Question (Please read before posting) What should I do with my new Poco X3 Pro? - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

Hi there, first time poster here.
I recently got myself the POCO X3 Pro 8GB, and it has been recommended to me by a friend to undergo some kind of bootloader or flashing to improve the device.
I know there's stickied guides and such, but there's so much to go through at once that I get a sensory overload and get overwhelmed and I just do not know what to do, worried about breaking or ruining my phone.
As such, I'm making a specific personal thread to ask for advice and to answer questions in a place that I can read without getting overloaded and overwhelmed.
Here are my questions:
What should I do with this phone? It seems the first thing to do is to get that Xiaomi unlocker, but beyond that i'm not sure of the best options.
What benefits would I get from unlocking and flashing my Poco X3 Pro? Are there any downsides, like apps I can't use, etc?
What are the risks involved in going through this?
I know the bootloader/unlocker requires a complete wipe - is there a way of backing up files (save data from games etc) that people can recommend so I can restore them once my phone has been wiped?
My OS version from my phone is pictured underneath. If anyone would prefer to PM about this one on one, please do so. I really appreciate any help I can get.
Thank you very much

Easy answer : find that friend to do it for you since the person recommended that.
Tell the friend to explain to you why recommended, and answer your questions.
If it's too much and complicated to you, then don't do it. It's your phone, do as you wish.

Since you don't seem to have any experience with custom firmware, I would recommend you to test the Poco with the original MIUI for a while and see if you miss any features. I myself have had various experiences with various custom roms for years and to be honest, most of them are overrated. An official Lineage OS may still make sense for reasons of personal data protection, but if you don't care whether Google and Xiaomi collect your data, then a custom rom often makes little sense.
If anything, I would recommend removing unnecessary bloatware from your phone. This is straightforward and is well explained in the following link.

Does this still require the miUnlock?
Also, oes this still require me to wipe my phone? I'm just worried about my Google Authenticator details. Also, will any apps not work after this? Specifically stuff affected by SafetyNet.

You don't have to wipe or unlock anything for debloating and the safety net status remains unaffected. All programs that are removed with the help of Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools can also be reinstalled with the same tool. This is almost completely foolproof.

Ah, excellent. I'll give it a shot. I'm just wondering if it's worth just doing it all now, so I don't end up with more data that needs backing up in the future. Does this remove the spyware too, or would I really need to go into unlocking/rooting my phone?

At least you can remove some "spyware". I can't tell you what might be hidden deep in the system. In addition, you can install a firewall (e.g. Netguard works without root), so that you can then decide which process is allowed to send data.

Interesting. I used the ADB to remove the MSA, the analytics and Quick apps. is there anything else I should uninstall?

I can't tell you that in general, because I don't know what you consider useful and what doesn't. For my part, I uninstalled pretty much everything except the Gallery, Themes and selected Google stuff.
You could search for MIUI debloat lists via a search engine, as the functions of individual components are occasionally described.

oh, I've tried the vanced manager, but the miui optimisation stops it from working. i managed to get some older apks to install but not the nearest version

I'm afraid I can't really help you because I generally don't use a YouTube app. I only watch YouTube content via a browser.

For Vanced manager and Youtube vanced to be installed/update you need to disable MIUI optimization.
1. Enable developer options
2. go to the bottom of the developer options
3. Tap on several times on "Reset to default values"
4. Enable/Disable MIUI optimization
After install or update you can turn on back the MIUI optimization and reboot the phone(to have rounded apps).

Hey, I have another question: if I choose to use the miUnlock, do I have to reinstall all of the bloatware I removed?

[Guide]A few simple steps to avoid installing Malware

Everybody likes to have the latest and greatest on their devices and that typically means that you are downloading and installing a lot of extra goodies on your device. It is becoming increasingly common to have unwanted things delivered with whatever you are trying to install on your device. To be absolutely safe, you shouldn’t download anything that doesn’t come directly from your OEM and even that is no guarantee that extra “unwanted” stuff won’t end up on your device. These extra things may compromise your privacy or they may just bomb you with adware, either way here is a short guide to help you from installing malware.
1. Stay away from warez.
If someone is going to crack an app to save a little money, they probably can’t be trusted not to add a little bit of extra code designed to line their own pockets. The more warez on the website the more you should be worried about your download. The Google and Amazon app stores really care about their reputations, so they typically go to some effort to remove malware as soon as they find it. Same goes for xda, but you should still expect some malware to sneak through, but the problem is really much worse with the alternative App stores that don't care so much for their user base.
2. Pay close attention to what is being downloaded.
Check the name and the extension of what you downloaded, if they are wrong, then it is probably something you don’t want to install.
An increasing number of file hosts are trying to “trick” users into downloading windows or Mac Installers that typically deliver adware to your computer. If it ends in .exe or .dmg but you are expecting .apk or .zip then you should probably stay away. Please note that All-In-One tool kits and some other things may actually come with .exe, so just use your common sense. Similarly, many malware engines won’t flag adware because it is something that you have “chosen” to install, so it is probably a good idea to be careful with anything that even 1 or 2 malware engines flag as adware. Many file hosts have started offering more than one download link. A real link, for what you want, and then some fake links that take you to ads or provide you with unwanted malware rather than the file you want. Using an adblocker will help reduce these fake links, but again, just make sure what you end up downloading is what you really want. Asking to install a download accelerator, download manager, or pretty much any kind of update to get the download to work are common ploys to get you to download and install something you really don't want.Example of fake download links:

3. Run a malware check on the download before installing it.
I prefer https://www.virustotal.com & http://sanddroid.xjtu.edu.cn/#home but there are plenty of other tools (see http://wiki.secmobi.com/tools:android_dynamic_analysis for a more thorough listing).
Virustotal uses a number of anti-malware engines to scan your file for known malware. The more tools that return a positive match the more likely it is that you have downloaded malware. If you downloaded something that can root your phone then in all likelihood some scanners will flag it as malware and those can be considered as false positives. Please be aware that just because an app is rated as clean, doesn’t mean that it really isn’t malware. Maybe it hasn’t been identified as malware yet or maybe the sandbox didn’t activate the malware parts of the app.

false positives from Rooting App:
https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...b456d9095cae1deb07e72072d6dcc057d43/analysis/
Sanddroid is just for checking apps and will run them in a sandbox and then tell you about the behavior of your app.

bad: http://sanddroid.xjtu.edu.cn/report?apk_md5=7CA1039040C67F62290B2F3F180AED8C
Please feel free to post any tips or tricks you have for avoiding malware and I will see about adding them here.
Please do not ask if something contains malware or not, if you are in doubt then don’t use install it, if it is something you found on xda and are worried about it, then report the post and a moderator will investigate it. The last thing we want is for people to accidentally green light something that is bad, it is your device so in the end it can only be up to you.

just deny the download request *facepalm*
To avoid the double extension, for example .apk.exe or.img.exe or .exe.exe
To verify the size of the unload before executing, for example waits 5mb and the size is of 247Kb to suppress directly and to look for another file, this what it will do yes is touched on him it will be a launcher impossible to stop executes and installing programs desinstalables needing of a complete formatting, I go five days to recover the computer for one of these for not realizing this and executing the file.
If the size of the download does not correspond with the size of the file very probably partner is going to go malware and it is enough to pulsate in order that it has not gone back
My English is terrible for what I have to help with an automatic translator

Yes and no. Adblockers typically don't scan downloads for adware or malware, but if a link is flagged by adblocker as containing adware then that link will be blocked. It isn't perfect, but in the end you are much less likely to download adware/malware if you are using an adblocker.
I've never been infected either, a little bit of common sense and know how goes a long way.
I think it all comes down to how long someone and 'lived' on the internet to understand how it and everyone works, regardless..
Thanks @justmpm. This kind of information is vital and definitely deserves the Sticky. Well done.
I hate when I click on a link to download something and it ends up at that stupid devhost site. There is a few others that try to pull that crap too, but yea it pisses me off because I dont usually click on something unless its really something Im after. Good post OP
Well as long as you don't install weird .apk files, Android should run fine and virus-free.

Yup ,

A good adblocker to use if you're rooted is Adaway. If you're not rooted you can use adblock plus (the app, or the Firefox add-on). One disadvantage to the adblock plus app is that it uses quite much ram (~100mb). Adaway modifies the hosts file, so it doesn't use any resources.

SamCleaner is a python+gtk application that helps manage packages in android devices via `adb`. This is achieved via two methods, one is by listing all available packages on the device with the possibility of enabling/disabling individual packages by name, while the second method is by using a blacklist file (in JSON format) thus allowing the user to automate the procedure.
https://gitlab.com/samcleaner/samcleaner
The application is in gitlab, so if you search for SamCleaner, you'll find the full source code there and you may download it and test it. Its written in python, fairly easy code to read.
Thank you.
I'd like to add that I've created a fake adb command that pretends to be connected to a real phone, to help with testing and development, if anyone is interested let me know and I'll post the fake adb as well.
thank you.
Added a search feature, which allows you to use regular expressions or just plain text for searching among the packages (ID or name).
Updated the package blacklist and added new package descriptions.
Hello (hopefully not off-topic)
I would like to know which package in Android (oreo) I have to disable to make sure that nothing is synchronized to the Google-Account:
Regards
Well, when you say "nothing is synchronized", do you mean every single piece of data that google syncs? Because that is pretty broad, considering that google collects data per-second, for what you are looking at, what you are touching on the screen, the location of the device, surrounding data about NFS/Bluetooth/WiFi devices around you, so on and so forth.
The only real solution, is to actually remove all packages that start with "com.google.", especially the framework and services packages com.google.android.gms & com.google.android.gsf
It is not easy to block all out going data, samsung packages also monitor your activities and report back to samsung servers. The most effective solution is to gain root and just break the device's ability to connect to anything, just make it a simple phone for calls, sms and photos.
My blacklist tries to do just that, remove all google from the phone but that will disable GPS positioning, along with some other features.
I am not sure if I answered your question, if you want be a bit more specific in what you want to achieve.

Thank you very much for you detailed answer.
In a first step it would be helpful to stop synchronizing the "calendar" and the "contacts" .
Is there a apk that is doing that job?
Regards
I have no idea which specific packages do the actual sync, but just by reading the names, these two look interesting:
com.google.android.syncadapters.calendar
com.google.android.syncadapters.contacts
You could find out manually, by removing one package after another until you break the sync connection.
Still, the two packages that do the most communication with google are the ones I mention above (com.google.android.gms & com.google.android.gsf) so I would disable them as well. You may want to disable them only, if you remove them completely then google Play store will not work anymore.

WARNING
======
Samsung S20/Plus/Ultra devices that update to Android 11 will die and cause a boot loop if the fused location spyware apk is not installed.
Up to and including Android 10, it caused no issue to uninstall the fused location apk. The package name is com.android.location.fused
Sneaky...
Also be aware that Samsung now forcibly installs a location aware app that displays adverts when you are near an affiliated store (like a samsung store).
It's pretty surprising this thread didn't get more replies, I just downloaded it. The UI is clean, well organized, and overall it seems to be pretty high quality. I haven't given it a shot yet, but a little later this afternoon I'm going to test it on a freshly flashed stock device. I appreciate your obvious hard work on this and I think it deserves some more credit, maybe it's just the category it was placed in or something. I'm sure in a spot with enough Samsung traffic passing through this would get this program the use that it deserves.
It's interesting what you say about Android 11 and fused location, I manually uninstalled it using a DPM workaround on Android 10 with no issues to anything, it is just a privacy perk; now if only this tool could get rid of the DPM for me without having to factory reset or do a clean flash lol.
The only feature that I'd say is actually worth it on 11 is the Sound Assistant's option to fix latency issues for tws earbuds, but I'm sure somebody will figure out how to make it backwards compatible with 10. My guess is those 3 OS upgrades they promised starting at the S10, have a little bit more to them than meets the eye.
Thank you for your kind post. I guess its not very popular because it requires Linux and adb. I think most people around here use Windows?
Its great for my use case. I connect phones on a laptop and clean them via SamCleaner remotely over an SSH connection. I guess if more people used it, I'd implement more features.
About fused location, it is a sad truth these days, companies and individuals make a lot of money spying and gathering data about the general public. I guess Samsung has had enough with people removing the most important app that gathers location data.
Updated the package blacklist and added new package descriptions. There is now a new section for malware apps.
Added more blacklisted packages, added a new feature to force-stop apps when they are being disabled.
Added a new feature to Test the blacklist against the connected device and report possible changes (uninstall or disable packages).

ROOT access is required for this app!
This app automatically modifies wide range of low-level system parameters using ROOT access. By using this app you agree with EULA and any possible risks.
FeraDroid Engine (FDE) - an All-in-One ultimate optimizer for all devices running Android OS. All parameters are individual for EVERY device depending on it's hardware/software characteristics. FDE.AI is totally compatible with very wide range of devices and Android OS versions. Very wide-range settings of OS and Linux kernel are configured, still being cross-platform utility, maximally compatible with all devices. FDE.AI applies configurations depending on hardware and software of device, so that in the end every device is configured individually. All applied changes are systemless (system partition is not touched). Some app features may not be supported on various CPUs/kernels.
Make a backup of your data just in case before installing this app. Don't use any other All-in-One tweakers with FDE.AI or things may get bad!

Hello I've bought and use the app for some time, overall it's pretty good. However I want to know more in details about some of the AI function/options that's not really explained everywhere in more detail (afaik), some clarification would be great
1. the difference between normal and alternate doze (how they works and stuff)
2. toggle bg apps kill (#killbgapps / #dontkillbgapps), what's this? what's the default config for fresh fde and what will it affect?
Hello.
I'm using Poco F1 , with Official corvus os and greenify and no other mods and stock kernel. I installed the free version and now my charging speed is way to slow after the installation.
While charging I switched of the phone, only to see the phone automatically trying to boot and then showing the charging logo, after seeing it, I disconnected the charger and booted into system.
Please help op if you could fix the charging issue, I would really love to buy it.

1. In first case used direct force deep doze mode. On some heavy modified systems like MIUI this causes various issues, so i came out with another method - dumpsys deviceidle step x3 times - this avoids direct force doze but makes it skip idle wait, motion sensor check steps & go directly to light doze - this way it doesn't conflict with nothing, but may not work as well as expected. Simply - use alternatedoze only if you have troubles with normal doze.
2. #killbgapps executes only once you type it - it doesn't do it automatically. Issued 'am kill-all' commad which is nearly same as you'd clear all your recents, while cached data is still in ram.

Hi, maybe try to change kernel - in last FDE versions I removed anything that can be related to charging. If you will buy pro version, you can get refund if things 'll go wrong & you want to uninstall it. Thanks.
Seems working
I think i see some differences
Android 10 keeps applying restrictions for the app not use battery in background, after every reboot of the system, should I worry about that? Also, can I leave fde in that "optimized" list in settings/battery management?
Fde is amazing , thanks!

If I just want to install a custom ROM, some basic FOSS apps and maybe TWRP and then install a ROM update a couple of times a year, is there anything that I would need root permission for? If I don't root the phone what am I losing out on? Is it just that I would be able to get a more complete backup with root access? So many "Top 10 reasons" articles make it sound like root is required to install a ROM but that's obviously not the case with the OnePlus 8T.
Time and it may prove harder to troubleshoot.
If you get stupid, malware or a rootkit might get in.
If you wanna play god you better know what your doing. It's almost impossible to crash a stock Android. Not so with a rooted phone, and that's assuming you don't inadvertently brick it while rooting. I've lost count of all the "I bricked my phone" threads here.
I don't root as my stock N10+'s run well, fullfill their mission and are reasonably secure even with outdated firmware. Simply not worth the time and the risk of destroying a valuable device that's notoriously hard to root (in my case) for the gains I would get.

With an unlocked bootloader and no root, you won't be able to:
- use banking apps, Netflix, or any app that requires the device passing SafetyNet.
- fully backup/restore your apps and their data.

Were I planning to keep my OnePlus 8T with the stock OS, I suppose having root access would at least allow me to turn off some of the more annoying bloatware such as Zen. But with my older OnePlus, like you, I've chosen to tolerate the annoyances because introducing Magisk seems like it would be a make-work project for the life of the phone.
On the new phone I'm planning to switch out the operating system so if ever I was going to root a phone, this would be the time. I'm still thinking it over, especially the backup question. I don't keep anything important on my phone so if I had to rebuild it after a wipe it would be time consuming but eventually I'd get everything back to the way it was, I think.
Thank you for your reply; it was good to hear the perspective of someone from the non-rooted camp.

Thank you, kind Sir, for this summary explanation. It confirms my rather fuzzy understanding of the main reason people put so much work into maintaining root, i.e. banking apps and Netflix.
I don't use my phone for either so I guess it comes down deciding whether or not having a backup of a few really basic FOSS apps (and contact list?) would be worth the complexity of Magisk.
Maybe the thing to do would be, set up the phone with the custom ROM and apps, use it for a couple of weeks until I get comfortable with it, then wipe and rebuild. I'll know for sure then if a full backup was necessary.

Lol, I'm not that tolerant...
I use a package disabler (or you can use adb editing), a firewall and the DNS setting change below to globally kill ads.

I wish I had read this before unlocking the bootloader. My previous phone, the Poco X3, would pass fine with the majority of custom ROM's on Android 11 so I completely forgot about the root & magisk palaver I had to endure in the past. Think I'll pass for now on that basis!
EDIT - I've unlocked the bootloader and not rooted, and both the ROMs I've tested work absolutely fine with banking apps

Question Outgoing call profile video (China Rom) want to disable it.

every time I make a outgoing call, there is a profile video with music that plays in the background with music, I am using the original china rom and living in china, but I would like to know if anyone else have it outside of china, if so did anyone manage to disable it?
Hmm- I have original China rom (living in Canada) and have no such behavior
I did a very mild ADB before even using the device for the first time so it's possible i removed that package
I can show you the list of packages i've removed if that helps ?

That is what I currently have debloated - but by no means do i recommend using that as a definitive list - I have alot more tweaking to do as I'm continuing to experience many annoyances or problems so I don't have the phone in a perfect state yet
But...should give you a little direction how you can solve that call problem

Everything in my screenshot is safe to remove without worry - the only exception is make sure you have a keyboard (GBoard for example) installed as one of those debloats takes off the keyboard that comes stock (it's garbage)

not sure what "this" link is referring to but I used ADB GUI as with this link here:
GitHub - 0x192/universal-android-debloater: Cross-platform GUI written in Rust using ADB to debloat non-rooted android devices. Improve your privacy, the security and battery life of your device.

OH - also a quirk i encountered is the USBC cable that came with the phone would NOT play nice with my PC - I used a random one from amazon that worked perfectly. At first I thought i was not doing the ADB process properly...but it was just the cable
