Hi fellows,
I realize there are already a number of threads for Note 8 case discussion, and what I am going to ask is also what others have asked in different threads. Still, I want to get a clear answer, if at all possible.
I'm a proud owner of N5110, and now trying to decide on a case. I've found amazing looking leather cases on amazon.de but they all seem to have sleep/wake function, which translates into, the cover has magnet. Now, I've been reading about all the people complaining about magnet case causing permanent damage to something in the screen that causes the S-Pen to stop working on the spots where magnet come into contact with the screen. Then I also see that some people are denying it, saying it doesn't make sense. Then I know that Samsung's original folio case has magnet in it. So, what's the deal?
For anyone interested in these cool cases, here are the links:

http://www.amazon.de/UltraSlim-Tasc...tion/dp/B00C323U7I/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_4
Also, is there are point in buying original Samsung screen protector or a €5 protector off of eBay works as good?
Thanks!

My suspicion would be the strength of the magnet. So unless there are others with testimonies on whether a certain 3rd party case does or does not affect the screen, there is probably no way to know before you buy. Or if you really like the looks of a case, you may be able to cut and remove the magnet, without affecting the looks of the case too much. Or of course, you can get a case without the sleep/wake function.

I am a week from having the cash to pick up an N1. I know there have been a lot of threads about cases, but I wanted to outline some of my thoughts and get opinions before I make my purchase. In addition, it is a little scary to hear reports of the phone getting broken easily: truth or not.
My problem is that I am a pocket phone holder. I do not wear belts often and when I do I am loaded with badges and other junk. Although I could hostler it, I already feel like batman without the fancy costume, and when I am not at work the hostler would not be an option.
So my plan is:
1. Get one of the plastic skins. My first choice is Clear Coat (new user so I cannot provide link). Most of these products appear to be the same, and although Clear Coat skins appear to have gaps and not fit as well as other brands, they have an installation guarantee. This is mainly to help the screen, but I will get full body to avoid scratches elsewhere.
2. Get a thin Silicon Gel Case. My theory is the gel will assist with gripping the device and absorb the shock from falls should they happen. This should also assist the clear coat skin against scratches to the body.
3. Get some sort of hard case to slip it into when I put it in my pocket. Since I normally carry my phone there, I am worried about the mysterious screen crackings which could be related to stress applied to the device when you sit and such. Hopefully a hard case will protect against this.
So, this is probably a little overkill, but am I completely insane?
My current phone is the T-mobile Shadow, which is a very cheap HTC phone with a plastic screen. I have had it for almost 2 years and have kept it in pretty good condition. I have 1 ding from accidentally placing it in the same pocket as my keys, and some major scratches when I had the genus idea of putting it in a ziplock bag when I went to Seaworld (well it did stay dry).
This is the most expensive phone I will have ever owned with only an very old world PDA being the most expensive mobile device. My wife is not exactly happy with me for spending this kind of money, and just seeing phones for calling people. As such, I am trying to make sure she cannot point a finger at a precaution I did not take: in addition to my own paranoia from reading the "I am having problems" forum on Google's site.
So, from the view point of people who have had other devices like this, am I being too worried or do these sound like reasonable precautions for this kind of device?
The information on these forums have been wonderful. Thanks for all the help!
I'm not sure what skin the last poster has used that yellowed, but I've used InvisibleSHIELD and Clear Protector, and they were still crystal clear after almost a year.

I have looked at these, but did not see this one. How stiff is the case? The leather looks pliable, and I want to prevent any bending of the phone.
I was looking at the flip open ones, but those seem too bulky. Also many of the pictures of these seem to have the phone photoshopped in, which makes me nervious. Hate the white thread too, but I could deal with that.
As for the invisible shield skins, did you have them actually tint the phone, or just - when applied - appear to be yellow? I have seen many reviews of these even over months of time and never heard this mentioned. Although I would be nervous about it permanently tinting the phone, if it just appears yellow when on then its worth a try since they can be removed. I know they are a pain to install, but I hate static protectors and really want something on the screen.
Thanks, fujitsupalm.
I saw your post in another thread. I think I might be leaning toward the flip on you posted pics of. How bulky is that? Does it interfer with the use of the screen?
I will probably get the flip or book version (wish it would let me post links), and get an invisible shield for the screen. It is humid here too, so I might have the same issue. However, if I can just remove it then its worth a shot.
The case is fine, if you are into that kinda thing.
I come from a Galaxy Note so like a flip cover and after a couple of days the cover is fine staying closed.
Not had any flash bleed from my pink phone that others have experienced.
I am actually gonna swith to a bumper case for my main use though as I use a magnetic doc and it doesn't work with that
(having said that.. it is easy enough to get in and out of the case to not irk me)
Doesn't feel like it will slip out of the case at all
Photos attached (hopefully.. my first photo upload!)
Thanks for uploading these photos, I have one on order

I had this case. Untill i had issues with the screen. Issues like lockscreen freezing and notification bar tripping and locking as well. Obviously I can't really prove it's because of the case, but when I removed the case, those issues no longer occured. Just a warning. I think it's because of the creditcard-area, thats a little thick.
If someone could confirm this? I hope not ofcourse. But it's really hard to say it was not because of the case, because the only time I had those issues was when the case was on.

Yes.
Same Issues.
Don't have any of these issues. Also have the carbon patterned one. I have mixed feeling about the case. Really dislike it's incompatible with either the DK31/32 dock from Sony (it claims to be an official Sony approved case), and secondly the cover flap has to much freedom of moving when closed, makes it look quite cheap. Still on the lookout for a flipcover case that will fit in the dock.
I have this case - it's the worst case I've had for any phone..... Have issues with my music skipping when the phone is in my pocket, pretty sure it's the case.
It's incredible that Roxfit are actually the OFFICIAL accessory provider for Sony Xperia phones....
My Case_Mate Barely-There case is on order and due to arrive end of the month. I've had the Case_Mate Barely-There for every phone I've owned, and it has never let me down.....

ohmigod...
this has happened to me too!
I thought this was related to the other screen issue some have had and it would never have occurred to the that the case would cause this,
(also.. it didn't happen until recently... hmm.. i did recently use the card holder in the flap.. but not sure if that was the start point of the touchscreen issues)
i have now switched over to the Krusell Frostcover (just yesterday),.. so i am intrigued if the issues occur now (normally the issues happen a couple of times a day).. will respond back tomorrow
btw.. loving the frostcover!
damn.. this is a shame.. I like the Roxfit case up til this point (i really do like book covers for mobiles, just becuase i am so nevous about the screen).. but do agree with many of the complaints listed by others in this thread (i just don;t find them that bad)

My mate at work says said the same about the one he got for his Z1, his main issue was having to flip it open every time, which is why I could never own this style of case and he's stopped using his now.
I have a you tube channel called Geekynerddad and I have done a few videos on some different cases for the Note 4, links will be below. Some from Samsung, some from UAG and some from Verus...there is super protective to minimal and some folio style.

Hey, just bought the UAG folio case... Don't know if you're having this issue or not but, on mine at least, the magnets on the back side of the case that are meant to hold the flap closed actually create a dead spot for the S-Pen along the right hand side. Do you mind testing yours? I'm curious to know if it's a universal problem before I complain at them a bit. Thanks.

Can't really speak for the uag but it's a very common issue with magnetic closing cases to mess up the S pen.

Guess it makes sense... Bummer tho because it's a pretty good case otherwise.

Yeah I was considering one but was worried about magnetic interference. Their customer service is normally really good though, please keep us updated on the outcome of your complaint. Since they probably just copied the concept from their iPhone line they may not even be aware of the pen issue. Who knows they might even redesign it.
I currently have the original flip case by samsung, which I like quite a bit but im a bit bored with it. Is there any other brand flip case that supports the wake up and special edge features, but that also has a built in stand? Maybe more color options? Maybe epically cool looking like the UAG flip covers for the note 4?

I'm going to get that one. Not sure if it has the built in magnet. Checked through the reviews, nobody seems to mention whether it DOES, or DOESNT unlock the device upon opening. I assume that means it works as expected. However the folio "kickstand" feature is more important to me than automatically unlocking. Gravity Screen can remedy that. I'll post back here when it comes in though if you prefer someone to verify.
:3
It seems that it protects the phone against drops. Thats a lot more then the OEM Samsung does

I would appreciate if you post back when you do know. I actually really like the quality build of my samsung flip case. I probably wouldnt have any complaints if it had color choices and a built in stand.
Have you ever dropped it with the Samsung case?
Yes, just twice. Nothing happened
a friend had a non oem magnet flip case and the magnet damaged the screen over its overlap. don't be fooled... very common with non-OEM magnet cases; it was a big problem with the Note 3. Keep an eye on your screen.... just saying.......
Thanks for the warning. Verus makes the one posted. Every Edge case they make is highly rated, so I has faith. Is on the way, so I'll let you know soon.
UPDATE: Damn.

It's too late to cancel. Honestly I find the built in stand feature more useful than the auto shutoff. Screebl or Gravity Screen will do the job for me. I guess on days when I wont be working/playing on my phone I'll use the Samsung case to minimize screen time/eliminate need for sensors to be on. Can never have too many cases, right?
Just got mine today. Very nice materials. Very pleased.
What's the general consensus around here about using wallet-style cases with strong magnets in them to keep the case closed?
Is this going to do harm to a new phone? (Specifically an Oppo Find X3 Pro)? Of course it is going to make the compass not work whilst in the case, but does that matter? And will the phone be OK once removed from the case?
I've never liked the idea of a strong magnet next to a £1,000 device, but it seems pretty much all the wallet cases have these in them, so I don't seem to have any choice if that's the style of case I want.
Or should I just avoid that style of case altogether?
Many if not most of the magnetic phone cases are made by third-party suppliers, so you have to be careful when making a purchase.

Thanks for your reply but I really don't know what that means in practice. How can I be "careful"?
