Hey guys,
before you start with: Telegram is ****, better use "xy app", i need to use Telegram. Period.
With that said, i come to the main Issue: Whats the best Option to stay anonymous while using Telegram?
I Have an anonymous sim card already to verify the account.
The Important issue is: i Don't want anyone in my group to be able to link my telegram to my real identity.
I have a few options to look at, want to learn as much as possible about the backgrounds and maybe find a solution with your help
I just throw my questions here, feel free to answer a few of them.
1. I have 2 Android phones to choose:
a) Huawei p30 lite
b) Moto g(7) power
Which one would be better for my operation and why ?
2. My plan is to use Orbot with the VPN option so theoretically all my traffic should go through tor only. How safe is that ? What can i do to make that maximum safe?
3. Is it generally better to go with rooting & custom roms or staying with the stock rom and modify it for maximum anonymity?
4. What would you do if you would like to use telegram fully anonymous ?
5. Is it generally better to go with a sim card or wlan only ?
I hope i will learn something from you guys,
thanks for reading
Cheers

If the only thing you want to do is prevent people in a group from knowing who you are, as the above quote suggests, then it's quite simple. Since you say you already have an anonymous sim card (I'm guessing you are refering to a secondary sim card and phone number that noone knows belongs to you, not some untraceable futuristic 007 style gadget that I don't believe really exists) just change your name and username in the settings and off you go.

thank you very much for your answer. Let me think about this if I am right: So you say I am already safe from people linking my identity on telegram.
it’s right, I use a SIM card which is not linked to my identity but not 007 anonymous hehe basically it was just a virtual sim to activate telegram and it’s gone now. I am in my wlan for connectivity that’s why I have an up Adresse that could be assisted to my real identity and I think users on telegram with somebasic k owl edge could easily get my up adress, at least If they got admin access in my group and can get my telegram Id.
And even if that’s not possible, at least it’s possible and logged on some telegram servers where nobody knows what’s exactly happening with that data so it’s not considered safe to spam my real ip adress there and users could theoretically buy this data from the telegram devs.
So I still need to mask my ip adress to use telegram and my current approach is orbot as vpn.
Is there any way you can think off where my ip would be leaked in this process ? I am running orbot permanently.
Cheers

This is an interesting patch to the CM7 repository frameworks base. If you scroll down and expand the comments you can follow the guys arguments on justifying such feature. Basically from what I understand this would allow you to spoof personal data to apps which may or may not request it. From contacts to SD card contents as well as phone IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number.
It's not a committed change but I wanted to see what the community thinks of having such feature. Personally I see all the reasons why this would open up a can of warms. What do you think?
I think in some other implementation this could be really helpful to the paranoid (like myself). However, I also think that those that are against it have VERY valid points. The community needs MORE widespread acceptance, not less, and something like this could cause major problems with Google, Carriers, Developers....
Sent from a bird cage, with a swing!
Correct me if I am wrong, but the intention is to spoof necessary data that an app might request that it doesn't actually need and to help prevent app force closes that straight up permission blocking causes. Like pandora requiring to read contact data.
Setting aside the other ramifications for a second... This is actually a good idea. It gives us power to not have to accept (for example) Pandora being greedy bastards.
Now the other ramifications are indeed severe. But for example, Swype. Why the hell can't I just buy it on the market?
I think arguing over it is a moot point. This cat is already out of the bag. We can't stuff it back in. This functionality is coming. Maybe not on Cyanogen, but it will be here for the masses soon. The greedy bastards that are trying to milk the system had just better deal with it.
Wow this thread could not have popped up at a worse time , what with all the NexusSense 0.3 users having trouble with their IMEI's.
But having read through all the comments on the change, i see why the CM team do not want to implement it, obviously this kind of change would piss off devs and carriers and of course google.
Yes it is a good idea for us users, but for CM's image and survivability , id say not having it is a sacrifice we need to make

I figured this is about a development of Android ROM and posted in "Android Development" section. Forgive me if there was a better place to post it in.
This is also not marked as abandoned (as of this post) and still up for debate in the open section of Cyanogenmod Gerrit section.
For devices without an IMEI because they don't have a cellular radio, such as the Nook Color, some amount of this is valid and regarded as highly valuable. While I don't condone being able to haphazardly change or spoof your IMEI, I do believe that for devices that don't have an IMEI that some measure should be taken to create a device specific IMEI that will persist between different ROMs and ROM installations. Unfortunately with no IMEI support for devices like the Nook Color, there is no persistent ID that can be used. As developers continue to use the IMEI as a "device stable" ID, we need to come up with a way to support devices that don't have such an ID, and perhaps generate a non-colliding IMEI from a has of their login information, or some other identifying metric that will persist between different installations. The TAC could be created to identify the device type, and then the serial number could be generated based upon some information provided by the user.
In short, outright spoofing is probably a bad idea, but something needs to be done for devices that don't supply these sorts of IDs.
I'm using Viber with a BlackBerry right now but tomorrow I will get my iPhone and I have messages there that I want to save and transfer to my new phone. Is that possible? And if it is.. How do I do it? Because I know that as soon as I set my number on my new device, I will lose all my messages and I don't want to do that. I have some important ones there so I really hope there is a way I can transfer them from my BlackBerry into my iPhone.
Thank you all for your support.

How to identify which admin among the many admins in the group has removed/dismissed someone as admin?
Hi all,
My name is Fabian, and I have a strong background in C. (Done a CS course in C).
I want to do an Android app for my final project(nothing too fancy or complicated but I have to at least have some interface ) and I'm a little stuck with how to proceed from here.
I watched the Java essential course on Lynda and I did understand a little the difference between C in Java, however I don't know how to proceed from here to actual Android development.
If anyone can recommend me finding a crash course, a book or any other resource that could get me up and running as soon as possible, I would really appreciate it.
I don't mind spending money on it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for your help I learned a lot and I'm already planning my app
I just have one question that could really help.
I want to make an app where people on different devices can interact and send each other tasks. I guess I need a kind of SQL server that supports Android, right? Is there a better or at least more economic way to do it if I will have around 1000 users where each one can add people to send tasks to?
Many thanks,
Fabian
And one more question
Is there any way to do a phone number authentication (like Whatsapp) instead of user name and password which I think is a little to tedious for my planned app ?
Thanks in advance
Hola, for the task sending. Would you like to make all task public? Or should you send it like a message?
But when i need access to a server, i use php scripts. But we can take that later, when you have answered my last question
For the phone number authentication, you have to have a online database, with all phone numbers. User inserts their phone number, the first time they starts the app. Then you can retrieve it from the database. But we can also take that later.
I´m glad if i helped.
(Sorry for my bad english.. )
Hola
Well I want it to be like a manager that gives a task to his employee. I want the task to be between them and only they can close it.
Likewise, it would be a problem if I make a simple phone number insertion if there's no validation. I was thinking about a number verification (like whatsapp) to prevent other people from accessing the tasks.
Do you think it's possible or should I go with username and password?
Thanks

I am using OpenShift - https://www.openshift.com/developers - which is a open source cloud architecture in that they offer packages like NodeJS and DB's. They allow you to have 'gears' which I guess is their name for services running on their cloud. The free account has 3 gears.
I currently only have a NodeJS server running to deliver files however (as far as I understand it) you can have MySQL and others as a backend. I would think that whatever devices you develop on would simply log into the DB and look up messages/tasks etc. I would also think that your app could insert those things. The best part is it is free until you reach Enterprise level or so. I would check it out since free is good. Offhand, I do not know what DB's Android supports via java but MySQL is probably one of them.
Just some info for you to examine.
Good luck
Hola, of course its possible! But maybe Username and Password is easiest.
You can use e-mail validation.
I actually worked on a application, there store products in databases. So i have tried it before. Ask if you are confused
And Sum1nil, sqlite is implemented in android, so for local database, use sqlite.
But for online database access, i use php
Hello,
Trying to search for an answer I went back to threads from 2010 but without luck.
Currently I use a Nexus 5x with OmniRom 6.0.1., XPosed and microG with a Focus on privacy and security.
Until now I successfully refused to use WhatsApp but with new job/people/place it seems I'd need to hop on the bandwagon.
I had to get myself a new phone number (sim card) in this country and would like to use my old number too for my old contacts. A dual-sim phone makes sense there.
Now my question; how/is it possible to run two android systems on one phone at the same time, both with dedicated access to only whitelisted (XPrivacy eg.) data?
For the one sim card my usual privacy focused take, the other sim for WhatsApp/Google/Facebook - all those so called "social apps".
I don't want my data getting mixed up/tracked down/profiled with my other sim card and keep ist usage to a minimum. Mostly just reading group messages or posts
by other people.
From what I read, Google "Android at work" needs its own Business Server running for it. Won't work for me. I also remember Blackberry had a take on a private and work space once.
Or do I have to trust in/depend on the original phones software to manage the sim cards access?
What kind of software/hardware solution would you suggest to me? Regarding phone specs I'd prefer a good camera, ~ or <5" display (not >5") and a price as low as possible, ~ € 250.
Thank you!
