Note: Please report any bugs you find. I no longer have a functional version of this phone so I'm relying on you guys to let me know if things are messed up and I will do my best to fix them.

Please note that this is an untested build as of right now.
I do not have a functional version of this device, but the build compiled with no issues so I do not expect any problems when flashing. But as always, you are responsible for your own actions.

I can't get it to boot.
Edit: when I try to connect my device to get a logcat, I type "adb devices" and the result I get is the device number and "offline". (Thats the first time I've gotten that.) When attempting to get the logcat it says "waiting for device" and that's it.

I'll upload a debug build tonight so you can get a logcat
It's coming up as offline because 4.2+ added the rsa key popup/confirmation, but you can't confirm if it's not booted up

Yes you got to flash SuperSU for root

Magisk is better. It has MagiskHide, passes Safetynet and definitely has no safety risks. If you want to know more, head to r/AndroidRoot and write "supersu" in your post. The bot will tell you everything.

Actually I don't know, however there are some device specific bugs on the treble roms and if you encounter a problem with a port it's more likely that it'll be fixed faster

What do you mean by "crack into a vendor image", what did you do there (if any changes)............please elaborate.
Also this work is of @Lyuu not yours.
Lyuu has been developing Treble for athene since quite some time now.
Q) Why do you think she didn't release treble here on XDA? Was she dumb or does she not know how to make a thread?
A) No, because it's not ready to use yet. Lyuu once hard bricked her device while working on treble and that's the reason it has been paused now till Official Oreo comes out.
Please take this down or consider yourself reported as this treble is not stable for use (its still developing) and can hard brick the device too.

I don't know what's up with Magisk and Data mount bug, it has been there with every Pie ROM
But I can help you to install Magisk and root.
Install Magisk Manager
Here is the link to Boot image which needs to be flashed
Download ADB & Fastboot files in computer
Put boot.img into ADB & Fastboot folder
Put your phone in Fastboot mode
Connect phone to computer
Open cmd and type fastboot.exe flash boot boot.img
Now restart
You'll have Magisk Root installed
