Greeting and salutations from a new member and a n00b.
I apologize in advance if i posted in the wrong section.
I recently acquired Ulefone Armor 9 and i am still getting acquainted with it.
The only thing i really do not like is the camera app. The 64M mode really suck. Generally the whole camera app is lousy.
The question is is there already some Gcam apk available that works on it?
Or something?
Tried installing one Armor 6E and it sort of works but it crashes.
Thanks in advance.
Hi all, I am between buying the ARMOR 3WT and the Armor 9. These are the main differences:
Battery: 10300 - 6600
RAM: 6 - 8
GPS: 3WT does not have the European Galileo
Price: 320 Euros - 500 Euros
What do you suggest? Actually, I am all about the Armor 9 but I am afraid about its battery. I don't want to think about charger or power bank between morning and night. What do you think? 3WT has gps problems in Europe? I often hike, so maybe Galileo will be useful?

I only had it for a few days. I have been playing a lot with it, using FLIR and setting it up and games. Today from 06 till 18 i managed to use up 25% of battery. Will see how it goes on. Need to do a proper test and gps use. Hopefully next weekend
Be warned:
1. camera is not really good. (i think its poor software and i hope they update it)
2. Signal app doesnt get any notifications if it is not in the foreground. Only when it is opened. (closed app and/or locked phone no notifications come).

Download Google Camera 6.1.021 Mod for Ulefone ARMOR 9
Download & Install Google Camera 6.1021 mod on Ulefone ARMOR 9, the App Support HDR Plus Night Sight Portrait Mod & 4K Video
romprovider.com
I discovered that Gcam is not compatible with most of the mediatek devices. I also have Armor 9 and you can try an alternative camera like Open Camera...
Hello,
I spent a lot of time to find any gcam mod which does not crash and I found some, but all of them have black viewfinder in Camera, Portrait and Night mode. Only Video and PhotoSphere works.
The only version where viewfinder is not black is the version for Ulefone armor 6E in Gcamator app. But it is an old version, I think 5.1 and creates just 8mpix photos on armor 9 ;oS
I am not a developer, so I am not able to find where is the problem ;o(
Not crashing (but only partial working) versions:
MGC_7.4.201_Parrot043_1.1.apk
MGC_ver.6.2.024_Dise_v1.1.apk
ZGCAM_7.4_V1.03359.apk (3387 release also and I think later versions will work)
MGC_8.0.018_V0b2.apk
Maybe it helps someone who is able to get more info.
Hi all. Unfortunately I have problem with gps. I have the official 20210304 rom and I think in the previous one it was ok.
The major problems:
Imprecision (with good accuracy) when I am stable, especially when I am under a cover. For example when I walk and I stop in a pavilion for water, it loses me and it looks like I have done many rapid movements around the pavilion, adding more unreal meters in my exercise.
Look at the image. In point A I turned to left and it lost me. In point B I did a (walking) U-turn for returning home and it really perplexed. The same in the begin and end in my home (point C).

Also some times it needs many minutes (even half an hour) to detect my exact location.
What I have done: I have done tests in many apps including google maps and I have concluded that the problem is more central to the phone regardless of the using app. I have done factory reset, but the problem remains. I have checked all the possible on - off combinations of google and WLAN accurancies, but nothing helps... Also some gps debugging apps didn't help...
Any advice? It looks like it is something for battery optimization but I cannot find the solution. Is there a way to force the phone to have as first and unique priority the best possible gps accuracy - precision without caring about anything else? Is there a way to have custom personal control of this? I mean during my walking, in map I want to see what is my location according to each satellite, not just the center of all values.
Finally, what are the steps if I want to downgrade to the previous stock rom (I use Ubuntu and Arch)?

I use a Mio a701 for Geocaching with GPS Dash v2.58 software and it seems to do everything I need it to apart from one thing. I would like to be able to take photos and have the lat/long read from the GPS & stamped onto the photo. Is anyone aware of any 3rd partysoftware that can do this?
I have looked at things like "RoboGeo" which compare the recorded track with EXIF data on a PC, but really would like the ease of doing it direct on the device.
I know this is slightly off topic for your forum, but I have asked in the usual Mio support forums. I would have thought such software (if it exists) could also be used on an XDA with a BT receiver also, so here I am
TIA

murf62 - welcome to the board.
I'm a fellow Mio A701 man, as of last week. Can I ask what forums you're using? I haven't seen many good dedicated ones, at least nothing as good as here. I've started one on my website just for the hell of it.
I've written a couple of apps to improve the system, I'm not particularly happy with it out of the box.
But I digress. This could be possible, but what app are you using take the photos, normal camera app?
V
Yeah, I'm using the normal camera app, but can't see any reason why a 3rd party app couldn't exist that grabs a pic from the camera and then stamps the lat/long onto it.
I have hunted high & low for such a thing and I'm pretty sure it doesn't currently exist.
I've had the Mio since release on 10 Mar and it's been great, these are the forums I currently use, I'm assuming it's ok to post them here as you asked & are a moderator

The bottom 2 are dying off now as most people have moved to the fourpages one.
I would be interested in apps you have written, what sort of things are you talking about?
murf62: hey, four pages is great, I just Johnny Five'd the whole board into my limited Mental Storage Drive:

Seems like you run much of the board, at least the FAQs!
I'm awaiting my authorisation email Can't post yet.
Basically, I hate that there's no dedicated Power button. The red button is useless, it always switches itself on in my pocket, and takes me 30 seconds to switch off using the ShutDownApp.exe or whatever it's called.
I reverse engineered it and squirted the functionality into my VJEschaton (unreleased version), and used a regedit to bring the Camera app into Settings, and now assign power off to the camera button.
Next step is to rewrite or patch the keyboard driver to allow power on from the camera key, although I'm thinking of a better solution, writing my own screen lock to sidestep the problems (backlight coming on) with the current Rom version.
Next, I used VJOkButt to replace the functionality of the Red button, and used AE ButtonPlus to replace Vol Up/Down keys.
I spent an age configuring my Today screen, creating a new today theme to match my old WM2003 one, updating the Wiki on here very slightly with my findings. I then configured claunch to use as my Today screen dialer.
I've also written a small GPS test app.
I spent yesterday trying to install my father's TomTom 3, which failed, so gave TT5 a go. Works ok.
I'm going to try to write a release version of the GPS app, eventually, because currently I think you have to Kickstart the GPS with another app, and VisualGPS seems too CPU intensive for the job.
More to come. I've only had it out of the box for around 48 hours
Hopefully I'll look into the GPS stamping issue, if I can figure out and find a nice image manipulation library. But I have some other priorities on this board first (VJToggleToday, to maximise Today screen space. Works well on the Mio though).

You don't need to kickstart it this way if you use HW_COM & 57600 baud in tomtom instead of COM 4.
But will that still use Ephemeris?
V
No it doesn't, but it still locks on pretty quickly. Typically, I get tomtom loaded & a good lock in around 60 seconds. (25 seconds or so of that is tomtom booting up, then another 10 or so while it finds the COM port).
hey mates
been a while since i last posted here. after my xda2, i've been using a mio a701. i was then given budget for a new office phone so what the heck i tried out the n95. here's a review after a month's worth of use:
1) battery - if you're a heavy user of bluetooth, wifi, internet, etc...then chances are you're going to charge this almost every night. the bat was okay and i think it could hold it's own for around 2-3 days. i did try out the media player and after like 2 hours of use the battery went down to almost half (from a full charge). i just ordered 2 extra batteries from ebay...good thing their cheap at 2.00usd each.
2) camera - one of the reasons i got this unit. excellent quality given that it's using carl-z optics. the 5 megapixel is quite good and the flash does work wonders. thing is, the camera can also drain the battery if used continuously. yup, the battery is the number one gripe for the n95. however, i was able to buy this little accessory while in hong kong:

}
yup, it's a zoom lense. the package comes with a crystal case and from there you attach the lense holder at the back. you have to be careful before you stick it in. the surface comes with a special adhesive. you have to be careful you put the holder in the right position else you risk having an off-centered lense. once attached, the zoom lense slides into the grooves and there you go. i tested it myself and i must say i was impressed with the telescopic feature. you can then remove the zoom lense and keep it in the padded pouch. i was also able to buy a tripod which clamps the phone in place. regular camera tripods allow you to screw the cam on the holder. for the nokia, the tripod has a padded clamp which holds the unit in place.
3) speed - around 9 years ago i was using a nokia 8850 before i switched to ppc units. i'm still getting used to the fact that i have to use the keypad...and no more stylus for me to pull out. other than that the speed of the unit is quite good. applications start out fast. i tried opening several applications at once and it was able to cope without slowing down.
4) media player - i loaded my mp3s on the micro-sd...paired the unit with my r-35 itech headset and there you go...the a2dp works great. i also shut off the bt app and tried out the stereo speakers. although we're not talking b&o quality here the sound is quite good. i think the speakers have been set so as to prevent the speakers from blowing out. in other words, i cranked up the volume to the max and it showed no signs of distortion. it was loud enough to be heard but of course i would expect that the sound would be drowned out when you're in public (like in a bus or a crowd).
5) sliders - the dual slide system...in my opinion...is not as handy. sure it's an added feature..but when you slide it to the right the screen goes on landscape and simply opens up to the animated menu. this is the same menu which pops out when you press the right bigger button while in portrait mode. from there, you have press the central select button to activate the media player.
6) tv-out - the unit can be plugged into the tv and use the screen to display whatever you want. in this case i also loaded a 3gp file of the movie "happy feet"...and to be honest i was quite impressed. it was like having a mini-dvd player. you can also use the tv to display photos or whatever
7) gps - one of the reasons why i bought this unit....but i wasn't as impressed. if you're a hard core navigation user, then better stick to using ppc gps applications. here in thailand i've been using gps to get around as i'm not a native of this country. i've been using powermap v7 for my mio and i was always happy with it. for the n95, the application is called "maps". you then have to install "maploader" into your pc to enable you to download all the maps you need. the pro for this is the maps are free. the con is that you have to pay for navigation services. although the maps application can provide navigation, it will not give you voice directions. you have to pay for this feature...and it comes in plans. it's not a 1-time payment deal...when you pay it can be for 1 year, 2 years, etc.
paying involves connecting to the internet via your gprs /wifi or whatever method you use. although i'm honest in saying that i'm fortunate the company pays for my phone bill, if you're a regualr plan user this can be a burden.
another thing about the gps is that the antenna is on the bottom of the phone. you would have to tilt the unit around 45 degrees in order to get a signal. i would recommend that you switch to landsape mode so as to allow the antenna direct access to the sky.
getting a signal is okay if the sky is clear. while inside the car, i saw some delays and difficulties in getting a satelite signal. i bought an extra gps-receiver and that boosted the connection speed. although there are symbian gps applications like route66 or tomtom, unfortunately the maps are still limited.
don't get me wrong, i like the n95. however, i'm also keeping my mio as i use it for gps applications. overall it's a good phone and i see myself keeping this for quite some time. i was thinking of getting the ameo...but the size factor is what's keeping me from doing so.
cheers
Hi, i am new here thefore i cant post in "One S Android Development"
I KNOW that (HTC one s)Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 has support for GLONASS. can it be unlock ?
anyone known what soundchip it got onboard also ?
Appreciate the help.
Are you sure it needs unlocking? Mine said on the box "Supports GPS/GLONASS". Not that I have any idea how to check.
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA
Download GPS test from the market.
Fire it up and see if you log any satellites numbered 65 to 88.

My Htc one s, havnt arrive yet, i still waiting, i think it would come next week, then i can do the gps testing. It would be nice to hav a good gps.
I am using Samsung galaxy s1 and its worthless in sweden..
Btw i hope Snapdragon s4 get Wolfson audio chips
My HOS IS showing satelites number 69 and 71... are those GLONASS sats
Out of 15 satellites that I could see, 6 were #65 or over. Looks like GLONASS is working fine.
Edit: Just to clarify, I'm in Japan, but my phone came from the UK so is the European model (No One S for the poor Japanese, lol)
So it works completely transparently to the user and does not need special software or adjustments, it will just work by "supplementing" the accuracy reported through the GPS interface and therefore also every navigation software etc. will automatically benefit from it?
That is kinda cool if its the case.
This is going to be GREAT for once i can use "GPS" correctly in sweden, anyone knowns more about the Sound chips onboard the S4 ?

Yup, looks like it. There is no separate setting to "Enable GPS" / "Enable GLONASS". Although rather than being transparent to the user, it is more like hidden from the user. I guess the average user neither knows nor cares about GLONASS, as long as the thing shows them where they are on the map.
I do not get satellites > 28, but total 22 visible and 14 in use.
Don't know if GPS or GLONASS - but 22 are a lot
My HOS consistently sees ~17-21 even when indoors although while indoors I get no GPS lock even though GPS Test says that it uses ~5 satelites. But once I take it to a window it gets a good lock immediatly.
My old Desire and my TF101 only sees ~4-5 when doing the same test. So it seems that the HOS really are using GLONASS too.
Yes they do. With GPS only I never had a situation where I could "see" more than 6-8 sats at once with a mobile and not all of them had a fix/lock because the signal was too weak (only once supposedly had 9, reported by an Audi in-car satnav with dedicated external antenna, but I am not sure if that was fixed sats or just the visible ones). I think as of now I think there are less than 30 functional sats in orbit globally and the GPS architecture hovers around an amount of 32-36 sats maximum (with higher coverage of landmasses and lower coverage on the oceans).
Also, GLONASS will be very beneficial to anyone in the upper northern hemispere, and lower southern hemispheres as the system is of course globally active, but due to sat orbit inclination and distance (orbit heigth) it allows a better coverage of the regions closer to the polar regions, while GPS seem to be more designed to cover the "middle ground" and also have a lower orbit.
And when the US went to war in the middle east, I think I have read about some of the satellites being repositioned to give a better signal feed to the troops and equipment in that area, therefore automatically neglecting the rest of the world a little bit.
This is a really good feature I did not even read about in the reviews prior to purchasing. I pity the folks with the One X who don't have that... It will double satnav usability and accuracy even in less than optimal conditions (cities with high buildings covering satellite line of sight etc.)
Anyone have a CHUWI Hi8 SE 8-inch Android 8.1 Oreo Tablet?
I was looking on Amazon and the specs seem pretty good, but I've never really heard of the company.
Are they any good?
Reliable?
I'm tempted to buy one.
I just got one today, haven't had much time to try it out yet. I'll write more next time.
In the meantime, I also have a few questions regarding the Chuwi's Android flavor (for anyone that might know the answers):
- With the default setup/launcher, is there really no way to customize the toggles in the notification area?
- Is it possible to use gestures instead of the bottom row 3 buttons? Haven't found the related settings anywhere yet.
I bought this tablet recently. It is a great value for the money!
Great screen, vanilla Android 8.1.0, no bloatware, 32gb storage.
My only complaint is that I'm completely unable to format SD card as internal (it has the option) or move apps to SD (there is no option). It's really weird and I'd like to figure this out!
I love it so far. Using it mounted in car for Waze navigation and Amazon music with everything automated through Automate Android app.
I agree, it's a great value for money, and unlike some (?) Xiaomi devices (which are actually great as well), it comes without bloatware and the kill-me-now privacy policy (and I can pretty much disable all apps I don't need, which was impossible on my last Xiaomi "trip").
And their support is even more responsive than that of my bank.
Other than that, I miss gestures (the bottom 3-button row on the screen is the only way to go), and I installed Nova launcher because I didn't really like the default one.
One more thing... the recovery mode is in Chinese - can someone post a translation of the first level menu?

It's not a bad tablet. Build-quality is pretty good and for the money, it is a good value. My only problem with it is that it doesn't recognize any of the Micro SD cards I put in (cards are fine as I tested them in other devices).
Came across some weirdness in one of the two system updates sections - namely, every now and then, the checking for updates fails, and the status line says
Code:
Failed to connect to fota5t.xxx.com/0.0.0.0:443
(see the screenshot below)
Sometimes it gets resolved correctly in the same session. My guess is they (Chuwi?) have issues with DNS or are attacked occasionally.... I mean, why in the world would the update URL end in xxx.com (the 0.0.0.0 IP is probably one of my blockades, on the other hand).

CHUWI Hi8 SE performance
The performance is very poor. The interface is not moving smooth at all. It cannot play 60FPS (neither 1080p nor 720p) clips in YouTube app. Chrome frequently freezes in use for 1 or 2 seconds.
Touch screen is very very poor. Is not calibrated and very insensitive.
Disappointed!
Any possibility to root the device?
TWRP or root solution for this device?
Very good price from BangGood
Managed to find its base ROM on Chuwi's official forum.
It'd be great to be able to root it or, even better, to have an Android 5 ROM for it since Oreo (8) is a bit laggy. ~
I recommend it ! :fingers-crossed:
Android 9
Any news with Android 9 for this device ?
Thanks
One of two bricked,
I bought two for my kids, one of them just died after 6 months, haven't figured figure out what yet, suspect battery. As I bought from banggood it's no point claiming warranty, cost to much time. Bought new in Europe, lesson learned.

If it's bricked, try reinstalling its base ROM ! (available on their forum, forum.chuwi.com)
LONG story short I bought this used MCMW head unit, tried getting my money back but PayPal sided with the seller even though it's missing pieces and constantly crashes after about a week of use. Performance has been under par (compared to AVINUSA.com or Joying unit's I've got running in other BMW's) and the manufacturer hasn't been helpful when I keep asking for firmware to reflash the unit to see if that'll help. It'll run decently for about a week, then suddenly Waze, the DVR app, etc will continually crash leaving me to only use the unit for Bluetooth and that's about it...unless I reset it back to factory, reinstall apps and then buy myself another week. The touchscreen is oddly either unresponsive or too sensitive as I'm scrolling around, it's just getting frustrating for daily use. I just wanna see if anyone has any advice on how to improve it's performance so it's usable and doesn't need weekly resetting. Even pointing me to the correct forums would be helpful but direct links to actual flashable firmwares, updates, etc would be awesome.

Unfortunately, the forum crystal ball doesnt know what you unit is and from the hundreds of made up models and brands, the seller could be selling units of different types, from different factories, despite branding with the same model name.

Hello, your unit is MCU: MTCH, the app crashes problem is doing the last updates of android webview and chrome. Maybe that's your problem too. Just uninstall and disable their updates, reboot the unit. Ignore any requests to update them. A firmware update won't help, this is the only working solution on Android 10 so far.
Ok, I'll try that since I did update Android Webview and Chrome during my lunch, yet Waze and my dashcam app crashed consistently on my drive home. I'll try uninstalling both and see if that helps me avoid having to completely reset the unit again.
Requested moderator moves to MTCD section.
Op read through MTCD section, the issue has been discussed already.

Disabled, cleared their storage and now Waze works again. Unit's still slow to respond (dragging apps for split screen took like 8 tries) vs it's stats but at least it works now. Thanks for the help.
I bought the same unit for my E38 but I bought it from Xtrons directly thru xtrons-usa on ebay I almost purchased it from MCMW until I figured out he is reselling an Xtrons unit even though he says he is not and says that Xtrons is rubbish. I can tell you it is the biggest POS I've spent $400 on so MCMW is right it is rubbish.
