ONE UI 3.0 UPDATE - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

Just wandering when the update will come ?!? 2022 ??

OneUI 3.1 just came out a few days ago with the latest firmware (Android 11 March update).
If you are waiting for your operator to offer an OTA update you might wait a while.

it came at 04/27 https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G970U1/XAA/G970U1UEU5GUCG

DO NOT update if you are unlocked. Damnit, they said way back not to take upgrades post March if you are unlocked.
I can't downgrade now or ODIN flash prior versions. Doesn't look like I can install TWRP. Have to see if I can install Magisk and still be rooted.

I'm still on Pie and One UI... running fast and stable.
All too many times the updates turn into a raw deal especially will Q and above.
I have zero incentive to "upgrade".
Not getting the CCP vaccine either

Yes, I really had no reason to upgrade. And now I may have flushed all that time and money to unlock down the toilet. Had things running really well rooted, too

That sucks... more lessons from the school of hard knocks.
I'm not rooted but my N10+ runs well.
Q and 11 take more than they offer.
That's Google, they'll get something near perfect then screw it to hell. They can't help themselves.
I'm not buying their bs

Did anybody else receive an OTA this morning?

Bought my GS4 yesturday, this morning around 10am i got an OTA that was about 28mb. Not sure what that OTA did because i cant find any change log anywhere or anybody else talking about it...does anybody know anything?
Build Number is JDQ39.I337MVLUAMDL
On Rogers in Canada
You should probably have put down Rogers on the thread title. I didn't receive anything but I am no AT&T. But one more thing, I was talking in this other thread with the Canadian carrier guys. Is your Contacts and phone app white or black / blue?
Even though I'm on AT&T, I am happy for Rogers customers. Can anyone elaborate on what this update does? Hopefully it addresses the lag?
On US AT&T and no OTA. I wouldn't download any OTA's though just in-case they address the hacked bootloader.
@geoldr: The OTA was launched by Samsung globally.
Good to see you again P-Pat! I got the notification, but rooted before installing in case there was patch to stop root. After I tried to install and it said my phone has been modified and updates are not available. I am now searching to figure out how to install this....

I'm a bit confused at this. Even if Samsung releases an update, we won't get it instantly because the carriers have to test it out and everything right? Hasn't this always been the case or am I missing something?

From what I have read, so far it has been launched on Sprint, Rogers and the international version. I am sure AT&T will come soon. Samsung launches the updates, but the carriers distribute them...that is why Android version updates have different timing for different carriers.

I see. Now just to find out what this update does.
For now I will be staying away from it. I don't want anything locking up the chance of unlocking the bootloader.

This! I just rooted my phone this morning finally and froze the AT&T Software Update and FWUpdater. Should protect me from the OTA when it comes over to AT&T correct?

Somewhere I read they can force push security updates onto the phone without you even having to accept it. This is something I think they would do over the bootloader to prevent people from stopping the patch.

It will save you from an annoying notification, but you have to click to initiate the install. Also, if you are are rooted, the ota won't work. You are safe.

I figured with this method of root it wouldn't effect the update since we weren't messing with the firmware.

This is Sammy's doing, seems like they are taking a harder line this time around. I used the exact same method on my TF300 and OTAs work like a charm.

Thanks Bud!! Nice to see you too. On the screenshot you posted, it doesnt match up to mine. It was 28mb and it didnt have any mention of ''improved stability''. Im really wondering what that was, maybe the canadien version of that european release. Also the build number doesnt match up

not always, i received 2 updates on the GS3 that were released from sammy and did not go through carrier testing, unless they did it so uniformly that it didnt seem like it, but then again, telus and bell got it the same day rogers did, but those updates were stability and securtiy related, they didnt bring any features, so i guess it really depends on what the updates changes
This link confirms what David Dee was saying, it also matches my build number and size of update

I wouldnt worry too much about OTAs anymore since AdamOutler has an Odin flashable current firmware up in the dev forums.

[Q] At&t G3 update options...

All,
I'm currently rooted with towelroot. From all that I read, towelroot is the only option that won't take the update. So far, is my only option to unroot, wipe and reflash back to stock? Or there any other other options? I would like to update my radio don't seem like its available to flash yet.
Thanks for any opinion and suggestions.

No words.....
If a newer radio (which offers no promise of improved performance) outweighs the desire to have root and bump, then you should use the recovery tool to get your phone back to bone stock and then take the update. There are plenty of threads that talk about how to do this - usually from people that have taken the update and want to get back to where they were. Maybe that should be a sign for you. If you do take the update, don't come back here crying when you realize what you are missing out on....... Good luck.

This time, but what about next time? There is no guarantee that root and or bump will ever survive a OTA update.
That is correct from what I have read lolipop will be harder to root and we might not get root
or you could just flash this

System Update won't let me downgrade or root.

I made the mistake of installing the most recent system update to change my baseband to G920VVRU2AOF1 and I tried re-rooting using ping-pong root and it won't let me install the su binary. I tried downgrading to OE2 using Odin, but that was a fail. Someone please help!!

It sounds like Verizon is up to their old tricks and preventing rollback by incrementing the bootloader again. Sadly you are stuck with no way to root if you can not flash back. All you can do is try submitting your info to the pingpong root thread and hope they can root it.

Not sure why you upgraded??
There is no root for the VZW version of the phone for that or newer versions now.
Pingpong will NEVER work again since its method of exploit was patched.
Most likey, another root method will come up but most likey will trip KNOX.
This is why they have been saying, DON'T UPGRADE OR TAKE A NEW OTA, but some people don't read or follow instructions. It is and has been on the pingpong root first post for some time.

Plus when the new version is rootable by a custom ROM you still won't be able to downgrade. That leaves the high possibility to loose root when something goes wrong and you have to Odin back to stock. Hopefully 5.1.x will be able to roll back, if not I won't upgrade.

Not sure why I upgraded either. Didn't research the consequences. It was an impulsive decision. I'm pissed I can't root my damn phone, can't even flash one of my backups.
I skim when I read the threads, and then my terrible memory gets me in situations like this.
Ugh, I need an App dev to make a new rooting app.
Just read the ping pong root thread... I'm a dumbass. :/

This upgrade s!#t is exactly that, [email protected]#t!! Don't upgrade. If they're not letting us downgrade with this upgrade, they're surely not going to let us downgrade with 5.1.x.
I'm still pissed. My battery is draining because of all the bloat that I can't manipulate if I were rooted. It's bugging the heck out of me not having full control of my phone.
Of course the upgrade wasn't good and why rooted users are not taking it.

I'm the only one to blame, I'm already aware. Thanks! And I truly mean that.
Rule #1 is never ever take an OTA, just wait. I don't mean to throw salt on the wounds or anything but hopefully you'll save others from making the same mistake and I'm sure you won't make it again.
There's a lot of smart people working on this phone so don't give up hope just yet, you might catch a break. Heck, maybe a sock puppet will leak an unlocked bootloader like what happened with the S3. You never know.

It's not so much Samsung's fault, it's our damn carrier, Verizon that's making phone manipulating harder. I've had the S2, two S3's, and an S4, and I've never had issues with unlocking, rooting, abusing them until I switched to Verizon and got the S6. These damn OTA's are unnecessary.
Your so true
It's not even that, but the lack of control and uselessness of the updates frustrate me, and probably alot of other people. Verizon needs to step it up. I actually work for Verizon. And let me tell you. They are sneaky. So many people come in about bills being overpriced or something. It's awful. Anyways. I have great faith in out moddkng community and their will be a fix soon!
Hi everyone! I just rooted...super excited now! A few questions....
1. How do I disable update prompt?
2. Can I delete bloatware by using Root Explorer app or should I move them to data first then uninstall?
3. I am looking through different threads and it looks like we still can't flash much due to locked bootloader, correct? I am still on 1AOC3 haha afraid to touch anything
Thank you in advance! Loving S6!!!

Kinda curious... why did you post this to a thread about a problem "System Update won't let me downgrade or root." do you have that problem or are you just posting where ever feels good.
There are a lot of existing threads which cover what you are asking about.
Absolutely.... I posted because:
1. I searched and couldn't find a relevant thread on what I needed ...
2. I am 7 months pregnant and just love posting around random threads because it feels good.

I'm wondering the same thing. It's been a while since I've heard anything about efforts to downgrade from OE1. I'm unrooted and would so desperately like to root, but unfortunately installed stock OE1 :crying:, and then OG5. I really really hope there will be some method of rooting in my situation. Hating the fact that I bought a device that I can't use the way I'd like because some screwball company thinks people are too stupid to be trusted.
I really appreciate everyone's efforts here. Keep up the wonderful work and keep us updated!

Oh dear lord, no no no no. Stop asking the same questions repeatedly hoping for a different answer. For the last time, if you are on oe1 and didn't keep the od bootloader, that's it, you're done.
And for the record, why would Verizon release an update that would re-allow to root? Why would that ever happen intentionally?

It's true that mistakes can happen, but once they patch the bootloader to prevent downgrading, they don't actually have to touch it again. So if they don't change anything in it, then the chance of breaking it is slim to none. Not to mention this update didn't do much anyways.

It involved a security update so I was hoping maybe someone messed up somewhere :silly: one can hope. Anything OE1 or higher cannot be rooted. OG5 is higher than OE1, and therefore has the same issues for people who want to root that OE1 has. OE1 has a bootloader that disallows downgrading of firmware which is required to root these phones. The only way you can still downgrade OE1/OG5 is if you came from a rooted phone and did NOT take OTA OE1/OG5, and flashed a firmware that did not change the bootloader.

It involved a security update so I was hoping maybe someone messed up somewhere :silly: one can hope. I purchased my phone with OE1 already installed so I was kinda screwed from the ground up and going from an S4 rooted running TWRP and a Hyperdrive ROM to a stock unrooted bloated phone rubs me harsh lol

The stagefright that was incompletely patched was apparently 4 lines of code somewhere in one of the system files, wouldn't be in the bootloader. I understand the sentiments, I would have returned the phone immediately in your case. I'm already running out of patience even being rooted, with the locked bootloader and whatnot. Trying to patiently wait for the Nexus 6 2015 this year.

It has been repeated a million times though, in basically every "recent" thread so I can see why people would be frustrated. The issue is, the more people post the same questions, the more hidden the important questions get, leaving people even less likely to read/search the thread for their answers. Just basic forum etiquette IMO. I'm just a little more patient at times answering questions, that's all.

well it sounds like to me everybody in the computer world cannot find a way to unlock the bootloader that is on OE1 or higher I'm thinking surely there's somebody out there that can figure out a way to do it so I would be able to contain root against

There was an $18,000 bounty for a root method and bootloader unlock before one came out. Geohot used Pinkie Pie's findings of an exploit in all Linux kernels to create his root. He now works for Google's Project Zero and isn't allowed to provide root, and even if he was allowed, he probably doesn't care anymore. That exploit has since been patched, hence the need to downgrade to apply Towelroot. Since then, Verizon has blocked the ability to downgrade.
Notes: Bootloader is still locked despite the length of time this phone has been out. This phone is also "dying" and support is mostly gone considering many of the devs went to other devices/new S6, or devices/carriers that don't have this locked bootloader issue. Look at the Note forum. There's still not even a real root for them, they have a temporary one the last time I checked.
So no. Not only are few people looking if they are at all, but support of this phone from Verizon is probably gone as well. This OG5 is more of a mandatory security patch than a new update. 5.0 is most likely the last version for Verizon's S5 (I'd be surprised if they released 5.1/5.1.1).

You couldn't have summed up the S5 situation any better. Cheers!

Sideloading OTAs, in order or can skip?

So I was away from my computer when the January Security update came out so Im on the December update.
I would like to know can I just jump straight to the Feb update when its available or do I need to do Jan first then Feb?
im unlocked, rooted, ex kernel, google store phone. thanks.
You can just jump.
my phone is on the latest 8.1 april ota.
after the update the phone freezes when placing and recieving phone calls
is it possible to "downgrade" to the previous ota the one from march to test the phone app or will it break the phone
i googled the hell out of this but only found people flashing later releases and not previous ones
thanks

I think downgrading via OTA it's quite impossible.
You have to wipe and flash the full factory image.
damn it thats what i was afraid of.
thanks

You should've have to wipe. Just flash the full image but remove the -w from the flash all bat file. That saves data and settings. But backup to be sure.

i got the verizon varient. it seems i cant oem unlock the device.
i searched all day and cant find a technique that works so flashing the stock image is a no go apparently.
life was so much easier with my nexus 6.
damn verizon.

Time to start clearing data on the dialer related apps, or reset the phone. I am hopeful that will help you. If it was soley update related the forum would be blowing up with complaints.
Now did something go wrong with your update... I'll buy that.
i just assumed it was the april security update it started acting up around the same time. i thought maybe a crappy download
i already did a few factory resets. tried third party dialers. everything i could think of.
what really sucks is i am 3 months out of the 1 year google warranty. so i am pretty much screwed.
thanks for your help bro
i will try to sideload the latest ota.. if it is still jacked up then it is probably hardware related
what sucks is i am still paying it off and it is virtually unusable lol.. at least i can text
