Hi guys,
I recently was able to exchange my Prime for the Infinity and for the most part I am extremely happy. The WiFi and GPS are both fantastic and the screen is beautiful!
One thing I've noticed is that when I go back to an app that I was previously using it will reload. When I do this on my Android phone this doesn't happen. For instance, if I watch a video on YouTube and then open Facebook, read an email, send a couple of texts... on my phone when I go back to YouTube it will still be paused right where I left it. On my Infinity it reloads and starts from the beginning commercials and all. The same goes for web pages, games, etc.
I'm just curious to see if other people are experiencing this same issue......

The screen is bigger so it might need more ram to store multitasking apps and push the pixels. I'm no expert though, don't take what I say as truth.

Hmm - I don't have that issue. It really depends on the way the app is coded, I believe (could be wrong though).
But, using youtube as an example, I started playing a video, paused it, opened up my new email (from the status bar) - read a few emails. Opened my note-taking app, loked around in there, and then switched back to youtube (via the running tasks icon on the status bar) and it was right where I left it.
Also depends on how much memory the apps use - if you are using a super-power-hungry app, it *could* close what's open in the background in order to take more resources for itself.
Last thing - have you made any changes to build.prop settings or Settings->Developer Settings? They could affect the ability to multitask as well...
Hope that helps.

How do apps like Trillian and GTalk look on the transformer? Do they shoot into full screen or actually bring up chat windows more like a laptop...One of my deciding factors in purchasing a tablet. iPad is simply brutal with chat because you have to have it full screen.
Thanks!

What about the native GTalk?
all app will run full screen...I guess it's the built of honeycomb, but there is the multi-task switching. I love to use Gtalk as it can do video chat over 3G even with a PC with webcam. Video and sound are not bad @ all . I uses it for more than 1 hour over 3G connection without issue. Now all I need it a good Bluetooth headset.
I bought my Tablet primarily for chatting on IM at work and surfing the web since my work is starting to monitor everything on it's network. I've tried Trillian but I kept having issues where the notification sound wouldn't go off. It went off about 50% of the time so I had to keep checking the notification area to see if I got a message.
I'm using eBuddy now and it works great. The notification sound does not go off when I'm on the chat screen with a person but as soon as I switch to a different chat window or go to a different app the sound notification will sound off when I get a message.
Both applications do take up the entire screen and that just seems to be an Android thing. The only down side to eBuddy that I can see is that you cannot customize the chat window so what you see is what you get, you cannot change the color or chat bubble style. I'm not sure if you can customize Trillian, I switched before even looking into it.
I keep having my browsers stop, they wont finish loading and then when I touch on the address search bar or refresh button on the screen I get the force close message. I'm having problems with the stock browser and also the dolphin hd browser too. It happens after about 10 minutes and I can't find any correlation with certain sites, it's just after a little time no matter what I'm looking at. I did a search and only came across someone saying they were having a problem but it was a xoom and they were also rooted. My transformer is all stock and only about a week old. Does anyone have any suggestions or anything? Besides that I love this thing. Thanks for the help.
some sites are inaccessible without crashing to the desktop. Web browsing is one of the major use cases for the transformer. It will be nice if this geta fixed.
Are you serious? I researched tide tablet for weeks before i decided on it. I knew about the cameras and taking videos not being good, I knee there was a chance for light bleed, and also that there were some problems with hd video playback sometimes. I hadn't read anything however on browsing problems. I tried Firefox and opera along with dolphin and they all stop and crash. I don't understand why someone didn't mention this in their reviews with it being a problem. I've had no problems with light bleed, video playback and the camera is fine for me, but the browsing problem would have dissuaded me from purchasing if I would have known. Is there no fixes at all?
The problem is java script, try to disable java

On Monday I'll have my Transformer for 2 weeks. I just started having browser crashes yesterday only after a couple of minutes of browsing. This has happened on yahoo & xda. At the time I was trying to copy & paste. What I don't understand is I wasn't having problems before.
Also, I am unable to do a search on XDA. The search & keyboard come up monetarily then close.

Yes, stock & not rooted
I never get force closing pop ups but everynow and then the browser just closes... but then it depends on the website
I;m running overclocked prime
Mine is just stock, I haven't rooted mine either. I can usually browse for 10 minutes or so before mine stops then force closes. It seems strange that it just started after 2 weeks for the one person. If the problem is Java and I turn it off won't that limit some of the sites? I hate to be limited on browsing, otherwise you might as well get a dang ipad. I hope we find a fix for this it's driving me crazy.
Stock, 3.1 not rooted. The crashing is site specific. It happens with Dolphin as well. Xscope will handle the site, but it has other usability issues (like no zoom) . Do other tablets (zoom, tab 10.1,etc) have these issues? I love paying to be a beta tester.
Same problem here, browser crashes on certain webpages without a warning, switching java off solves the problem but this shouldn't be a solution
Turning off Java Script does indeed help a lot it seems - faster loading and far less crashes. As a web technology noob what do I lose w/o Java script? I browse mostly news/science/tech blogs and forums. Not to many interactive (save Facebook of course).
Any good tips on what losing JV scrips limits?
Thanks!
This has been discussed before Its a known issues (at least to us that have them) and its pretty annoying to say the least. Turning off javascript helps in two different ways (stops crashes and speeds up browsing), but some pages wont display correctly without it.
i resolved crashes with "adfree"
I've never seen my browser as prone to crash or sluggish on the transformer. The only thing I configured is to start plugins on click only (like poor man flashblock - but I prefer it this way on my desktop Chrome too). Running stock 3.1.
i wwill try the adfree and I will post my results.
I've had my Transformer for about three weeks and besides slowing down quite a bit the stock browser and Dolphin have been crashing regularly as of last week. I'm running stock 3.1 - not rooted or anything. It's gotten bad enough that I've basically stopped using it and am using my Acer W500 and iPad. I can put up with some problems in a new unit but if I had known that Honeycomb was as buggy as it seems to be so far I probably would not have purchased this.
i got mine last week, the default browser performance is unacceptable. It just crashes without any warning. Clicking comboboxes , checkboxes and even links in some cases is far too difficult to get right with one go, there are instances where you simply cant do it at all , even after zooming all the way in. Turning off JavaScript is not an option for me, there are simply too many sites using JavaScript for their manus n stuff. Now using dolphin browser, seemsmuch better, but still unreble.I am a huge android supporter, i have a galaxy s and i love it. But recently i compared this against an ipad 2, i hate to say this but with current firmware (3.1 stock, not rooted) this tablet is far inferior to the ipad when it comes to web browsing. I hate apple products, but at this point id rather have an ipad, over this

I just wanted to make a quick video of the speed of the tf700 on JB. I know alot of you are saying that this tablet is buggy/has i/o issues/ lag etc... but honestly i think this thing flies. If your tablet is not performing like how mine does in the video, you might want to either reinstall JB and/or do a COUPLE COLD REBOOTS. Honestly these help out alot for any update.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-zviGW1SvIg
Also note the speed with the heavy live wallpaper set to max, no lag what so ever!
[EDIT] Here is another video, i loaded a bunch of apps in the tray and started switching between apps. I have the dock attached, 2 sd cards, live wallpaper on full resolution and battery usage, and google now updating for sports. As you can see its effortless.

Mine is fast as well...I did manage to make it slow down.....while running Nova Prime with 7 screens and close to a dozen widgets running...but even with all that running, it would still play a full size AVCHD format .m2ts file in BS Player butter smooth.
I have no "buyers remorse" what so ever. I think Asus put out a rockin' tablet with the 700. In my experience with it so far...what is not to like?
Thanks for the vid,

You spend most of your time switching between home screens, which is not a big challenge. Instead, try launching and using actuall apps and games, especially when doing a file operation in the background. You'll see the lag that people are talking about.

Honestly there is no difference. Currently i have the xda app open, along with both stock and firefox browser( firefox is able to play espn videos while the stock is just fast), my google voice and talk are also open ( talking to friend in NY and texting mom), i just opened YouTube to look at the comment left on the video you just viewed and i also have the world of goo going...all with that live wallpaper you see in the video. Honestly i have pushed this tablet to the limits and i still dont see any problem.
If you really want i can make another video showing me opening up every app i have, switch between them and show that there is no slow down?

As was stated, if you want to prove or disprove IO issue, do run 17 apps, that's mostly memory. Kick off a large download then launch a browser an see how it loads and even after loading how it scrolls and respond to link clicking
While my tab generally performs well I did notice some IO lag come back with the JB update.

Great idea. Perhaps ones concerned about performance should do the same and show exactly what they are seeing. Mine is just like yours. I now even run on power save as jb took away the navigation lag during the mode. Chaos rings even runs fine on the power save.
Try actually using the tablet, like using Maps for directions, finding a place, then use the browser for reviews, info, etc and maybe Yelp, Tripadvisor etc for other information. The tablet grinds to a halt once the OS has to start removing cached processes to free up memory, which again triggers a ton of (SQLite) I/O operations which is really bad on the useless NAND that Asus chose for this otherwise great tablet.
On another note, I was typing up this post (well, about the same) earlier and the tablet froze, and rebooted, stuck at the Asus logo. I had to reset it by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. The latest JB update has definately NOT fixed these freezing/rebooting issues.

Maybe it's because i'm used to Windows XP, but I haven't noticed any lag on mine, even when running Navfree, stockbrowser 3 tabs, where's my perry, Photoshop mobile and mxplayer at the same time.
Does anyone use Kindle? I find it really slow at scrolling and sometimes it got a big white cropped field when trying to scroll down...
Posted new video. I really don't want to make a 20 minute video detailing every single thing i do on the tab. The apps you see loaded are on the lower end (number wise) of apps i usually have loaded at once. This tab has completely replaced my laptop so i am always on it. Basically take what you see in the video, add like 4 more apps and expand the video by an hour or so and this is the SAME performance i get...No slow down or glitches. Infinity FTW!

I have noticed that the stock browser will load a page faster than before but immediately lags afterwards for a couple seconds, preventing scrolling. My biggest gripe is text entry via dock now. Copy and paste is VERY wonky still. Set default keyboard to android etc..... whatevs....
Thanks. That's more like the experience I was expecting. Mine is worlds apart, with stuttering, lag while switching apps and impossible to use browser. I'd post a recording but I had it sent to the lab a couple days ago. Hoping it comes back like yours.

Actually I spend most of my time in my e-mail apps answering email or in a word or spreadsheet app typing stuff or digesting LARGE .pdf files. I haven't installed any games yet and probably won't. I game on my PC....(mostly FPS).....now if I could get Tribes Ascend to run on this Infinity gizmo...SHAZBOT!
Any machine can be made to lag, stutter or crash. The TF700 does what I need it to do quite well.....could it be smoother?.....sure...but why, and how much would it cost?
A challenge? Download an 8+ gigabyte multi-volume RAR archive over wi-fi and unpack it. (not only CPU intensive, but the read / write operations are pretty staggering as well) ....
The Infinity did a fine job of it and in short order.
Cheers!

I guess no one noticed the tablet locks up for 10 seconds in the video? When the OP taps the URL bar in the browser at ~0:53 the tablet stops responding completely. So you spent a minute and a half swiping between homescreens and tapping the notification tray, but of the 30 seconds you spent doing anything else, the tablet was unresponsive for 10.
That's proof there's no lag, right?

Thanks for your response, I assume other file types are fine on kindle. However, normally I use PDF which causes lag during scrolling up and down the pages, and scrolling to next page sometimes freezes up also.
Cheers

Wait what? lol the tablet didnt lock up at all, i was actually deciding what website to go to while at the same time thinking of the next app to load. Also the first time i put my finger to the bar i didnt actually tap the screen. The second time i had to look down a the keyboard while holding the phone to type. The videos is blurry, but the tablet immediately responds to my touch with a prompt to type. No lock ups or slow down

The URL menu dropped down (1:02) when your finger was nowhere near it in response to when you touched it earlier. You also need to change the batteries in your smoke detector.
I'm updated to 4.2.1 on my N7 (factory, no root/rom) and with books like the Nexus 7 Manual, I've selected the blue pin icon and downloaded the books to the devices memory for offline reading. Or so it seems...
When I go to open the book and resume my reading it takes a good 5-7 seconds for it to open and sits at a 'Loading' screen. Also, if I'm in the book and decide to swipe back a few pages quickly, or forward, I see that loading screen again. Basically it seems like it's not actually downloaded but rather coming through the cloud. I've tried this with a few books and they all appear to be downloaded but open quite slow.
Am I missing something or does it normally take a while to open books as well as browse through them?
Noticing the same thing on my N7. I don't have a big sample, but in my case it's a particularly larger book (ESV Bible). Jumping around or flipping several pages rapidly results in long waits for text to appear. I first thought the downloaded text or some search index was corrupt, so I blew away all app data and tried again. The problem persists.
This could just be a general problem with the tablet. See if anyone else has the same problem or let Google know

I seem to be having a weird issue with my S8+. Whenever I open a Facebook notification, instead of going into the already open Facebook app and refreshing to the Notification point, I get a new Facebook app instance launched (up to 3 at a time).
Also the erratic notifications are not visible in the main app, even if I refresh.
I have only one Facebook account, no third party FB apps. Just the Facebook (not Beta) app and FB Messenger app (and that works OK).
Given that the FB has burned through half my 2GB data allowance this month I'm inclined to blame some of it on the triple instance eating through resources.
I've been reading a lot on how the real FB app is a total battery hog and Data hog due to running background processes. I can't comment on your odd issue when opening FB but suggest you consider an FB alternative. I'm trying out Friendly for FB. It includes Messenger too. Seems to be way less intrusive (running in background) but I can't quote any stats for you. I am seeing better battery life now. I don't look too much at data usage since I have unlimited. Good luck!

It's because the Facebook app sucks. I would suggest turning any auto play/upload options to save data by the way.

Yeah that was burning a lot of people when Facebook first enabled it and of course it's on by default in the app when you install it clean.
Same issue!
I'm also a Nexus 6P upgrader, and I'm experiencing the same issue! It's actually the ONLY annoyance I have with the 8+, though I was also quite fond on generic Android, so I'm working to adapt my phone settings to that experience, as much as I can...
I'll be interested to see if there's a solution to this. Currently, I'm just avoiding clicking on the notifications, or remembering to close the extra Facebook app(s) if I do.

I have at times used many alternatives like Friendly, especially with my Nexus 6P which had an awfull battery, but keep going back to FB apps. Seem more featured and polished to me.
Yeah I have this too not seen a fix yet
Same thing happening to me. Are you also getting the Facebook status bar issue where it's going wonky all the time?
I think as a workaround if you just launch FB app and go to notifications within the app you are fine. As you said if you go from a FB notification it seems to open a new FB process which is definitely not good for battery or memory.

Problem is the app doesn't show the (same) notifications I get from SystemUI. So I get different notifications from Android and different from the app. It's like they are fighting each other.
I tried disabling the Samsung preinstalled Facebook packages but the issue remains.
I seem to have resolved the issue.
First a couple of notes.
I've had the phone since May. I got the June and July updates, but issue was not resolved.
I did a full reset and issue persisted.
I did a full reset without any restores from Google or Samsung. Didn't even login to my accounts. Same thing.
So I did a full flash of the latest official ROM using Odin. In the process I used the European unbranded CSC instead of my provider's (CYV Cyta Vodafone).
Problem solved. So apparently it was something to do with that specific branch. Minor market would also explain why I seem to be the only one reporting this.
Hmmmm! I seem to have this problem. Not rooted on a G955W. Anymore clues?
I do have it as well
Same issue on note 8
I seem to have a similar issue where Facebook will have more than one instance running after a while. I can alternate between the two instances running by pushing home and then going back into the app so for instance it will be in a video where I left off and then when I push home it will go to a an instance where I am commenting on a post and then when I push home again and go back it will go back to the video. The only way to temporarily fix it is to force quit the app for me.
