What is the safest method to Root REDMI 5 to recover lost files and folders? I have deleted some important photos and clips while cleaning the junks in my REDMI 5 mobile. Have tried using dozens of different android file recovery apps but all of them are asking to ROOT the mobile first. Popular rooting apps like KING ROOT, KINGO ROOT and ROOT GENEIUS etc., are not unable to root this mobile.
Some of root app only support devices running older versions of Android, so you may need to do some shopping around to find one that works for your device.

It appears that after using Root Tools program to move my cache files to the sdcard that I have lost root somehow.
Titanium Backup, Wireless Thether, etc will not get root access even with permissions granted.
I tried to reroot my phone using unrevoked 3 and remove/reinstall wireless Thether and that did not work.
What do I need to do?
It seems as though root priveleges are just completly gone.
I've looked through other threads with no luck.
I always root and mod my phones and have used Titanium Backup Pro religiously for years now but I do work on other people's phones a lot and curious what some of you use or think is the "best" or "easiest" solution for people who aren't rooted and want to recover or move over saved apps and data?
My cousin got a galaxy alpha, coming from a S4 and the S4 was rooted and modded (I did for him) and had been using TB as well but much to my dismay he doesn't want to root (at least yet) his new phone in fear of the damn Knox warranty voiding trip counter (he didn't care about same thing on last phone though?)
So would just like to know what is your easiest recommendation to (similarily) get the ton of apps he has saved via TB (and their customized data/settings) etc onto the new device? (Well knowing that one can't specifically use TB to do this process anymore on the new unrooted phone). I know of a couple work-a-rounds but not necessarily the best..so curious.
Thanks
Ps..I DO KNOW that he or I can't specifically restore the Titanium Backup files to a non root device but looking for the best similar option...the old phone is still here and loaded with everything needed...so installing something else and doing new app/data backup to SD or cloud etc IS the option being requested.

Root - restore backups - remove root
You can restore apps which didn't require root, that should be enough if you don't want to root now.
It would help to know what exactly you aren't able to restore without root that doesn't require root already. My thought is: if he doesn't want root now, he wouldn't want to restore something that requires root.
Well the root and unroot is not an option..as for the apps..most are regular apps..it's not the apps or the root access apps that's the issue, it's mainly the easy transfer of all the (many many apps) data to the phone..the built in Google backup and restore has failed me a few times in the past..

Hi
Ive recently rooted my phone using v root (the chinese version). I needed to root the phone to remove some unwanted firmware, after i amended the firmware i unrooted the phone which deleted the chinse superuser. I then unistalled the apps the chinese superuser left, i also found some sort of files left by the rooting app which i deleted (these apps could not be opended by the phone). I ve run AVG which confirms my phone is not under threat but wondered if the rooting app will have left anything unwanted.
Thanks
Hi,
Thanks For using XDA Assist
Rooting allows unrestricted access to applications and there is a chance that some kind of background script and/or other malicious app might be installed in the background. One of the common ways to check the apps pushed/installed is to use application like root explorer and check the date stamps of files in /system. Files with unusual date stamps might be the ones modified.
It's better if you restore your phone to stock firmware and root again. Try these methods to root your phone

Good day !
What specifically am I lookin for, won't some of the system dates have been changed because of the root. I've now unroofed the phone.

Unless there is a specific method used on ALL of your system files ,your system dates will remain unchanged. I don't think someone will resort to that method imo.
But you have a point. Rooting might modify some important system files.
Unrooting is not a complete solution . Flashing back to a stock ROM/firmware is the complete solution. After unrooting ,you need to change read only status to read write which can only be done if you are rooted. Or via running a shell exploit. It's a catch 22 situation.
Thats why I would recommend flashing Stock Firmware if possible !
Have a good day
I'm currently trying to root my J3 Luna Pro for the sole purpose of backing up app data for a discontinued app that still works with a saved login, however, all the root options I'm seeing require formatting your device. My last phone I was able to root just fine with Lambdaroot, and that didn't need formatting. While the older rooted does have what I'm trying to back up, of course the POS in now stuck in a bootloop, so getting the login file from the old phone isn't an option. Are there any ways to root a J3 without wiping it, or at least back up the appdata? (I tried Helium Backup, but it said that backup was disabled for that specific app)
Please delete thread, creating new one in Q&A forum (my mistake)
Hi, so it has been a long time since I have worked with custom ROMs or root access on an android device (back when the Nexus 2 released) so I don't really remember anything and know nothing about how the android environment has changed.
The reason for my problem is that I was "hiding" sentimental/sensitive material in a folder associated with the Google Drive application using a file manager app (cut and paste into Drive folder) so that it wouldn't appear in Gallery scans, and when my drive app wasn't working as expected I (stupidly) uninstalled the update (can't actually uninstall the app on stock ROM) causing the folder to be wiped. Now I'm trying to find a way to recover the files but all the solutions recommended by a google search that I've tried require root and from what I know, correct me if I'm wrong, unlocking my bootloader to gain root access will wipe my internal storage which would probably defeat the whole purpose(?) of trying to recover information as it will overwrite the sectors. So does anyone know of anyway that I can recover this data from my device? I am willing to root as long as it will yield results.
tl;dr - need to recover files on stock P20 Pro (locked bootloader, no root), please help I am lost and noob now
Thanks in advance!
