Hello, I am interested in getting a Honor 8 but as a user of a Honor 6 I need to know if they fixed the bug who most annoyed me, the notifications coming up only for the stock app and the ones on the battery managment white list (Facebook, Whatsapp, gReader), I tried every possible way to activate notification for normal apps and games and always failed, I could receive them only with the app always open in the background.
Can someone confirm if games like Fate Grand Order, Granblue Phantasy or app like Amazon, Line, APKpure notify as normal on Honor 8? Without using notifications apps or keeping the app on in the BG.
Thanks to whoever helps, this is a big factor for me in the decision to buy this device.

I tried them all, it doesn't work, I just want to know if people are getting notifications on Honor 8 because the 6 is done.
My friend receives notification all the time on his honor 8, also I will reach members and ask them
Honor 8 Notifications & Pop-Ups
Hello, we appreciate your concern about the notification settings on your Honor 8 device. Please note: some setting notifications in Phone Manager is not supported for some apps. To set notifications for such an app, touch Settings > Apps, touch the app, and the touch Notifications. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to our knowledgeable Honor Customer Service Team at +1-844-524-6667 and they can assist you further. (NS)
Of course I already tried that.
For being clear, I tried everything, different party launchers, notification apps activating every setting and disabling battery optimazion, etc.
I only haven't tried to install a app as system app because it requires root and I'm not doing that or closing the huawei battery mangment app because it woul create other problems.
I just want to know if Honor 8 had the bug fixed and normal apps give notifications, like games or similar unknown/low rated apps.

What app is not getting notified?
Did you do any official update? If so, did you backup (Huawei backup), factory reset and restore?

Every app not one installed on the device from Huawei from before I got it or not a message related one.
I had problems with whatsapp notifications, after a reset is the only app I got to work fine.
Facebook, Twitter and a few other apps about messaging and high rated in the play store like gReader or Avast always worked.
I recently discovered, when searching for a solution, that Huawei created a whitelist for apps in the their battery management program and every app not listed in it could not work, I tried every possible way to get notifications and not a single one worked.
That confused me, I can't find any explanation to this

So, you got to phone management, battery, protected apps, and selected the ones you wanted to avoid stopping when screen is off.
Also in phone manager, notification centre, you select all options (could leave banners off) for the apps you wanted.
And in phone manager, app auto-launch, you turn on the option for those apps.
I know doze in MM ROMs is tricky but still it works fine. I also noticed when restoring apps from a backup sometimes notifications for those apps don't work well.
I'll repeat it again.
I've.Tried.Everything.
I have this damn thing from 2 years.
I just only want to know if apps notifications work like they should on Honor 8 and most recent Huawei device, is the only thing stopping me from getting one, if the answer is no just tell me, I will go for another brand like Sony, Vernee or Samsung, maybe even Elephone, at least stock android doesn't have this bugs.
Every app will respond differently, but to adjust notifications on your phone, follow these instructions:
To set notifications for such an app, touch Settings > Apps, touch the app, and the touch Notifications.
Note: Setting notifications in Phone Manager is not supported for some apps. You can also adjust individual apps settings by going to the specific apps settings. (NS)

Notifications work fine in H7 and H8.
I'll stop repeating how I already set every setting on and it doesn't work because it seems like is useless and everyone is repeating their advices.
Could someone with H8 list some apps with working notifications? I could try to install them on mine and verify if they are on the white list or the new devices actually work as they should and every app notify.

Dear VooXoo, I think everyone got a bit confused since you posted this on the Honor 8 page. As everyone else mentioned, the notifications are NOT A PROBLEM on Honor 8. Yes they were a problem on your device : the Honor 6 and even Honor 7, but they are not anymore.
I would like some proof, because some people say isn't a problem even on older devices.
Since updating from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on my Nexus 6P I have realized that the task manager I used no longer works. I tried many other popular and non popular task manager apps on Nougat and none of them work. They all display something like "no running apps to display."
So obviously it seems in 7.0 Google updated whatever command is needed for an app to pull the running apps from the system, and no one has updated their task manager app to work with 7.0. I was pretty shocked that in the forums no topic with "task manager" was created with in the past 6 months to talk about this.
So are others people experiencing this with task managers on Nougat? If so, have you found any task manager app that works with Nougat?
Edit: sorry if this the wrong forum to post this, but I figured it applied here since it seem to be related to new API causing these types of apps to not work. Feel free to move it if this topic fits better somewhere else. Thanks!
Why would you use third party task mangers when you already have one built in Android?

Simple! Because ever since Android 5.0 the task manager only shows the average RAM usage. It does not currently show what's running in real time. Only shows the past 3 hour, 6 hour, 12 hour, or 1 day average. It shows apps that are not even running at that very second. That information can be helpful some but not for everything.
In Android 4.4 and earlier it used to show real time what apps were running. Just like on Windows computers task manager shows real time what's running. If an app starts running, it appears on the list. if an app stops running, it disappears from the list. This is helpful for finding a rogue app on your battery, or a rogue app slowing down your phone using a Ton of RAM. It is not as easy identifying a rogue app with averages. Especially if it's an app that's not running all the time in the back ground.

It won't kill apps automatically you can use Greenify for that or you can do it manually every time after you open the app again.
There are two ways
1. Go to app info and force stop it. (recommended)
2. Go to running services and stop it from there.
Once you open the app again all service will be restarted. The first option is easy and straight forward

I know man i was just trying to make a point about still needing task killers, look what permissions greenify needs to do that now: usage access, draw over apps, accessibility permission... Horrific permisions... Android even asked for my fingerprint when giving it accessibility permission and said it needs it cause of encryption...
If that was native in Android (no background running option per app) that would be great.
Might even partially fix poor ram managment in Android...

Hi, updating here to -1. Agree with posters above, built in is a pita to use.
My old task killer was click app, click kill, job done :good:
Also really useful to quickly see what was running right now and those naughty apps that restarted themselves
Someone must have a decent easy task killer for rooted Nougat
Updating again: Advanced Task Manager free is working just not the pro version I paid for. Looks like they care more about the ads than their paying users. Ok for me anyway. Rooted phones don't have ads
In Android 7.0 Google once again has made undocumented changes and has significantly restricted access to the proc file system. This means that since this new API level it is not possible anymore to retrieve processes info. Task Managers running on devices with Android 7.0 will only show total CPU usage, their own CPU usage and memory usage, but not CPU usage for other processes. Running the app on a rooted device does not make difference. More info on File system changes in Android Nougat - Stack Overflow. Star this Android issue to push Google to implement an alternative API.

These apps are in the system partition and take space there.
Disabling them also doesn't stop them getting updated by "Galaxy Apps". I had powerpoint and word updating themselves yesterday despite the fact I have them both disabled *AND* have turned off automatic updates in Galaxy Apps! (and if that wasn't bad enough, it was using up my mobile data allowance when doing it!!).

I don't understand either. no, if I was rooted then those apps wouldn't even be on the phone! I haven't spotted it lately so it may have been a bug or something that was fixed (of course Samsung as usual can't be bothered providing proper changelogs so that we have a clue what they have done), but they don't update that often so it might also be that I just didn't see it when it was doing it.
try this one. apps will still take up place in system partition,
but I don't think they will auto update after this.

SuperFreezZ is an Android app that makes it possible to entirely freeze all background activities of an app.
Any contributions are welcome.
SuperFreezZ is not yet another task manager promising to delete 10GB of data per month or making your device 2x as fast. This is impossible. You should freeze only
apps that you do not trust (and do not want to run in background) and
apps that you use very few.
If you freeze apps that you use daily, the battery of your device will drain faster and these apps will take longer to load. You should take the name seriously: SuperFreezZ will super freeze your apps, and it is not that easy to defrost them.

What Android version are you using?
Can you send me a log excerpt (

What happens when you wait 2 minutes?
The app should run in the background and automaticly freeze pre-selected apps just like Greenify does, overwise it's not much useful to me.
Been using this app for a week and like it alot. Especially as it seems to be one of the few open source options.
Only thing I miss in this is the ability to freeze system processes or the bloatware apps coming with the phone. Many of them are possible to freeze manually, but unfortunately they dont show up in SuperFreezZ.
Then there is the problem with restarting apps. As dimqua mentioned there is a need for autofreeze.

Hello,
I am really interested in switching from Greenify to SuperFreezZ, but am not entirely clear as to what the differences between the 2 apps are (if any).
What difference is there between freezing an app and hibernating it (which is what Greenify does, right?)? Why would it be a problem to unfreeze an app once it has been frozen, and does this process differ from what Greenify does with apps that have been hibernated?

There is no difference between freezing and hibernating.
And neither SF (SuperFreezZ) nor Greenify have anything to do with unfreezing/de-hibernating, the Android system does this from itself when you start a frozen/hibernated app. It is a problem because you will have to wait some more seconds until the app is loaded and the process also consumes some energy. And it does not differ from using Greenify at all, except for the fact that the developer of Greenify doesn't warn you.
So - actually you will see what the main differences between Greenify and SF are when using them. There are almost no "hidden" differences.

I implemented both of these features, you will have to look for them in the settings though. This is because they are rather for advanced users (that is, those who have a look at the settings).

It depends. SF can completely prevent apps from running in the background.
Newer Android versions (like, Pie) let the apps run in the background fewer and fewer when they are not used, to save battery. SF can make SURE that apps do not run in the background at all. From https://gitlab.com/SuperFreezZ/SuperFreezZ:
Get back control over what runs on your phone (this did not change)
Enhance battery life and reduce mobile data usage by freezing rarely used apps (hint: the system will also let them run in the background only a little, even without SF).
Especially useful while you are on a tour, where you need only some apps but a long battery life
If you want to be really sure, you will have to test whether using SF saves battery yourself on your particular phone with your kind of using it.
Update: Apart, apps cannot use the camera or get your current location or use the device sensors while they are frozen.
Update 2: Also see https://www.xda-developers.com/superfreezz-freeze-background-apps/

First of all, thank you for this cool foss greenify alternative.
I don't think you should worry much about copying that since "am force-stop" is first result when searching "kill android app command" and the accessability thing seems like a more complicated hacky workarround. Having this as an option for rooted devices would be helpful, especially for killing apps while locking the screen as I could not get that feature to work reliably so Im left with freeze shortcut. I like this freezZer more because I find default delayed freezing the most convenient way to save some wattbytes having way more installed apps than I'd like to admit. (Seriously, why would someone need to have an app that calculates dew point? No idea but it prooved itself that one time and it's only 127kB!)
Intelligent feature could maybe be improved by logging usage and delaying freezZing more (in defined bounds) the more frequently given app is used, but this may be a hustle to implement.

Check again after a few days.... Btfery drain is always worse after a factory reset or on a new phone as Android learns your usage Patterns
I have a 10+ running on Pie.
It took me months to sort out excessive battery usage. If your phone is running warm at idle you need to track down the causes. I use PD MDM package blocker which helps a lot if used wisely. A lot of junk that needs to be disable in settins too. My nominal battery usage screen off, plain jane AOD on is 1% an hour. Surfing the web, watching a vid is about 10% an hour. Your device probably uses more though even when optimized not sure though.
In Samsung Device Care, use factory load if it is the one with 360 degrees on it. Do not update.
•In Device Care punch Optimize for power/screen setting.
•Toggle on fast charging and -nothing- else. (see image)
You can then package block this app.
•This configuration will also keep power management from unwantedly killing apps in use like Poweramp. All other unused apps should go into standby mode when not in use or screen off... without power management options being toggled!
Use no 3rd party power management and for now don't toggle any apps to sleep.
•In Developer options>stand by apps, all buckets should show as active, if not unwanted power management is active.
Let the base Google default settings handle power management. Enabling advanced power management appears to cause conflicts leading to excessive CPU/battery usage.
•Any cloud app will steal power and bandwidth, Google Backup Transport and Goggle Services Framework are prime offenders.
•Disable all carrier, Samsung, Google etc diagnostic feedback as well as carrier updates and Playstore.
Enable as needed.
•Use Samsung Gallaxy Labs Battery Tracker to help track usage.
Framework will still show usage with AOD is active about 1% @ hour when blocked. It should be well below 1% when phone is active.
I've posted more detailed info in the 10+ forum.
Each phone configuration varies so try these suggestions, what works for me may or may not work for you.
Get a package disabler and start locking it down... play with it.

Thanks for sharing your tips here.
Which app are you referring to? Is it Package Disabler Pro? Searching "PD MDM" brings up a whole load of different PD apps on the Play Store.

You're welcome.
They aren't on Playstore. You have to look a little or know about them.
Been using it for at least 3 years probably longer. Very stable. A great tool for non-rooted Samsungs.

Stopped using that paid one from Police-whatever because their lame app stopped being able to block AT&T updates.

Thanks for link. It's weird though, as the app made by Policedeveloper on the Play Store has the same UI and same name, they also use identical screenshots with an old Samsung phone model! I wonder if they are the same developer or one has copied the other.
I was using the one on the Play Store but it did break after upgrading to Android 10. I am considering buying the app you recommend but don't want to get burned again. I know its not a lot of money but I don't want to be sold a lemon!

Don't know who stole what but know I'll never use anything from Policedeveloper again. Trashware.
Didn't appreciate their lame attitude when I emailed them either.
I've used PD MDM on Kitkat and Pie. Lol, no plans to jam Q into my 10+ though; it's running stable and fast.
I was apprehensive at first too, but they have consistently given me a quality app.
If they say it's compatible you should be good to go.

In Google Play Services>app permissions, disable all to get Google Transport Framework from using excessive battery. Google Transport Framework and Google Transport are package blocked as well. The former is the last step to shut these power sucking background apks down. So far I haven't lost any functionality I use.
Took me a year to track all of these down. Ha!
Should be 94 blocked apks, may have lost some in the confusion of manipulating the list.
Some of the blocked apks I've enabled the widget toogle to turn them off/on like Playstore.
•I'm running a 10+ on Pie... no idea how the Fold on Q will respond to this list but probably similarly.
•This list is customized for my set up and circumstances; each user's needs are different.
Best practice is to formulate your own list... the hard way. That way you'll learn what the apks you're blocking do and how the apks interact/their dependencies.
