Some phones have OIS while others don't. Camera apps can be installed on almost any phone. So does a camera app need to be informed that a phone has OIS - e.g. by a setting ?
Or, is the image received by camera apps from the phone hardware already 'processed' by the OIS hardware ?
And, is it possible to disable OIS (for whatever reason) ?

Through a long boring series of accidents, I am now pretty much stuck on the ROM that's installed on my tablet. It's a pretty good ROM, but it has a bug in the camera software that prevents me from recording video from the front-facing camera. With the rear facing camera it records just fine. I guess I can live with it if I have to, but everything worked perfectly on the stock rom that came with my tablet. So I'm wondering how deep into the guts of the tablet the software for the camera has to go, and if there's any hope that I can replace the faulty bits of software on my current OS with the working bits from the stock OS. Both are based on Gingerbread 2.3.5 so I'm hoping it's possible.
I've tested a few replacement camera applications from the google play store, but they are all unable to record off the front camera, so I think this suggests that it's an underlying driver or other library thing. Does anyone know what files are associated with interfacing the camera to the camer app? Are they independent of the kernel, or is the kernel part of this mess? I can still flash a kernel, but I haven't tried for fear it will mess up the current ROM.
Let me be more specific about the problem:
1. front camera works fine for taking pictures or streaming over wifi/3g with those types of apps
2. If I'm using the rear camera I can switch to video mode, but if I then swap to the front camera the app force closes. Conversely, if I'm using the front camera and I switch to video mode, the app also force closes.
Bumping for help
The photon's camera is killing me. I can't take macro pictures in shady conditions. This is what happens when I'm trying to take that picture.
-I'm aiming on some surface/object (shady and close).
-Camera sets exposure to brighten the picture.
-I'm tapping the area to focus.
-Flash turns on.
-In split second camera is blinded by flash and aborts focus.
Please someone tell me there is some tweak to make camera wait with flash. I tried many camera apps but only solution I found was constant flash in e.g Camera FV-5. But i'm not satisfied with that.
For example my Samsung Xcover 2 is turning flash on, changes the exposure to not be blinded and focus like a charm.
That is why I use "Focal" as my camera app.
You can turn on the "flashlight" and then focus.
I have never found a similiar good app (focal is not perfect but it is ok) with that "feature".

There is e.g. "Camera FV-5", "lgCamera" and "A Better Camera" with this feature. You can try them and compare with Focal. But me, as I said, I'm not satisfied with that
Thx for the little list.
Anyway, I don't have a better way of focusing.
Maybe this is (also) controlled by the ROM?
It may be possible to add the same procedure like in the Samsung Xcover 5.
(Not for me but for the developers of CM.)
Anytime that I attempt to open the standard [non-wide angle] front camera, I receive an unknown error warning (see screenshot). Have reset phone, etc.
Sony test utility shows error in standard front cam, however the wide-angle front cam functions normally. Rather than send the phone in for repair, I'm wondering if it's possible to have the front camera open on the wide-angle by default?
Unfortunately, once the camera app is open, the switch to wide angle is not functional, so there's no way that I can activate the wide-angle front camera. Any ideas? Thanks

Is a bug
It is not a bug. I do not have this problem at all. First.......
-Tell me what mods you have install
-tell me what you have for root and if magisk what modules
The camera error is being caused by something you have flashed or modded. Worst case scenario your camera is broken

I think the camera module is broken, as the phone is unrooted and unmodded, running the latest official stock for the region (Customized US). I might not bother to send it in for repair, as I don't use the front cameras much, anyway.
BUT- Is there any way to have the camera app open the wide-angle front camera by default? This would circumvent the problem. Thanks.

Probably not unless you know to edit an app and recompile the app. But good luck cause Sonys camera is tied into the framework so mess something and ur back to square one
So my poco x3 fell and looks like the main camera (64 mp) is gone. It won't focus anymore, I guess it's something related to lens calibration or w/e.
But all the other cameras are working fine.
Turns out most of the apps that use the camera at some point (like banking apps, expenses apps, etc) uses this main camera.
I wonder if there is a way to change what the device considers its main camera. In this case, making the 13mp camera the "default" one for me would solve most of my issues.
I have to login to my bank account and I need to scan a photoTAN image but the app by default uses the main camera which is broken, is there any way to make the wide screen back camera as the default one to be used by apps on my phone?
Any ideas anyone?
I'm also searching for the same issue but no answer
This post may give you an idea:
Change default rear camera?
Hey guys, My main rear camera is broken and I was wondering if my default camera can be changed to the wide-angle lens, because the wide angle lens works fine. The phone is a Moto X4 and it has a dual rear camera set up. So my question is...
