Samsung galaxy 2 fold at&t Change Carrier - Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Questions & Answers

Hi
Have Samsung galaxy 2 fold at&t unlock
Can I change Carrier from att to t-mobile I flashing T-Mobile firmware or can I just Flash csc??

if your phone is sim-unlocked, once you insert a t-mobile simcard it will change the phone to t-mobile. no need to flash anything.

Yes, it works for making phone calls, texts, even 5g. But you won't get OTA updates. At least that's what I was told. I'm typing from a purchased AT&T unlocked Fold 2, with a TMobile sim inside. It works fine, just no updates. Still on One UI 2.5, and android 10. I'm actually here hoping to change this by flashing a TMobile rom. I did a little research last night, and it seems a little scary with the danger of bricking the phone. Back in the PPC hayday of flashing roms, I was all over it. I even flashed a few roms on my s6 years ago, so I have some experience with Odin, but it still seems nerve wracking because I can't return this phone if I brick it. Bought it used.

@vinscuzzy I feel you because I understand what you're going through. I used to flash my devices back in the day. I haven't flashed or rooted in a long time but like you, I also have an unlocked AT&T branded Z Fold2. It seems easy enough. Any reason why you would install the T-Mobile firmware rather than the U1 Unlocked version?

Theoretically I would think the unlocked version would be better because when theres an update, I'm guessing, we wouldn't have to wait for the carriers to do their stuff to it. But I'm not 100% sure if that's how it works anymore. The last truly unlocked phone I had was a Nokia 1520.3, with windows mobile, and it was great, BUT if I remember correctly I had trouble with wifi calling, visual voicemail, and tethering. I actually asked @zimgir124 the same thing in the other thread about which one is more beneficial, but haven't heard back yet.

Well, I just found another thread on how we can go back to AT&T in case we need to.

If it's running well now I would not be concerned with updates. You could well end up with a less functional device by updating.

[Q] Unlocked D2G Working On TMobile US But Questions Remain

Hi,
I'm actually not new to XDA, I 've been a member for about 3 years and used to screw with my old broken HTC G1 all kinds of ways. So ignore the newbie status, I forgot all the old login info and had to re-roll.
Anyway, so now I have a sweet shiny Droid 2 Global that I bought off a ebay for a very nice $149 buy it now in used but excellent condition.
It was listed as unlocked and obviously indeed is because I am running it on Tmobile with a tmob simcard in Dallas, tx. So, I can make calls, internet works and is ok but only on edge (2G), signal is generally pretty good overall.
My questions (after days of searching and reading up, don't tell me to search) Are these:
1. Am I already band unlocked? I can already use tmob's edge/2g, and I can see AT&T's 2g and 3g networks when I search but I can't connect to them or they don't work if I do i'm guessing because i'm on a tmobile sim and obviously can't logon to at&t.
2. If it isn't band unlocked, would doing so unlock tmobile's 3g or is that just straight up not compatible and never going to happen with or without a band unlock?
3. If not with tmobile np, can I get 3g with at&t? Especially since I already can see their 3g network when searching.
4. Wether or not I am running a custom rom or the stocker....
It says it's running 2.4.330 A956.verizon.en.us kernel android version 2.2 kernel version 2.6.32.9 build number VZW
Not sure if this is the stocker or a pre-installed XDA Rom. It boots to a clockwork recovery tool screen too before actually booting into android. Is that something added on or is it on the phone already?
Thanks in advance for any help, so happy to have a badass new phone to screw with.
1. Sure seems like it. You wouldn't be able to use the T-Mobile SIM at all otherwise.
2. T-Mobile uses 1700MHz. The D2G does not support 1700MHz. Period.
3. Yes.
4. 2.4.330 is stock Motorola Froyo firmware.
In your case it would probably be better to SBF your phone to 2.4.29 or 2.4.330, and follow the instructions in the band unlock thread to get you to Gingerbread with band unlock.

I would be very careful with doing an SBF to an unlocked phone. An SBF would rewrite the radio firmware and very likely undo the unlocking that's in place.
The only way that it would be safe to do so is if he still had the unlock code, then he could just re-unlock and re-apply the band unlocker after SBF'ing.
Thanks for the replies. So I guess i'm looking at switching carriers at some point for the 3g. Honestly the 2g isn't that bad though. Plus I heard that since att failed to acquire tmobile, they ended up cutting some deal to share some att tech with tmobile. So some areas will get 1900 mhz 3g at some point. Probably won't happen to me but oh well.
As for the rom, I don't think I want to update just yet. I have no unlock code since it came that way already.
If I get a code though, since it's already unlocked and rooted (i'm assuming),
Do I just toss the sbf file on an sdcard and run the update? I've installed roms on my old G1 but I don't know the exact process on the D2G yet.

SBF files are something else completely. SBF files contain images for every aspect of the phone, from Radios, to the operating system, kernel, and more. Think of an SBF file as a Windows CD. It helps to wipe the entire system clean and installs everything factory fresh.
SBF files reside on your hard drive, and they are flashed to the phone with a Windows app called RSD Lite. The current version is 5.6. There are links to it everywhere around the forums.

Not sure if you read my post at all.
I stated that the safest bet is to perform everything from the start, including the band unlock process.
Why the hell would someone need the unlock code at all on a device that was already SIM unlocked?
I bought my phone off eBay, unlocked, and I have no SIM unlock code stored anywhere. I SBF'd it at least 20 times by now.

Well in this case, this is good knowledge to have. I presumed that an SBF would essentially erase a SIM Unlock because it rewrites essentially every bit of data stored in the phone.
Looks like there's something else going on in these phones when they get SIM unlocked. It's nice to know that SIM unlocks are truly permanent.
I am getting a prompt now for the new OTA update. Will this be safe to do in my phone's current state then? I just keep putting it off for now because I don't want to lose any of the sim unlock or my data ability.
I know it doesn't do much, but I think it might help my battery life which drains 90% every day with only very light use and only 2g data.
It appears that I am going to be stuck on tmobile until 2013 but I can probably deal, or trade it... So I want it to be the best it can be without being fast on data obviously.
SIM lock state doesn't change.
If you're on T-Mobile USA, you definitely have the US band unlock hack performed and if you update you will lose it with no way to rollback to 2.4.x baseband.
90% battery spent per day is normal for Froyo. I get 26 to 32 hours with light use on 3G with WiFi and GPS enabled on stock 4.5.608, used to get 16 hours on 2.4.330.
Hmm, well can I flash the new one. I was reading this earlier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437177
Would that do the trick?
Otherwise, is there a way to stop it from promting me from updating?
If you flash the 4.5.608 SBF image, you'll lose your US band unlock.
To disable OTA:
Rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk, /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex, and /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip by adding .bak to their names (e.g. otacerts.zip.bak).
Ok, I will rename those for now. I was using Astro and it said permissions no allowing me to rename so so I am going to try another browser app.
So is there nothing I can do to get this update done and get back on tmobileusa? There's a way to band unlock it again isn't there?
How many times needs one to repeat that
USA GSM BAND UNLOCK IS ONLY SUPPORTED ON THE BASEBAND FIRMWARE THAT COMES WITH 2.4.29 AND 2.4.330 FIRMWARE
?
Well that's retarded, thanks motorola/verizon for steering me away from ever purchasing one of you phones again. Looks like I will be trading or selling my phone after all. I had an offer to trade for a samsung vibrant which can be flashed to gingerbread and has a bigger, nicer looking amoled screen that I think I will go ahead and do that. Way to screw up your customer base motorola. I USED to like you guys.
Did you mean: “OMG I'm a US GSM user and I wanted to use a Motorola CDMA handset made exclusively for Verizon on my GSM network and Motorola are such jerks because they won't let me”?

Seriously. I have no idea why he's being such a big baby about this. The phone was designed to Verizon's specifications by Motorola. It was designed to not work with Tmo/ATT from the very start. This was known by everyone at the time of the phone's release.
We were lucky in the first place to even get the ATT/Tmo hack. If someone isn't willing to put in the work to accommodate the requirements of the hack then this phone isn't for you.

I'm not, man. I already know why this is and have known since about 5 posts ago. BTW I bought this phone off of ebay a month ago and it was 'listed as unlocked for att&t, tmobile etc' WTF am I supposed to think when I read that? Stop projecting your in-depth knowledge onto all people like it's 'common' knowledge. It's not. That's like saying I should know Obama's favorite food or whatever the hell else for example. I don't know that nor do the vast vast vast majority of people. You know who does know that? Somebody who looked it up!
The only way somebody would know that this phone is locked out of tmob's 3g is by looking that up specifically. I would like to point out that I had the phone for at least a week prior to posting at all, all the while reading up on how to get my 3g before the kind folks on the 1st page answered the final question I had about that (which is the only way I know that now). So it took at least a week of researching to discover this.... We should really close and lock this thread since it's just wasting space with my displeasure about this phone purchase. $5 says this whole ordeal is the very reason the guy was selling the phone in the first place!! (He said he was currently using it on tmobile when I asked if it was unlocked for tmob...)

[Q] T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4G on AT&T Network..

I gave my old Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone that I had on T-Mobile to my girlfriend and unlocked it through t-mobile to be able to use it on her AT&T network. She placed her AT&T sim card in the phone and I unlocked it. The phone works fine but it will not go past "Edge" speed, is this due to the different network frequencies or is there anything else there can be done so she can get 3g at least? Would I have to Root the phone to be able to do so or is there any other easier ways to go about it? Thanks in advance for your help.

I switched to AT&T to get the HTC One X, but I hated that phone (but it had a nice camera), so I got the AT&T Galaxy Note.
I unlocked my SGS4G so I could use it on AT&T to test radio changes, but also I noticed that I only got edge. If I go outside on a really sunny day sometimes I see it get hspa, but I don't think t-mobile phones can get 4G on AT&T's network.
I would expect at most getting edge. The ONE time I did see the phone go to hspa, I still didn't see xfer rates increase. It was slow as hell.
I think the answer is finding the right modem.bin. Our radio device is a little different then the other galaxy s phones, and most of the ones that use this same modem are on t-mobile. I'm hoping to find another phone that uses the same modem on at&t.

Actually, I was wrong. I was hitting the same stupid build prop thing where you're only on hspa if you're using data. If not it bumps you down to 3g.

Yeah, I just recently moved to AT&T bringing this phone. It shows a 3g status but seems to be as fast as it was on T-Mo but depending on the location. My wife has the same device on T-Mo and we drove from Chicago to Florida finding that usually one of us had a signal.
The visual voicemail isn't available from AT&T on this phone but the basic v/m works
I need help on unlocking my SGS4G for AT&T. Every time I try the app method, it either returns the code as "null" or has some busybox error. And the hexcode method doesn't work because mobile terminal can't find the file on my phone. I am running Beanstalk 4.4 ROM, and it is rooted. How can I unlock it?

Try going back to BML and unlocking there as the methods that you'll find on this forum are more reliable that way.
This is one of the free methods I have:

If you still can't get it to work, I do have a paid app on Google Play that can work for you:

I've read countless posts on here saying that was just a kernel... Thanks for the correction
@champ1919 is correct, BML refers to stock touchwiz roms. I recommended that because although I don't own this phone anymore, I wrote the unlock script a while back and I know it works fine on stock roms if you install busybox from google play, after rooting the phone.
Once your phone is unlocked, any newer roms you install will keep the unlock and if you decide to go back to stock after THAT, your phone will still remain unlocked.

Flashing from Verizon to Tmobile. Please help with some clarification

Hello all! I have a s8+ from verizon. I am about to switch to T-Mobile at the end of this week. I have a spare unactivated T-Mobile sim and I have popped it in and it saw signal, and everything seemed good. Also with research I see that its appears just about 98% perfect. They say the HD Calling, and Wi-Fi calling are not working. I know I can flash the stock firmware from T-mobile and get those.
Here is the complication for me, I use Samsung Pay every single day, so I dont want to trip knox. Does flashing the firmware trip knox?

Awesome thank you. So find a stock firmware, flash with odin, and drop in the tmobile sim and done right?
Also is there a good trusted place for the firmware? I normally do here or SamMobile but I havent been able to find it. Maybe my google fu isnt what it used to be
I'm going to be in the same boat will start looking into firmware, too!
Only way knox is tripped is by flashing a custom recovery.

Thanks- I'm also seeing some folks on other threads flashing the 955u1 XAA firmware and seeing positive results. Sounds like after they pop in their SIM, carrier details are downloaded. Just trying to get some items clarified before I do that.
I'm with Verizon I think T-Mobile is more hype than reality with coverage and speed.
I was able to get this working by following along with this thread: https://r.tapatalk.com/shareLink?ur...share_tid=3609487&share_fid=3793&share_type=t
Had to track down the eng boot for the 955u (which I can post when I'm home) but it was a simple as following all 25ish steps. I'm now fully TMB and have all features enabled. My phone does show TMB/TMB/VZW but all ims
and bands are enabled including volte, wifi calling and video calling.

Flashing international on T-mobile downside?

So I just got my 7 Pro a few days ago from Tmobile and so far its working great! I saw the guys over at XDA were able to get the software so I can flash the international firmware on my phone so I can start getting updates when One plus drops them instead of waiting for tmobile. Is there any downfall to this? Will I loose out on any features from Tmobile? I am currently using a cell spot, would that still work? And for the last question will I be able to revert back to the tmobile firmware if I decide to trade in my phone? Thanks for the insight!

From what I understand, Wi-Fi calling won't be as quick switching back and forth, you will absolutely lose RCS UP and the video dialer. I'm assuming you have the 4G LTE CellSpot V2, that will still work just fine. And the dev that posted the MSM to switch back and forth has demonstrated that there is a path back to the T-Mobile firmware. AFAIK, as long as you don't root the phone you should be good to go with a JUMP or JOD trade in in the future on the international firmware, but it's always best to have the path backwards just in case.
Generally the downsides are not very noticeable. "losing" RCS isn't bad considering no one really uses it still. Also even if you root your phone, it's not a problem with JOD or JUMP. But really, if you don't plan to root and take advantage of those perks, and you're satisfied with your current vanilla tmobile experience, it wouldn't really be worth your time. You're free to do what you want without any permanent damage probably.
RCS is actually the deal breaker for me lol. This is my first TMobile phone and being able to use RCS with my buddy i actually get to share videos with is great. The only reason I wanted to flash is to get the updates faster.

Unlocked Pre-Order from Samsung w ATT SIM - will I be able to use WiFi calling /VoLTE

Current Note8 user on ATT (phone locked to carrier). I pre-ordered a Note20 Ultra from Samsung direct, unlocked version. Have been off XDA really for a couple years and not rooting/modding much lately but have read that ATT will not allow unlocked phones on their network to use WiFi Calling and/or VoLTE. If true, are there workaround options for me (assuming I stick w ATT as the carrier I mean) to get these to work, or should I cancel the unlocked model and order the ATT version? Was hoping to root eventually and remove bloatware / play w custom ROMs again on the Ultra etc etc. - that is why I ordered an unlocked version.
Thanks gents for the guidance here! Best forum around for us phone geeks

Did not work for me on the unlocked note 10+. Worked right away on the tmobile.
Att was actually fun to have. Nothing that att expected worked on the unlocked device. For example I had unlimited hotspot, despite it was not included in my att plan.

That's bizarre. I am rethinking this unlocked route. I must have wifi calling since signal at the house is terrible in my area. I don't need the drama of uncertainty if this will work or not. Might as well cancel the unlocked one and just upgrade via att. Oy. Wtf is with att these days? They lost my directv account last year and now their wireless policies are looking like a royal pita.
I don't think you have to worry .... ATT seems to consistently allow Samsung unlocked devices to have carrier functions
You just have to flash the U CSC as mentioned above. Worked for me on Note 10 and is currently working on a s20 ultra device

I strongly recommend switching your order to the ATT model. I got my note 10+ unlocked based off the suggestions found here saying that flashing the att firmware would give me all the features, and I've been through a year of headaches.
For a little wile i was able to enjoy wifi calling, voicemail and VOLTE, but after my first software update the features were lost. i was able to get them back briefly by putting my sim back in an old Att phone and keeping it for a day or two, but that trick never lasted past a week. I've tried re-flashing the software, switching back to unlocked and then back to ATT, basically anything i could think of and it never worked.
calling ATT didn't help either, as the reps gave me a canned line about not supporting outside phones. the whole reason I'm updating to the 20 ultra is to just get my phone fully functional with an ATT model

Thanks darth. Yeah, I switched to the att version. Hate the hidden tracking bloatware etc that comes with it but must have a very workable phone for daily work calls and wifi calling is a must. No drama is my motto these days. Thank you for reporting your experience.
I had the same situation with my unlocked Pixel 4 XL, keep calling ATT until I got the right person to modify my sim to allow WiFi Calling to work, that's my plan when I get my unlocked 20 Ultra.
I'm not a gent, but I doI have the Note 20 Ultra in for review and am using it with an AT&T SIM. VoLTE works, no option for WiFi calling.

What worries me is the 5G. Will unlocked work for ATT 5G?
It does on my unlocked Galaxy S20+ 5G. The Note 20 Ultra is a ways to release and their system doesn't yet correctly identify the IMEI, so I can't say for sure what will happen after release day.

Hi Lisa,
Your reviews are the best, so thank you first of all. Can you check if it has any eSIM capabilities? Supposedly S20 was going to get an update to allow eSIM use in US but that never happened...
Thanks . I'm not seeing anything under connection settings on our US unlocked Note 20 Ultra (there's no IMEI listed or cellular network option listed under connection settings when no nano SIM is installed. EsimClient is running on the phone, which makes me think the hardware must be there. EsimClient is not running on my GS 20+ unlocked.

Great, thank you for checking and comparing with S20+ !
eSIMClient running gives me hope that we will get eSIM support in an update...Still perplexed how or why Samsung has gone out of the way to disable eSIM on US variants when Apple, Google support it.

Ha! Thanks Lisa (love your tech vids!!) - I switched to the ATT version. Supposed to be here 8/21. I can't take a chance with wifi calling being borked, or that just that I may need to Odin-flash updates or CSC packs periodically to keep up with the monthly patches (ie force an unlocked unit to keep working on ATT's network if my previous firmware gets overwritten etc. I mean). I guess as I got older I went from a tech pioneer and adopter to just an end user LOL.... I just need it to work. Maybe I can do that package remove thingy and chop the bloatware periodically... we shall see once the community gets these units and starts their dev magic for us.
I guess I will need to make an appt at the local ATT store in a week to get on a new 5G plan from my current 4G one to take advantage of the coming speeds.
You're welcome- glad you enjoy our vids! With AT&T, you can simply change your plan online, no need to visit a store. The mid and high tier unlimited plans include 5G.

I flashed my unlocked Note 10 plus and didnt get wifi calling, visual voicemail, VOLTE.....only reason I am up grading is to get an ATT version, and to skip all the hassle of an unlocked version. Never again.

Could you tell me more. I have the US unlocked note 20 ultra, I put an AT&T sim in (from my note 9 unlocked) and I can't find an option to turn on wifi calling. I pretty much gave up on feature like this, because I would rather have the unlocked phone, but if it works now maybe I am missing something.
Thanks
