[Completed] CM13 + CWM + Gapps = Brick

Ok. I have a Samsung S4 mini. Yesterday I installed CM13. Dumb thing to do.
It was an automatic update from CMUpdater, so not through the Recovery menu.
For my surprise, I noticed that this update also updated the ClockWorkMod Recovery to the latest version available.
The CM13 installation went well actually .The phone booted fine. Then of course I needed the new Gapps installed. I downloaded the correct Gapps. Boot into CWM recovery. Choose the Gapps ZIP file. And... Error! I went back to phone to enable root acess (ADB & Apps), and enabled USB debugging also. And...Error! No way to install Gapps with CWM recovery.
After some search I realize that the new Gapps for CM13 is somehow not compatible with the CWM recovery that was instaled. So I downloaded ROM MANAGER to change the recovery to TWRP, which everybody said would perfectly flash the Gapps smoothly. Nothing happened. No TWPR. Only CWM still on. Then I downloaded Flashify and went back and forth on installing and unistalling TWPR and CWM. On and On.
Conclusion: somewhere along the process not only I couldnĀ“t install TWRP recovery, but also have wrecked the CWM recovery. Now, no matter what I do, I cannot enter recovery mode at all, hence i cannot neither install Gapps or Reinstall another ROM to "start from scratch"....
I can boot the phone normally.
I can boot into donwload mode normally.
I tried installing TWRP .tar with ODIN3 but it keeps saying "cant open USB port", so it fails.
I have also installed KIES. It sucessfully install drivers, but fails to connect with my device.
Is there anyway to install a Recovery or a fresh new ROM without having to boot recovery?!
Some help? Please.
Hello,
Welcome to XDA.
Do you have USB debugging enabled in system settings to allow flashing via Odin? You may not even need to use Odin.

Oneplus one(bacon) boot and recovery partition crashed. Can fastboot. phone brick

I have unlocked the boot loader on oneplus one long back. I tried to upgrade my rom to Resurrection Remix 7.1.1
I successfully upgraded the ROM and also flashed SuperSu in it. I wanted to flash the Opengaps Aroma 7.1 and that is where I ran into issue because of my stupidity.
I found from GitHub that there were some issues with twrp versions to run the aroma installer thus I tried multiple TWRP versions via (Google play - official TWRP recovery app) by downloading them and flashing it to recovery.
I have taken the full nandroid backup but unfortunately didn't keep it on external devices. So it was in the phone itself.
Now the issue -
When I tried flashing TWRP 3.0.2.0 from existing 2.8.4.1 I tried to run the Aroma but it didn't work. Then I tried to flash the recovery with TWRP 2.8.6.1 but Aroma failed again.
However, on the GitHub there was a info stating that known working TWRP recovery on Oneplus one is of TWRP 2.8.4.1
I tried to flash that into recovery and flash the Aroma, but it didn't boot into recovery with that image. Later I restarted the phone, and again flashed the latest recovery version 3.0.2.0
From here I ran into issue. When tried again to flash the Aroma, it didn't work. So I booted recovery again and in that I selected the recovery version 2.8.4.0 for both recovery and boot partition.
After that, phone is neither booting the system nor into recovery. I don't want to loose my data (which is in phone backup) and neither want to try Aroma again. (Even if all the 900mb data needs to be deleted.).
Can the XDA members confirm can I reinstall recovery working image (2.8.4.1) once again through the adb flash recovery <image>. And boot into recovery mode so that I can delete the boot partition once again and reinstall the ROM and data ?
I tried doing that once but one of the laptops which I had access didn't recognize the adb devices. May be the driver was not working for Win10 OS. However, on my personal laptop earlier I was able to run adb commands through CMD prompt. Currently, I don't have personal laptop and may get it by next week.
Can anybody please share me the links of working android driver so that I can install them on current laptop and then try adb commands from SDK to connect my phone.
Any suggestion from members would be of great help.
Note: Please don't suggest the methods to factory reset or lock bootloader to factory settings. As I don't want to loose all my contacts and data.
If there is a way to get just recovery working on the phone, it would be of great help. So that I can wipe other partitions and rebuild it again.
Thank You.

Root

I tried flashing magisk via twrp but everytime it used to stuck at flashing boot image for hours ..then I manually flashed the patched boot image of magisk....it showed me success but no root was there... after that I flashed my original boot IMG and then tried flashing SuperSU with twrp but this time too same case stucked at flashing boot image .and no further improvement
Note I am on viper os ROM and have tried to root with both f2fs and ext4 but no results... pls help
I don't use this ROM at my phone, but as you can see in this Video from "Tio Hetfield"
the root method from LineageOS does also work.
Simply download the suitable file for your Phone and flash it.
https://download.lineageos.org/extras
If your Rom is based on Android 7.1 download the file for LineageOS 14.1 the processor architecture of the Lenovo P2 is "arm64"
To activate root after flashing unlock the Developer settings and activate root in the new menu entry.
This is only for root access, not the magisk framework
Repair system partition and also ensure data it ext4. This fixed it for me.

Click to collapse
I had the same problem, but found a solution!!!
I restarted the Phone by pressing the power button for 20 or so seconds.
Then again thanged into TWRP Recovery mode and there I installed the new beta SuperSU file SR1-SuperSU-v2.82-SR1-20170608224931.zip
That one just worked!

[Q] Kind of bricked tablet but works oO : no gapps and restricted by Family Link

Hi,
[first post here]
I just flashed Omnirom 7.1 on a Nexus 10 because it was lagging with Omnirom 6.1 using the TWRP recovery that was present.
[NOTE : I don't think the ROM or the tablet are relevant to my issues]
I made a mistake and tried to flash the nano gapps (instead of pico) and it failed. I thought I'll do that later, wiped cache and rebooted.
It rebooted OK. The system works much better.
Unfortunately, the tablet is supervised by Family Link (and I did not allow my son to get into developper mode).
Now are the issues...
I'm no longer root (as I can not enter any parental code) and I can not enter developer mode (forbidden by Family link), so no USB debugging.
Family Link app crashes (I guess because of gapps is not installed properly).
Recovery got dead in the process (no more TWRP recovery or any recovery).
Bootloader is 'waiting for download' only (download what ?).
I have the official TWRP app and sometimes I can run it without crash but as the user is not root (the system is rooted, though) it seems like a dead end.
I have a Termux app but, again, it does not run as root so I can not edit the system file that would enable me to flash a new recovery...
I tried to activate adb over TCIP on the tablet but it needs 'UDB debugging enabled' oO.
I understand that I made a few mistakes (gapps, not allowing to enter developper mode in Family Link,...)...
If someone has an idea to allow me to flash anything (ROM, TWRP, gapps,...), I'd be quite grateful... as I feel I now have a soft brick...
Thanks,
Z
have you tried flashing a custom rom or a stock rom trough odin?
Thanks for taking the time to answer.
Since my post, I've read that, in bootloader mode, the device does not need to be 'USB debugging enabled' (that's a relief).
With the device in bootloader mode ('Downloading' and no choice other than 'start'), I'm now trying various tools (adb/fastboot/Nexus Root Toolkit, but not Odin yet) to flash something and I suspect that I don't have the correct USB drivers for it. My PC does detect the USB device but the flashing tools don't (yet).
At least, I now have a lead I can follow...
Thanks for your help and sugestion.
I'll report back when I get something interesting...
Hi Again,
I managed to flash TWRP via Odin... Pretty straightforward tool (despite a cryptic interface)... Thanks a lot for suggesting it.
I was then able to get into TWRP (from the boatloader, that proposes other options than just 'start')...
I then flashed the gapps. The tablet rebooted during the flashing (?)...
I'll have another try... There's hope !
Thanks again !
Hi,
I retried flashing gapps thru TWRP and it now works...
Thanks

Question TWRP LOOP stuck Poco x 3 pro

Hello everyone sorry i'm new here and also i don't know much about rooting my device Poco X 3 pro MIUI 13.0.3 Global and Andriod 12 .. sadly i messed up i had my boatloader unlocked fo my Poco x3 pro and i have installed custom recovery TWRP then i tried to install Magisk via the TWRP recovery but it won't work mainly because the data is encrypted and the TWRP can't acess in the internal storage so i used a OTG usb but gets error unable to mount /data/media/fox/.fox note that i tried both Orangefox and twrp still same error i assume its because the device is encrypted . also decrypt doesnt work it ask for password and i even removed all my accounts and disabled all lock screen but still not working at this point i thought that downgrading from MIUI 13 to 12 will fix this since i saw all videos who had it working used MIUI 12 and here where i messed up i used XiaoMiTool V2 then clicked custom ROM and used an offecial ROM from Xiaomi website ( miui_VAYUGlobal_V12.0.6.0.RJUMIXM_eccd7da42b_11.0.zip ) the phone booted into TWRP and started installing but ofcourse got the error first unable to mount /data/media/twrp then the process continued installing all the files then phone rebooted into TWRP LOOP now im stuck into TWRP and the USB debugging is turned off now as the phone appearntly did factory reset so i cant acess XiaoMiTool V2 again and when i try to wipe data from TWRP it says unable to wipe data ... please help im stuck on TWRP loop now
**UPDATE** i tried fastboot ROM using MiFlash tool but i get error since i'm stuck on twrp fastboot menue but after few restart it finally open the normal fastboot menue with the logo of the sitting rabbit which indecade this is miui 12 tried again to fash though Mifash tool and it worked (flashing the same version miui_VAYUGlobal_V12.0.6.0.RJUMIXM_eccd7da42b_11.0.zip but this time the fastboot version not the recovery one took few minutes then got error not catch checkpoint flash is not done then it reboot into the phone menue where i can click wipe data i click that and the phone (thankfully) opened into MIUI 12 LOGO screen
... theres an easier way to actually downgrade your MIUI using a trick through your phone only without root or pc or anything by changing the ROM file name before you click reboot wish i used that since its safer and official
omg finally Magisk installed successfully now didnt need to decrypt anything
now my last question is do i need custom ROM after rooting the device ? or does magisk mean its a custom root ? sorry first time rooting and i dont know if i need to install any apps or apply any setting or should i click update my MIUI now ?
Try the newest Unofficial TWRP from nebrassy (found in his thread here on XDA)
That supports decription.
I recommend arrowOS as custom ROM.
It's one of the oldest and works pretty well.
IMHO Stock ROM from Xiaomi is untrustworthy. Who knows what spyware they included.
Same for me now I have a question first I need a guide link how to install arrowOS or any better ROM also if I do that do I need to flash Magisk again or the device will be keep the Root ?
@Haldi4803 can you post the link of the TWRP as well ? There's many threads by nebrassy and they all seem old mine is the latest official and it doesn't work on miui 13 , I also heard of crdroid and derpfest ROMs for Poco x3 pro but I think they overheat much ? I didn't test so I'm just asking also what's the way to install a new ROM it seem little bit complicated but the ArrowOs thread doesn't explain all the steps in detail because I think it's for pro users I read on Google that there's way more steps to install a ROM

After you have installed a ROM. and gapps you can simply reboot and use the rom.
Whenever you need root you can reboot into recovery and install magisk.
