Modified LG E400-boot from external sd? - General Questions and Answers

Hi guys! Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place, I'm new here. So basically, i have an LG E400 (i know its a really old phone, i don't use it as my regular phone) which has been modified so it can not be used in the regular way (i wont go into the reasons its been modified, its complicated). The USB port has been modified so it cant be connected with a pc (it will only charge), the cell and wifi chips have been removed so it cant be connected to the internet and the system modified so i cant install new apps (if i try to install apks it says the application google play store (process com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly. Also, its somehow made to boot and run off external sd, if i take out the sd the screen goes blank, if i try to switch on without sd it just shows the LG logo. Recently i installed linux file systems for windows by paragon software on my pc and using it when i put the sd card in my pc it shows 2 hidden linux volume partitions or whatever its called. in there is the entire system or root or whatever it is (sorry, if this doesn't make sense, I'm new to all this stuff).
So basically i have 3 questions.
1. How was it made to run from sd card?
2. Can install apps by putting the apks in the root or sd or whatever it is? i googled about it and it seems to be possible but i would have to change permissions, is it possible to do that on pc?
3. Can i fix the google verification thing so i can install apks in the regular way?
thanks in advance!

AFAIK it's not possible to boot Android from an external SD-card this because when the phone powers up the Boot ROM code starts executing from a predefined location on NAND which is hardwired in ROM, and you can't change that.

Are you saying that my phone is impossible? what about a custom rom? i don't know if it has a custom rom but if i go into about phone, it shows build number palmoid 2 which as far as i know doesn't exist so could it be a custom rom made the company that modified the phone?

[Q] Moving apps to sd without app2sd

Ive been trying to mod the stock rom on my MyTouch 3g Slide so that it automatically uses a folder on the sd card as the data folder for apps using the inherent "everything is a file" rule from linux.
I do have SU permissions on the ADB.
My theory is this:
If I replace the folder "data" with a link to the folder on the sd card, then I should be able to have as many apps as I want, I would just need to get a bigger sd card eventually.
Another benefit of this is it will actually be superior to App2SD as ALL apps will not only be able to be on the SD but they will all work properly (so pandora will let me still use the widget)
I am however not that well versed in linux or in modding a folder to be a link and just look like a folder. Anyone want to help?
I also know that, at first, I would need to ADB pull all the files from the required folders and push them back onto the SD folder. I did it once now if only I could get the link working.
edit: I have noticed that certain changes to the filesystem in the stock rom rewrite themselves on reboot. (ex: I tried to change the permissions on the built in shell to root but when I rebooted it changed them back, worked until then though)
edit: another thing I could do is have multiple sd cards with entirely different roms on them and just switch SDs when I want to change roms. But that's a project for another time.
Xperia X10 is still running 1.6.
Apps2SD is a 2.1 minimum so, somebody started to work on exactly what you want.

[Q] Please help urgently LG Optimus 3D and Atrix problem

Hi
I had an Atrix and used it for three months, then the internal memory (SD area) seemed to corrupt - I could not format or unmount it or access anything in there apart from copying files with Astro or ES File Manager. Even a full factory restore of the phone did not delete any of the data on the Internal SD (or Media Area). Ended up getting rid and getting an Optimus 3D.
Now, had the 3D for a month and can't believe I am having a similar problem. Android market apps kept disappearing on boot up (this is what started before), and randomly they would be there or not on each reboot. I moved some files using file manager from the internal to the external SD to create some room and my phone got stuck in a boot loop so I had to remove the battery and external SD for it to work again. Then, all of the apps on the internal sd instead of their icons had the android sd symbol and when clicked on say 'application not installed on phone'. When I look at the Sd and memory storage, the internal SD is nearly full still! I can't access it, can't factory reset it, or delete data. Surely there is some way of sorting this without yet another handset - it's gotta be a fixable glitch? In desperation rooted phone with Superoneclick which was really easy but doesn't help me because I can download from the market, etc, but can't actually install - I am stuck in the install 'candybar' for ages and it just won't work. I thought of manually deleting all of this stuff but I can't get a file manager onto the phone and the factory reset wiped out ES and Astro, I can't get them back on in the usual way.
Because I have root access now, I presume I may be able to use ADB through my PC to sort this problem - but of course would need exact commands etc, on how to do this through the command prompt? I am not an expert but think I just need to get rid of the carp on my internal SD which must have a corrupt file somewhere. Please help urgently, it is frustrating beyond belief and I almost feel like going back to Apple!!!!

This is a GUI for ADB a graphical front end. You can use it to push/pull some apk to your phone if ya need to. Hope this helps in some way.

[Q] Phone broken or still hope?

Hello everydody, I am experiencing some difficulties with my Samsung, model GT-I9003-phone which "dropped off a lorry" somewhere next to my relatives somewhere in Asia. When I goth the device, it was in a non-working condition, except a boot-loop and the download-mode. Back then, I had the package of the phone where the exact version ( I don't know if this is what is called "Baseband" or at least is called baseband at my wife's GT-I5003) was specified. So, back then, I was able to find the exact ROM for the device. Unfortunately, the box with the version number now is - somewhere.
After flashing a stock-rom, I managed to enter recovery-mode where I read something about the internal memory being corrupt. As far as I can recall, I then mounted the external SD-Card and somehow managed to reboot the system back to almost normal operation. Even reboots appeared to work normal, besides the fact I had no memory access, neither to internal nor to external sd. In addition, GPS malfunctioned, too.
Unfortunately, even this state didn't last for long time. After several weeks of now-and-then-use, the system just broke down again into a boot-loop. After some time of flashing a variety of stock roms, I managed to flash clockworkmod recovery which works perfectly well. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to root the phone before it "collapsed" again. Besides the possibility, I'd guess this could be a resaon for CWM being unable to flash a custom rom? Otherwise, I'd just test my way through the varieties of versions .
Basically, I do have two questions: 1. is there a possibility to find out if internal memory has failed - and if yes: How?
2. Is it possible to install any version of CM on that phone in the condition it is in?
Thanks a lot in advance for any answers
Hello everybody, I finally found the box . It reads GT-I9003MKDTHL. Is my assumption right that there are no such things as basebands in the GT-I9003 any more and I should be able to flash pretty much any firmware? Furthermore, today I tried to format what is specified as "sd-card ext" in CWM fir GT-I9003 and it gives me an error-message. When I flash "sd-card", my external sd-card gets formatted. So, I'd presume the internal sd is just fried. I read about a workaround for GT-I 9000, where someone installed Androd on a partitioned external SD. Is there somebody who knows someboy having heard about somthing similar working with the GT-I9903?
One step forward...
Hello everybody, I finally managed to get some light into my issues as I once again figured out how to get a software installed and running . It's this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2329200
Thanks a lot to the guy who just posted it somewhere where id could do good...
By the way, I figured out that this software actually includes the Baseband.
As in this version, the original recovery system is running and giving me an error message when I start it without external SD-card, I am now quite sure that the internal memory has just failed as this error message was specified in another posting of someone who had a similar issue with a GT-I9000.
The biiiig "Outch" is, that I am unable to install any CWM Recovery System with that Baseband..This results in me not being able to upgrade the software to ICS, where - as far as I read some troubleshoot-information - will enable me to mount an additional partition on my SD-Card as Data-Partition which isn't possible yet (i.e.: I can't access my SD for storing data or whatever - it's just specified as "not there").
I tried to install the XXKPE-Baseband to be able to go for KPQ which would enable me to install CWM Recovery. I also installed Bagarias CWM-normalboot-image via Heimdall - but I was unable both to boot the OS and to find any trace of a zip-file on the SD-card.
Edit: I managed to install the right CWM - it's mentioned in the post where I've got the firmware from... now, I only have to figure out how to deal with the fact that "officially" there is no SD-card inserted - or, better, that this SD-card is now flagged as "internal SD" - and how that machine can find the zip-file on it
Thanks for every bit of help with that issue
Try Aroma File Manager with Terminal
For SDCard issue you could probably switch them in vold.fstab in /system/etc
Good Luck !!!

[Q] Can't get internal and external memory to remain linked, any help?

Ok, so I downloaded root external to internal sd and entered the correct values then I hit swap. My phone then registers the correct memory values(most off the time) however once I restart the phone, all of my gameloft downloads need to download more files and the space is not available. How can I permanently fix this problem as my phone only comes stock with a gig and a half. I have a Samsung galaxy exhibit 4g from metro pcs. (Sgh-t599n) Also, second question, how do I install clockwork mod recovery if e signature certification keeps failing? I rooted with cydia prior to learning about this site and tried to flash a new Rom first and bottom line, did things wrong from the start, now can't toggle signature check off and on to flash anything.any fixes available?
