Sh-ort is a how I reimagined a URL Shortener app using Material Design to build a branded experience, through UI and Motion.
There are several apps that take care of shortening urls, and they are great at what they do but they all have more or less the same design and are a little boring.
Also when you have many urls it is difficult to manage the statistics well and to have everything at hand, maybe a general overview of how your links are performing would be fantastic - I thought - and also give the user the possibility to render the entries in the list more recognizable thanks to the preview of the article, or of the page whose URL you have shortened.
Then I thought about who could use the app, to a tempt who perhaps manages several websites for work, and who might want to see how the links belonging to the same site perform.
I have created a small app that attempts to improve the experience with URL shortener, through its structure (overview, all links, best links), the ability to filter links based on the site they belong to, the date, or whether they are added to favorites or not.
The details department is still in its early stages but you can have the complete statistics on clicks already by default, without the need for a subscription as happens in major similar apps.
Of course there is still a lot to improve, so I trust in your feedback to find bugs and to add features that I missed in this first release.
There is a complete lack of translations in all languages and dark mode, which will be implemented once the app has reached a modest number of functions and use cases, making it an attractive app for the average and pro user.
Find more information on my app design and branding process in the Medium article linked below, as well as the link to download the app.
I look forward to hearing from you and your feedback, thanks for your attention.

Hello, the login part has nothing to do with tracking, it is simply used to let the user create collections of short urls on the server, and sync it across devices.

Sorry, I meant syncing and saving, not Google tracking me.
Just installed/uninstalled, the app won't even start without a Google login.
I'm not interested in saving, collecting, or syncing shortened URL's, just sending “one and done” links from my phone. Can you tweak this to eliminate the login?

The app is designed to assign an owner to every short url so the owner can check the short url performance. If you are not interested in stats means that this is not an app that fits your needs.

Hello, thanks for reaching out but I cannot guess what is the problem just knowing your android version. For sure I can say that have not passed at least 3 hours yet since you got crashes because the crash console is flat.
Write your device model and as soon I get the report I can see what s wrong and eventually I will fix it.

The app code is obfuscated, I don t know if you would actually get something useful from it. But giving a try doesn t cost anything, right?
you can find the email where to send the log in the Google Play page of the app
Edit: by the way, the package name is it.mirko.sh_ort if you want to clean your log

Hello!
I first released this app on XDA when I started developing android apps and received some really helpful inputs from community. Now, after a gap of almost 3 years, I am reviving this app with a new vision in mind! It has been written again from scratch.
To ensure existing features don't break (and flex some coding muscles), I have kept the features almost the same and rather focused on UI (material design), performance boost, etc.

In terms of features, as of now the app allows you to:
1. Shorten links using Goo.gl (more will be added soon)
2. "Always On" mode to check all URL's you access (from outside the web browser).
3. Extract (or decrypt) short URL's.
Tip: To turn on "Always On" mode select URL Ripper as your default URL manager (the links will still open in web browser of your choice). This basically allows the app to scan URL's you are visiting from outside the web browser. You can also see the extracted/decrypted link in a dialog box (under Settings)!
Currently URL Ripper supports almost all the link shortening services including popular ones like Goo.gl, Bit.ly, Is.gd, Ow.ly, Tinyurl, Y.ahoo.it, YouTube, etc. Ad-based services like adfly aren't supported.
Link to Play Store - URL Ripper (Google Play Store)
Direct Download Link (Apk - Same as store version) - Version 3.0
I would appreciate if XDA community could again chip in and share their feedback
Thanks in advance!

Mostly it is just an android wrapper for longurl.org. Demand wasn't quite there and I didn't get any real feedback, so I kinda stopped caring for it. There is one bug I wanted to fix, but I didn't get around to do it yet.

Yeah, saw that in app description. I have a different variation planned though. More of a "complete" solution with caching, sharing, etc. But then again, all of it depends on how well is it accepted and used. Also, just a thought, I didn't want to rely on a single service for link expansion. The service dies and app dies, I don't want this to happen P.S: No pun intended. Just my 2 cents.
On a side note, I do like the url catching mechanism from other application

I absolutely agree. It was just a matter of comfort for me. I didn't want to write queries for all those shortening services API. Especially since some of the smaller ones might not even have an API. Or are you making the request and checking where the return url is leading?
Sharing was a feature I had in mind as well, but I didn't get to it.
If you find something you like, feel free to use it and if you think the source code might help, I will gladly send it to you / share the repo.

You're right. The less popular one's don't have an api or even if they do, the response time is wayward. As of now reliance is on api but I have seen header request works equally well.

Yes! Well I have though of something more for the application. I started for the first time at XDA and reviving this thread again to get things back up And xoplax should work as well! I don't see any advertisement (nor any role play of javascript in between).
First of all I'd like to apologize for my bad English and want to tell you a story.
Once upon a time I was walking down the street, reading something from the smartphone screen. I stopped at the corner, waiting for the green light, and stared back my phone. Suddenly my cap was swept away by the rear-view mirror of the city-bus passing by. It was scary a little. A second later I realized that I've just missed a great chance to get to a "better place" because of a facebook post.
Few weeks after that incident I was thinking about the way to avoid such situations in future, remebering all the times I hit other people on the street reading their phones, getting into stinky things, etc. I was searching for solution and finally decided to make an application for smartphones that will save some social-addicted people from dying yong. This app should read incoming feed aloud, freeing eyes and hands of users, making them able to (better) control the surrounding area. It must be very easy to control without paying attention to the screen - swipes, huge buttons, headset control, voice control, whatever. This app should be a media-player, streaming only the favorite music to the ears, that no radio can't perform ever. Also I have found that elder people find that app very useful because they find listening to selected newsfeeds more convenient than filtering an ordinary radio stream for the information they're waiting for. So I have started.
I'm the founder of the Speaking Mind project and I'd like to introduce you my Android application.
I am an IT-specialist with 15 years of experience in various disciplines, grown to CIO and finally decided to work on my own. At this moment this project is my one and only occupation, so I'm working hard to make it the best of the best.
This is a smartphone application that read news from different sources using TTS engine. It plays music, stored at the /Music folder on the SD-card, when there is nothing to read, or time for news ran out. Currently we're offering reading only for different predefined RSS-sources.
Later some plugins will arrive. Facebook, Twitter, SMS, Email and others.
I am looking for the early adopters, who could help me develop great and really useful piece of software. Please, try it, tell me about your experience, your wishes, anything.
-= Attention, please =-
If you somehow got Force Close error, please-please, send a report by pressing a button. It will help us a lot.
-= Thank you =-
Send me any questions to [email protected].
Thank you one more time, this is the end of this wall of text.

The most useful I can think of would be webpage text. I read a lot of articles in my browser. Perhaps, the app could put the page in a "Print View" in order to only show the relevant text and read that text aloud.

I'm not very good in English, so I'd like to explain in detail this statement: Plugin for the Pocket was requested by several our early adopters and was put in the plan to be developed just after two other plugins for the Facebook and VK. But there is one thing I have to make clear - public Pocket API allows to add, modify and destroy bookmarked articles. It does not allow to get full articles by default, but it is possible if Pocket team will accept written request about this level of access. I've made a request today and now I'm waiting for the answer.
In the worst scenario Speind users will be able to send to Pocket the articles they wish to and read them later.

We have released our first plugins: Twitter and Texts.
These plugins allows only reading messages aloud. No retweet or answer functionality in place. They'll be added later.
You can give them a try.
Guys, I need help.
Google has suspended my Twitter plugin with the "REASON FOR REMOVAL: Violation of the intellectual property and impersonation or deceptive behavior provisions of the Content Policy".
I don't understand what was wrong. Our app strictly follows the guidelines for using API, for using logos and so on. App description was clear and overall the app do mimic as official app or so.
Looks like someone in moderation team has got up on the wrong side of the bed, but the app is suspended atm. I wrote a petition, but I'd like to have an advice from the developers community.
How do you think, isn't it a logo of the app is the reason to suspend it? Or may be you have noticed something else?

We came to the same conclusion. Now we have changed the visual presence of the plugins. Hope that it will not provoke another act from the Google.
This is our new logo for all the plugins coming.
How do you think, will it provoke any actions or it's acceptable?
We have followed all guidelines very carefully and pixel-precisely.

According to this guide (https://about.twitter.com/press/brand-assets), yes.
Twitter has blue and white logo. And the rules for usage.
Do: Use the Twitter bird to show that your product or device is compatible with Twitter.
Don’t: Display the Twitter logo or trademarks larger than your own marks.
Give me your opinion if you believe that I'm wrong in mine.

Hi all,
I've made a super simple app for reading news using news-api. It shows sources (groupped by categories). So in short, app can:
Add xml feeds sources to the app
Show each source latest news
Show a preview of news (with basic Share and Open in browser options)
Tries to fetch the full content of the news including images
Show latest news of Favorite sourcess
Shows you a bookmarked list or articles
Download on Google Play Store: Latest News

Thank you for being an alpha tester. Please keep in mind that...
I'm opened for requests/ideas
I'll even fix any bugs you find!
Will change the name of the app to something better, since "latest news" will return at least 3029482093480 items when using search on google play store.

Rollout of new release has started:
Version 0.0.1 build 6
- Improved speed of scrolling in Favorites list and News of Source
- Implemented the grabber system which fetches the whole article and parse possible text of article including images (this is alpha of alpha app!)

Another huge update being rolled out today: Custom feeds!
There's been lots of refactoring, small fixes and improvements, but the biggest thing is finally implemented. Adding custom feeds. Just add the url of the news page or direct feed url (example http://www.cbc.ca/news), select a category and hope for the best!
Feel free to report any bugs you find.
After some release-break, here's yet another one. This has been an amazing month with a-lot of effort going towards development. Started as a simple newsapi client, I've got a few requests for which, I was sure it will take a while to implement them all. Since today, Latest News includes:
- a superb wizard just to remind you its beginner friendly,
- revamped source adding, which doesn't relly on newsapi anymore but uses own methods to fetch xml feeds and parse the data,
- super awesome grabber(tm), which downloads and parses the whole article from the websites, removes everything except the text story and images.
- an awesome back-end synchronization, which makes sure, your sources are always safe,
- and increadible new and redesigned menu (yea, this deserves a place on the list too!) and extra animations
It has been an awesome month.
Now, its up to people to start using it
Another update has been pushed to beta channel:
- added feeds Gruenderszene, NBA, JS weekly, Android Police, XDA-developers, Mac Rumors
- update sync so it will now handle a conflict between different remote/local entries; you will now have options to overwrite local, db or merge both,
- added read flag to article after it has been read.
- fixed the issue with images not being overwritten after refreshing the articles
- fixed the width of items which text isn't long,
- synchronizing favorites should now also work better
Enjoy!
Hi everyone! I'm happy to announce the first PRODUCTION release being rolled out.
Enjoy and don't forget to submit any bugs you find or feeds suggestions you would like to see in the app.

Wow the app is really cool. I will give it a try for a few days and see what It can do.
Just a question: can you add a way to login using Google account? There's a lot of passwords to remember and using Google is much better, with synchronization is superb.
PS: If you need someone to help you translating to portuguese let me know.
Finally an app that allows me read short rss feeds in full. Loves it. Please any plans for an import feature so I can import my feedly subscriptions? Thanks
plans to add to XDA labs or f droid?

Hi @udegbunamchuks - Just checked the OPML generated and yes, this is doable. You woulld like to see an option to import the exact OPML file, right? Sadly, it will take longer than one afternoon. Hope to keep you in the app until then :good:

With that, do you just mean if I plan to list the app on both services or completely open-source the code?
listing mostly but OS would be nice also.
feel like it would get more love at xda and f Droid.
btw been testing it and working great. been looking for a good rss reader for a long time.

None of my sources in this app shows any pictures. I even added MTV News since you used that in your screenshots and yours shows pictures for each article. It doesn't show any pictures on mine.

good evening @sourbear and thank you for your report. Just for test, please try adding "neowin". There are A LOT of sources, that just don't add image as leading article image (default rss image for specific article). However, it just happened none of your picked up source articles currently dont include any images.
MTV, at that time, had images, I've tested it again and what you found is correct. (Shame on them! ). Give them all a day or two.... you will start seeing them eventually. :good:
math in blogs
This is a great news for me, as I have been using feedMe for some time, but it cannot display mathjax properly.
So, two questions, do you plan to add mathjax/mathml support, and offline support as well?? Right now I tried https://terrytao.wordpress.com/feed/ and the math is not shown properly. Some formulas appear too big, some don't appear at all. Thank you for your work @greglord

Hi there
I will take a look immediatelly what's going on with those formulas!
Update @gilcu3
Just checked the source of the article and... oh my So far, I've made the formulas visible, however, since there is so much mixing between paragraphs and images (formulas), the "grabber" does not add texts to the full story. I humby ask for re-test after new update. If the content isn't something that suits you, I will invest more time and refactor the grabber to be more smart.
Get Looxie from the Play Store!
Looxie is a location-based photo request app that I released back in 2016. The premise is simple: you go on the map, select a location you want a photo from and send your request to that location. Any users within one kilometer will receive the request and they can respond by sending you a photo.
The big twist? They can only send photos by actually taking them with their camera: gallery uploads are not allowed. Practically, this means that any photo you receive was taken seconds earlier and essentially is a real-time depiction of that location. The practical applications are numerous (Is the sea choppy? Is the bar I want to go to packed? Is there a lot of traffic on the A2? What's up in the Mongolian steppe right now?) but it's also really exciting to simply know that the photo you got depicts something at the other side of the world as it is right now.
Late last year, I decided that the app looked positively archaic, so I went ahead and rebuilt/redesigned it from the ground up to make it prettier and faster. I think the redesign is very successful and the app is indeed much faster and much easier to use.
Here is what it looks like:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I will probably be adding some premium features as a very cheap subscription (full-res photo downloads, for example) in the hopes that they'll at least cover the Firebase costs but anybody who registers an account by August 9th, 2019 will get all premium features for free.
I will be happy to answer your questions and read your comments!
Bumping the thread with actual links. I'll be around to answer any questions and respond to comments.
Really liking this app. Now I am getting requests one after the other from the same user. It would be nice if there was a cool-down time, I'd say, once every 2hrs between requests times from the same user
Amazing idea but..
1. When I use the search function, I can't actually click on a photo to be able to view it and zoom in. All it does when I click that it switches to the next photo and the same happens with Sent Looxies.
2. No full screen viewing available!
3. Settings is grayed out and I can't access it?
4. I can't view the likes of a certain image!
5. I am getting a ton of requests of user NewbieTown, is it a bot?
When i click the camera button to take a picture it opens the stock camera(xiaomi) but I don't really like the pictures from it so I use a google camera port , do you think it's possible to choose from the camera app?
Hey! You should be able to use any camera app you want. I'm almost never using the stock Pixel camera, instead I use something some effects, like Vignette or Cameringo.

Hey, thanks! Totally my fault for not communicating this more clearly in the app but each of these requests are actually from a different user. Whenever a new user signs up, they have the option of sending a first contact request, ie. send a request to every user in the world (just once).
So what happened is that with the sudden influx of users (due to the XDA feature) LOTS of people got to use their first contact requests and everybody was flooded with those things. I should absolutely find a way to combat that but I don't want to take the first contact functionality away from new users. The problem will eventually solve itself, of course, when things go back to normal, with 3-5 registrations per day.

Hello there.
You are right on every count, the app is pretty frustrating right now. This is partly down to the fact that it's a ground-up rewrite, so some functionality that was there in the old app is still missing but also due to the fact that I'm a lone developer working on it after 10-hour marathons in my day job, right after I manage to put my 2-year old son to sleep. I still love it, though. Let me answer your questions one by one.
1. All of the functionality you're describing is coming within the month. I'm taking a much-needed two-week off from work so I'll be able to focus on Looxie almost exclusively.
2. Also coming soon!
3. I know I sound like a broken record, but also coming soon. I have quite of bit of stuff to put in there, it won't take too long.
4. At this point you know the answer.
5. Nope, totally not a bot. It's new users signing up and using their first contact request (which they can use only once). Thingss should go back to normal, with about 5 first contact requests per day. Just give it a bit of time.
Thanks for your comment, I wanted to clear some of this stuff up anyway!

Thanks for the quick reply, I've edited the Google Play rating of the app to 5 stars.
However, you should've mentioned that the app has features that are still being optimized.
Possible to run on microg?
Love the app, just switched to a phone with lineageos 16 and microg. When I enter my username and password, it just hangs logging in. I then tried backing up the app on my old phone with adb backup then restored it to my new phone. The first time I started looxie, I was logged in and could see the feed. Now everytime I start the app, I get an empty feed that never updates. Also, my username is not displayed in the menu. Any ideas on how to get it working with microg?

Hey Jeff! I've never tested the app on a device with microg, unfortunately. Unless the microg package includes an implementation of FirebaseAuth, I cannot see it working. I'll need to check and see though, so stay tuned. If you're the Jeff from the app, it's nice to see you here, thanks for all the awesome photos :good:

Thanks, It looks like microg doesn't support FirebaseAuth currently, there are a few issues in github for it. I'll try agian when they have it supported.

Hi,
I just discovered your app and it looked interesting so I thought I'd give it a trial run. I previously had been using the personal dns filter app which seemed to function pretty well.

Hi,
Of course this comment is SOLEY just my own comment, but for me I would like your app much better if upon booting up my phone that I wouldn't have to view the app start screen everytime. This is what I would classify as 'constructive criticism', & nothing more, I'm NOT trying to be rude in any way !
Thanks,
David

Thanks for your 'constructive criticism'. The Android os requires it (apps should appear on the screen before starting protection services).

Hi,
While I do of course appreciate your response, while I was using the previous app that I was using (Personal DNS Filter) I never had to see a starting page like your app always displays, it just booted up & displayed the shield emblem & key symbol up on my notification bar.

Thank you so much, we will try to fix it in next release.
Great app.
It lacks the ability to customize the filters and the option to let some programs access the internet without filtering (useful to see ads in games).
There is already another program with the same name (adlock.com).

Hi,
At least for me it makes a HUGE difference to have positive communication between a user & the developer of an app. That's what you have been providing & I'm grateful for that, on a positive note about the app, when I open the twitch app on my phone while using your app it displays the elements within twitch a lot faster than it does than with the previous app I had been using.
Excellent now I will try it. Can you add the option to block a whole group of applications at once? thanks

The app has been renamed to AdLocker on the complaint of the copyright holder. I am sorry that we used your trademark!!!!
