Hi, very new to XDA, I'll give the quick rundown
-Got an Xperia XZP
-Doesn't turn on
-Saw that the ribbon for the buttons was cut
-Replaced that
-Doesn't turn on
-Replaced scratched screen
-Doesn't turn on still
Right now I figure maybe the battery is completely dead so I'm just charging that. I wish I knew where to look but everything looks fine from my end, nothing else seems wrong aside from that cut ribbon which I replaced anyway. All the buttons click, everything snapped into place, most I have out still are the SIM/SD trays, the vibration motor, and a few plastic pieces. I've just got it sitting on the charger right now and the CPU is getting hot, but I see no blown fuses anywhere or anything else that could be an issue. Even the old screen, I get nothing.
Any suggestions on exactly what to look for? I wish I knew what caused the issue in the first place, but I got it not working anyway. I'd like to see it functioning, it's a cool phone. Any suggestions I'm open to.

Hi guys, newbie here, and im in desperate need of your help!
So I decided to buy an Note 10.1 and yesterday I received it. Straight away (after turning on) I noticed this rather irritating noise (like a notification sound but not one that is the ringtones options on the tablet) that the tablet made when I held it with one hand well, at first I thought it was a motion gesture since whenever I hold it with one hand (the right hand) it switches to the previous app if your in an app, or previous Web page when surfing the net. So I searched the options 100 times, and nothing to toggle off.
Anyway it bugged me more and more and I couldn't figure it out, then by chance i just pushed slightly on the back of the tablet and the notification noise goes off. Push again, it happens again. I decided that it could be a loose connection being made and remade every time I decompress the right side back panel (I can play it like a piano). So I took the back panel off (a pain in the ****) and noticed a ribbon cable that runs directly where I push the back panel (the S pen sensor cable). It was plugged in correctly, but wasn't taped to the battery like the 2 fatter ribbon cables.
So, I taped it down thinking that me pushing the back panel was moving it and creating a loose connection. I thought I had solved it. Booted it back up, no sound!!!!! Reinstalled the back panel, booted again and BOOM, the sound returns.......
Gutted.
Not sure what to do next, it definitely sounds as if something is disconnecting and reconnecting like a USB on a PC, im getting the sound but no notification or error. I have no idea why this would make an app switch to the previous app or webpage when on net.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Well, it seems I have solved the issue. Since this is a new account, I can't post youtube videos. So I'll leave those out for the time being.
Firstly, heres a video showing the fault. As you can see, I've narrowed it down to the docking station/charger connector.
The ribbon cable was seemingly depressed causing it to disconnect briefly before reconnecting when released. Probably the down side of having a flimsy plastic case.
Solve the issue I removed the ribbon cable and taped a small amount of foam right at the mouth of the connector, making the whole connection sturdier and harder to depress with the cover on, which can be seen here.
Hopefully this helps anyone who finds themselves with a similar issue.

Yep, if the problem isn't fixed there's no way it'll get fixed under warranty now...
If the device is less than a week old, in Oz, the shop is supposed to replace the device immediately. This doesn't mean they won't try the old "It'll take 2 weeks to fix" and "It has to be sent back for repairs" schtick....

I got it from Ebay, although it was listed as new/unused.
So i've been having a lot of issues with my N5 lately, mostly small stuff like general slowness, poor battery life, not surprising on an almost 3 year old phone. I also lose cell service way too frequently (not an issue with my carryer, all my friends are on the same network and are fine). Camera won't focus anymore (though im pretty sure this was my fault, probably broke it while taking it apart). I'm pretty sure the battery connector on my motherboard is damaged. I've had many problems with the battery reading its temperature as -30 C (battery heath "cold"), i've replaced the battery 4 times now and i still get that problem every now and then. Pushing on the connector fixes it temporarily, so im pretty sure some pin is bent slightly out of place and i don't know how to fix that. It recently started having this issue where just moving or bumping the phone the wrong way would cause the phone to shut off. Probably an issue with the battery connector again. I tried fiddling with it but it didn't do much.
The other day i turned it on and the LCD was backlit, but black except for one single vertical white line. Rebooted and it looked normal. Few hours later i got really pissed off with it for shutting off in the middle of an important text and threw it at the wall (not the best idea i know). Screen was already cracked so i didn't really care. Ever since then the LCD has been a real pain in the ass. i can turn the phone on but there's nothing on the screen. Ii get haptic feedback when the Google logo would up, and the notification LED is flashing like i have a message. The backlight is on and pushing hard on the cable connecting the motherboard to the daughter board i can see it start to turn on, (Google logo, few seconds of boot animation) but then back to black (while still backlit).
I can post photos if it would help diagnose/fix this, my phone is my main camera and i don't want to bother anyone if i don't have to.
Anyone know any tricks that might squeeze another mouth out of this dying phone? Any response is appreciated, Thanks!
The issues could have been related to the power button or physical internal damage. My suggestion: replace the screen with a cheap 3rd party screen if the internal components are still working. This will give you more time with your existing phone and allow you to have a working backup.
Okay... I replaced a broken digitizer on a tf300t i had sittin round. Worked fine after reassembly, until i noticed i got an eyelash inbetween the digitizer and lcd. I finally had time to disassemble the gd thing today... Took forever! So now that i've reassembled it, it won't turn on. So... Opened it back up, and realized i've lost the little silver doohickey that sits on top of the sensor on the ribbon cable...
Found a replacement ribbon cable thingy for $12, but all i need is the little silver bit that lays on top. Is there ANYTHING I can do to keep from forking out $12 for some little bit of metal on a plastic tab?? I'm considering taking the one off the volume down button as a stopgap, but the volume button really should work properly, especially since i've got a brand spankin' new digitizer.
Edit: just remembered i can get it turned on by plugging in the charger, so... Is there any kind of app i can install that'll give me software access to the power menu? If I can just find a way to turn it off (other than waiting for the battery to go flat), i'll accept that.

so as the title describes,
Dropped it on the floor from couch height. There is a very small indent on the aluminum case near the micro-USB port.
Picked it up, screen was on. checked for cracks or anything. Saw nothing. So i locked it and put it back in my pocket.
after that, it didn't do anything. Thought battery has died or something. Tried to charge, no charging indicator. as there is no warranty, and this is my backup phone i wanted to repair it myself (have experience working with phones & their little electronics). Removed the backcover, checked all connectors that i could see (without removing mainboard) and tried charging -> no luck.
Found out that if i pulled the battery and tried charging that the red light would show, but not in a consistant manor. it pulses a bit but it stays lit.
Ordered a new battery, but that wasn't the fix.
before i buy a new D6603 mainboard to fix this phone is there anything i need to check? I'll remove the mainboard later this day to check for damage or anything under that, maybe it'll show me something that's wrong with it. loose connector, broken chip or anything like that.

So I was using my Photon Q as usual, had a sick new CM11 install I was playing with for the last week or so, and all was good. I pulled it out of my pocket before I took a shower to check the time and nothing. The keyboard would open when slid out, and it even buzzed when i force restarted it. The backlight turns on for a few seconds when turning it on but other than that, no dice, it turns right off. HDMI out is doing nothing either. It is detected by my computer and otherwise acts like everything is normal. I didn't drop it, it was just in my pocket and a little warm, but it was really just the usual "pocket" warmth. What the **** happened? I can't even tear it open to check because one of the inner screws is stripped : (
EDIT: Can't boot into fastboot or anything manually, connections look good, this is so annoyingly random, and this is the first motorola device to just fail on me without reason...
EDIT EDIT: Died in my drawer last night, plugged it in and the green LED turned on, but shortly after it turned off and and now I am back to exactly where I was before.
Answer: So As you can see from the replies below I am most likely dealing with a broken flex cable to the front panel. I am gonna save up for an un-modded replacement and just swap motherboards. I gutted my current Photon Q and am storing all the parts in bubble wrap, with the motherboard delicately wrapped in paper (less friction, it's sim modded and those exposed copper wires just seem so fragile)
@CornholioGSM I ping you because you are the main Photon Q guys and one of the few still really active, you have seen this phone inside out, any ideas???
EDIT: I checked all the connection after tearing away plastic, it's all good looking. I don't understand wtf happened...
It's usually an issue with the flex (ribbon) cable... all I can say is make very sure that cable is still properly connected.

One of my Photons had a dead display while another had an apparently dead display because the broken flat cable.
Hard to say which one is the culprit w/o a close visual inspection to the flat cable, and even in that case a flat cable apparently in good shape can have one or more broken lines.
BTW a LCD panel can theoretically last for decades, while the cable has a finite number of sliding operations, so the latter is more likely to be the culprit.
Possibly your best option is to get a cheap unmodded PQ from the USA, and replace the whole screen assembly w/o further investigations. Less risk to damage something, way less time needed for the transplant, and possibly even the cheaper option.

Thanks, I'll probably use whatever money I get from my Nexus 5 sale for a replacement Photon Q (un modded). Mine is beat up from a recent camping trip, scratches all over, I need this anyway. Worst case I have myself a sweet new music player. For now I am using a Galaxy Nexus, which I love, but I miss the Sailfish OS support.
