I just ordered a Pro version from Lenovo.
Just how happy is everyone with their US stock version?
I have Xaoxin Pad Pro (original name) from China with global ROM and I quite happy with it.
Can I ask you a question after you get your tablet? I need to check something in the firmware. You'll just have to look in a certain folder.

I have it. Got it yesterday. Did you get the info you need or would you like me to look at mine for you?
It's a TB-J706F.
I can't figure out what they're talking about in the Quick setup about attaching the Pen. They talk about some hook to push the holder on to but damned if I see anything on mine. I don't think that double sided tape will hold on the texture of the cover/stand for the back of it either.

Yes, mine is the same.
Please look inside the /system/app_backup folder, what folders do you see there? You can just list them or take a screenshot. I want to compare. It seems, Lenovo makes one version of ROM for all countries.
Sorry, I don't know anything about the pen, I just have a tablet with a cover.
Attached screen shot.
Not feeling very happy with mine right now. Maybe I need time to get used to it but I don't like productivity mode. Seems to me some things don't work. Like clicking on an apps full screen button.
I'm trying to run Kodi on it. The youtube addon is slow.........Kodi 18.9 ArmV8A 64bit. I guess that's the one I should use. Kodi 19.1 and the Aeon Nox Silvo skin don't like the touch screen. Don't like the three navigation buttons timing out, wish they would just stay on screen.
Disappointing when I went to Lenovo's site to register it and was told there is no warranty??? I registered it anyway.

Ahaha, same content as mine. Yes, Lenovo is very-very lazy, one ROM for whole world.
Yandex* is russian company,
and you only see this **** on you because the russian government has passed a law to install some russian soft on new smartphones and tablets. And stupid lazy Lenovo rushed to implement this law.
They just stole our hard drive space because you can't delete it.
If you install and run LenovoRUapps, it will take you to Lenovo's website, where it says about it and where you can download this very Russian software. Why would Lenovo install it in the system partition and steal our space?

Well my second shipment came without a keyboard dock too! Ugh!!
As to the tablet, it performs very well so far. I haven't used it much as I decided not to take it with me on my grad school trip. It was fast, thin, light weight, and had great viewing angles and a nice/bright screen. It played mkvs just fine using Dice Player. I havent really put it through it's paces yet.
Okay I have done some bench marking with the S2110 Tablet from Amazon that came without the keyboard dock that I will be sending back. Here is a summary:
AnTuTu Benchmark - 6781
Quadrant - 4797
Vellamo - 2203
CF-Bench Over all Score - 9261
SunSpider - 1930.1 ms
Battery Test. I looped a 42 minute 720p MKV file with screen at 50% brightness and wifi always connected. Tablet last 9h 14m.
I have taken screen shots of all the tests. If we compare to the results table on this review, http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/nexus-7-review/, the Lenovo lands in the middle of the ASUS Transformer Prime and the ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity TF700 in terms of benchmark results.

No, but that is probably because few people have actually gotten it yet. Lenovo is back ordered and most everyone bought this with a keyboard dock. To my knowledge, no one has received a keyboard dock. Mine was supposed to come with one, but the box didnt have one. It is going back today.
Bootloader lock situation?
These are starting to show up in users' hands (some unboxing YouTube vids in the last couple of days). Can anyone who has one let us know the situation with the bootloader? Is it locked? Is it easily unlockable? Is it encrypted?
This is an interesting tablet in terms of cost/value, and would be a lot more so if ROM/kernel customization is possible.

There could be a developer firmware on the device... so the update with OTA dont work.

I followed the instructions at that link and they did not work on my XP SP3 box. After some cross-referencing with the Lenovo forum ( http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/IdeaPad...-Rooted-directions-and-batch-file/td-p/868329 ), I was able to successfully root my S2110A-F (per FCC label) on a Windows 7 box. As a new member I can't post to the developer forum so here's my changes.
The key things to note:
* The drivers' .inf file seems to be missing the specific entries for the S2110. Per the Lenovo forum, I had to add these lines to the .inf :
; S2110
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_17EF&PID_7486
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_17EF&PID_7486&MI_01
* On XP, I had to rename the android_winusb.inf to winsub.inf for XP to be able to find the drivers but that only partially worked, because ....
* the i386 dlls in the S2110-root.zip from the quoted link have "Windows 7 RTM" in their description once installed.
So even though the device manager says that it accepted the drivers, they didn't actually work as XP was not able
to detect the hardware when attached.
* Under Windows 7, I still had to modify the .inf file but I did not have to rename it.
After that, the RootDebugfs.bat ran as designed.
I went today looking for my daily dose of disappointment looking for the update or any news of it, only to come across this.

It mentions somethins for a CUSTC which is not the same as mine but it IS a DAV-701L.

Good find. Thanks for the news. It is definitely the genuine Firmware update for the P8Max and the link provided is directly from an official Huawei server. I downloaded it just for the sake of it as my CUSTC number is for Middle East and noticed it also has an OTA update section in a separate folder. However, when updating it stated incompatible firmware and aborted the process-no harm done to the device or existing settings. I wish someone could find a way to change the default CUSTC numbers so that we could mess around with it.
I would say if anyone is looking for the version for their own phones then simply go to the Huawei support section on their website and just keep an eye on the downloads section to see if your version pops up.
So it looks that we are finally beginning to see the Android M coming our way but it sure is a slow and painful journey.

Hi! Could you kindly explain how you managed to install this update on your P8 Max. My one is the Middle East [Kuwait] version of the firmware. Also does anyone know what to do with the flashable OTA update folder in the separate folder found inside the download pack?
Well, after reading the friend from Romania succeeded, i tried it myself with my CUSTC100D002 and it sailed through the installation... No problems, just rebooted, doing a check and will get back...
I did exactly like in the tutorial that you will find at the link post above, were you find the rom.
Huawei browser is missing, Huawei Swype keyboard is missing, launcher seems to have only 4x4 and 4x5 settings (pretty sure the original 5.1.1 had a 5x5 also.)....
Quite disappointed so far...
I've had with those a-holes. One step forward, 10 steps back. Going to ask for a refund on this POS. No respect towards the buyer/user whatsoever.
I like the update, don't use the Huawei apps. I love the EMUI 4.0 themes, use Dark Ui theme now

Things are missing, huawei keyboard (which was actually nice), Huawei browser, the 5x5 which is quite important as the 4x5 feels like half the screen is unused.
They really pulled their eyes out with their own hands.
If i don't find a way to go back to 5.1.1 i'm going for a refund.

Hello gents,
I am pretty sure this is the correct place for this post, my apologies to the mods if not.
I preordered the Vernee Mars Pro, which on paper sounds rather impressive. My only concern with the device is that not too long ago there was a bunch of hubbub about malware being on devices originating from china.
I understand that if my concern is that deep, that i shouldn't be buying Chinese devices, but ehh?
Anyways, I was hoping that someone might have some knowledge into looking into firmware to check for said malware. I would very much appreciate a little help when I get mine in.
Cheers!
A lot of Chinese phones do contain bloatware and other forms of crapware. It can include malware, but not always, it is a gamble really. Unfortunately, I am not sure about anything related to this. But I do follow one practice if the phone doesn't have custom ROM, I usually don't buy it. I tend to wipe original ROM away and add a custom one, that is the safest way to protect your data from chinese providers.

Chinese phones are officially not allowed for people in Armed Forces. I read it somewhere that they send whole text messages to servers in china...
Anyways get a custom rom ,install xposed framework and then get Xprivacy.
Then block any existing malware

About bloatware in android of Vernee Mars Pro:
On mine, "CheckChineseBackdoor.apk was checked positive and App-remov find a "com.adups.fota" as "mise à jour" (updates) application ..... It was configured to be able to modify system (!) and you had to be root to erase it .... before uninstalling i hope desactivate "modify system" is true and stop application too.

Yeah, I guess fair point stands, right now a lot of Chinese market phones flagged for backdoors, malware and just in general a mess. It seems they are using the same either Android distributor or software distributor, that just adds plenty of unnecessary apps.
I accidentally activated the e-ink mode.
Unfortunately I can not disable it because you can not pull down the notification bar.
Does anybody know how to deactivate the e-ink mode to have a color display again?

One of the first things I installed on my Magisk-rooted OP7 is a program to kick greedy users off the wifi temporarily (Pixel Netcut), but it threw me into a boot loop.
On the next round, I installed Arcai Netcut. It works, but the $12 per year seems a bit steep, I don't expect to use it that often, only when sharing space with someone who's being a pig. A nice feature is that you don't have to kick them out, you can reduce their speed to, say, 30%.
Would some of you know of other apps that serve that purpose and are stable on Magisk-rooted OP7?
Thanks!!!!

Ha, I never said that I personally bought that phone… Otherwise, I could see your point!
And value-wise, I do spend $12 a year for Reverso, but I use that every day… When I contrast that to a program I might use a couple times a year, it seems steep (for my needs).

Had your problem a while ago, but in my research dsploit never worked correctly. You may try but the only working solution was netcut, because after a certain Android version every other app became obsolete.

Hey there,
I've been using my Realme 5 Pro with an ungoogled custom ROM for a while now, and I felt safe until I saw a video from The Linux Experiment (Videolink is with timestamp):
In the video, he mentions that he no longer wants to use a Chinese phone because China might force the manufacturer to install spyware. I know that The Linux Experiment is very skilled, but in this case I am not sure if he is a little bit paranoid. ^^
My questions are:
1. Is it possible for Chinese companies to spy on a phone with an open bootloader, custom ROM, and custom recovery?
2.1 I have already read that backdoors on the hardware side might be possible. Is this true?
2.2 How high is the risk of this happening?
2.3 What Information can they get with a backdoor on the hardware side?
3. How concerned should I be, because getting a phone without chinese influence is very hard?
Thanks for your help.
PS: I don't want political discussions. Just the technical view on my concerns, which are my personal opinion.

Is it really worth the effort? wouldn't a Hardwarebackdoor mean, that you only get machine language which has to be processed and sorted?
For a very important device like the phone of a president or minister that might be a practical solution but how much work is it to do that for a massive amount of people?
Thanks for your answer!
