Screen Replacement - OnePlus 8 Questions & Answers

Hi y'all!
It happened today. After many years of being very careful with my phones, today I dropped it and the front screen broke on my 1+ 8. Being that I like to fix everything myself, I already looked into getting a replacement screen. However, I remember reading about some phones who lose fingerprint usability after replacing the screen. I was wondering if this is the case with this phone, and what I can do to fix it.
I was thinking what if I do a factory reset BEFORE the screen replacement, and not encrypt my phone. Maybe this will allow the new sensor to work after the replacement. Any thoughts?
While I'm at it, I was wondering if I could convert the T-Mo version to global version and use dual sim by replacing the board. I will already have the phone torn down. Has anybody done this?

[Q] Dust under screen

I've been using my triumph since September, and I'm loving it a lot. However I found that there are some dust under my screen and I'm currently using the RF case since the first day I have my phone (I didn't toke off the first layer that it came with but I could see that it is deep enough under the screen). Is it just me or any other else having the same problem I have? And does anyone knows how to clean it up?
I have the same issue on the top right corner of the screen. The camera/flash is also filled with quite a bit of dust.
Not too much we can do besides call up VM and try to convince them it's a manufacturing flaw and send us a replacement.
My flash light are full of white stuff.. May be I'll keep it till I can't stay with the dust. Beside I have the 1 or 2 year warranty from bestbuy, will they do it as well?
I recently got shipped a refurb because me original phone broke (wouldn't turn on). The refurb had dust underneath the screen, so I called VM to ask if there was an easy way to remove the dust without opening the phone up. They told me that they would just replace the phone for me and within 2 days I found in my mailbox a brand new Triumph, completely unopened in box.
Personally, I think this is incredible because my original phone was a used one I picked up off craigslist. Must say, I have been really impressed with their customer service so far
Thanks! Quick question, I'm currently running TG CM7 on my MT, do I have to flash it back to stock rom before I ask for a replace? And will BestBuy do a replace?
Flash the stock rom & put the stock recovery back on it. Those things should be on this site, if not android forums had what you need for sure.

[Q] Broken screen repair help.

I have dropped my phone and the screen kind of went crazy with colors and overdrawing images and slowly became completely unusable. Can the screen be replaced? I found a bunch of video and instructions on how to do it, but was wondering if replacing the screen will fix it or it's a bigger problem with some broken chip or smth like that.
If i can't fix it, any suggestion as to which phone to get as a replacement. I love custom roms and play with them all the time, but I am not uptodate as to which phone are good for this.
Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

screen replacement
it appears that you not only broke the screen but also the LCD behind the screen. It can be replaced, I have done several. you can pick up a screen with LCD digitizer for less than 100.00 on ebay. I also saw several with frames. If you get one with the frame it is very simple to change. Make sure it is with the correct service provider and you can put your boards in the new one without heating yours up removing the old components and installing the new ones. If you have any questions or concerns let me know. I can walk you through it.

Thanks for the reply. I did find some replacements for the LCD as well and the instructions are good. I am now debating whether I should just get a new phone. Any suggestions as to which one could be a good replacement?
just my opinion but I prefer the samsung phones, However there are many great phones out there. When I'm looking for something I new I like to research as much as I can about the product and compare them against each other. When It comes to phones it depends on what you want to be able to do with the phone. Not to mention that as soon as you but the latest phone on the market a new one will come out soon after....

Doing some surgery on a N5

Hi, was wondering if any of you guys have some experience with this.
I have a N5 (D820) that doesn't seem to get reception, seems like it might be a hardware issue since I have tried everything already.
Anyway, my friend dropped his N5 and broke the display and digitalizer. It still gets calls and everything, he just cant use his screen.
So long story short, he is giving me his broken N5 and I was thinking I can maybe swap the motheboard from his phone to mine.
I've been watching some videos on youtube and its looks fairly easy to dissasemble and assemble again, but I had some doubts with the screen.
I know on other phones (HTC One X) that sometimes switching the screen for a different one, if it is not the very same model, it could cause some issues and the new screen won't work.
Do you guys know if this might be the case with the N5 too? I mean, switching the screen from a D820 into a D821?
EDIT: Scratch that, I think its a D820 as well, so I guess it wont be a problem.
Still, if someone did anything similar to this, suggestions are welcome

Dammm....busted screen!

After 5 months of use, I managed to break my screen....dam it! I've always been quite careful with my electronics, but managed to drop it today. And of course like a cat always lands on 4 legs, phones usually land face down.
Broke the top of the screen and the touch screen is rendered useless. Put an RMA in with Alcatel. I've read others on the internet have managed to get a claim in and Alcatel fixed it for a little better than $100. I would pay the $100, as opposed to buying a new phone.
Questions I have:
1. Since I can't get into my phone, is there any other way to get any data off of it? LCD is still visible, just can't get in.
2. Has anybody had a "positive" experience with getting a glass screen fixed on this phone yet? I've read a few breaks in the forum here, but it doesn't seem like too many have followed through with the repair experience.
3. Are, or is there any advice with regards to this phone and the broke screen?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Dang that sucks......so to get data you can plug it into a computer and the computer should let you pull all your info off. Also I can't help you with the getting the screen fixed as I never broke a screen on my phone.

Have you tried using an otg cable and wireless keyboard/mouse?
Yes , I tried using the OTG , but the lockscreen needs to be unlocked for the computer to communicate with both the internal and SD card storage areas. The back door is locked.
I submitted an RMA to Alcatel and am waiting for further instructions in a repair. Hopefully it won't set me back too much. If it does then I'll just pick up a used one through Swappa.
Thanks for the help.
Sent back to Alcatel. $105 to replace the busted digitizer and ship it back. Hopefully they didn't wipe my phone with a hard factory reset, I requested they not.
Should have it back Tuesday.
Just a follow up with the replacement of the digitizer. Alcatel sent the phone back to me yesterday and they wiped the hard drive with a factory reset, despite my request not to.
Phone works very well now though, I must say. Mostly all my data and apps loaded right in with ease, just lost some texts and a small folder of downloads and photos that were on the phone. Not all was lost.
Don't seem to have SD card issues any longer now, like I had before, which I find interesting. Must be the hard reset that had something to do with that, but my 3rd party launcher always used to struggle to load app icons properly, the SD card would some times not read properly? All that seems much smoother now however.
Cost me $105, oh well...time to get myself a better glass screen protector and case. I had an LK case w/ a kickstand and a peel off screen protector prior. I'll be stepping that up a notch now. One more break of this phone, I'm moving on to a different device.
Peace.

Is there a way to get into an S8+ with a completely (black) broken screen?

I had a repair shop try to fix my broken glass and they managed to screen up the whole display. According to them the glass and screen are integrated and they tried a second screen in case their first was just defective and it didn't work. Ultimately they blamed something like the PMCI port/card???
Anyway, they replaced the phone with a new one. The old one still works as my smart watch is still paired to it and I get alerts etc from it. So internally it seems all good, but the screen itself is just toast. So I have what seems to be a good phone but with no display.
What cool things can I do with it?
Is there a way to "hack" into it without the screen? In other words side-load something using only the physical buttons? For example boot into recovery mode and then click down 3 times and then... yaddie yadda.
I'm just trying to figure out if this thing is totally a lost cause or if I can still use it for something.
P.S. if it's a lost cause, how does one destroy old phones that can't be hard reset in order to recycle it? It has a sealed battery so drilling it or smashing it like old phones isn't really an option anymore.
