What's the general consensus around here about using wallet-style cases with strong magnets in them to keep the case closed?
Is this going to do harm to a new phone? (Specifically an Oppo Find X3 Pro)? Of course it is going to make the compass not work whilst in the case, but does that matter? And will the phone be OK once removed from the case?
I've never liked the idea of a strong magnet next to a £1,000 device, but it seems pretty much all the wallet cases have these in them, so I don't seem to have any choice if that's the style of case I want.
Or should I just avoid that style of case altogether?
Many if not most of the magnetic phone cases are made by third-party suppliers, so you have to be careful when making a purchase.

Thanks for your reply but I really don't know what that means in practice. How can I be "careful"?

Hi fellows,
I realize there are already a number of threads for Note 8 case discussion, and what I am going to ask is also what others have asked in different threads. Still, I want to get a clear answer, if at all possible.
I'm a proud owner of N5110, and now trying to decide on a case. I've found amazing looking leather cases on amazon.de but they all seem to have sleep/wake function, which translates into, the cover has magnet. Now, I've been reading about all the people complaining about magnet case causing permanent damage to something in the screen that causes the S-Pen to stop working on the spots where magnet come into contact with the screen. Then I also see that some people are denying it, saying it doesn't make sense. Then I know that Samsung's original folio case has magnet in it. So, what's the deal?
For anyone interested in these cool cases, here are the links:
http://www.amazon.de/Manna-UltraSli...-sportroten/dp/B00COKD04C/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_3
http://www.amazon.de/Boenso-Design-...onsfunktion/dp/B00BZ3NG5M/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ce_2
http://www.amazon.de/UltraSlim-Tasc...tion/dp/B00C323U7I/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_4
Also, is there are point in buying original Samsung screen protector or a €5 protector off of eBay works as good?
Thanks!

My suspicion would be the strength of the magnet. So unless there are others with testimonies on whether a certain 3rd party case does or does not affect the screen, there is probably no way to know before you buy. Or if you really like the looks of a case, you may be able to cut and remove the magnet, without affecting the looks of the case too much. Or of course, you can get a case without the sleep/wake function.
I have a you tube channel called Geekynerddad and I have done a few videos on some different cases for the Note 4, links will be below. Some from Samsung, some from UAG and some from Verus...there is super protective to minimal and some folio style.

Hey, just bought the UAG folio case... Don't know if you're having this issue or not but, on mine at least, the magnets on the back side of the case that are meant to hold the flap closed actually create a dead spot for the S-Pen along the right hand side. Do you mind testing yours? I'm curious to know if it's a universal problem before I complain at them a bit. Thanks.

Can't really speak for the uag but it's a very common issue with magnetic closing cases to mess up the S pen.

Guess it makes sense... Bummer tho because it's a pretty good case otherwise.

Yeah I was considering one but was worried about magnetic interference. Their customer service is normally really good though, please keep us updated on the outcome of your complaint. Since they probably just copied the concept from their iPhone line they may not even be aware of the pen issue. Who knows they might even redesign it.
I have access to and am currently learning how to make resin and silicone molds through my friend's art projects. I just came to realize that not only do I have a Relay 4G, but also know what would be nice in a case for the device itself. Given the time involved that I sort of have or dont have, if I come up with a good product using the resin and/or silicone for a phone case, would there be any interest in purchases for beta case testers? This could be a thing, since there arent any durable safety cases for the phone itself. Plus it could be made in several different varieties and colors. Just an idea that could possibly become a real project if theres some interest!
If you come up with something good I would be interested.
Since i have a new device i won't have to worry about messing it up while using it.
I will start designing a few ideas here in the next week!
there are already plenty of hard plastic cases for the relay. what i'd be interested in would be a case that fits with the extended battery back door, as there are currently no cases that fit w/ extended battery.
I received this case for my Galaxy S6 at an 85% discount in order to provide an honest review. Before I begin, it is important to note that I am not the type of person who would find a wallet case useful. I do not always carry my wallet with me on my person in the first place, and as I am often in the gym, I need a case that can stand up to sweat and dirt. That being said, I am reviewing this case as a wallet case. I'll assume that if you're interested in buying this, you have already made the decision that you are a wallet case kind of person. Finally, note that I did not use this case for more than a couple days. I cannot attest as to its long term durability.
My very first thought upon receiving the product was that it was packaged nicely. My second thought was that the included lanyard, which you need to loop into the case yourself, was extremely annoying. I removed it almost immediately after installing it.
The case has a distinct, leathery smell. The smell also rubs off on your fingers the first few days and can cause some minor alarm until you realize that it's from the case. It otherwise feels and looks premium.
My biggest gripe with the case is that it is not useful to someone with more than a few credit cards. There are 4 slots for cards, and one of the slots has a clear plastic cover, ideal for placing an ID for quick viewing. In my usage I found that each slot couldn't take more than 1 or 2 cards before the case was unable to close and began to warp. In total, if you have more than 6 cards, you're going to have to leave some behind. For me, this meant I could only fit my driver's license, my school ID, two credit cards, and two debit cards. And that's not including cash, which seems like a pain to put in and out.
As far as the phone's functionality goes, the case has a plastic frame that snugly fits around the phone. The buttons are accessible through openings in the case and are easy to press. If you need to take a phone call, it seems like you'd have to fold the wallet portion of the case around the back. Again, I'm not a wallet case person. I imagine this is the case with all similar products.
Overall, it's a nice product for what it's meant to do. My real problem was not being able to carry more than 6 cards. This made the case impractical for me. But if this is the type of case you want, it will do nicely.
EDIT: I added pictures and the Amazon link (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Artec...ywords=archetype+21+leather+samsung+galaxy+s6)

If you do not like that kind of case , you should give the opportunity to other who might use it for real
We are really down for this

Well I certainly like the case enough to keep it. I will probably use it while I am traveling, so I can consolidate cards and phone into one case, and since I will be traveling internationally I won't need some of my debit cards.
If you guys decide to make a simple case like the apple one for the 6/6+ I would love to try out something like that.

there are some members in this forum want to make that kind case you wanted .
How is the case now ?
I think 6 cards are over the limit of this case ,sorry for that anyway
That's the last accessory left for my Note 4 to buy. I've read the cases reviews here with great interest, but I have yet to find the one that meets those criteria;
-I'd like it to be a little bigger then the device, so it can protect it in case of a fall.
-Good protection of the rear camera lens.
-Easy on and off the device. I change cases frequently and I'd like to avoid scratches on the bezel as much as possible.
-I'd like it to have magnets for auto wake up/sleep, as long as those do not affect the functionality of the S-pen or something else on the device.
What do you think, is there such a case? Thanks!

Why don't you try S-View Cover or LED Cover case?
Both accommodate all requirements that you want.

I like the LED case, but...
-Expensive for me!
-I would like it to be a little bigger on its sides, so there would be better possibilities to protect the phone in case of a fall
Great product and I'm sure somewhere along the way I'll buy it, but right now I'm looking for something more of an entry level.

Nothing worth like the original case (in this case a case with all the features that you want).
Try finding a discounted one.
I get my LED case with 40% discount.
