I have a Motorola G 4 Plus, rooted SU 2.82, latest TWRP, Havoc 2.9, Android 9 Pie. Arm v7I.
Upon trying to install Youtube Vanced through the Vanced Manager, the app crashes and the install fails with the message "failed for unknown reason blah blah blah please go to the Telegraph Discord group" I can post a log file if needed.
After that ordeal, the Youtube app appears in my app drawer, when I try to open it it says "you don't have Google Play Services" and closes.
I tried this with micro-g installed, I disabled apk signature verification with Lucky Patcher, doesn't make a difference.
I even made sure to allow unknown sources and checked the permissions. No go.
I also tried the apks installer through the SIS installer or whatever its called, SAS, SAI or whatever, no luck.
Feels like my phone can go as far as to root and custom recovery and custom rom and busybox and such but continue to find myself in these annoying situations with no resolution. Other people seem to be able to get it to work though. Perhaps its the phone?
Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Do you have magisk installed or are you using another solution for root? I saw your post about brave not working , may I suggest a rom reinstall? Try it with the microg gapps package.
Edit: grammar.

Rooted with SU 2.82 flashed via TWRP and use SU app. Not magisk. Perhaps I'll try another ROM. Too bad Havoc seems really good customizable.
I originally forgot to wipe cache and dalvik/art cache after flashing the Havoc ROM so maybe that screwed things up, I'll try re-flashing.
I'd remove SU and use magisk 21.4 (not higher, and never update it ever).
when was 2.82 released ? it must be a long time ago now and I don't think it's recommended for anything anymore.
even without any root Vanced manager would install your microg and vanced just fine.

I don't know how much you are concerned about the fact Chainfire is no longer maintaining SuperSU (apparently 2.76 version was the last one developed by him) and the fact it was taken over by some mysterious chinese company, but if you are - there's an alternative. If you want to read more about this issue - here's the link to reddit thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/54xdmp/ccmt_who_exactly_are_the_owners_of_supersu/
The new owner of SuperSU may or may not be a bad guy, but closed source root manager in hands of some chinese company that we don't really know anything about is kind of a gamble. Fortunately there's an open source alternative - Phh's Superuser. Rooting a phone with it is even easier than using SuperSU, as you avoid all that system/systemless hassle and just root. The only disadvantage is that you need to install the manager separately.
In order to replace SuperSU with Phh's Superuser you need to:
1. Go to SuperSU and fully unroot your device
2. Download Phh's binary from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/wip-selinux-capable-superuser-t3216394 (TWRP flashable zip direct download link)
3. Flash the zip in TWRP
4. Download Phh's Superuser - https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdid=me.phh.superuser
5. Install Superuser and enjoy
I tried this on 6.01 stock and can confirm everything is working (so far). Let me know what are your thoughts about this. Thanks
Seriously ? If 2.76 was the last by chainfire, it means my 2.78 currently installed with nougat rom, with full power on my phone of course, is made by some mysterious chinese company, chills
On spetrum working nice ant thank you so mucho for the info:good:
I think I ll give a try with nougat, is the app on f-droid the same as on the play store ? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser

It seems so (both have the same version number). They probably have different signature, so you won't be able to update PlayStore version in F-Droid and vice versa.
I can confirm it work on nougat perfectly.
Thank you
Thanks for the info.

Hello, yes, tried on stock 6.1 with squid kernel too, works fine.
The full unroot will uninstall the app automatically
In step 4, i have installed pph from play store
thanks dude!we hope that will be stable and supported!
can I do it right now?or must I f.reset first?also do I have to give permissions to root apps one to one?
Στάλθηκε από το SGP611 μου χρησιμοποιώντας Tapatalk
no need to factory reset.
May be before full unroot freeze or uninstall any app who will try to get root permissions, and be sure to not have any malware who will try to get root, just by security, we never know...
One pph apk installed from play store or fdroid : when you will unfreez or reinstall those apps, pph will pop up to ask if you want to allow root permission, like supersu
For anyone concerned about this issue, I highly suggest you read this:
http://dirtyunicorns.com/2016/09/06/supersu-the-fear-and-the-plan/
There's most likely nothing to be worried about.

It worked with root but I got an error when I finished the tutorial. Then I saved my game with a Nintendo account and I cleared game data. I've used magisk hide with this game and I can play again

After you've installed Magisk you just need to go to the Settings in the Magisk Manager APP and enable Magiskhide and then you should See a new tab for Magisk hide in the Manager APP and just select the Apps you want to hide root.
(Sorry for my Bad English)

So do I flash via twrp the zip in the magisk post?
I use magisk to hide mario but when i pass the tutorial send error 804 5100 and have to delete the Account:.xml located in /data/data/com.nintendo.zara/sharedfolder and then log in with my account so brings my save but i complete 1 course and the same error again and have to do it all over again, does anybody find a solution for this?
Is magisk a supersu replacement or can I just install alongside? It also says it requires 5.x so no 4.4?

Don't think magisk works with cm12 on Amzn Fire Phone bc bootloader isn't actually unlocked. They should limit SafetyNet to Leaderboards - pretty sure that's what all the fuss is about. Fine, Nintendont take my money!
Magisk Manager won't install Magisk on my rooted S7 Edge. I've read that it's not compatible with Samsung devices right now, don't know if that's true. How else can I make Super Mario Run work?
suhide give me bootloop with lineos so I will try magisk

Rooted Nexus 5 running Cataclysm 6.0.1
Miitomo was patched using a special security bypasser made for it, and also with XPosed and RootCloak. Is there a similar method for those who seem to have issues using Magisk?
I myself haven't tried Magisk. I'll see how it works on my Galaxy S7. :fingers-crossed:
Xda, please merge this thread with the other thread that I made. I accidentally made a duplicate.
I do not have Google Play services installed, and it seems to need it.
I'm currently running Magisk with Magisk Hide on and RootCloak as well and it keeps erroring out. Currently the only workaround I've found is deleting the deviceAccount xml file in the app prefs folder. I have a feeling it has something to do with xposed or safetynet that's causing it to fail. I enjoy the game enough that I wouldn't mind buying it, but not if Nintendo is going to lock users out like this.
Hey all,
Just purchased a LG U2 and now trying to make it work in the way i want it.
All informations here seem very old, so I wanted to open an update thread, with all what is possible on th lgu2, while
I found only very outdated informations...:crying:
So far:
First I setup the watch with AW2.0, after that flashed twrp 3.1.1.0 and supersu wear 2.82
I managed to get busybox installed and wanted further add Xposed.
There my problem starts, flashing xposed didn't work out.
So right after that, I switchd to Magisk root, to try work with the modules supplied.
(Steps -> use script UnSU, after that flash boot.img again, than flash MAgisk through twrp)
But after that the same with the modules. I try to install busybox, magisk tell me its no magisk module (i've downloaded the module and pushed it on the sd through adb, while the download button isn't reachable in magisk dialogue menu)
in twrp the module tells me there is no magisk installed.
so how can we go on from here? is there a way to make it all work?
did somebody try to change dpi and download the module directly through magisk? does it work?
also if somebody could help with an updated list of sideload able full android apps?
would need an email that can handle at least two accounts directly on the watch (please not advice outlook, its working from the phone i know)
thanks to all in advance

Ok i did a fresh flash.
i see my fault was to install busybox the first time after installing supersu.
did it this time without and mgisk works so far fine. granting access for total commander no problem.
but now another thing. i installed now busybox from the repos in magisk, he say installation successful, but the module isn't there after reboot?
anyone got the same?

Hi All,
Having a strange issue with Magisk.
I performed the upgrade today coming from renovate ice (Magisk module).
I followed the instructions of flashing the full OTA of the pie update. And then the blusparks TWRP. I rebooted into recovery and then flashed Magisk 17.1 as per the guide.
Booting back into the OS I can see that Magisk Manager is missing and my rooted apps are unable to get root either. Also when I try to goto the themes section inside settings the settings app crashes on me.
I attempted to reinstall Magisk but this did not work. I only noticed that when I was running the uninstaller for Magisk it did detect my boot image is Magisk rooted despite the OS not reflecting this.
Any ideas? My next step is 17.2 but I have my doubts on it.
EDIT: I tried 17.2 beta release and it made no difference. Exact same symptoms

I got my phone (SM-G950F a.k.a Samsung Galaxy S8) rooted about a year ago or so...and since, i update MM whenever needed but this time when i tried to update it, it says this:
Unsupported Magisk Version
This versio of Magisk Manager does not support Magisk version lower than v18.0
You can either manually upgrade Magisk, or downgrade the app to an older version.
I cannot go into the app cause that message will pop up and after i press ok it closes by itself!
Any ideea on how to fix this? If i have to re-root the phone please do explain..even then i didn't knew for sure how i did it, but i did it..
Thanks in advance!
Ahh... Me too. I'm sure this somewhere in the extensive Magisk coverage here. Is it too lazy to ask for a pointer to how to
--- downgrade the manager? That's probably easy if I know where to get the apk. Which version should I go for?
--- install the new magisk over the existing version, preferably without wiping the phone?
Sure, I'll search. But it is quite a while since I did anything with magisk, or anything that involved flashing, and I feel a bit lost.

Delete the Magisk Manager app as you would do with any other, download the proper version in .apk (check the official thread) and install it.
In the thread, under Sources, you have the link to the GitHub repo. Scrolling down you will find the README.MD file and the link to the Downloads page where all past releases are available.
From https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-install-magisk/ you can read:
The Magisk framework is now installed on your device. To manage it, you’ll need the aptly named Magisk Manager. This is what will allow you to install modules. Download the latest Magisk Manager APK here and make sure you have “Unknown sources” enabled in the Settings. Install the app and open it up.
The Manager app allows you to adjust root settings and also install modules, which are installable mods. The app doubles as a repository for a bunch of great modules that can easily extend the functionality of your device. Using the Manager app is an important part of getting the most out of this root method.

That is, the app Magisk Manager is independent from the Magisk framework you have installed. Deleting the app does not affect Magisk.

I'd reached there, although not done it yet. As you say, my phone is still working, Magisk is still working, it is just the manager app that needs dealing with. None the less, I appreciate your time and effort. You paint a clear picture for others who come this way.
Thanks.
Open the updated app & ignore the error, then checkout the option showing update magisk(not manager), go for it, dont select any preservations & click on direct install(which is recommended by app itself).
Flashing of the update will begin, then after reboot your problem is solved.
Magisk Manager has many improvements and features over the last year...
