Hi.
I bought a Western Digital N900 (N750s are not available in my country) as recommended by some people in the GeForce forum since it apparently streams well but I always get disconnected from Limelight every 20-30 minutes. Frames start dropping and I'm kicked out. A quick reconnection fixes the issue for a while. I'm like 2 meters away from the router with no walls in between as I was testing it. So I'd like to ask for suggestions on how to improve the performance. If you don't count the getting kicked out, it's smooth.
Setup:
Router A with Internet is connected to PC through Wifi (In a different room and floor)
Router B (N900) is connected to PC through Ethernet (Only Shield and PC are connected).
N900 uses same SSID for 2.4 and 5 GHz
I have tried using different SSIDs for 2.4 and 5 GHz but issue remains.
N900 Smart QOS is on.
I used Wifi Analyzer and I picked the best channel for 2.4GHz and I'm the only one in the area with a 5GHz router.
5 GHz is set to 20/40 MHz Auto (There's no 40 MHz only).
Limelight (rooted) is set to 20 720P/60fps.
Shield is using latest update and rooted.
I've tried normal Gamestream but it's choppy due to 30 FPS and there are weird audio sounds at times.
Is there anything wrong with my setup? Any tips to fix my issue?
Hi all,
Strange problem following my OTA lollipop update yesterday. My (UK WIFI version) Shield tablet is unable to detect my router's 5ghz signal. Kit Kat had no problems and all my other devices can still see it fine. I have also tried changing the settings on my router to see if Lollipop is more fussy about frequency/band etc, but still no joy
Anyone else having strangeness with this? Or is it just me?

I flashed the US ROM last night, and during setup it took maybe an additional 20 seconds before the 5ghz routers (including mine) to show up in the list. 5ghz has always been kinda weird for me though. On a few occasions I've had to disable WiFi, wait 10 seconds, then restart so that the tablet will connect.
I also have the UK wifi version, and my tablet even connected first to the 5ghz network, I was actually surprised.
No issues here with 5ghz wireless.

Thanks guys,
It's very odd, because I run wifi analyzer at home and it doesn't show my 5ghz network at all, yet in the office it does show the 5ghz one.
It was working before the update and all my other devices can still connect fine, so a real mystery

Thanks. Does sound like just me then
Reboot the router?
I'm having this issue with my Nexus 4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/lollipop-5ghz-wifi-t2945330
Upon further inspection, it appears the only 5ghz channels that work are the first couple in band A (36 - 48) Nothing else seems to work.
Can anyone else confirm this behaviour? Try using a 5ghz channel other than 36 - 48
Band A : 5150 - 5350 MHz (channels 36 - 64)
Band B: 5470 - 5725 MHz (channels 100 - 140)
This is pretty rubbish if this is the case, as the band B channels allow a higher output and give me a much stronger signal in my house

I can only connect when I use channels 36-48, Band A UNII 1. Can't even detect the AP with WiFi Analyzer on the shield if I go above 48.
Using the non-US 32GB LTE version in the EU, btw, same frequencies are allowed here as in the US.

Sorry, you're right 48 does also work.
So that's confirmed then, they have for some reason heavily limited the 5ghz channel selection! I wonder why?
It's not a hardware limitation as it was working fine with KitKat, so I wonder whether it's possible to get the other channels unlocked?
Just to be sure, ClownShoes, does channel 140 work for you? I can't test this because my fritzbox router doesn't have an option to change channel width to 20MHz, and channel 140 isn't available to me for this reason.
Same problem for me here. No 5ghz detected when my Xperia Z1 Compact detect it . Even Wifi Analyzer can't see it . I restarted my tablet & stuff, nothin' . I'll try to make a nandroid backup, make a fresh install and I will see the result.
Same problem for me here with my samsung galaxy note 3 32 gb(sm-n9005). If I restart router phone view and connect to 5 GHz. When phone leave coverage are for same hours when come back don't see 5 Ghz wireless. This is strange because I have another phone with windows which work perfect. I will try to change wireless channel if don't work, I thing serious to go back at android 4.4.2
Update: I changed channel from auto to 48 and works.
Just dropping in to say I had the same issue: I had my router on channel 112 and the Tablet wasn't even seeing it.
Switched to 48 and everything works fine now.
Same issue here, hoping Android 5.1 fixes this silly issue. I was wondering why i couldnt see the 5Ghz network at channel 140, 80mhz. had to bring it down to channel 48.
US wifi version here. 5.1 Lollipop, stock rooted.
I can connect to channel 149 with turbo mode (40MHz channel width) & the upper Extension channel, but WiFi analyzer shows my router is broadcasting on channel 153. I tried so many other channels & combinations but this is as high up as I could go & have the tablet connect. It did, however, see channel 161 but got an authentication error & wouldn't connect with the router.
So, back to 149. The signal is slightly stronger & have better throughput than channel 48!
On a side note...I use 5GHz here in this LARGE apartment complex because everyone here is on Verizon FIOS or Cox Communications, so Wi-Fi Analyzer sees 17 (give or take a few for signal strength or weakness) access points around my place & the 2.4 band is completely choked up! There is only 1 other router close by on 5GHz, so using that band is the only option for wireless internet here. I don't use Verizon's wireless AP. They only have 2.4 wireless, no 5. My Netgear simultaneous dual band router is plugged into the back of their cable modem & my Netgear is on 192.168.2.1. That way I can use DD-WRT & my own router instead of theirs for wireless. Easy-Peasy!:good:
I have the same issue. After switching my channel from 100 to 40 the 5GHZ wifi showed up on (two) shield tablets just fine
I believe the SHIELD Tablet only supports United States Non-DFS channels, so 36-48 and 149-165. I personally have mine on Channel 149 and 80MHz bandwidth.
Hi!
I recently bought a S7 after the Note7 situation. During my time with the Note7 I noticed very slow network transfer speeds when using SMB. 600kb/s. With Http to the same lan device I get upwards of 6MB/s. The S7 I have now does the same thing.
I tested using TEL CSC 6.1 and the new 7.0 beta.
The original Note7 discussion is here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/help/slow-wifi-lan-transfers-t3452766
Any ideas?

I confirm same issue here on French Galaxy S7 (Exynos chip). LAN SMB is slow, but anything else is OK. I had to switch to PnP to watch HD movies, SMB access to my Windows server beeing too slow (less than 300 KB/s most of the time). I can sustain 8/9 MB/s transfer speed on QHD videos with Netflix, Youtube and PnP media server. I tried various explorers and media players, and it's always the same, so this doesn't seem related to a particular app.
It's a very weird issue. My old Galaxy S4 (Lollipop) had the same slow LAN/SMB transfer speed (over wifi) as my current Galaxy S7 (Marshmallow) (tops out at 2MB/s at most using ES Explorer) but my Nexus 7 (Lollipop, rooted) does a good 5 or 6MB/s (with all other conditions the same as the phones).
This is over 5Ghz wifi with the devices sitting within a foot of the Asus RT-AC68U router, downloading 2 or 3GB file from a WD MyCloud device connected to the router via network cable, sitting 2 ft away from router.
Have yet to find any solutions other than setting up http or ftp services, which defeats the purpose of a NAS.

I was convinced it was a software issue because my Galaxy S5 running Resurection Remix (Nougat based) is able to transfer files with X-plorer using SMB at 8/9 MB/s, when my S7, nougat updated, peaks at 3 MB/s in the exact same conditions. So I decided to flash the latest Resurection Remix on my S7 (voiding the warranty) to test and guest what ? RR performed even worse than Samsung's OS ! So I don't really know what's going on here. Maybe this is a broadband issue ? Mayby Exynos S7 have a weird Wi-Fi chip that doesn't like SMB ? Who knows ? I gave up and installed SimpleDLNA on my Windows server. I'm now able to watch HD movies without problem.
Same here in S7 (non-Edge) Exynos model.
Usually, the upload speed start at 5MB/s, after 1-2 mins, the speed start slowing down and finally drop to 15KB/s
* (B = byte)
The only temp solution is enter the Wifi Setting page, tap on the SSID currently connected, tap advance setting, the back back back to home (do not change any setting or reconnect). THe transfer speed may boost back to 15MB/s shortly 1-2 mins again.
Waiting for samsung's fix as well. Same problem in G930FXXU1DQEJ and G930FXXU1DQJ1 (I have two S7 with same problem in my home.)
No such slowing down problem is found in my old Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Galaxy S3.
S7 is really well fitted phone for me just except this SMB problem.
Any update on this issue? Is it being solved in Android O (8.0)?
S8's AQJ5 firmware seems already fixed the same problem.
Hello, got a brand new Redmi Note 6 Pro and it doesn't matter how I connect to the internet via WIFI (DHCP or STATIC) the phone keep loosing the WIFI connection if I open two or more apps at the same time - multimedia apps that load images, or videos for example Youtube + Netflix. Or if WhatsApp runs in background and I open VLC the WIFI disconnects automatically. At this point I don't know what to think if is a hardware issue (bad RAM?) or a software / firmware issue, any ideas? Running the latest MIUI (10.0.4.0).
Update: I just realized that the WIFI stops working on my Redmi Note 6 Pro only when I have a Sony Bravia Smart TV on!! If I turn off the TV the phone works fine, no more disconnects. So what can I do apart turning off my tv? Obviously there's some sort of conflict with the Bravia Smart TV connecting to the same router (a 300M Wireless N Gigabit Router Model No. TL-WR1043ND).
This is really strange. I have the same router (running DD-WRT) and a Sony smart TV. And my Redmi Note 6 also loses WiFi... no solution found until now.
Hi Guys,
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.
I've recently switched from my trusty Samsung Note 4 (resurrection remix ROM) to a P30 (ELE-L09) - Single SIM, 6GB RAM, 128GB, Latest updates .
However when using the P30 4G USB or WiFi HotSpot to windows 10, my work Cisco AnyConnect VPN connects & disconnects continuously. Looking at the Cisco Logs on my laptop - it's sending DTLS control frames but never receives any back, hence drops the tunnel and attempts to reconnect.
tested the SIM and tethered to my old Note 4 - VPN stable - so not a carrier issue.
So after trying everything i came across a forum thread detailing a similar issue with iphone and AT&T in the US. and the fix was to lower the MTU - netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "network adapter" mtu=1320 store = persistent
VPN now stable both WiFi & USB - meaning the P30 is the bottleneck? tested and it maxes out @ MTU 1344
surely the device can do better than this, compared to my note 4 it's has much better specs.
Having to manually increase my MTU back to 1500 when on on decent wifi is a pain
has anyone else experienced this?
and is there anything i can do to resolve the issue
Thanks in advance
UKt
