Hi, I rooted an old Galaxy S4 with Odin. The phone booted successfully and worked correctly during some days. After that I installed TWRP. Tried to reboot in recovery mode and it booted successfully.
Then I tried to reboot the phone using the power key but unfortunately got a black screen: no boot at all.
So I entered in "download mode" pressing Volume-, Power Key, Home in order to flash the phone with an original Samsung rom but I got the following strange behaviour:
Pressing Volume-, Power Key, Home -> I get the first advice screen saying that I should press Volume+ to actually enter into download mode -> I press Volume+ -> the screen "download mode" appears as it was expected but vanishes after some seconds and turns to black screen.
Do you think that the phone is bricked ?
Any idea to explain this behaviour ?
Thanks
Hint: Add Galaxy S4 to front of this thread's title thus mainly owners of such phone get addressed.
Make sure your phone battery is at least 50%. Same happened to me with another brands phone. I just removed the battery and plugged back in to make sure it is powered off. Then I plugged to wall and saw it had 0% battery.

Hi, thx for the suggestion. I already tried this but it did not solve the problem.
Here are the actions I already tried without any succes:
- unplug/plug the battery then try to enter into download mode -> same strange behaviour as described previously.
- charge the battery during some hours then try to enter into download mode -> same strange behaviour as described previously.
I also mesuread the battery voltage whithout taking it off the device and the result was that the outputs is 3,8 V which is the required voltage.
Do you think that using an USBJIG could help ?

Hey all,
First time I've posted here as I can't find anything on the internet regarding this issue.
My phone is not rooted and on stock rom I (stupidly!) changed the runtime mode to ART when reading an article on how to extend battery life. I did this and then since doing that my phone won't start up and when plugged in to an outlet or a PC the usual battery icon comes on and then drops out after a few seconds, and then comes on again, and then drops out and it just keeps on doing this.
Theres a youtube video available but I can't post a link here because I'm a new user.
When the phone is plugged in to a PC it doesn't recognise the device as the power just keeps dropping out so I can't flash stock ROMS and I can't get to recovery to reflash the phone to factory settings (it just turns off)
Any genius out there to help with this?! Much appreciated

I can get to the bootloader by pressing volume down and the power button and that comes up fine, when I choose START or RECOVERY it just turns off.

Hi Lethargy, Thanks for posting so quickly, unfortunately I can't flash the factory images because when I connect the phone to a PC it doesn't pick up anythings connected because the battery just keeps dropping in and then dropping out every 5 seconds so the computer views it as not connected.

Be more specific please. Does it reboot out of bootloader, every 5 seconds, disconnect from your PC every 5 seconds, or..? Are you sure it isn't a driver issue?

When I get to bootloader I can select an option, it doesn't reboot out of bootloader every 5 seconds, the bootloader screen is absolutely fine once I get to it, when I click at option from the bootloader screen that's when it doesn't complete that action a message saying "Google" appears (the loading screen) and then the phone turns off.
I need to have the phone plugged in to get to bootloader, if I try without the power cable nothing happens.
Whether it is attached to a PC or a power outlet the same thing happens: battery icon comes up for 5 seconds, then it disappears for 5 seconds, then it comes on for 5 seconds, disappears for 5 seconds.
Any more info needed? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what you mean since those statements are a little conflicting.
Doesn't boot into bootloader when plugged into a PC?
Only boots into bootloader when plugged into AC?
If you boot into the bootloader just fine, then flash the factory images with fastboot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-how-to-flash-factory-image-t2513701

Lets check your battery level to make sure it is not gone bad or got deplated. Make sure your phone is off. Hold down volume_up key while you connect the phone to the pc. You should see the download mode screen after that you should see a next screen with the text "firmware update". Underneath that text in a textbox with white border you should see 3 characters. A "B" letter and 2 numeral. "B" means battery the two numeral means the battery level.
For example you see: B23 it means battery level is at 23%
Report me your battery level.
To restart your phone just hold down the power key for 10-15 secs
Thanks

Hi Bitdomo, when I do as you ask I can't enter download mode because it has a connection to my PC for 5 seconds and then turns off, then has a connection and then turns off.
If you go to you tube .com and then follow it with watch?v=ad7KDWp2y-8 you'll see the exact issue I'm having when connecting to a PC or on my computer (I can't paste links as I'm a new user so forgive me.) Thank you for looking into this.
Thanks

You don't need to select any option to flash the factory images with fastboot, you just need to be in the bootloader. Read the thread I linked.

Hey all, just wanted to say to everyone thats posted in this forum so far THANK YOU for your help. For the people that have found this forum and are having the same problem with their Nexus 5 you need to replace the battery and everything will work fine so it was a hardware issue this one.
As soon as I replaced the battery I could access Recovery and just reset the device with no problems.

Hello,
I flashed the latest LRX22C image on my nexus 5 today.Had flashed it clean, wiping data, cache and system etc except the Internal Storage. Then I flashed the SUPERSU 2.37 ZIP .Everything was fine for about 4 hours. Then suddenly when I pressed the power button to turn the screen off,it was not turning off and the "Switch off" mode was popping up instead .Then, when I got a call,it switched off.The phone won't turn on again. It starts, the Google Boot Splash appears and the bootanimation starts for like 2 seconds and it switches off.Same thing for bootloader mode.
Please Help me!
EDIT: Now its turning on by itself and switches off in 2 seconds!
Sounds like a bad power switch to me, but of course that is just my opinion. :good:
sounds like a mech issue.

I have the same problem on mine now... Basically my phone powered down around 45%. Battery. At the time i thought it was dead... But it wasnt. When i would plug into external power, either usb or through wireless charging it would power cycle continuously at the android splash screen.... (1 to 2 second intervals - even if i booted into fastboot) Interestingly it would never go to the battery charging mode. But automatically boot on charge... It did this for about 6 hours then i gave up and left it unplugged for a day. I plugged it back in and it started power cycling again, however this time on its third boot it came back to life . thats when i discovered i still had 40% battery... I dont know what exactly made it boot but it did. Oddly also on boot, it started optimising apps and finishing install again. I checked the md5 before I installed the update so no issue there. Since it powered up i have powered the phone off using the power button long push and let the phone power down. After doing this when i plug the phone in to usb charge it goes to the charge screen. No issue. That said, if i try to power up while tethered and charging it will not allow it. It just stays at the charge screen. As soon as i unplug the usb the power button allows the phone to power up and work... When booted up it charges as normal when plugged in. Im convinced there is an issue with the power management drivers or drivers for the button controls. My phone worked fine until the 5.0.1 update was installed. On my nexus 5. Anyone else or just us two? Ive had a hard time finding people posting on this issue.
I am using Samsung A7 (Model A700FD). During updating lollipop ROM through odin I got message "FAIL", afterwards when I restarted my phone, it is continuously vibrating and nothing does appear. Hence my phone is now in hard bricked state. There appears no any recovery or download mode - when I try to use download mode by holding Volume Down+Home+Power buttons together for 3-4 seconds, it vibrates a little bit which feels like the phone is in download mode but unfortunately no any display is shown.
Also, odin is not showing any connected port on laptop. When I hold only Power button for 4-5 seconds, it turns OFF and automatically turns ON along with continue vibrating. Currently, I have put my mobile in download mode state, by pressing Volume Down+Home+Power buttons and it does not vibrate and is silent.
One think I notice that battery is charging if I connect to powerbank, because powerbank display shows charging status and decreases its power level (i.e. % when charging) but mobile screen does not show any type of charging status.
I surfed the internet about hard bricked issue and I found Jig USB trick, on this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331782
I tried the method of jig USB cable, but phone is still not showing download mode option. I surfed the internet again and found the solution of HARD BRICK through "debrick.img", but I am new and I don't know how to make "debrick.img" for samsung A700FD. So, friends please guide me and suggest any suitable solution using your expertise and experience.
Thanks

explain the current condition of your device, is it charged? how much battery do you think it have?
Here are some simple steps you can try:
1. leave the device as is(if it is ON) or use it as much as you can till it's battery drains properly and shuts down on its own.
2. try to turn it ON by holding the power button.
3. if it turns ON, use it till it is not able to turn on(0% battery).
4. plug the charger in and see how it behaves.
5. if its charging, then let it charge to 20-30 percent and then reboot to recovery,
6. Reset your device(wipe data).
7. if it is not charging, then its a hardware issue, can be on charger's part, or in phone itself, try a new charger that is known to work.
8. if its not the charger, I'm afraid you'd need to get it checked by some repair person.

Hey Guys, sorry for my bad english, i'm from Germany^^
I have a problem... My Pixel is dead. :/
I have try to install a Custom ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/development/rom-aquarios-8-1-0-live-support-volte-t3768174 via TWRP 3.2.2.0..
1. Bootloader Unlock
2. Booting TWRP/ Installing TWRP
3. Wipe Cache and Factory Reset
4. Flash AquariOS.ZIP via ADB Sideload
5. Reboot -> Dead
No Bootloader/ Fastboot mode reachable. Only the Battery Symbol shows, when i plugged the Phone via USB to the Computer/ Charger.
Before that, Android 10 Stock was installed. The Custom ROM Based on Android 9.0.
The Device is not recognized by the computer.. I really do not know anymore.
Is my Pixel now an expensive paperweight?
If more information is needed, please let me know.
Hope someone can help me^^
Thanks.

Charge the phone first and try once again. I think it's just the battery. The fact that it vibrates when you press the 3 buttons means the phone is still alive. [the red LED means the battery is fully discharge]
Note: Release the buttons once it vibrates
