software this thread is mentioning, you most probably would not have written your statement.
A key logger which records *everything* you type without encryption? A key logger which reads your SMS/test message even before you read it? Come on. This kind of stuff is *definitely" not "in everything". It may be in all network operator subsidized mobile phones (not only Android, but also Nokia and Blackberry affected) in the USA - but definitely not here in Europe.
Here, we actually have laws against such software - especially if it´s distributed by large organizations like network operators, this could result in multi-billion dollar fines. People here in Europe are not wiser, but they tend to fight a bit more against "big brother" who might be "watching you".

i know what it does, and i still stand on my statement, as you and i type every letter on our keyboard it si being key logged to thats the sad truth of this an everything, no matter how you look or want to make aware to anyone its still exist and as technology grows so will this.. so either cry and complain bout it everytime some like this comes up or just say i know the fact im being watched but what else more can i do.. cause there is nothing you can do.. your normal house phones are being logged, not lot know this but there is KEY words that if you say in a conversation it picks up and sends a alert to the proper authorities..

Yes that is true what you said but most people already know that cops can get your records from a phone company with a search warrant depending on how long that company keeps those records.
This is deferent, a third party collecting all information of what you do on your phone without your consent or knowledge is wrong. This company is also not the government so what right do they have without your consent.
Yes on a console, a PC, and1st and 2nd party apps on your phone you give consent for them to use various monitoring techniques but you have a choice, here with carrier IQ you are not giving that choice it is there and you have to use a crowbar to get it out of your phone.
I'm no fanatic but I do believe in the constitution. It is your right to give away your privacy but it is not for someone else to take it away from you.

You keep saying it is nothing you can do about it, well you could not be more wrong. You can take and S-off your device, unlock your device, root, or what ever the proper method is for your particular device to be able to flash a custom recovery. Then simple download and flash any AOSP ROM. This will give you a device without CIQ.
Now you must not have read the official withdraw of the S&D letter to TrevE that IQ posted a link to on their website. Go yo the XDA Portal and have a look a the latest article by orb3000. Obviously the message has gotten to IQ and I would say more than likely the Carriers. Yeah some say that the power users are a small group but it is a group with great power. When the people that a large force in building enthusiasm for devices and OS's speak out against something that they do not like, people tend to listen. Therefore it has a large chance of affecting sales, new contract signings, and contract renewals.
This whole attitude of people not being able to do anything about something people consider wrong, is such a epic fail. I mean if no one never tries to bring change to something then yeah sure nothing will happen. And the powers that be gains that much more control. But luckily people are starting to get tired of never having change and are starting to do something about this messed up world of ours.
Last thing, if you think this is a simple logging system. Again you could be more wrong. This CIQ has full access to your device, as well as full rights. It can not be killed, forced close, or uninstall. I will not go into any further details, but this is far from what IQ and the carriers want you to think it is.

As far as the carriers are concerned, they probably think that no one knows that this stuff is even installed!
Its important to show our awareness of this situation, and complain about it.

Wow, at first i was reading this thread and had the same, "well whatever" attitude. But after just a couple of minutes googling and reading, this is really messed up. CarrierIQ has issued a cease and dismiss order against the guy in the video, along with threats to sue if he does not publicly apologize.
so this is just a general message to all android users. something everyone SHOULD know about but most (non-tech) smartphone users fall short and victim to... the reason im posting this is because the wifes phone has been acting wierd lately, by wierd i mean apps have been opening up by themselves, internet browsers opened to websites that she would never go to, wallpapers keep getting changed, phone randomly being turned off, all of this happening most of the time while shes at work. now just so we know her wasnt rooted till two days ago which i did to see if maybe there was just something wrong with the stock crap that she had. turns out this wasnt the case. so i decided to post this just to make people more aware and hopefully prevent this from happening to anyone else.
what you can do to prevent this invasion
first and foremost PUT A PASSWORD ON YOUR PHONE!!! even if you have nothing to hide this will help from major things like bank accounts and passwords from emails getting stolen!
make the password hard to guess by this i dont mean use your kids names or birthdays but something no one would ever guess and use a combination of numbers and letters and never use the same password twice!
change your password atleast once a week! this will help to keep potential hackers guessing and make it harder for them to figure it out and hey if they figure it out this week they may not next week.
try to stay off of unsecured wifi networks, most routers these days have a firewall built in and if the network is protected by a password this will make it that much harder for a hacker to get into your files!
make sure you have your bluetooth set up so that other devices can only see you if they are paired or just keep it turned off when its not being used! same goes for NFC, Smart Beam, Bump, things of that nature...
dont let browsers like firefox, google chrome, e.g. save password this will also help to prevent the hacker from getting access to your email's and bank accounts! also a good idea to make sure you sign out of apps when you close them instead of leaving them open.
i hope this helps anyone else who may have had or has a problem with this from it ever happening again!

Just don't install wonky apps and dont connect to public networks. As simple as that.
Does setting a password really block remote access to your phone? I thought it only blocked a user from operating the device. I think you have to set up full encryption to protect yourself from invasions. Also. Google offers 2 step verification from the play store, which makes your accounts more secure.
So how did someone get remote access to the device? Maybe if you told us the cause and how it happened it would help the rest of us to not get caught in that situation.
if this is happening mainly at work is it possible she's using there wifi and if she is how do you know a fellow employee is not hacking in to her phone.

no she has confermed that she doesnt use the wifi at work doesnt even have it in her connection list so no fellow employee is doing it even though I suspect this one guy that seems to sit up there all day just for the free wifi, even though wifi isnt the only way a hackwr can get into ur files its just easier.

Most of it is just common sense. Who leaves open connections unattended, anyway? Bloody hell, I turn 3G off when I'm not using it... (Mainly for battery life and the near border, but the fact stands.)
As for the passwords. Once a week is more than a bit paranoid, once every three months is a better aim.
And Don't use ridiculous sentimental passwords, such as your pets or family names and birth dates. A quick Facebook search and some logical thinking is all that's needed to figure out your password. You do not wish to know how many times I've had to do it for people who've forgotten theirs or when I needed access to a computer without the owner present. It's laughably easy, people are far too simple for their own good.
Another stupid thing I've seen people do: Leave their phone unattended in good faith or sheer negligence. Leaving your phone on your desk, or in your bag near your desk, when you go grab a new cup of tea, print something, speak with someone or visit the loo is just asking for someone else to mess with your phone. People can't be trusted. Nobody! Also, do not lend it to someone without supervision, Do Not Let It Out Of Your Sight!
I suspect that is also how your wife got her phone hacked; she probably left it in her bag or on her desk for a few minutes as she went to do something out of the line of sight.
I don't know if someone has stated this already but something that can also help out a lot and I know that a lot of people do it including myself on one or two occasions is staying legit. Just pay for the app because it took time to develope and the creator deserves the donation, not to mention the apk could contain malware!

I must admit I am one of rhose people that downloads the .apk but not to one up google play or the dev but simply cus google doesnt give u but 15 mins to get a refund and lets face it thats no where near enough time to test an app to see if its something that will suit ones needs, so I download the apk file to see if its something that I would wanna keep and if it is then I go back whrn I have the extra cash to buy said apps...

This is probably where your malware came from. I'd suggest doing a factory reset and stop downloading pirated apps. If you want a refund after the 15 minute trial period just email Google or the developer, they are usually pretty good at giving refunds.

I know it wasnt the downloading of apps as my wife is one of those non-techy people ive been talking about... it could have however been from her dl'ing music from unreliable websites.

Sadly if you were hacked you would need to do alittle more then just wipe and reflash, u would need to delete all email accounts tied to said phone and apps used in the past + get a new number basicly start EVERYTHING new!

Talking about being hacked, I fell victim to this too a year ago and I was able to put a stop to it. But first I'll explain my ordeal. One night I started getting calls from friends very pissed off that I kept calling them at 1 and 2 in the morning and waking them up and hanging up the phone. I kept telling them I swear I never called you. This went on to the point I lost a few friends until I saw it happen right before me eyes. Bet I know what your thinking, Pocket dialing? NOPE. My phone was dialing on it's own while sitting on the table at night charging.
So here it is 1 AM in the morning and I notice the light on my LG Optimus's screen coming on. I walked over and took a look, and to my surprise!! The darn thing was opening up the dial pad, moving to callers on my list and calling each one. This freaked me out. I thought I had ghost in the house. haha.
I reported this to Virgin and yea right, not much help. They must of thought I was on drugs. I decided to research this and low and behold, others were having this same problem with all models of phones. So someone did something about this and written an App called, "Called Confirmed Code." Nice thing was every time my phone attempted to make a phone call on its own, a password box appears asking for the pin number. Wrong pin rejects the call and closes the dial-er.
So I installed in hopes to find out if this is a glitch in Froyo 2.2.1 or a hacker. It happened once again. Phone woke up on its own that night and I watched in horror as the password box came up and someone was attempting to guess the pin number. each time he failed, the dial-er closed. I knew now someone was in my phone.
Did more research and read that there are open ports used a remote OTA Virgin uses to update your software over the air was being exploited and allowing hackers to fool my phone into thinking I had updates and allowing software to install on the phone. I took my phone to my local police dept and have a detective look into it and sure enough, it was a piece of software that got into the phone through the OTA port. Another words, What I though was a legit security update was nothing more then a backdoor installed.
So, I made copies of the police reports and faxed everything to Virgin's headquarters and weeks later, said there is no proof such a thing can happen.
WHAT!! Weather or not this is possible guys, it happen to me and that's what pushed me to root and flash my phone. Never did update through the OTA again. That's o.k. because Virgin Mobile did away with OTA updates because why??? Exploits. They still wont admit it today. And it doesn't stop there. That's my story how I got hacked. Maybe your's is different.

hi, im new new and honestly I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing...I did tech support way way way back in the day for Apple but as far as mobile devices...I have learned a lot in the last couple months but ... well here is my dilemma. some person hacked into my home network and my and my preteen daughters phones I got completely new devices new service providers new sim cards gone through multiple phones, xfinity routers, and gmails and phone numbers and social media and every time I do not take anything from a previous phone or Google or social media account and weird things keep happening, like someone else is linked to my phone or cloned it or something and I keep digging and researching and I've noticed something fairly new...my exhusband with whom I've reconnected to try to work things out all the sudden has secret developer accounts and email addresses and I kept finding coding or embedding codes wrote on paper or in his phones clipboard. it appears my last couple of phones have had custom ROM installed on them. how do I fix my devices
Custom ROMs can't install themselves... it takes the phone, a PC and some time.
I know where my phone is 24/7... do you?
If true reflash to stock firmware.

Why would you be on his phone and how would you know about secret developer accounts (whatever they are)? Coding notes on paper and in his phone's clipboard? Custom roms that you don't know about?
I gotta tell you this doesn't seem like a real post. How can you know all that tech stuff but you don't know how to reset your phone and secure your network?
well as I said I'm brand new and don't know much at all thanks for your time to reply but no I don't always know I naively assumed with a passcode my phone would be safe and safe with those closest to me but i just don't know how to explain what's been going on and how I found my A51 magically stuck in Oden mode when I woke up one morning this is why I am here asking for help please have a little compassion for us mere peasants. I have also had thousands of dollars stolen from my card account and I feel its all related also my I phone did not have service yet I was waiting for payday to get it going and when I did go to activate it...majically it already had a passcode put on it. I just need to know what to look for and how to get my Samsung going again because when I did a factory reset and went to enter my code it was wrong then tried to use my google acct....bet you can't guess what happened next...my effing google password was wrong. I just can't afford to buy another phone and my girls phones have had the same things happen to theirs.
That's one hell of a run on sentence.
I don't bother trying to read poorly structured whatever it is.
Flash all phones to factory firmware Android 10 or higher.
Change all Google and Samsung if any passwords.
Flash latest update to router and reset password better yet don't use wifi.

I only know what I do because since all this crazyness started with my phone I started looking things up and reading. I know how to reset my phone but it wouldn't fully reset like I noticed it would say it was resetting and it would shut off and restart but nothing was really different. the only reason I know about his accounts is because one morning I woke up and strangely my email had been deleted from my Facebook and one of his emails added and made the primary and I tried to readd mine and delete his and my gmail password had been changed so I had to recover my google he had, excuse me, someone had also made his gmail the back up to my gmail! according to my calculations that gives whoever has access to his gmail, access to my gmail. and my facebook. right? and as far as me knowing what's on is phone well A. Its actually my phone an service he is using and B. when I found his email added on my phone I told him what I found on my phone and Facebook and i asked to see his phone. At first I didn't really know what i was looking at and as I read up on things I would be like ohhhh that's what that was. I found my social and acct numbers on his phone its just all so....so crazy I wouldn't in a million years have thought he would do anything like this. I would just love to be able to eliminate the possibility its he who did any of this I want to be wrong about this I just don't know how to figure any of it out at one point the first phone affected by this I had gone into settings to get my phone info because I was adding a service plan to my phone and the IMIE number and some other information were not correct I was on the phone with a Rep so I reported it to her I don't know what she did with the info. I would google something click on it and it was like I was going in circles just redirected and redirected, I wild also notice my screen would like do this really quick like flash, or like the edges would flash or something. and right now when I try to do the lake recover and set up it looks like there is another screen or homepage underneath super faint but I can see it around the edges. I just want to know how to secure everything so this doesn't keep happening it feels so violating. I don't do any banking period anymore on my phone and I don't put my social security on any online forms anymore. I would like to be able to use my Samsung again i had only used it a couple weeks before got my iPhone which I got only because I was told how great their security was. within 24 hours it was showing me logged in my Apple acct in other countries and states
I've gone to more malware infested sites then I can count, have plenty of mortal enemies, some them hackers.
But in over 10 years of using stock Samsung Androids many times with outdated firmware never had to do a factory reset let alone a reflash due to malware.
It's reasonable secure unless you do something stupid.
Perhaps the enemy is within... I gave you a viable solution for any firmware or security breach.
Unfortunately you can't change who you are and you can only trust someone to be themselves.
Perhaps a flip phone with no internet connection would get it for you.

Can I show you screenshots of stuff I just found on this phone and you can tell me what I'm looking at and if its normal and the only reason I found out this phone is running a custom ROM is because I clicked on Google help for something the other day and it said "Note: You're using a custom Android version. If these steps don't work for you, check with your device manufacturer" I've never had issues like this before and I just don't know what to do.
The screenshots I took are from settings and in legal information and Third party licenses. I just want someone with way more skills and knowledge than I to see what I'm seeing and tell me "yeah someones jacked with your phone" or "nope this stuff is all normal looks good you're just paranoid"

I truly appreciate you and your time to answer my post. How do I do what you have told me? Should I attempt it myself or should I take the phones to someone to have this done?
For this issue, find cops.
Don't factory reset, don't connect to internet, don't use WIFI, don't use bluetooth, don't use microSD cards, don't put a SIM card, take the cards out of the phones. Disconnect everything that will make the phone has internet. Charging battery is allowed. Turn off your home WIFI router, shutoff all electricity of your house.
The phone itself is the proof of illegal acts if what you said someone hijack your belongings are true.
Just in case if you really follow what I wrote.
If you can't live without electricity, turn electricity back on.

Actually I did go to the police a while back because I was concerned for my girls safety because we were having screen shots of our screens pop up on our devices...they're girls and young and I just wanted to make sure they're protected and there was documentation. I'm surmising by your response I must be sounding crazy and dumb, I don't know I just know what we have had happen and I can't explain it and we've never had issues like this ever before. Maybe it's just best if I ignore what's going on and what we see and continue using our phones like nothing ever happened and just don't save any passwords or enter any sensitive info. I do thank you for taking your time to respond to my post and assisting me.

The screen shots that showed up on our phones were not taken by us or our phones I got a barrage of those for a few days. That doesn't really happen much anymore, now I get what feels like tons of prompts to verify or sign in.

Buy new phones from local official shops for better privacy. Change system. If you were using Android now, change to Apple. Security between OS is different and hard to replicate hijack or something.
Online account is a bit complicated, but can still be dealt with cops.
Write your importance in priority order, so you know how to judge what you can give up and what you cannot. Also you will be able to plan according to importance.
For example:
Girls' safety > your safety > Privacy > Phone > Money
(Write it yourself, I'm not you.)
When people are in extreme emotions/state, one can forget basic things. Don't look at the past peaceful days, you can't change the past.
Even wondering why you trust someone online rather than cops. The person can be among us, and can have been reading till now.

A- I couldn't give a single F if he is among us reading...its a good possibility even.
2- The cops in this town are the last people to be trusted... Unless of course your a fellow officer who murdered your wife...then your good. I'll take my chances with you guys.
C- I recovered one of my phones today got it all fresh and clean. I properly secured it and now am more aware and have acquired a little more knowledge. You are absolutely correct about prioritizing, so simple and basic yet easy to jumble up when you feel frantic or threatened. Just had to slow down take a breath pull myself together and now I feel pretty confidant my girls are safe, that is my number one priority. I feel I come across as simpleton to some of you. yes I may lack the knowledge and technical skills you and many others here have, I do however have perseverance and absolute willingness to learn and ability to be taught so in my eyes I'm alright man. I accomplished some goals today and with thanks to you guys here even though some of you come across as condescending, I still like yous anyway.
Children lack the social and technical wherewithal to use these devices safely.
That's why they are called children... they have a lot to learn.
It's your job to control the heat and keep it survivable even if it means no unsupervised internet usage.
I know a lot of good LEOs, many more good than bad. To bunch them together is a huge lapse in judgement with far reaching consequences.
It will not serve you well... learn to walk in the other man's shoes.

I hear what your saying and am listening as well. Man I got my answers this morning.. Not the answer I was hoping for. Sadly I wish I wasn't in my own shoes right now. Once again i thank you all.
