[Q] Service management (google maps)

I found that removing Google Maps has made battery life much much better but am sad that I don't have the app for when I actually want to use it. Is there any way to force the service to never run unless I have the app open?

The app doesn't use a noticeable amount of battery life for me.
Do you have GPS enabled in "Location" settings ? Also, go to Map app's settings and uncheck "report from this device" under it's "Location settings". See if that helps. I keep the network and wifi location reporting on, it doesn't seem to use much/any battery for me. I only turn GPS on when I am actually using it as such (like when I used the Navigation today).

I have turned off all location settings. For some reason it still sucks a massive amount of my battery. With maps installed my battery dies in 6 hours with very little usage. The last two days without it I've managed to make it 13 hours and still be at 50% by the time I plug it in at home. It took a ton of narrowing down the problem but maps is definitely it.
I'm running AOKP on my Galaxy S3 with the latest 4.1.2 gapps installed. Not sure if the rom would have anything to do with the way maps operates though.
Edit: I also have GPS turned off at all times until the app is running (tasker turns it on when I open certain apps).

[Q] Battery drain issue on Cyanogenmod 11

Hello guys
I recently installed Cyanogenmod 11 on my Xperia L and I noticed that the battery drains very fast compared to stock. I searched this problem and it appears to be a deep sleep issue, but i don't really found out how to solve it. My battery stats show a great consumption on Google Play services and Display, so I guess it fits the deep sleep problem. I tried disabling some services, but i don't really know which one since i am kinda noob at this.
If anybody could provide a clear and detailed solution, that would be great. Thank you.

Use the greenify app from playstore

I don't think that would solve much. I installed better battery stats and these are the ones causing battery drain:
Awake
Wifi On
Wifi Running
No Data Connection
No or unknown signal
All these have 100% at battery consumption. Greenify only allows me to put to hibernation apps like Facebook, Messenger or so.
So... any other ideas?

expand battery life on Moto X Play 5.1.1

Hi there,
i was playing around now for some time to expand my battery life in our phone. Maybe some of you know this but i wanted to share my experience which helped me a lot with battery issues.
My main problem was the short standby time. Taking a look into the battery statistics always says my main battery drainers where external applications und the google (play) services. Taking a little more deeper looks says that my main battery drain seemed to be caused in the 'Mobilfunkschnittstelle aktiv' (mobile radio interface active?) entry. I had values of multiple hours here beeing active.
I usually disable the location services because i dont need them. Which can be different for you, of course. Also i usually play around with BetterBatteryStats and Autostarts app for analyzing and disabling various services. This time i skipped this and went across a xposed module in the web.
So, the simple trick for me was to flash xposed with twrp (root needed of course) and install the xposed MobileRadioActiveFix module.
After fixing this i now have a 4 days run time with at least 6 accounts syncing and a weather app and so forth. I didnt have that before on any other device. By the way: i'm not using my phone very often and i don't wont to say: 'i have the biggest', don't want to compete but only suggest giving it a try if you suffer from low standby time.

A little PS: some other good xposed modules i'd like to suggest:
- GEL settings: to edit google launcher, eg. removing the google search bar and the homescreen grid

I am on lollipop and I had tried this module a while back it didn't work.
and are you on mobile data or WiFi ???... because with mobile data on ..radio active shows on my battery stats.
what is your SOT now ???

Usually i am on mobile data. And of course there is still some time on radio active in the stats but its way less then before. My first entry in the battery stats where 'google (play) service' with 15% or more. Second was a 'mail client' with 12% and other external apps. This all went better after installing the xposed fix. My first entry now is 'mobile standby'
My SOT is something around 5 hours. Please, dont forget: i really not using my phone very often. My main goal was extending the standby time.
My experience with other devices: depending on the quality of your signal strength your battery can vary heavily. But i guess, thats something you already know. I, btw. have a good 4g signal here.

well cheers, we have the same goal. i used amplify+greenify then i uninstalled exposed and started testing how long i could extend battery on stock and doze+greenify. i have removed maximum google apps and i am constantly getting 1+hour of SOT for every 10% battery. i am on dual sim[one of it is roaming] and i am on mobile data. now i am gonna give exposed another shot, hope radiofix works this time.
'Mobile standby' is a problem i have tried to fix it many times but failed, it eats battery when i am on data which is always, if you find a solution please post it here.
you could disable background data for play services to squeeze more juice out of your battery and about mail app drain i suggest you take a look at F-Droid it's a collection of open source softwares.

But most have already updated to MM. If it works then it's a good thing.

I found that disabling background data for affect apps seemed to help on 5.1, but this limits device experience.
I'm on MM now and usually get all day stand by and about 5 to 6 hours SOT. Today I have 5 hours of voice calls and 2 of SOT and am at 40% battery which isn't bad. Off charge at 5:30 am and it is currently 8:30pm. That's excellent for me. MM is a great update for battery on these phones.
Edit: I meant to say as well that the 5 hours of voice was over a Bluetooth headset. Pretty busy day

[Fixed] Battery issues with 5.1.9

I've got the OP6 since release and haven't had any battery issues until i upgraded to 5.1.9. prior to 5.1.9 I used to get a 1-3% drop overnight. Post 5.1.9 I get about 1-2% per hour of stand-by. The drain is not so high like I have a misbehaving app, my phone sleeps ok with the occasional wake-ups to get notifications. I was just very happy with the SOT and stand-by times i was getting before i upgraded to 5.1.9 and just trying to get back to it.
Also it seems like i'm getting a little bit higher drain from google play services that before, it always shows up third on my battery stats list and before the update it used to be beyond the 8-10th place.
-Already cleared cache from recovery before this battery cycle (Beginning of previous cycle).
-Already cleared google play services Data before the start of this cycle (Beginning of previous cycle).
-Already cleared google app Data before the start of this cycle (Beginning of previous cycle).
-Already cleared app cache before the start of this cycle (Beginning of previous cycle).
-Scanning off, GPS battery saving, overnight data was on 4G not Wifi, advanced (aggressive) optimization on, all apps are being battery optimized.
I've read most related threads and haven't found anything that helped, What should I do?
Also I read on a thread that turning off Android system background process helps, is it safe to do that?
Update:
So I think I found a fix somehow.
-Clear data for all Google play stuff (service, store, games, Google app). Then restart.
- reset network settings.
- Also I traveled to another country and not using dual SIM as I was and only on one SIM now with LTE.
- stopped using maildroid and used Gmail for work email. It's the app I suspected to mess with my standby drain.
- Also I have found an anomaly with Google photos. There are three settings to back-up Google photos and all three do not talk to each other:
1- Within the app itself. Google photos> settings> backup & sync
2- Phone options> Google> Google photos backup
This one doesn't appear all the time, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not! Haven't figured out why it sometimes show and sometimes not though, but last time it showed I made sure it's off)
3- Accounts> Google > Google photos backup
(Screenshots below)
All the above three options don't talk to each other at all. so if you have it turned off within the app and the Google settings menu it can still be on within the accounts menu.
I think that causes sync issues which leads to battery drain specially in standby.
My current setup that do not drain battery is as follows:
1- Google photos> settings> backup & sync (ON)
2- Phone options> Google> Google photos backup (OFF)
3- Accounts> Google > Google photos backup (OFF)
I get my photos synced on wifi without issues and no extra battery drain.
When I found out thy don't talk to each other and turned them all on (specially the one in the Google settings menu) I started getting extra battery drain and Google play services showed up persistently in my top three battery usage items. Screenshots in comments.
Standby drain is now back at 2-3% overnight.

Heres some of the things I do to maximize battery,
Every one is different though,but these work for me
Use dark theme always
Don't use aggressive doze
Don't optimize apps that you really need notifications from
Turn off Bluetooth,location
Use nova launcher with dark theme
Low to medium brightness,no auto brightness
Clear cache from cached data in storage regularly
Occasionally do deep clear from advanced
Don't use face unlock
Turn off unused gestures,
Just some tips,but I do get small battery drain at night anyway, I don't think you should worry about it

Just a recommendation I got before from users on OnePlus forums, the concensous generally there is to just use normal optimization.It does seem to drain less

I've been using advanced optimization since I got the phone and was getting very good results up until my aforementioned problem. Will give it a shot.

settings/wifi/wifi preferences/advance
check for keepwifi on during sleep...put never
check network notification...switch off
i hope this works

All OP6 users got standby draining. Annoying asf.

Just a note, clearing cache in recovery does nothing. This phone doesn't have a cache partition.

Try restoring network settings.
*Settings, backup and reset, network settings reset*
This helped me when I was on Samsung s7-e when I had some strange drains from an update.
I have no issues with my device on 5.1.9

You are right 100%..this is obviusly semi product..i fight with their support team, already change with them more than 30 mails, they just ask screen shoots for this ss for that...they should give money back, in my hand phone go crazy just like that loose overnight 36% with everiting off. Sometimes during day too. I have this problems since i get OP6, 4 weeks ago.

I was using the same settings since I bought OnePlus (OOS 5.1.3) and I had an amazing battery life on OOS 5.1.5, but since 5.1.8 also 5.1.9, battery life sux. It is a problem with the software. In their opinion I should turn off all the features, even take out the sim card, maybe I should turn off the phone to save battery...

Feels bad man. The Chinese Oxygen version did fix the battery drain issue on 5.1.10. So we can expect it to.
Or you downgrade to before 5.1.8 and update when 5.1.10 is out.
Or you just wait. Don't do these 'battery optimization'. Not needed when the OS is the problem. And not your personal usage.

So I think I found a fix somehow.

Weird thing is that I do not have the backup options under the phone settings under google or under account.
The only place it shows to backup photos is within the google photos app itself

Updated to 8.1, having issues

I just got the 8.1 Oreo update for my LG Q6 (LG-M700 model) and I am having so troubling issues. My biggest problem is battery usage. Google Play Services is by far highest battery user and I have noticed that when I restart the phone, the app is not excluded from the Power Saving Exclusions list, but after a short while, it switches to "Excluded" on its own and starts eating up the battery like crazy and it does not even show up in the list so I can turn the exclusion off. With Nougat I did not have these problems and battery life was ok.
Another issue is that the status bar icons and home buttons are very faded out, same with the on screen keyboard. I don't know if it's just a new look for Android or some hidden setting messing up.

Revert back to 7.1. I'm having issues with the update even if I factory reset to 8.1 still issues.

I've installed the latest beta Google Play Services, and battery drain has improved somewhat, still testing though.

the status bar and nav bar icons fading out is a new thing in 8.1 personally i like it but that's my opinion and battery life for me has been the same as nougat

After some more testing, I found that with the new Google Play Services, battery drain in standby is great, superb even, but under actual use is still terrible (every time I glance at the battery, it just dropped another percent, and that's just by browsing with Chrome). Does anyone know the proper settings for Google Play Services regrading permissions and such? What can I turn off? What has to remain on? That kind of stuff.

As far as I know the only permissions that don't have to be on are maybe camera or calendar

Well, in my case I have Calendar, Contacts, Phone, SMS and Storage permissions on, "Draw over other apps" is Yes, "Modify system settings" and "Pictrue-in-picture" is No.

Draw over other apps stays on so does modify system settings
