Which is the best custom rom for the poco x3??? - Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC Questions & Answers

I want to do some rom research in this week until I can unlock bootloader.
I prefer an Android 11 rom but if there's an Android 10 rom that works flawless I will not refuse to install.
Thanks.

ArrowOS, I can't stop recommending it enough.
It's Android 11, it's silky smooth fast, has Safetynet certification right out of the box (banking sold, pokemon go and other apps that depend on it work just fine) also NFC payments. Everything just works.
Also timely OTA updates (just be sure to use Orange fox instead of TWRP) and constant 120hz if you so wish.

I'll check it. Thanks.

I just hate Android 11 ROM's because the 3rd party launcher and gestures issue, but 80% are Android 11. I tested some ROM's and in my opinion, none is perfect.

How is camera? I am on wave os and camera here is kinda average. Only reason i am thinking to switch back to miui is because of camera but MIUI is kinda jittery, wave os is smooth.

Hey, are you still on arrow? What battery temperatures you get? My phone is at 29 on idle and goes to 33 in minutes after i start using it. I think it's a little more than stock mi rom, can you share what temps are you getting?

26 when idle and I think 30 when using it. I wouldn't worry, this phone has liquid cooling so the heat generated from the CPU shouldn't affect the battery's temperature.

Yeah i understand it has liquid cooling but why mine is at 28 even on idle state? Maybe i should factory reset?
Also are you on stock kernel or f1xy? Besides what's the room temperature at your location? That might also be a factor. Here it's around 15C
Alo I'm in auto brightness with 120hz forced. What are yiur setting?

Room temperature is 22.7C°. I'm using auto brightness with 120hz forced, I'm using ArrowOS's stock kernel instead of F1xy (deep sleep bugs made me reinstall the original stock kernel).

I wouldn't worry much about room temperatures, those are healthy temperatures either way and everything's a factor for those:
Room temperature
Hands temperature
Case you're using
Apps you're using
If it doesn't go over 40C° then it's not something to worry about.

It's like 26C here and my phone is at 34C rn (tho I'm using it for like 30 mins now)
I think i should reflash or factory reset.
I get your point about temperature but if i play a game on it, i think it'll cross 40 since it's reaching 34 35 on normal use (fb, whatsapp)
I moved from stock miui 12.0.7, flashed rom, cleaned system in orange fox.
In what order did you flash?
Sorry for bothering you tho

It's ok, I like helping.
As of now, I don't trust F1xy's kernel just yet, can't have my personal froze deep freeze like that (I depend on my alarms for work too much).
I did the same as you:
MIUI
Orange fox
Wiped everything
Installed ArrowOS
Format Data

I flashed f1xy just like an hour back to check temps, temps are still there. Not sure about alarm but everything else js working ok for me, i receive instant notifications, ambient display on etc
I think I'll wait for today's nightly and flash it clean.

So, do you recommend ArrowOS? I have also see CrDroid rom and don't know which to pick.
Also, what version of Orangefox have you installed? I see in the thread in the OP there is a "OrangeFox-R11.0_6_Alpha" and in page 6 there is a "OrangeFox-R11-Unofficial-Beta"
Tomorrow expirates the 7 days wait to unlock the bootloader and will install everything

I haven't tried crDroid, I've tried evolution and wave os.
Out of all these, i prefer arrow. Arrow is smooth, devs are active, updates are daily (optional tho, you can easily turn off auto update or set reminder for it)
I think try all the roms and choose what suits you best.

I do. I haven't used others because they aren't Safety net certified thus some apps will not work (banking apps, NFC payments, nintendo games) and this one is fully legit.

Hi ! I have a Poco and I want to install ArrowOs.
I have never installed Custom Rom, I have a question about security.
Can I use this Rom without danger ? Can I use bank app ? Is there a risk for my bank data ? My passwords ?
I just want to install OrangeFox Recovery and ArrowOs. No root, no magisk. Just the Rom.
Thanks !!!

[Q] Why is my N5 so slow ?

I can't really put my finger in the cause, it seems to follow all N roms (though most are based on LOS, so..)
Sometimes the device crawls to a standstill, until i'm able to close all open apps, and then it gets snappy again.
I would consider this device at least as fast as my M7, but although the One is slower in general than the N5, it never gets slower...
I don't have weird apps installed, the most crazy ones are the Facebook messenger and chrome, the rest is google apps and whatsapp...
mine is showing same behaviour since a few days ago, ive enabled sync and enabled cm email, others things ive done is installing tumblr, i think some apps that works on 2nd plane arent managed well with ram autokill and somewhat with persistent services.
ill clean flash and disable sync forever [emoji14]
other thing ive noticed is other storage is permanent oversized and the phone cant really know whar is this
Pure CAF @ crLOS14.1
Is it insanely hot when it slows down? If that's the case it's overheating for some reason.
I used to have that problem last year. I kind of fixed it after I formated the memory while I was trying to have F2FS. I knew i'd lost everything in the memory so I did a backup and trough TWRP changed the partition to F2FS and it helped a lot. A friend's tab had the same problem and he fixed it that way

Or maybe it went out of memory? Although I doubt it. One thing that comes to mind is mpdecision, sometimes it shuts down all cores except 0 and won't switch them back online, forcing you to do it manually or somehow wake it up. Have you tried keeping tabs on your cores with a monitor app? Anything mpdecision-rated in logcat when the crawls happen?
I was on Catacalysm until nougat, which can be considered stock. didn't have speed issues then.
when I flashed nougat all 3 roms i flashed had annoying lag which was not acceptable.
eventually me and other users discovered it was happening because of the memory filling up.
apparently the phone needs quite a bit of free memory to work well. tweaking memory management through kernel editor solved it for me.
I can't tell for sure if that's your issue but u can give it a try.
What I do is that I clean flash about every six months, generally upgrading to a higher version of android (stopped after 6.0.1 tho cuz of xposed), after backing my media. Once I restore that after the flash, I always have more space available than pre flash and it feels a lot faster. Might be a placebo, might not. But is it stupid if it works?

Your findings are consistent with mine, it seems the device is running out of memory and is trying to swap out heavy apps to make do, namely chrome and facebook. While it's doing that, it's slow as hell. I've also had launcher re-start, like if the OOM had it killed.
Which settings did you tweak ? LowMemoryKiller ?
Yep, LMK set to exterminate.
I wonder what the original configuration was, not only for LMK but also CPU gov etc, Because honestly I think that even after tweaks it was still better on stock.
In general nougat doesn't really add much for me, M was great, I was in a hurry to upgrade because I had play services battery drain bug on M. That was terrible.
Also I noticed mine is thermal throttling really quickly, I don't know if its normal or not. I've been thinking about improving cooling with a mod but at this point my N5 is on its way out. In november I'll close 4 years with it and I'll get a new device (maybe 1+5?)

It's all because of memory,
3/4 cores are going offline and online regularly, but sometimes cores won't go online which create frizzing untill cores get online,
For solution you should be first root then install kernel editor you like and edit core to performance or high performance,
That solved my problems.

What gapps are you using? Using pico or Beans mini will let you put most of your Google apps on the user partition and not the system partition. You could also try an AOSP based ROM instead of a LOS based ROM like Krexus, Pure Nexus or Tesla

Using small gapps packages frees up space in /system, I never use full gapps packages on my Nexus 5 and I've never experienced this slow down you're having.
Pure Nexus just updated on May 13th, Tesla updated today. If you choose to flash one of them, be sure to wipe system in advanced wipe as well as data and caches before flashing

I don't think the suggestions in the last few comments will help. I'm pretty sure it's mainly a memory management settings issue.
if you want here's my profile in synapse (kernel settings editor you can find on google play). I'm currently testing it for a few days and it seems good so far but I still need to test it under really heavy load.
I'm running nitrogenOS with the kernel that comes with it. if you run something else you may have to tweak it a little.

New life for my old Nexus5

Hi guys,
I wrote some time ago here for a combo of rom/kernel, but then I understood the battery of my phone was dead, so I decided to change it for an lg g4. I broke the screen of g4 and it's too expensive to fix, so I decided to change the battery of Nexus 5. I know this is a dated phone, but I don't have money for a new phone or to fix the glass, so now I have to use it.
Now I ask you for rom and kernel for daily use. I would prefer something Nougat based. I used PureNexus and ElementalX on Marshmallow, the last PureNexus seems fluid and stable, but unofficial.
What do you suggest for my Nexus 5?
Thank you for all replies.

I too am in the position of having to use my Nexus 5 (6P started boot looping) I am running Lineage OS 14.1 and it is running GREAT!
I use my Nexus 5 for a year now. I tried several roms and kernels and purnexus nougat + elementalx is the perfect combination for me, since it offers the best battery life.
I never had any issues with the rom.
If you turn off gps, sync(especially gmail) and undervolt* the snapdragon 800 and lower the clock a bit( i use 1.7 ghz) you can get about 5 hours of sot!
The phone is still very fast if you dont use slow apps. Even underclocked...
* most nexus 5 work well if you set the lowest value to about 700 and leave the steps up as elementalx sets them
best wishes!
I have found in trying most of the current ROMs that if you want Sprint service you must stay with >6.0 versions. The SIM card read of data on SIM is spotty at best. Some one mentioned it is not "Sticky" will work some times and all the various patches installed at ROM first install don't work...in my case never for reboot after setting up ROM app's and using. My way around this trouble is to use a GSM mvno (FreedomPop) or Tmobile just not good coverage in my local area. I like most of the features of Ver 7.0 + roms
I'm currently running Lineage 14.1 CAF and Noncaf....I like the CAF Battery setting slider for different current/battery drain. The Noncaf can use any Kernel if you like that approach to increase battery Life. In the two N5's one has a new battery and the other old...almost a 3 to 1 difference in longevity so best choice is a aftermarket battery replacement too.
DARK ROM [OMS][Pixel features]
i'm running paranoid android and i find it cool, but however, it's the first ROM i flash on the nexus 5.
i love having the nougat notification system, plus the immersive mode, and battery life is better than stock.
sincerely i don't find useful on the spot control and navigation pie, but that's just something that depends on my usage i guess.
can't understand how to activate floating peek, nor if it's still active in this version
sadly i hoped in something snappier, it looks a little laggy sometimes, doesn't support xposed (causes bootloop) and camera doesn't include HDR+ (installing the google official camera and enabling hdr seems to change nothing, so basically is useless) but many users find paranoid camera fantastic.
i'm trying to understand if there is something faster than this without losing cool features (like notifications), maybe with something based on kitkat/lollipop tweaked?
if someone has suggestions, tell me! btw i'll keep you tuned. still loving nexus 5 and it must survive!

I'm new to using anything but stock. My rooted nexus 5 marshmallow runs fine with a new battery and several xposed modules but I would like to escape from Google surveillance. Is lineage a good choice for that? Do I just download it and flash it through twrp? Are there instructions on how to flash and use Lineage?
What rom is best for privacy?
Thanks.

IMO, yes, Lineage OS is a good choice for that. You have to install the Google apps separately, so if you want to be Google-free, you would just not install those. I've been impressed with how well my N5 runs with LOS. Better than with any previous stock version, really. I did keep the Marshmallow camera app, but that was just personal preference. LOS comes with a pretty full-featured camera app of its own.

aren't nightlies more instable than the final builds?
i heard only good things about crdroid based on lineage, i think i'm about to try that
my rom queue is

-lineage(eventually)
-euclideanOS(waiting for a stable that should come in little time)
if anybody could give some feedback about those, it would be awesome

Theoretically, but I don't think there really are any final builds for LOS (for hammerhead). I kind of want the monthly security patches. I've just kept installing the weekly updates, because I haven't had any problems. There could very well be problems, but I haven't experienced them since installing in...March?...somewhere around then.
BTW, running crdroid right now and it's holy fast, even better than stock, you should definitely give it a try. Wanted to run the caf version to flash also the truesight, but it needed custom bootloader and radio, and I'm still too noob for this.
Right now evaluating flashing the ElementalX, that should work on aosp to get also the fastcharge
If you just flashed the rom, it's usually faster than a rom that you've used for months. The rom shouldnt have too much influence on the speed, the kernel and the cpu governor it uses have the biggest influence. Usually speed comes at the cost of battery life which can have dramatic results on this phone. On caf i could use the charger 2-3 times per day...
I suggest AOSP 7.1.2 + OpenGapps + ElementalX, it's much faster than official Marshmallow, with Magisk you can bypass SafetyNet check and use Android Pay.
Also you can replace the battery with 525666, it's 3020mAh
And you can replace the NAND to 64G
I've tried to enlarge RAM to 3G or 4G, but failed...
The replacement can be done easily only if you're in China, so...

CrDroid Oreo version for Mi4c

How is your opinion about this ROM.
It is very good and customizable with a ton of options.
Only thing that is boring sometimes is lag when open apps. Waiting for 4-5 seconds to.open it.
Does someone know how to avoid that lag?

Do you have those videos? I'm curious (pm me if you cant post them here).
Tried with 1.5b hate kernel...laggines is still present.
Cdroid maintener Vovan77 will not support this Rom anymore.
Now I am on RR and there is less lags but it is present.

Thanks, man, I got your link
But messing in the Settings, menus and that kind of stuff on a fresh installation seems to me the same as in Nougat. On my phone, lag appears in crDroid O (and all the Oreo builds) when I'm switching and reloading apps, with many apps installed and many processes running in the background. In this situation (regular use, not setting up the phone) I feel Nougat is better than Oreo.

Well, I'm not really complaining about Oreo, I know it was a hard work for its developers and builders and all the enthusiastic guys involved. The real accomplish was to be able to install and use Oreo for Mi 4C, almost bug-free. There are many alternatives to Oreo for Mi4C, even now, when devs are leaving its boat for other devices. MIUI 10 it's on its way, but LOS 14.1 is still developing - great work!
Personally, I'm using latest AEX Nougat and I'm happy.

Hello. Vovan77 has updated to Pie and it looks great. It's snappy at first look but multitasking has lag and battery life is terrible pls fix

edit: unless my battery is shot, gone. I don't know I'm getting terrible battery life.
edit: I have ordered a replacement battery it looks like mine is gone. I will update here after fitting it into the phone.

Hi Gourcuff14.
I have tried to run this rom, but it hangs on "G" logo (longer than half an hour). Installation was without error (but first I had to avoid error 7).
What version of TWRP are You using?

Hello 1q1q. I've been using
TWRP 3.2.3-0_libra.img

Try updating firmware if you are still on an old one but that generally shows up during install.

Hi Gourcuff 14.
Thanks for yours tips. It was necessary to wipe also data (internal storage) to avoid bootloop. All apps, contacts restored.
I'm giving up - no dialer during incoming call.
LineageOS ftw
I use LineageOS found here for some half a year without any issues as a daily driver.
The only two things that i found missing are no vibration and the fact i can not find a way to activate Camera2API, so i can not use Gcam mods. But these are not really an issue tbh.

Android Pie GSI

So, there has been released an A/B Partition supporting Pie GSI.
Anyone has installed it yet?
Bug list shows NFC, Hotspot and Android 9 Vendor.
What does the last one mean I have no idea. Some discussion would shed some light here.
I will try to install it today after returning home
Does anybody has installed the Pie GSI? How is it?
I has installed it but got no network , wifi and stuck on second reboot now to back to OOS

I wrote a little guide on Phh's thread on how to get networking, wifi and root to work. However, I would still stay away from it for now as it is extremely buggy.

But people says that HOS is very good in battery, the camera is worse than OOS camera
I am right now using Pixel Experience as daily driver. Unfortunately no magisk, hotspot, nfc, volte.
I've never seen a 10 hr SOT in other Rom. HOS is amazing!

It's good for a daily driver, bro.
An issue is that I got frequent Volte drops which gets okay with a reboot.
And recent thumbnail corresponds to a different screen rather than The one which I have currently( I have no idea if you understood what I told)
Cons : no modifications yet I think, magisk modules , better mods and different kernel aren't readily there for P afaik.
That's the only thing I don't like about this.
Pros : substratum is working
Very stable and consistent battery life. (idk how it manages to give 8 hrs every single time)
And has every Android P features asusual ..
Peace?

The camera is better, equal or worse than the OOS? As far as I know the GCamera isn't working on HOS

Maybe I'll try Gcam and let you know If it works.
Do you see the difference between the screens? (I'm typing a comment whereas the recent shows that I'm in the menu)
Hope you can understand this.
PS : I can't live without AOD., so planning to flash the 5.1.11 ?.

I'm on HOS beta 2 too. Yes battery is really not bad when U use device, but on standby its draining a bit too much, I cant reach 8 hours SOT with more then 1 day after charge. But I can reach 8 hours SOT if im using the device constantly.
On OOS i had always 8-9hours of SOT, and 36 hours after charge.. but on OOS I was using elementaX kernel.
Plus hydrogen still in beta so it possible that they going to fix stanby battery a bit.
It dont have all the features of Pie. There is no:
1. App slices/app action
2. Feature when u can share images or copy text via app swicher (recent menu)

I think the second feature is only for pixel devices if I'm not wrong. I had a pixel and it had that feature in the first beta itself. And I did read somehwer that it's exclusive to pixels
Maybe you are right about the standby time. I've never let my phone pass 24 hours mark.
Maybe i am to stupid to flash any pie gsi. I tried many ways, and always end up in a bootloop or in the crashdump mode.
And yes both guides here in the op6 forum.
Tried all gsi out a/b partition. Tried without wiping data (one time worked but acore fc every ms)
So how does someone get it boot without a problem?

It would be a shame then if it only for pixel devices..
But here is possibility that oneplus didn't implemented yet this feature. I hope so

Getting the most out of our 8T: OxygenOS + custom kernel or custom ROM?

Hello guys.
I bought an 8T during Christmas and I instantly installed LineageOS because I wanted less bloatware as possibile and more privacy, since I read some articles regarding OxygenOS telemetry and sending data back to servers in China.
I also installed a custom kernel which was GREAT, battery drain was super low and it was so smooth, but since latest builds LineageOS doesn't work with custom kernels anymore because WiFi breaks.
When flashing back Lineage's kernel I couldn't help but wonder: am I using the device to its best with this setup? I really miss the custom kernels and I noticed that most of them are supported only on OxygenOS. OxygenOS could also probably have proprietary code that is optimized to the device and full support (for example, I lose the 48 MP camera with custom ROMs. Not a big deal at all, but still)
So what do you guys think? Do you like OxygenOS or prefer custom ROMs? Can I remove enough bloatware to make it a bit lighter and secure? Is it too early to use custom ROMs with this new device?
Let me know what you guys think and what your 8T setups look like!
Thanks.
Latest OOS + root + Bluspark Kernel
Seriously I don't care about some data which will be send back to China. Not even sure if it's real.
I have deactivated all bloatware apps which I don't need or use with swift backup.
Idle drain is about 1% and i can easily reach 7h and more SOT without any other battery optimizations or kernel settings. Wifi, Data, 120hz for example always on.
So far I'm happy with it.

The main reason I'm tempted to go back to stock OxygenOS is, as you already know, the custom kernels low battery drain and great performance. I tried both Radioactive kernel and Bluspark kernel and they're amazing. I'm really tempted now to go back to stock; I just hope Oneplus won't be super slow with the updates!
Thanks for your opinion.
I am just using OOS right now, haven't had the time to try and remove/block some bloatware yet. I like oxygen OOS so haven't seen a reason to go to a custom rom. Would love to go google less, but a lot of apps I use require google services to work.
I am quite happy with the stock kernel battery time. But might try out a custom kernel soon, if so which one would you recommend. bluspark or revolution kernel?
I am also sure there will be an increase in custom kernels that support linage OS soon as well, if you just wait.

I would recommend you to try both of them for a week and judge by yourself. I started with Radioactive kernel which was really good, that's what made me fall in love with custom kernels. I tried switching to Bluspark kernel to see if WiFi worked there, but it didn't, just like Radioactive kernel, so I didn't really use it that much.
But now, if both would support LineageOS (or if I'm going back to stock), I'd go for Bluspark. The developer was really helpful in trying to debug why the kernel wasn't working for LineageOS, he even did 4/5 test builds just for me to try to debug it, even if he clearly wrote he didn't care about debugging custom ROMs.
Also, the features look better tbh, but flashing a custom kernel takes like 1 minute, so you can switch between the two really easily if you want to try both of them.
I am also sure there will be an increase in custom kernels that support linage OS soon as well, if you just wait.

I'm not sure about that, I asked LineageOS developer and he clearly said he doesn't care about making his work harder just to support custom kernels, and custom kernels developers tried (like eng_stk for Bluspark) multiple times with no success, I think he kinda gave up; he told me it was something he wasn't going to try to tackle.
Tried asking in Radioactive kernel's thread but they told me that "I was lucky it even worked before.....it's not for AOSP roms"
I have tried other custom ROMs, but always ends up going back to Stock. OOS is pretty solid at this point minus a couple of minor issues. Something always doesn't work on custom ROMs
I tried lineage and evolutionX roms but both times moved back to OOS. Its the first stock rom i like. I use magisk canary for root with a few modules and radioactive kernel which gives awesome battery life. I didn't even realize the difference till now. I haven't reinstalled radioactive yet since moving back to stock rom yesterday and the difference is night and day to me.

Blu Spark is pretty good too..Yes, OOS with either Radioactive or Blu Spark gives stellar battery life...Overnight I am losing 0% battery for 8 hours which is unheard of at least for me...
Hmm, I might wait some time to see if some other ROMs come out or I can somehow install a custom kernel, before switching back to stock. But at least I know that OxygenOS is pretty good stock! Thanks for your opinion guys. I hope Oneplus will keep releasing updates for quite some time then.
There is also Neutrino kernel coming. Alpha 3 is already out and as i have heard next update will be beta. I'm gonna test it.

Im using it right now. It's the first day and it already seems to be better than bluspark.
Idle drain is 0,75%/h. Will check further.

So far it's pretty good. Got 9h SOT yesterday at almost the same usage. With Bluspark it was like 8h maybe. They are both great kernel. Performance is similar and also system is very smooth.
