Anyone attempt to unlock the bootloader, root, or install a custom ROM? I asked Lenovo support about unlocking the bootloader and they said it can be done but would not tell me how. I don't want to buy this until I know I can root it. I am looking at the Tab P11 Pro, but that does not have its own forum (yet?)
I'm thiking of buying the XiaoXin Tab Pro (same tablet/half the price), but i have the same questions as you.
I'm in exactly the same boat, did anyone find any more info?
For "Pad P11 Pro" (or XiaoXin Tab Pro flashed with P11 pro rom), you can follow instructions here to install twrp and root.
unofficial twrp 3.4.2 Root Lenovo TB-J706F - unofficial twrp
Download unofficial twrp 3.4.2 root Lenovo TB-J706F aka Lenovo Tab P11 Pro, user who own Lenovo TB-J706F can root it by following below guide
unofficialtwrp.com
Except for step "4. Unlock bootloader" where I had to use this command instead:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
And I didn't do step 6
Don't forget that unlocking bootloader:
- wipes all data
- disables widevine Level 1, so Netflix and other streaming services fallback to low definition.
And there is no custom rom that I know of.

Were you able to root the stock ROM with Magisk?
This tablet is currently on sale for $100 off!
I am a tad confused on something, though - GSM Arena says this tablet has LTE, but the Lenovo website makes no mention of LTE...

Oy, I found the answer in a review... " in certain regions outside of the US, you’ll be able to buy an LTE-ready version of the Tab P11 Pro "
So, no LTE in the US version - which means no use to me. Guess I'll have to wait for the Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 Plus later this year.

Yes, magisk was working great.
But the widevine thing made me go back to the locked bootloader
Whatever the bootloader has to to with the DRM crap called Widevine. But as long as there is no LineageOS or any other custom rom with more features I don't see why I'd unlock the bootlader atm. I wish there was one, security patch december on a new device is not acceptable imo...
Is there a way to debloat the existing rom?

Hi, I own the Pro and would like to root. If I root with this method, after rooting, if I lock the bootloader again..... Do I still have Root? (and if yes: with what command did you relock the bootloader & does (after relocking) netflix and stuf run high-res againg?
the stock rom looks fine, but I'm concerned for updates, lenovo is known for forgetting to update the tablets, also loosing the sound quality will be something to be considered by a future rom developer

Hi, relocking the bootloader is like doing a factory reset.
You lose all apps and data (and root, obviously)
I am also having the same problem.. help .. haha
So, is there any hope for LineageOS on P11 Pro / Xiaoxin Pad Pro? I'd say that if any android tablet deserves it, this is definitely the one. It has superb hardware (honestly it feels like handling an iPad Pro) and a very sensible price on many distribution channels.
i have an issue with the bluetooth that can´t repair anything and it´s possible to be rom´s fault, the recommendation is to change the rom to another one but yeah, there is no custom roms for this device yet :s

Hey there, I know this post isn't recent, but I just discovered it and was hoping to ask a question or two.
I just picked up this tab, the J706F model, and I would really like to root it. However, when following that websites steps, including your experience of not flashing step 6, it still doesn't work. I get booted into the bootloader everytime, and there is no way to resolve this but to rescue the device back to stock. I've successfully unlocked the bootloader, and I have quite a bit of experience with tinkering around, but this has got me stuck. I can't seem to get Magisk on here. TWRP on the other hand isn't an issue. I have that installed and it works just fine.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated for getting root on this device.

Hi guys I have been rooting and using customer ROMs since the note 3 and so think of myself as quite experienced but I've just changed from a rooted S8 Plus to a brand new onePlus 7 pro 5g. And I've got some questions. Firstly are all the onePlus seven family the same for rooting as I see alot of t mobile and international being spoken are they different to my GM1920 as mine is a ee branded 5g 7 pro ? I ask this as it seems the 5g variant is way behind the 4g version on updates and so would like to root and install a custom ROM so any advice is welcomed.
What custom rom? There aren't any yet....
I dont think they are well behind, i just think the version numbers show it that way.
Basically, all youd need to do is unlock bootloader which will wipe the device, boot to twrp and flash magisk. Or flash a patched boot img.
Most of the roms are magisk modules which (mostly) work with 5g variants as it is still using the base 5g rom from oneplus
Sorry to jump on this but if I use a patched boot.img gm1910 (Chinese with Google preinstalled) do I need to unlock the bootloader?

Um, you need to unlock the bootloader first, then use a patched boot.img
---------- Post added at 08:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 AM ----------
And for the OP, the rooting process is going to be the same for all the variants. As said unlock bootloader, twrp(optional), Magisk and read the rooting guides and recommendations. It is fairly painless on these OnePlus devices, as long as you read first then proceed. You see far too many people do stuff then ask for help fixing the problem then reading the correct way to do something. Don't go by the build numbers on the OnePlus, as the company kinda messed up differentiating the variants and build numbers. The 5G version will probably be one of the last to get an update as it has another provisioning then the other. However it will not be "FAR" behind.

The US T-Mobile variant is the oddball exception; which is why you see it mentioned so often. Thanks to US corporate meddling, that version is SIM locked, so you need to SIM unlock and request a bootloader unlock token, in order to root (alternately, "convert" the device to the international version). None of this applies to the other 7 Pro versions. Other 7 Pro versions, the root process is essentially the same.
One thing to note, on early OOS version 9.5.3 for the 7 Pro (not 5G) the "fastboot boot" command did not work. The workaround to install TWRP was to unlock bootloader, flash a patched boot image, root with Magisk, then install TWRP like a Magisk module. Fastboot boot was fixed subsequently, so the root process was the more traditional: unlock bootloader, fastboot boot TWRP, install TWRP, install Magisk.
I don't think the 5G version ever had this issue (one of the benefits of having a "newer" device, I suppose). But if you see folks talking about rooting by using the patched boot image method, that is what they are talking about.
All that being said, I always a spend at least a couple hours reading up on the root threads, before rooting any new device. Each device has it's nuances in regards to rooting, and requires due diligence regardless of previous experience. Seems like you are on the right track, and have been reading up already. So keep it up. In particular, to verify their isn't anything specific to the 5G version. I don't know much about that version, but from what I've seen, the root method is the same.
Hi, I installed the Xiaomi bootloader unlock tool to unlock F2 pro's bootloader and thinking it will say 15 days after clicking on unlock. It instantly unlocked the bootloader rather than waiting for 7 or 15 days.

This phone has no custom ROMs, or even any custom recovery yet that I know of. It is relatively easy to unlock and root this phone, just be extra cautious with any changes you make, because they may not be easily undone.

You can use the Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant to fix a lot of stuff that you do to it.
Originally when flashing the magisk patched boot.img it didn't flash to part_a and Part_b, just to boot.img.
So, I had to wipe the whole thing after unlocking the Bootloader using that lenovo tool.
Here's how to undo many of the things you can do to break a lenovo or motorola phone -
Rescue and Smart Assistant (RSA) - Lenovo Support US

You could try any of these guides, just make sure they're set up for a/b partition type.

With Locked bootloader? Certainly not. Unlocking and then re-locking again is not difficult/will not break warranty, downgrading however does break Warranty if they found out.
If you decide to go with unlock/relock process, All you need to start is to look here: Poco X3/NFC index.
Before you begin though, first Connect your phone in fastboot mode and use:
Code:
fastboot getvar anti
to check Anti Rollback counter. The output should be 2.
If it is less than 2, then unfortunately you cannot downgrade to Official MIUI A10 safely. (There
are methods, but they cost money and/or carry a high risk of bricking)
My advice is to unlock your bootloader and flash a Custom ROM. MIUI A11 is not made for the Snapdragon 732G Chipset that comes with your device, it is full of bloatware and stuters at every corner. In comparison to the custom ROMs here on xda, which are very smooth last and longer in battery life. Most important of all, a lot of them pass Safetynet/are google play certified out-of-the-box.

Hello, I do not care about google, and was wondering is it possible and doable to get the China rom for Edge S to G100 (or Edge 20 to G200)? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
If I understand correctly, you have a Edge S, and want to install the G100 ROM. Yes, that is possible, but you will have to unlock the bootloader and flash the rom from lollinet. It's not a difficult process at all.
After that I recommend also installing magisk, universal safetynet fix and magisk props (the module to change the fingerprint), as the phone now will not be playstore certified just by flashing the G100 ROM.

At least in theory, you will need to unlock the bootloader and flash it using fastboot.
Be careful not to flash the bootloader when doing so.
