I live in the US, but I ordered an Edge S before I realized that the G100 might launch in the USA soon. Even so, it's looking like it might be more like $500, and I paid less than $400 for the Chinese Edge S. Hopefully the $100 savings will be worth it. But value-wise, I'm very excited for this phone. Some people are kind of angsty because it's an LCD display instead of OLED, but in the battery life comparisons I've seen it does very well and is just behind the Galaxy S 21 in overall endurance. I have the Black Shark 3 Pro but I've just never been happy with it since day one. The UI isn't great, it lacks NFC (I didn't know or else I wouldn't have gotten it...who makes a $700-$800 flagship without NFC?!?), and it lacks desktop mode. All of those were actually better on my previous phone, the Mate 20X. The UI wasn't much better on my last phone, but it was a little bit. I like how Motorola is really light on their UI and on extra apps, focusing more on hardware and a smooth experience. I had Motorolas before and I've really liked them, and a lot of my family has Motorolas now and they're happy too. My only hesitancy is that the screen is a tad small, smallest I've had in a while. But I think 6.7 will still be big enough. And hopefully too, I can sell my Black Shark 3 Pro for more than I paid for the Edge S since my phone is still in very good condition. I guess we'll see!

I've had my eye on this phone for a while. The specs look really nice and at $400 it's a decent deal for what you get. Will be watching to see how the rom development goes. I think they released the kernel a while ago so hopefully something happens soon.

Hey, yup, I'm looking forward to this phone. I also live in the US and like Moto, unlike a lot of people. If you don't mind me asking, what carrier do you use? With no North American variant announced yet I'm thinking of buying one from another region. Just wasn't sure if it would necessarily work. I don't have any experience buying phones outside of this region. Any advice would be great.
I think you could buy a Moto edge S from Chinese, the cheapest version is 1999¥ RMB.
After that, you unlock the Bootloader, when the global version release - G100, you can flash the global version firmware. It's very nice!
To be honest, the Moto edge S (Chinese version), the UI is MyUI, not pure Moto UI. It's very ugly.

This may be the route I go with. I guess it all depends whether the phone is released here in NA. I've seen articles that have said "more news to come" regarding a release and I've also seen at least one that has said "will not be available in North America". Of course, none are official statements by Motorola, so either can be true. I really like this phone, though, and one way or another, I'm going to pick it up.

I've not seen it for this price anywhere. Where are you finding it?
I bought mine from AliExpress, but I've also bought from Giztop.com before and it was fine. I don't have the phone yet, it should be arriving probably in another week or so. I don't know of any bootloader unlock, nor having access to a global ROM to flash.
As far as buying phones from outside your region, kimovil.com seems to have the most accurate and also easiest to read info about which service bands a device has. I have AT&T, and this device has more LTE bands than my current one, which works fine anyway. I may not really get 5G, but I don't think AT&T has 5G in my area yet anyway.

Cool. I'll consider it after I get it. But most likely the Chinese ROM will be fine. The description says it comes with Google services and has English language. I'll probably only try to flash Global if I run into issues.

You could find Moto edge S on China website, like jd.com or taobao.com.
if they could send it to your country, China retail version is the lowest price.

I bought mine a few months back when they were doing pre-order from giztop.com. They shipped to Canada. now I'm just waiting for the G100 rom to flash the Edge S, and I'll be 100% happy. Other than that. great phone.
I 'm using the edge s . i find the phone 3.5mm headphone sound is so bad quality. Especially at low volume, there are obvious noises that accompany the ups and downs of the music.
Hello everyone! I am very exited about this phone too. I live in Argentina and ordered the Moto G 100 a few days ago (8GB+128GB+USB C to HDMI Cable). Next week should be in my hands.
I am also thinking about custom ROMs like PixelExperience, which I really like. Currently I have a Redmi Note 7 4GB+64GB I am very happy with the behavior of PixelExperience on it. I am a little afraid that I am will not get used to the Motorola UI.
Also thinking about custom ROMs do you think that the "Ready For" feature will be compatible?
So far I like the Motorola UI, but it really is personal preference. I've never tried PixelExperience. As for Ready For, I can't say. But starting with Android 10, desktop mode was built-in as a developer option. I haven't tested that feature at all, but I imagine it's decent and similar to Ready For.
As soon as you get your G100, if you could download the Rescue and Smart Assistant, download your firmware, and then upload it and share it here, that would be awesome.

Hello, all.
I've recently discovered Huawei and their larger-than-standard phablets. Before now, I only wished for a 7"-8" tablet with a cellular radio... Now I come to find out... It's a thing.
I've just started looking into how to get one of these behemoths into my hands... Sadly it seems I may have to ditch Sprint (CDMA) to do so... But to realize such a huge phone... I'd do it in a second.
Can anyone tell me about Huawei's supply chain into the USA? How do I go about buying one?
Also, the devices I'm looking at seem to be a bit on the old side... The Mediapad X2 being the most current. Is this correct? Am I not seeing something new about to hit the scene?
Educate me. I'm kinda over using strictly what my carrier says I can.
(I've just realized this post likely belongs in Q&A. My apologies. Please move it if you see fit. Thank you.)

You can buy one from newegg.com. It still ships from China but you're secured through Newegg,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA86Y4A21232&cm_re=mediapad_x2-_-9SIA86Y4A21232-_-Product
The X2 is over a year old but is sill the king of the 7 inch phablet. We have roms for it and help if you need it. It doesn't matter which model you get as far as LTE goes because all models will only give you 3G or HSPA+.

Awesome! Thanks for this reply. Honestly, I'm kinda glad I'm late to this party. I imagine I can pick up the x2, which is still an upgrade for me, for less than premium price.
Bummer on the GSM only thing, but again, I'm not sure it matters that much. I do stream a LOT of Google music via unlimited 4g LTE, so that may hurt... So torn. Maybe I score a hotspot for the car... Hmm.
Hspa is fast enough for any streaming music or video. I had LTE with my previous big phone, Xperia Z Ultra and I don't miss that at all. This monster 16:10 display is amazing but the phone is not perfect.
Some of us have issues with the GPS suddenly not working until a restart of the phone. Still not sale to figure out what triggers that issue.
Also 5Ghz wifi is much weaker than my other devices and the same seems to apply to Bluetooth.
No deal breakers for me but just thought I would mention it.
The only thing I miss is NFC really

That is fantastic news. Is HSPA similar/equal to a 3G CDMA network? Or maybe a middle step between 3 and 4G?

How prevalent is this issue? Out of say, 100 users, how many seem to be affected? Or is it not quantifiable in these terms? Not a deal breaker (unless I'm severely affected, I suppose...)

Hmm. When the first 7" Samsung tablet came out, I worked at Sprint. We all joked about using it as a phone and held it up to our faces... It felt a bit silly. I was thinking I might use a Jawbone for phone on my imaginary tablet... I guess the question is: how weak is it?

No big deal for me. I've never found a good use for NFC. What did you use it for?
The final hurdle (I think) is T-mo. What kind of deal will I get from them... Guess I need to go talk to them.
Thanks again for the input and info.
Also, considering the age of the x2, would it be wise to hold off a bit for its successor? I've read the thread about the x3/m2, have there been any updates in that department?

You won't get LTE on the M3 either as it doesn't have any of the US LTE bands.
While x2 still being a perfect device for me, you also may consider zenfone 3 ultra, if you could afford it

Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (Its what I used as a phone before my Mediapad X2)
Better screen and faster, its just bigger...
If you buy an international version they have the cellular radio enabled and HSPA+ is more than fast enough for everything. I haven't had LTE in 4 year and I don't need it.

If you don't care about size then yes, its better than the Mediapad X2, it won't be as fast as the latest stuff however like the Zenphone 3 Ultra. But its definitely fast enough for anything you need and the screen is big and gorgeous.
You can also take a look at the Huawei Honor Note 8. I think the 128G model is similar in price as the X2. I have both and the 6.6 inch Note 8 is about 1 cm narrower than the X2 and about the same in length. It has a better screen, better CPU and more RAM and eMMC storage.

Is there some way to fool a phone to think it's a tablet (and vice versa)? I have a MediaPad X2 that I'd like to use more as a tablet than a phone.
Is that possible?

Honestly I think this phone is really good, having said that though I am in the process of returning mine. Just look at the lack of activity in these threads for this phone and lack of custom roms, if you are happy with stock phone then get it otherwise theres hardly any custom stable roms unfortunately and there sadly seems to be a lack of devs here for this phone.

U got a real result there mate.
I have had my honor 8 for a few months now and I love it.
I hadn't rooted Etc and staying with stock on this one for a good while.
I know that people ain't happy with the custom ROM stuff that's happening or not happening.
This will change though, off you read what the devs are saying over on the custom ROM thread they are saying that they are working on thier own sources for Lineage 14.1 and once they have that sorted all of the other ROMs will quickly follow.
If I could start again with this phone would I still buy it knowing what I know about honor's lack of involvement ??
Yes I would for sure. It's a great phone with great specs.
I also have access to the pixel and I honestly prefer my Honor 8

It's a very good phone, fast, stable, good battery life and a very nice looking design. As other members said, if you plan to root and want custom rom i'm not going to recommend it, but if you stay stock, go get it. I got like one month ago and i'm happy, i didn't made root, i'm running B360 (Android 7.0) on FRD-L09 and everything it's just perfect. I like the EMUI 5.0 a lot, idk why a lot of people hate it. So, as i said, if you don't care too much about development go get it.

My flat mate has the pixel and his phone is not running any better than my Honor 8
Greetings;
I'm almost convinced to sell my Sammy S8+ and buying an HTC U11!
What I need to know is this: is there an advantage to get a specific variant
over another as far as the "Rom/Kernel Development" goes?
I live in Canada but can also import one or even get a "US unlocked" unit.
Thank you.

Well, those of us who have been with HTC since the beginning of time welcome you with open arms... but before that, there's a few things we have to go over on our "Are-You-Worthy-Of-The-HTC-Phone-Checklist"
1. Do you constantly wish you could change your phone to fit your needs (you're that guy that always has something unique or flashy on their phone)?
2. Are you a nerd, geek or maybe have high aspirations to be either (Blessed are the nerds, for they shall inherit the earth)?
3. Are you a selfless, confident guy who values quality and uniqueness over useless features?
4. Do you promise to remain faithful, year after year, even if HTC fails to produce devices worthy of your C.H.C (cold hard cash)?
If so, then I recommend going after the regular Unlocked HTC U11 (US version). International version from my experience though comes with dual sims, take longer to get updates and other critical software improvements.
Ditch Sammy and grab the HTC. You might even find yourself with a sexy nerdy chick on your arm! :good:

I've got the U.S. unlocked version and it has 2 sims or it can be used with 1 sim and an sdcard.
My suggestion is get the 6GB/128GB unlocked version ... this way you can use both simslots if you need to and still have more than enough storage.

Get the exynos version if you care about root , otherwise stick with a Canadian version. Never know if Samsung falls back to how they treated the unlocked USA Gs7/edge lineup

lol.
No
Yes
Definitely
I'll promise, lol.
But in all seriousness I miss smooth UI and great performance that is not hindered by laggy software. And great development as well.
Otherwise the GS8+ design is in my opinion one of the best, if not the best.
Thank you.
I went to get S8 today, all S8 and S8+ devices there had burned in displays, it's also weird that Samsung store has on display devices looking like that. No way i'm getting AMOLED phone again until they improve that. Now i'm looking at U11.

That is a display/demo unit. I've had many Galaxys and Notes, but never experienced "burned in or ghost on my phones
and also now you have the option of hide and immersive in Tochwis.

I have S6 that's a mess, started showing burn in after a year, and now after two years it's very bad. I use navigation in a car and that's main reason. I still might consider S8 but i like U11 more and more.

Just do it........
Best build and smooth UI on the market......

I moved from Samsung to HTC 2 years ago and never looked back since. I'm not even tempted to.
Beamed in by telepathy.
This thing flies! I'm not sure if it's because I disabled animation in Developer options but this is really fast! The unit is slippery at the same time for me it feels very nice to hold. Premium build as expected from HTC. And yes the camera...its great! 6GB/128GB here?
Just got it in Black. S8 display was to narrow for me.

I was a S6 owner too. Indeed, I think S6 is pretty than U11 but TouchWiz UI is a big mess and got memory problem during multi-tasking.

Well I went from the s8+ to the G6, lasted 1 day back to the s8+ then I got the OnePlus 5. Ditched the s8+ for the oneplus. Lost the great display but gained a smooth lag free experience. Then I got a great deal on the HTC U11. Never considered HTC before that. Never been a fan of touch U11 and their cameras we always ****ty. So when the U11 Dxomark rated 90 came along it seemed like an obvious choice. So now I got rid of the oneplus 5 and I'm rocking the U11 until the note 8 comes along.
The U11 software experience is just as smooth as the oneplus 5 with half the ram so better than the s8+. Only downside imo is the UI it's very dated. It basically looks like kit kat. The theming engine is laughable and sense is way too invasive. On the upside the design and finish is great, the screen is surprisingly good and the sound is also very good. So in the end somehow HTC U11>Oneplus5 >S8+
And yeah no lag.
Did I mention no lag... ?

And I also thought about OP5, I mean excellent price, power and software and unreal Dev activity,
almost like the "Nexus" what use to be! But as soon as I sell my S8+, I'll get a U11.

Oh yeah. Oneplus has definitely taken over the Nexus mantle. Lots of bang for your buck with a thriving development community. The only reason that made me go with the U11 is the better camera. I'm not sure which provider you're with. I'm with Telus and I lost my LTE + with the U11 had it on both the s8+ and the OP5 just in case that sort of thing matters to you. ?

Of course it does. I've been with Rogers for a while now but bought a "Public Mobile" SIM card but haven't switched yet and
as you probably know PM use Telus bands. Don't you have the Canadian variant of U11?

That's the thing. I have no idea. Bought it off of Kijiji. I have no idea where to find the info. Don't know if I have the Canadian, us, or international variant.
The OPO is getting old now, I've had my 3years worth and loved it despite the issues I've faced!
However it's time to upgrade (new job, more money )
I'm in the mix between ;
Pixel 1 XL - £400 (Really like this phone, although the age is putting me off SLIGHTLY due to not going to get many official updates)
Pixel 2 - £630 (Quite a bit expensive, will leave me quite skint but possibly worth it; I want this device the most)
LG G6 - £400ish? £500 with a floating LG speaker (I REALLY like this device, especially for the money but the skin and delay in updates will probably make me ill lol)
Oneplus 5 8GB ram - £450 (student discount) (obviously this looks like the no brainer but i KNOW the jelly effect will really get to me, in nearly every review of it on youtube i notice it when they scroll; no one can change my mind about this but I've added it to see if theres yet a fix for it? or is there going to be one? I havent seen anything about it?)
;
And these are the phones, can anybody steer me into the right way? I honestly cannot decide, and my mind hasnt been made so I'm not biased against any however I'm least keen about the OP5.

I wouldn't choose them sort of phones anyway mate due to the inconvenience such as; they'd be imported, wouldnt have good support if anything was to happen and the sites selling the xiaomis at least havent had the best reviews.
The phones i suggested i can buy in town without hesitation, even the Oneplus 5 due to being in the UK and o2 selling oneplus products
I just want something that works, is great all round and smooth. (and something i'm able to flaunt to ALL of my iPhone friends that claim Android is for 'tramps and emo geeks' hahah )

Well I was going to get the honor when it was just out as my dad asked if i wanted to get it off him and swap him for my opo with some money on top but the software is a big killer, possibly THEA worst android skin on a mainstream phone. The look, the feel and everything is clunky and pretty fairly disgusting.
I dont think theres any other phone on the market I'd have other than i've stated, I really like the Moto Z but I can't find it for sale in the UK (reasonably priced anyway), Also like Sony xperia phones but again, they're too expensive for what they are. The new HTC u11 is £600 so again, too expensive all considering.

Hey there all!
Hoping to upgrade from my S8 after nearly 5 years (yup, it's been so dependable! haha), and came across a S21+ for a decent price where I am currently living in Japan.
I am originally from Canada, and therefore for my S8 I made sure to buy an NA unlocked model (SM-G950U1) just to ensure that everything was in English and that I could also use it abroad in Japan as it was SIM-unlocked. In the end I never had any problems if I ever needed to reset everything, and at the end of the day, these days all language settings are all first set up in the OS at the time of factory resetting anyways, so I don't imagine this Korean model would be a problem.
Anyhow, that being said though, I have never purchased an unlocked Korean model before (looking at a 256GB G996N for a rather cheap price right now), so I am just hoping to know what I am getting myself into before purchasing.. just in case there may be some pitfalls such as different bands.. warranty claims needing to go through Samsung Korea... apps/bloatware being a bunch of Korean stuff... etc.
Worst case scenario, being an Exynos model, wouldn't I be able to flash the official international "G996B" rom if I just wanted something entirely in English right from the get-go.. or would that not even make much of a difference?
It would be great to have any advice that I could get; sorry for being a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff lol.. just trying to be careful before dropping a good $500USD-ish! haha
Cheers!
I pick up a new N10+ instead. Or a used one running on Android 9 or 10. Avoid 11 and especially 12.
More bang for the buck. No 5G or variable refresh rate display but a better display in terms of color accuracy and reliability. Cams not as good but the N10+ grabs good images. Better form factor, functionality, usability and battery life. Expandable storage up to 1tb... and that's important.

Wow, you are such a loyal user. the longest device I use is around 3 years and it was Xiaomi Mi 8 until I switch to S21+ when it's launch. I think, phone should regularly update once every 3 years to keep updated with the latest feature.

I'm not korean, so I don't know a specific case of S21+ korean version. I live in asia and I'm using Exynos version. Everything is working flawless, English is available from the get go, I'm using English as my main language for my phone, I think there will be no difference from the US version. You can't install snapdragon firmware for an Exynos phone though.
Something to note that Exynos version have a worse camera and battery life compared to the snapdragon. The differences is slightly though, not something a deal breaker at all.

Haha, yeah, I actually went Galaxy S1 -> S4 -> S8 ... and now maybe to S21+.
I like the S21+ more than the S21 or S22 because of the better battery... but I am also afraid that coming from an S8, the S21+ will feel too big to hold properly. I guess I will just go to a local phone shop here in Japan and see if I can test the size of it to make sure it's usable for me.
Anyhow, thank you for letting me know about your experience with the Exynos version. I have always had Snapdragon phones since that was normal in North America, but Snapdragon versions have locked bootloaders so they don't get root exploits and custom rom support.. that is a big part of holding onto a phone for 4-5 years like I do, since good custom roms like LineageOS give all the features you need with a nice, clean experience. Better than Samsung official firmware most of the time!
... interesting that you say the camera is worse though... I've heard about the battery life being slightly worse, but never the camera! hmmmm!
