So, my girlfriend is getting a new phone. her previous phone was an S7 EDGE, but screen and body are pretty banged up, so I'm thinking about getting replacements and just use it until it gives out.
with that said, I've never been a fan of the edge thing - sure it is pretty and nice to use, but screen protectors for it are both expensive and useless, and also is very difficult to find a heavy duty case that has those laterals extending beyond the screen for extra protection for the edge.
so it begs the question: can I get a screen/body replacement of a S7 NON EDGE and put the hardware of the S7 EDGE inside it?

Thinking about picking up the S7 but coming from a note 3 I can't imagine going down to a 5.1 inch screen. I'm hesitant to buy the edge version because I feel like the phone cannot be protected nearly as well as other phones. I take great care of my phones and they all stay in otterbox defenders but they don't make defender cases for the edge. Basically all that glass exposed on the side is scary to me. Looking for other folks opinions and thoughts.

Not concerned my friend has the edge s6 and he always breaks his screens doesn't use a protector or case and his screen is emaculate. Will put a protector on and a case so think ikk be OK
Just use a standard film protector, cheap and they apply well if you take your time.
There is a major difference with the "edge" phones and regular flat plane, and that's the touch response is muted on edge phones. You have to intentionally press, whereas on a flat screen like the s6, you can touch with feather light presses. I know somebody has experienced this too, and it's not just me.... I guess if anyone else has had this too they can let me know and hit the thanks button...
I've honestly never had any major touch responsiveness issues with the edge. And I've owned the s6 edge and edge plus. You just have to make sure you aren't tapping the bezel area.
Thanks for the responses. I'm mostly concerned about side impacts. If my current N3 took a hit too the side it's protected. I know there are threads on this but can you guys suggest S6 cases that work well to calm my nerves haha
Surely a reputable case company that has an s6 will also offer one for the s7

I think it fared just as well as we thought it would. It's pretty durable and scratch resistant but not shatterproof, that's for sure.

Looks like we're still dealing with GG4 here.
Thanks. I've been waiting for this
Fair play to the iPhone, that is one hardy piece of kit. As for the S7, given the amount of glass it has externally, it did about as well as I would have expected. Personally, I'd prefer the back to be aluminium rather than glass, but there is no doubt it wouldn't have looked as nice. I'm going to have a silicon cover on mine, so would hope the only likely drops will result in no issues at all. Then again, I can count the amount of times I have dropped phones on less than one hand in the last five years.
That's disappointing. The S6 edge did a bit better back in the day?

To be fair, you can't take one test like that and compare it directly to another device in a similar test and say one is conclusively better, or at least not from a single test anyway. There are numerous factors which could make a massive difference. Simple fortune on how the device lands for example could be the difference between a cracked screen and a few scratches. Look at the iPhone 6s+ screen in that test for example, it didn't break at all despite all those tests. Yet I remember seeing another drop test on exactly the same device which resulted in a cracked screen on the second drop from head height. There are simply too many factors involved.
That said, the flat glass on the back of the S6 does strike me as being more resilient, purely due to the shape and the fact it would be more difficult to make contact with the ground on a drop. The metal surround would invariably make contact first.
The 6S is indestructible lol. In any case, the Edge fared far better than I thought it would.
GG4 on the back glass and GG5 on the front https://youtu.be/D_bB5fnN7Jk
I really wish Samsung would do what Motorolo did a few years ago and let you build the phone to your liking. Ok I want an aluminum back, 8 cores, 8gb or Ram, etc and it cost this much....
I have never been a fan of the glass backs. I throw mine in a case right away for protection so could care less about it being pretty... I want it to be durable... I mean I did just shell out a lot of money for it and I want it to LAST!!!
Talking about that video above, I have always found it amazing that anyone would keep their phone in their back pocket. Absolute stupidity.
There wouldn't be wireless charging if no glass back? Or maybe Samsung Pay? Aluminum back would be a conductor. The s7 edge is rather bigger than the s6/edge so there's more surface area for damage and any point of strike will have a higher chance of cracking. The phone did really good I'd say....
I feel so so sad on this gorilla glass 4 on this galaxy s7 edge silver color. This is my girlfriend's phone she also got case on it but just a a clear view case because another case cannot find in local store in my country so and i also bought still on the way!
So lame just side drop from her hand and got this freaky screen break and that gorilla glass almost want to jump out of the screen
Mine is the black onyx one i use my baby very carefully but i never use phone with case i just wanna keep the feel curve and beauty of my phone!
So be aware to all another users! This really happen and also the home button is really easy to scratch too(i know it also a cheap plastic?)
There is a thread for this here

The S8 lost to the G6 in a drop test, but surprised to see the S8 lasting than long before cracking. https://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/2017/05/16/drop-test-samsung-galaxy-s8-vs-lg-g6-video/
yeah GREAT durability, it cracke dfor me after a 0.5m drop. this phone sucks in the durability department. luckly im getting a new one so i got out lucky but still...
Mine cracked after my first drop, my case didnt come in time im dumb for that but i have insurance and the crack isnt that bad. But I think this phone is fragile, not every drop is the same though
I just broke my second S7 edge, ? have never broken a phone's screen until my first s7e, I really wish they made a flat version
Guys im looking for a new phone. Im from germany and will Import one of this phones with snapdragon. Is the note 20 ultra more curced than the note 10 plus? In some videos i can see a difference. Is this only to loght or is the form of the screen sightly more curved? Thanks
From where will you import?
I have both, I don't believe it's curved more. Definitely not noticeable if it is. I really doubt it. I find the n20u screen easier to use actually and less accidental touching on the sides than my note 10

The curve seems disorienting at first but now I don't really notice it certainly not when watching vids.
Obviously it takes away flat screen real estate but also gives a convenient place for One Handed Operation + to live.
The case should be slightly above the screen sides to help protect it. With the Bolt case I rarely get accidental touches but can access the sides easily when I want.
The right case makes these phones a lot easier to hold and use. My 10+ is never out of its case except for maintenance.
