Is there a way (an app?) to separate the ring volume from the notification volume? I want it to ring loud (so I hear it in my pocket) but I don't want notifications to be loud (as they are irritating).
Cheers
Alan
There's an app called 'Sound profile' which seems to be able to do this. I'm testing it out.
Alan
Use Renovate Ice ROM if you're rooted. It's a Magisk Module
I'm not rooted and cannot as my banking apps won't work if I do.
Sound profile app doesn't separate the ring from the notification volume for me. Tad frustrating but sure there will be a solution somewhere

What version of Android and which country is your phone from? I'm on the latest (11.0.6.6 and it's a UK (EU) phone).

update: i figured it out. notifications are tied to media volume, not notification volume. the temp work around I have is (using Quick Settings) check the box that links Ringer volume for notifications.

Been there done that. Doesn't fix it. Still atleast 50% of the iPhone's volume.
Hi,
I bought a Sony Xperia J for my wife, all is fine, but it's pretty annoying to have no separate control
for the volume between call tone and message tone.
The ring tone is fine, but the message tone has the same volume and it's pretty loud.
Is there a way to separate the volume control for both somehow?
Thanks in advance

Go to settings/sound/ volumes there should be a checked box (link notifacation & ring tone) uncheck it.

Thanks for answering
If I do that, I have no longer control for the volume at all...
Maybe the android versions are different.
..just for info, the version of Android is 4.0.4..
The setings do not allow to separate the 2 volumes level.. that's a bad design.
apk?

Search for an app for...
Profile Management
Well, I tried 3 "apps to control volume", none of then worked, even if they had
1 option for ring tone, and 1 option for notifications/message".
It seems that Android, does not allow any app to separate the 2 sounds.
As soon as I changed the "notifications/message" volume, the ring tone for calls
changed too.
I will try "profile management" apps, but I doubt it will help.
The profile manager app did not help either.
Still ring tone and message tone at same level.. same for Gmail, FB and all other apps tone... for incoming messages
U need to use cm10 to tweak ur profile.

I am stock rooted on my Nexus 5 and have been using the app Silence for silencing notifications during the night. I was missing calls because of the notification and phone volumes being linked, so I recently installed the GravityBox module for Xposed to separate them. After installing it and setting Silence to use individual volumes, the Silence app does not reliably work anymore. Sometimes it seems as though it just doesn't work at all. Other times, the volume slider displays change, but the actual volume is out of sync with the display until I reboot.
I am looking for a replacement app to handle the silencing functionality. GravityBox has a "Quiet Hours" setting that works similarly to the CM11 setting by the same name, but it is a premium feature that I do not have access to. If anyone is using GravityBox to separate volume controls and has a notification silencing app that is working well for you, I would appreciate any suggestions. If anyone is using GravityBox for QuietHours and can verify that it is reliable, that would also be very helpful. I'm considering the unlocker, but at the moment I am using it for exactly one feature, which is to separate the volumes, so it seems a bit silly to spend $4 on it.
Thanks!

If you aren't against a custom ROM, SlimKat (the 6.3 weekly) has a good quiet hours setup. Have a look.
Searched here and on google and found nothing helpful to my particular problem. I am currently on a TeamEOS 4.4.4 ROM (7-11-14 nightly) and also had this problem on Cyanogen 10.2.1. I have my default ringtone set to silent because I work nights and get a lot of calls but there are very few people who I want to be able to wake me up, those people all have a ringtone set in the contacts section. None of them ring more than once. It's once, then silence, it doesn't go to voicemail after that - the rings on the caller's end are normal, and the phone continues to act like it is ringing with the little animation and it vibrates, it just doesn't make a noise. With the default ringtone set to a ring it rings as it should. What is the deal with this? Note: They aren't custom ringtones, they're stock with this ROM, custom ringtones that functioned as they should before I rooted function incorrectly now, so it is not the files themselves. Fresh install/reset does not help.
Are you having this issue on sense? Also, double check volume controls. They aren't consolidated so maybe the ringer specific control is off

It's with sense or whatever manages notifications in the ROM, I haven't used an addon app. I checked and it's certainly not the volume controls.
Well then try an RUU. I've never heard of anything like this
Ages later and with a newer ROM and it still does this. Nobody else has this problem?
In my z3 the ring volume is great , but when i receive notification like whatsapp is very low.
Anyone have this issue?!!?
Any help?

Yes it's the bigger bug of the Z3. Hope that Sony starts to investigate.....
Waiying new update
Solution
No need to wait to for an update.
1. Go to settings - sound - system notification sound: select no sound. Do the same with whatsapp settings.
2. Install lightflow. Go to lightflow notification settings, select and activate individual notification sounds for whatsapp, whatsapp groups, gmail, messages etc.
3. Go to lightflow volume settings, activate individual lightflow notification sounds and adjust their volume as needed.
4. Sorted!

Really? I was able to get a notification sound that was plenty loud. As loud as my previous phone LG G2. And with the same sound.
edit: Experimenting further revieled that my success was related to the notification sound used. I am using a mp3 tune from my sd cards music library. Choose an original sound from Z3 and the sound is weak again.
I used light flow, did not hear a difference between the sound. The volume is still low
have this issue as well. hope the new version will be able to solve this problem.
Waiting sony to start rolling an update, it takes time sony why others solve their software rapidely
Same issue here. Definitely looking for a fix to this or an update as it's quite annoying to listen to the sound and hear it plenty loud only to have it be really quiet (even at full notification volume) when receiving texts or other notifications.

Same here. Hope the update isn't too far into the future. Although, it might be bundled with lollipop a couple of months from now.

Don't hold your breath on an update to address this, the Z2 has the same issue and it was never fixed by Sony. There was a sound mod though, but it required root...which may not be a possibility for some Z3s.
