Hello,
I have around 2 years ago made a factory reset on my phone plus a root upgrade. The reset was not a typical factory reset but really a factory reset made with the root tool.
There was also a warning that all data will be erased. Now I want to know out of curiousity if there's any way to recover data of that phone via a tool or device.
I'm only curious as it might have old photos and files I have not backed up - nothing important tho.
It's a Sony Xperia Z3. Thanks

what is the difference between factory reset and hard reset??
will my phone lag go away if i do a factory reset?
what all will remain in the phone, like which apps(pre installed or all?)
i'm using a motorola defy (running 2.2)
A factory reset makes your device just like it was when you first took it out of the box brand new. It is done from with in the Android OS it self via Settings/SD & phone storage/Factory data reset. Any apps you have installed, your contacts, bookmarks, any personal settings you have will be removed. If you go into Settings/Privacy and check backup settings your settings will be backed up to google. It is also a has a Automatic restore option there that will automatically restore your settings for you if you have backup settings checked.
A hard reset does the same thing a factory data reset does, but you have to use the external buttons to do it. Each device has it's on combination of buttons to preform a hard reset. Some devices have it as a option in the Hboot/Recovery screen. Some say a hard reset does a little bit more thorough or deeper cleaning, but I have found no one that can answer this for 100% positive.
you can also preform a factory reset using Clockwork Mod Recovery by choosing the factory data reset option in the main menu of Clockwork Mod Recovery.
As for it solving your issue with lagging. I can not say proof positive it will as I do not have a device like yours and do not exactly what is causing the device to lag. But a factory reset has been know to help solve a lot of issues, one is laggyness. I suggest you do it as it is no risk involved in doing it. Plus with Android it is easy to restore your device to the way you had it. The market keeps track of the apps you had and you just open the market, press yhe menu button and then my apps. this will let you get your apps back.
Yes I know this is a stupid thing to do but the factory reset has lost all my pictures. I have tried to go down the root of Rooting the device and then running some recovery software but not very successful hence my other thread of restoring. Is there any easier way to get the pictures restored after factory reset ?:cyclops:
The internal storage is encrypted by default anyways, there's absolutely no way to recover anything from it after a factory reset.
Hello everyone,im having a huge issue with my device of late. It randomly just freezes up now and then and i have to do a hard reset to switch it off then. Since this has been happening i decided to do a factory reset on my device and start fresh.
Problem with that is that my phone wont let me do a factory reset by going into the settings menu and then selecting backup & reset and then going into the factory reset menu. Once there and i try to tap the reset tab, it does nothing at all. Is there another way that i can reset my device?
If anyone has any suggestions for me,id really appreciate hearing from you. My device is the E6653 and it is not rooted or bootloader unlocked if thats essential.
since factory reset is next to re flashing your device
consider reflashing using FLASHTOOL. ( even when you device has locked bootloader you can still flash untouched rom)
some time back a user having z5p ( device name Satsuki) was asking how to flash so i gave him good short tutorial at
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71394777&postcount=3
the same applies for you too! but select SUMIRE in the list and see your country , select correct build version / download and flash
(with stock android backup, i mean the default andorid recovery tool, which is preinstalled)
Hey there.
Im totally lost on this one... and also not so skilled with Android....
The Device is a ASUS Zenfone MAX 3 - X008 (ZC520TL) with the latest Official Firmware.
No mods, no nothing.
So my bottom microphone broke a few days ago and ASUS Support told me to try a Factory Reset.
But since i dont wanna brick my Phone or loose my Guarantee (because the Microphone is broken),
i was very limited with the Backup method. So i backed up all my User Data with Android Stock Recovery.
This created "UserData_w454387564835693.backup" Files without a Problem.
Then i did the Factory Reset and tried what ASUS suggested me.
But it didnt work and so i wanted to recover my just backed up files.
Booted to Recovery and recovered the Files without Problem.
Then started the Phone and after the BootLogo and a little time it displays me an error:
"Decryption unsuccesfull! Yout Password is correct, but your Data is corrupted, please Reset your Phone"
..... and now i dont know what to do.... but my userdata backup is very important.
i dont even know what format it is with ending at *.backup....
PLEASE HELP!
*edit*
i did the recovery via my sd card and when i reset the phone again it works (with factory reseted stock firmware)
but as soon as i succesfully recover my backup files, it gives me that error...
Ok, so ASUS Support just replied me that they do not support Backup and Recovery via the Stock Android Recovery. Its just for resetting the Phone.
And the Reason why its not supported is that Android Auto-Activates the Encryption which breaks the Backup, they saied.
Well ok... Luckily i did backup the most important Data via Google Sync,
but many things like my Photos are only in this Backup File.
Is there any way i can access this *.backup Files and extract Data to my PC?
Please help!
So I plan just to wipe my phone data that's stuck in bootloop. I had it rooted before but I removed it. I plan to use recovery software to retrieve the data. Will it still recover data when I've rooted my phone after the reset or will it only recover data when it was rooted before it got reset?
