Galaxy A51(SM-A515F) in-app camera lag - Samsung Galaxy A51 Questions & Answers

Hi everybody, i own this phone for almost a month now... i was wondering if people who own this phone have encountered any of the problems which are;
instagram whatsapp twitter etc when you take a photo inside these apps, closing and opening animations become choppy or sluggish and the phone noticeably slows down.

Maybe you should uninstall unused apps, free some space on your sd card, check for apps running in background, etc.
I regularly "clean" my system to keep it smoothly runing.

Same problem on my device. It happens because the apps aren't optimized for android phones

Multitasking Issues?

Hi guys,
I recently was able to exchange my Prime for the Infinity and for the most part I am extremely happy. The WiFi and GPS are both fantastic and the screen is beautiful!
One thing I've noticed is that when I go back to an app that I was previously using it will reload. When I do this on my Android phone this doesn't happen. For instance, if I watch a video on YouTube and then open Facebook, read an email, send a couple of texts... on my phone when I go back to YouTube it will still be paused right where I left it. On my Infinity it reloads and starts from the beginning commercials and all. The same goes for web pages, games, etc.
I'm just curious to see if other people are experiencing this same issue......

The screen is bigger so it might need more ram to store multitasking apps and push the pixels. I'm no expert though, don't take what I say as truth.

Hmm - I don't have that issue. It really depends on the way the app is coded, I believe (could be wrong though).
But, using youtube as an example, I started playing a video, paused it, opened up my new email (from the status bar) - read a few emails. Opened my note-taking app, loked around in there, and then switched back to youtube (via the running tasks icon on the status bar) and it was right where I left it.
Also depends on how much memory the apps use - if you are using a super-power-hungry app, it *could* close what's open in the background in order to take more resources for itself.
Last thing - have you made any changes to build.prop settings or Settings->Developer Settings? They could affect the ability to multitask as well...
Hope that helps.

[Q] a noob question

i'm new to android, and i am wondering, why are there apps, that are randomly starting up in the background, even when all the connectivity the phone is disabled?
same thing with some games, it annoys the hell out of me, when i close a game, only to find it running again a few minutes later?
why is android doing this? is there some way to deal with it? running and closing apps in the background isn't extending my battery life.

Its not extending your battery life because they are not using battery life, well not very much at all.
Android handles its own memory in its own way, not like windows etc.
Apps are kept in memory to make it quicker to switch to them, but they do not using processor time etc.
If memory starts to run out android kills unneeded apps to free ram for new apps

Kitkat [I9505XXUFNBE]: Misery of performance (stock Email app)

Guys,
I just wanted to warn you from installing mentioned update.
I'm not facing issues descried by other people (Clock not refreshing, Freezes, etc) but I'm facing one huge issue:
- Long list scroll lag.
It's a horror ! I have practically no apps installed (I'm using this phone for my work) and application i use the most is "Email"
I have a lot of e-mails there so I need to scroll up and down often.
In 4.3 - everything was working smooth and scrolling was very quick. After upgrade (and many many reboots) - scrolling of the Email list remains horribly slow. Surprisingly - no issue as such occurs when I'm scrolling contact list, long web pages, or even a gallery.
Those who use stock "Email" app - BEWARE !

This is definitely the most annoying bug of 4.4.2. I was about to mention it in the 'bug report' topic I created, but after Mr.Einstein decided to close it I decided there's no point in sharing anything with this bloody dumb community.
Anyway, as OP created this topic, I can say something. First it doesn't happen with stock email app only, it happens with all the apps I have tried so far. Aqua Mail (this is my default email app), K9 and then Stock one as already mentioned. When you are scrolling vertically in a long email list, it lags horribly bad. Now I found the reason, and it is the 'message preview' (it is called Message list format in Aqua, be it 1 line, 2 lines or whatever), if you turn it off (no preview) the lag goes away. Weird, but that's how it is. So anyone who doesn't have preview on, will not see the lag/stuttering anyway. Those who have it on, (any person keeps it on I guess?), as a temporary solution is to turn it off.
Thanks for feedback guys. I'm using slightly higher build number but I'm quite sure it's not what is causing the issue. I did some more investigation and it seems problem occurs only in stock email app.
I have 3700 emails now and scrolling is really jittery. This problem does not occur with other apps.
Do you by chance use "Force 2D rendering" in dev options?

I think this is how famous KitKat's "reduced memory footprint" has been achieved. I'm just guessing here but last (jitter) is most likely caused by limited memory buffer to store "preview" content. App must load days from db more often and voila - use experience goes awol.

Does this tablet just not want to multitask?

So I have had the tablet for a week now, running Marshmallow. Just rooted, nothing more. One thing that is driving me nuts with this tablet is that the way it uses its memory. It does not want to keep apps in memory.
For instance. I can be playing a game, jump out to Chrome, surf for a minute, go to email, then go back to my game and the game needs to reload. I look at the RAM and it says I have like 800mb free. This happens over and over to me.
Is this just normal for the Shield that it aggressively closes apps so fast. I am just comparing to my Nexus 7 that didn't behave like this and I thought it was very odd.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Good question. I self have noticed this behaver, but I have the K1 only for a bit more than a week too and upgrade directly to Android 6.0, so I can't say if that happens on 5.x too. A Bug? A "Feature" of Android 6.0 or of the K1 itself? What ever it is, I don't like it, makes no sense for me, the K1 have enough RAM.

I'm noticing similar behavior but can't effectively tie it to the Marshmallow update either. I'm running stock with Action Launcher 3 as my launcher.
I see the same reload for apps when I've switched between multiple in one sitting. The one place I notice it frequently is in my use of Muzei, which I use in conjunction with Tapet, for changing wallpapers. It seems like at least once a day I access my tablet and notice that the wallpaper has reverted to a stock, static wallpaper and Muzei needs to be "activated".

Well I have no went back to 5.1, and the same problem. I can be playing a game, come out to the browser for a minute or 2, then go back to the game and it needs to be fully reloaded. Honestly I am soo surprised it acts this way, especially with 2GB of ram. It is such a let down. I wish people would have mentioned this in there reviews in the product as I saw it no where. I hate to say it, but it drives me nuts enough I am about to be an Ex-shield owner. I like playing games on this but I am sure other people are like me where they play for 15 -20 minutes. Put it down for a little bit, come back and want to play more. This just doesn't allow for that. It acts more like a portable console. constantly needing to be relaunched.
It's really annoying that it dumps apps out of memory. Like say I'm in Facebook and I want to look up a link in chrome to reply to a comment with.. So I switch to chrome find the link, switch back to Facebook, and now I'm at the main page again and have to scroll and find where I was at and sometimes I just can't and give up. Why Nvidia why?!

As far as I can tell, this is a bug/feature that Nvidia is responsible for. At first, I used to worry about switching between a game like Real Racing 3 and Chrome browser. The game will almost certainly close. Now, the there's an even bigger problem. I can't have a reasonable amount of tabs open in Chrome. They reload each time I switch to them. I considered switching to Firefox and/or Opera to see if the problem would persist but I just can't do without Chrome's syncing capabilities.
The only thing keeping me from rooting and trying out a custom ROM is the loss of Nvidia's proprietary apps.

The chrome tab problem might not be tablet related. I have the same issue on my Sony Xperia Z3 compact and on my Nexus 9. Maybe chrome sucks up so much ram that it forces android to close app in the background and tabs to unload?

My Marshmallow-running HTC One M8 handles this better than the tablet that has a more powerful hardware. I don't know how many tabs my phone can handle at a time but I know the tablet doesn't even come close in that regard.
I didn't buy a 2GB RAM tablet only to have it treat my browser tabs like an iPad with 1GB of RAM.
Holy crap... uninstall Facebook and Messenger and this thing flies. I always felt like it gamed "ok" but the UI was laggy as hell. Uninstalled FB and Messenger and now this thing is a beast.

I would recommend that on any android device. I've noticed on all of my devices with facebook that it was listed as the number one app for battery use even when I hadn't launched it in days. After uninstalling it I got improvements in battery life and now I just use their mobile website in chrome. I actually like that better as links open up in a new tab and there is no need to switch apps to go back and forth between facebook and web pages. I also created a home screen link to the facebook mobile website and put it in a folder on one of my home screens.
I hated the aggressive ram management of the stock rom initially so i rooted it and flashed BitO-k4 kernel , it improved but not up to the mark compared to my nexus 5x , now i use CM13 temasek's build (multirom) and it is way way better.
i think the stock rom is the initial culprit here, removing apps like facebook might help but things like swap , zram and ram management values present in stock will always be bottlenecks for true multitasking.
try using different kernels from our community it might help a bit.

If you still want to use fb try the app tinfoil for Facebook. That kinda goes for anyone regardless of what they are using, it's a lot better. Facebook apps suck so bad with resources they slow just about anything down...

Any thoughts on these rather similar phones?

I've got a chance to get any of these for nothing basically in an upgrade.
Huawei P20 Lite
LG G6
Samsung Galaxy A5
I know most people wouldn't even look at these but I have different criteria from most smartphone users.
1. Best camera possible, especially in low light
2. Enough CPU power and speed to let me game without lag, use heavy-internet apps like Maps and Browsers without lag (my current phone freezes when searching an address and often just crashes.
3. Good battery longevity would be useful
4. LOTS of onboard memory - seeing as how I clearly am someone who needs to have a number of apps that causes my phone to constantly run out of space even when passing apps to the SD Card. Besides, Android's infuriating need to constantly reinstall apps to the phone when updating makes this a mess.
5. I'd like the phone to be rootable to run things like Xposed and do image backups.
Where I differ from most users, I think, is I do not ever use my phone for music or video and can't imagine anything more useless than using a forward facing camera to take pictures. I don't mean I only do video and music occasionally, I mean I have a media player and I would never watch anything more than a news video on a small screen. I'm only saying this because nowadays when you ask about phones you get video and audio specs.
Thanks for any help!
I got the LG. This can be deleted.
