A7 is not listed as officially supported device for Dex. I read about this feature in a few software updates, but could not find a reliable report that anyone got it working.
So it might not work although it's started in the changelog.

I have used Dex on Samsung Smart TV.
You have to enable Desktop mode in Developer option, found almost to the bottom, also enable windows free form, next to "Force Desktop Mode".
No wires needed but USB OTG for mouse, keyboard or both wireless or USB HUB in the OTG.

Is there a similar interface to http://electronics.stackexchange.com/a/46918 to force charging while the device acts as a USB host?
Does anyone know which resistor value is required to otherwise enable charging?

It should certainly work, as the phone should be able to act in OTG mode while being charged at the same time, when placed in Motorola lapdock.
There are (at least) some 100k and 200k (between pin 4 and 5, I assume) tests present in kernel (emu detection) that switch the behaviour, but I didn't need to look into it too closely so far. You'll have to study the source and experiment...

I have recently bought this USB OTG adaptor: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Host-OTG-Power-Cable-Micro-USB-Male-to-USB-Female-for-Galaxy-Note2-S3-S4-/191145599519?ssPageName=ADME:LCE:3160
It's the first OTG adaptor fully working for me. All my USB Flash drives are working without problem. It's also charging my Photon Q while using USB host.
Hi,
I just bought a similar to this Type-C to HDMI and USB Adapter for testing DeX. I didn't want to buy an expensive adapter, because I'm not gonna use it very often (maybe this changes, when Linux is ready).
I works great, I also connected my Logitech k400 without any problems.
So I tried an USB 3.0 hub with card reader (3x USB, 1x SD, 1x Micro-SD) to it and DeX doesn't show up anymore.
The S10 still shows, that DeX is running but my monitor goes black.
Does someone know how to fix this? Is this a general DeX related issue or just adapter related?
EDIT: Found out that it's working when I connect the hub before connect the "DeX" adapter.
Hi i will show you all on how to use Dex on your Samsung phones that support Dex without any accessories.
All you need to do is make sure your rooted and use Es File Manager or FX File Manager to navigate to system(root)/system then edit the build.prop
ro.build.characteristics=phone change the phone to tablet
once you have changed that save it and reboot then go to settings and disable your lock screen has there is a bug where it just reboots your phone so you have to use a custom lock screen like Hi Locker that's the best one i have used.
once that is done scroll down your notifications and click the 3 dots then button order there you will have Samsung Dex just put it in your notifications and then click on it and then there you have it Samsung Dex working on your phone
You will notice some apps will act like there on a tablet here is the list of apps

if you have any problems message me on discord T0PGlitch3r#5273
This makes for inefficient use of the screen/phone. Just spend the $30 and get yourself a USB-C hub with video out and use Dex as it's meant to be used. When I am on the road, I patch it into the hotel tv. I carry a mini wireless keyboard and mouse. Boom. Laptop replacement w/o the bulk. No root required.
After Android 10, we can use DeX mode with USB type C only. Cheers
Thanks for the nice tip!
I Love dex mode.
This tip is good for TV Samsung with mirror screen.
It Is my case :fingers-crossed:
But, if anyone needs to use dex wireless with any TV Brand

This device do it without lag

Hello Leon. My Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro is about getting upgraded to Android 10 on September. Do you mean with that Android version you just need to plugin the USBC to USB standard and it will work? At the moment I connect it to my MacBook using Samsung Dex and it doesn’t recognise my tablet... [emoji20]

Hi, has anyone tried to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Samsung DeX station? I needed a USB hub to hock up my keyboard and mouse along with my TV via HDMI.
And I happen to have the DeX station for my work phone, Samsung S8+.
BTW, does anyone know how to make Huawei Desktop mode to work with Windows laptop like the way Samsung DeX for pc works?
Huawei Desktop Mode works fine from the P40 Pro via from USB-C hub (with HDMI, ethernet, USB ports) to my monitor 2560x1440
Unfortunately there are no resolution settings with the Huawei Desktop .. but there are resolution settings with Dex
I do not have a Dex Station to test.
I am not sure about Huawei Desktop on a laptop.

Thanks for your feedback, I may get myself a USB-C Hub to try it out then. Any recommendation?
BTW, I did try out my P40 Pro on the DeX, and it worked albeit not 100% perfect. The sound output to TV was muffed to a tiny volume by default. By toggling it between Auto and Mobile phone to Display device mode managed to bring back the volume to normal.
Here's a few screen shots while testing it:

I would research on amazon and find a USB-C hub that supports Dex .. then you should be ok for it to work with Huawei Desktop Mode.
I bought x3 and luckily x1 was successful.
is their any way that we can extract the dex mode apk from huawei?? i am sure it will also work on my phone if it one out so can y guys see for any apps which u may think is responsible for dex mode experience on huawei phone, u can use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.olalab.appbackup this app to take backup of that app and share...
Hey all! I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas about how to accomplish this.
I'm trying to have an external keyboard, hardwired internet and power going to my Tab A (SM-T510) all at once via the USB-C port.
Is this kind of setup doable? I'm not sure what the limits are of USB-C handling multiple functionalities like this or if there are existing products that could handle this.
Any ideas what is possible here?

To connect Android device to wired network an OTG to Ethernet adapter is required. Note this only will work if device supports it.

Do you know if I can supply power at the same time?
And could I *also* add an external keyboard as a 3rd function?
