I went to the cricket store today and I am thinking of switching to cricket from Tmobile since cricket now uses AT&Ts network. and Tmobile sux! in my area at least. the ONLY thing keeping from making the immediate switch is the salesperson telling me Hotspots are not supported by their plans. I looked in their phone settings and they removed the hotspot option in the settings as well.
So my question is, anyone have a cricket phone with one of their NEW plans (GSM phone) and rooted it, to get the hotspot back, and does it work? is cricket able to tell and shut it down? I'm just wondering if its only a software thing that they removed the hotspot in the OS or if it has some sort of network detection to shut off Hotspots.
Thanks all!
is bumping allowed? lol
Just bought an LG G2 4.4.2 for T-Mobile but I activated it with MetroPCS. I have unlimited 4G internet with them. When I go to use the "Mobile Hotspot" in settings, it gives an error stating: "Your current rate plan does not support sharing your phone's data connection.", a T-Mobile error message that I need to upgrade my plan, well I don't have T-mobile so that's not going to happen. Is there a work around? Besides rooting and using a 3rd party app. Thanks.
Not without rooting. You shouldn't expect a carrier phone to have provision for tethering with otther carriers.
Anyone know how to get wifi tether working? I have crickets unlimited data plan. I'm trying to tether my laptop..
Yes, follow these steps to start Wifi Hotspot/Tether:
Go to Settings > More > Tethering & portable hotspot
Select Portable Wi-Fi hotspot
Toggle the button beside your host name.
By this you'll get your hotspot on.
I hope this helps you.
This doesn't work. Says I have to dial 611 to activate..

I am pretty sure that Cricket doesn't include tethering with their monthly plans.
So I would have to do it the root way then.

It's doing the carrier entitlement check. I can tether with another overseas phone out of the box on Cricket UDP. In fact I tried before typing this just in case there was a recent change
Thanks for checking this, that's a dealbreaker for me.

It's only avail on their Pro and Smart plans, and I think only supported on a few phones that they publish.
Cricket does include tethering on their plans just not on their unlimited. If you have the $50 or $60 plan you are eligible. But you also have to pay $10 to use the feature. They state that on their site.

And the idea here is to have a phone that bypasses the carrier tethering check. I'm really surprised that it's on the H 8.

I actually thought it would do it automatically like my OnePlus one. Seems that's not the case..

I had to set the APN Type to
default,dun
to get hotspot to work. I'm using FreedomPop Global GSM.
Anyone bypassed the tethering on att, I am starting to hate this freaking phone telling me to call 611 for another tethering plan, I should have keep the OnePlus 3t
Honor 8 Cricket WiFi Tether Fix - No Root
I have a brand new unrooted Honor 8 (with all the latest updates) and I was able to turn on tethering however connected devices were not getting internet. The devices would connect to the tethering WiFi access point but would state "No internet".
I added the string: 'dun' to the 'APN type' field in my APN settings so it read:
APN type default,mms,fota,hipri,supl,dun
I am now able to tether successfully without issue.
Anyone able to check if Verizon reports hotspot usage counting against their "hotspot limit"? On my Moto G4, the build in hotspot feature does not seem to trigger Verizon to count it against tethering allotment. I'm curious if the Verizon or unlocked version of the Pixel 2 make a difference.
Hoping some users here can report their hotspot experience with the new Pixel.
I scoured the internet for the last few hours trying to determine if there is still a way to use an app, or some other method to essentially hotspot my phone, without a hotspot plan. My phone is network unlocked from OnePlus directly, and I have unlimited everything (not even cap throttling) through US Mobile, but they changed their hotspot services (afaik) after they moved to "WARP 5G." Last year I switched to them from Google Fi SPECIFICALLY because of the hotspot capability, and I don't want to start paying for it now, especially considering the Warp 5G capability is on their SUPER LTE (Verizon) specific sim, while I can only use their GSM (T-Mobile) sim.
I digress. Is there an app or ROM/Root method that will let me share my phones data with say, an iPad, or other phone? PDAnet and Foxfi only repeat whatever Wi-Fi signal my phone is connected to, and this is not what I'm looking for. (Woe 2012 3g pdanet)
Edit: it appears im a fool and just didnt figure out how to tether via BT to an ipad. In the mean time, if any of you have some decent ideas, im still all ears for if/when i need a back up plan
