I have two recoveries in my phone. Is this a problem? - General Questions and Answers

I have twrp on one recovery and shrp on the other. I install my rom through shrp, but when I go to recovery through the system, it boots into twrp. I had been using Havoc os and it crashed and booted into mi 11 (It's fixed now) and I'm wondering if this is the cause. Is having two recoveries bad and if so, how do I get rid of one of them? Which aprtition should I be putting the recovery in?

I cannot install custom roms through TWRP anymore

Hi there,
Yesterday I thought it was a good idea to flash a new rom (I bought my 2S early so I had a chinese rom I wanted to get rid off for a while).
My device is already unlocked and TWRP worked like a charm, that is, until today and last night. I first tried to flash lineageOS (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi.../rom-lineageos-16-0-xiaomi-mi-mix-2s-t3862712) and to my surprise it didn't boot after that, it just straight went back to fastboot.
So I flashed to the original rom (https://en.miui.com/download-343.html) using the fastboot method and the MiFlash program. My phone booted up again, but when I tried to flash Magisk to have root it got stuck and went straight to Recovery this time (as opposed to fastboot).
Next I tried to flash again using fastboot and then flash the rom I wanted (lineageOS). This time, lineageOS showed the boot screen from that rom, but it got stuck there for almost 5 minutes and then I decided to give up. Now, no matter which twrp or rom I try I either end up not being able to boot it and if I do I cannot flash Magisk for root. Is there anyone who has a solution? Everyone seems to be able to install lineageOS just fine... Thanks!
Here's what I tried so far:
- Flashing original roms (older versions too)
- Using fastboot format data, system, cache to remove all data instead of just using TWRP
- Flashing 3 different unofficial roms (neither worked, all were stuck in their respective bootscreen for at least 5 minutes)
When flashing magisk try this method from NOS_bzone
Hope this helps
Seems like I'm having a quite similar problem.... https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/help/boot-installing-custom-rom-t3868623
I managed to flash the global official rom + Magisk by these steps:
Download official rom (from: https://en.miui.com/download-343.html) (I used the fastboot method, clean all, NOT clean all and lock)
Download magisk
Download MiPa kernel: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-mi-mix-2s/development/kernel-mipa-kernel-t3831437
Flash the rom first using fastboot and MiFlash, then go to TWRP, then magisk and then MiPa (it will retain magisk)
After that I was able to boot and retain a successful root. I don't know about custom roms at the moment, but at this point after working on it for more than 12 hours, I don't feel like trying

TWRP 3.5.0 Installation Silently Fails

Hi everyone,
I've been trying to get TWRP to stick for a while now, but still haven't been able to get it to install. A while ago I managed to flash Resurrection Remix using Lineage recovery which does work, but since Lineage recovery is quite limited, I really wanted to get TWRP to work. Since TWRP 3.5.0 released yesterday, I gave it another shot hoping that they fixed the issue, to no success.
I can get into TWRP just fine by temp booting it with fastboot, but after flashing the installer zip, any recovery that was previously installed gets wiped and the device will reboot when trying to get into recovery. I can still boot my phone otherwise.
The steps I took to get to this point:
Unlocked bootloader
fastboot boot twrp.img
Decrypt using screen pattern (successfully)
Flashed twrp installer zip (no error messages, process finishes successfully)
Reboot into recovery (both from twrp and bootloader at a later point)
Things I've tried:
Use a different TWRP version. Same problem as described above on both 3.4.x and 3.5.x, can't get it to decrypt on lower versions due to Android 10.
Install to recovery ramdisk, this just breaks things even more, probably because it's an A/B device?
Try a different recovery. Lineage recovery works just fine, but it's very very limited. Would really like to get TWRP working.
Trying to flash the zip results in no error messages, but any previously installed recovery gets wiped and magisk is uninstalled, which leads me to believe that it has done at least something to the boot img.
Thank you in advance.
EDIT 25.02.2021:
- Attached TWRP log
EDIT 12.03.2021:
- Log didn't want to attach, they can be found here: https://pastebin.com/awnhHDBU
Same question here. It seems that you can only boot from TWRP, not install it.
Tried installing again today, to no avail. However, I was smart enough to save the log this time. I have attached it to the main post, would be much appreciated if someone could check it out.

How to get into twrp / reinstall neccessary?

Hello,
i have a question about getting into Recovery or maybe i have to install it again?
So i installed twrp following this guide
Install LineageOS on walleye | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org
At first i installed the Lineage OS recovery but wasnt able to flash a ROM with that so i switched and installed twrp.
It was installed to slot A.
I then went ahead and installed an ASOP ROM.
Now the ROM is working fine and i wanted to go into TWRP and do a Backup.
However i cant get into TWRP. Not with key combos nor with adb reboot recovery.
All i get is the fallen Android Robot picture.
I guess i wrote the image to Slot A as well and now have no recovery left.
Do i have to flash TWRP again and this time to Slot B?
I dont wanna brick anything by accident as i have seen some posts where people switched Slots and got bricks / semi bricks.
Thanks for any help or clarification.
Kind Regards
Hello mate, i never reinstalled twrp on my pixel 2 after catching a bootloop after installing it and then flashing magisk so stuck with using fastboot to fastboot boot twrp when I wanted to flash a ROM/mod.
Sounds strange that twrp was only on 1 slot as the twrp installer zip should flash both slots when flashed?
With regard to losing twrp you'll probably find that the new ROMs recovery has overwritten your twrp recovery during the flashing process giving you a stock recovery again (Fallen android). When I was using a 6T which is an A/B slot device you always had to reflash the twrp installer after a ROM flash to keep twrp installed.
I'd check the official twrp thread re backing up with twrp as it did have problems either backing up or restoring last I used it.
Hope that's some help.

Boot to fastboot after flashing any custom ROM

Hello,
I have Samsung J4 core (j410f) rooted with stock ROM.
I wanted to install a custom ROM and tried to flash lineage os 17.1 (unofficial). What i did is:
1. Flashed TWRP 3.1 using odin
2. Wiped every thing (Data, Cache, System)
3. Flashed lineage successfully
4. Rebooted the phone. But got straight to fastboot.
5. To fix this I flashed stock firmware and it booted normally.
I tried again with different versions of lineage, same result. Used other ROMs like havoc, again the same. Changed recovery with orangefox instead of twrp, no difference.
The thing is I can use custom recoveries with stock ROM without a problem. But I can't flash any ROM without resulting in fastboot. Can anyone help me here? Please??
Now, I know this forum is from a long time ago, but did you get any errors when installing LineageOS for the first time? (like E1001 or something)

TWRP boot timeout, ROM LineageOS

Hello, I'm not usually a poster to any forum as my questions can be found with enough digging but I can't find my answer, so here goes.
BACKGROUND:
Stock: Motorola 5G Ace (kiev). Android 10. I think it was Snapdragon 690.
Unlocked bootloader
Installed to TWRP 3.5.2 for the 5g ace to both partions _a, _b
Used TWRP to flash lineage-18.1-20210701-UNOFFICIAL-kiev
All commands sent through BASH
DISCUSSION:
Tried to install Gapps after LineageOS, recieved errors that said something like no room or storage and went through each line with a fail. Verified cache was wiped, tried again. Failed again then moved to reboot with just OS.
Lineage OS installed with success.
Boot back to recovery, TWRP is gone and now it's LineageOS recovery. Could not figure out how to flash Gapps to with LineageOS, but learned that if reducing Gapps size it should work in TWRP, so re flashed TWRP, no problems.
PROBLEM:
TWRP will not load. At load screen it shows the TEAMWIN logo and lasts for a min or so then times out, reboots and loads OS.
Will adb to bootloader.
Will adb to fastboot, BUT enters TWRP, no screen touch will accept commands then lock screen initates at about 30-60s and hard reset to get out.
Can fastboot to recovery. but enters orginal TWRP boot time out.
-----------------------------------
REQUEST:
Please assist in troubleshooting why recovery will not boot so I can get Gapps flashed.
-----------------------------------
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
If plugged into charger/power it wont stay turned off and boots. Will only turn off from LineageOS.
Can not boot into fastbootd but I'm guessing that was something related to the original recovery that I wiped.
Comments:
Would this have something to do with LineageOS at Android 11 and my original TWRP was set for android 10?
All I was trying to do was get Gapps to load, super bummed that I was so close. At least my phone is still a phone.
Your TWRP is old. You can flash gapps from the linage recovery. If it was me, I would reflash the ROM and use the lineage recovery to flash the gapps. Once you know that the system is working, worry about the TWRP. The best place to look is the Telegram channel.

That's what I figured, what version would be better? Reading the TWRP pages make me believe I can't just pick anything that has a newer release date.

Lineage recovery appears gone. Do you know how to get it back, or if i'm wrong and then how do I get back into it?

I agree this would be a good path, but I have no access to any recovery SW. From what I understand I can't do this from inside the LineageOS either. Silver lining; Lineage is working fine.
Are you rooted with Magisk?
I am using TWRP 3.6.0_11.0 RC1.4. There is an installer that you can use Magisk to flash. It downloaded it from the Telegram channel. There is also a .img file in the Telegram channel.
https://t.me/MotoG5GOfficial is the correct channel.
That was it. Old TWRP. Thank you very much.
You are welcome.
