Assistant was coming on all the time. It was always "looking things up" even if, from the TV. It was driving me nuts, so I turned it off. Well now, the f#$% thing ask me to turn it on every time I unlock the phone. Please help. I want the guy that decided this to fall down a well; It's insane.
The phone became unusable. The pop-up asking me to turn on came up constantly, sometimes not even visible, but it has focus, and prevented me from using the phone. I was able to fix this by stopping and disabling the google app, but now I can't even use voice when using Android auto, which I was able to do with just the assistant off. Google may be making Android unusable without assistant.
You may press assistant button by accident
You can turn the button off in System >>> gesture
In addition, you can cut the button on the case to flat to avoid misoperation
I suggest disabling assisant entirely, along with Google app.

Had to use Google Nav to get across town tonight, after sunset. I usually drop the phone in my center console after it locks location and begins giving directions. On my old Moto Droid, I could turn the screen off and just listen to the voice directions.
On the Thunderbolt, it seems to keep the screen on, regardless of what the time out is set for. If I hit the power button, the screen turns off, then powers back on in a second.
This is just a complete waste of battery. If I was sitting the phone in a car dock, it'd be different, but this is a waste. Anyone experiencing this, or know how to get the screen to turn off when Navigation is active?
idk if this works but have you tried hitting the home button to get out of google nav (while it's still running) then hit the power button?
I have experienced the same feature. It doesn't bother me too much though cuz I have my phone plugged in.
I bet the above idea works.
this is not a signature I type it in every time maybe sent from my phone or my computer

It only keeps the screen active if you are in the navigation program. Just back out, or go to any other screen and it will turn the screen off normally. Working as intended.

Have to test this. Thanks.
I have experienced the same issue with the thunderbolt. The screen stays on weather I have the phone plugged in or not.
I see hitting the home button as more of a workaround than a solution here. It's easier for me while driving to turn the display on and off with one physical button.
I'm hoping that cyanogenmod will fix the issue when it's released but I feel like there should still be a way to set the screen to stay off when the power button is pressed in navigation.
I think its a feature, keep screen alive. As mentioned, going to home screen allows you to put it to sleep, but you cannot while navigation is active.
I can see your point though, keep it off, then a quick on shows you where you are without the need to open the app from the tray.
Smart locks place detection works fine, but after a while It forgets that I've memorized trusted places and stops working.
The circle is still there, but I need to insert the password, go to Smart Lock's trusted place settings and the locations reappear, to make Smart Lock work again.
I think that the issue aren't soft locks (circle is still there) but the fact that the memorized locations disappear after a while and reappear only when I go and check them out.
Also, sometimes Google Play Services stops while I'm trying to do so
Has anybody got any ideas? Would reinstalling Google Play work?
I use low battery location mode and Greenify (I press the power button to lock the screen tho, and I've already tried disabling it, I don't think the issue's caused by that)
Hi, my problem is difficult to be described so i posted a video (link below). Look like touch screen is not working but as you can see, when i push 'ok google' button I can interact. So it's probably a software problem, like UI doesn't work properly. I've never seen something like that. Do you know how can I solve it? I tried disconnecting from phone and doing a reset.

I have the same problem too on my Huawei SmartWatch 2 (not 4G) This problem begin a couple of days ago.
The clock work flawlessly, the top button work if I do a long press (Google Assistant appear) and the Watch react when I press the GA parameters on the screen.
My Watch continue to display and count my footsteps from Google Fit.
The Watch vibrate everytime I receive a notification, but the notification flash less than an half second and impossible to reach it to display.
From my phone, I can change the Watchface, I can change setting of the watchface.
IT IS NOW IMPOSSIBLE TO:
- Press the face of the watch, or slide the face of the Watch......no reaction.
- The Watch react when I touch the screen to turn it on, but that's it, no more action possible.
It is impossible to just restart the watch, because I can't reach any menu on the watch.
same here
Same issue here for a while now... as far as I remember occured since latest Wear OS app (2.16) update. Constant hiccups/lag after screen activation. We seem to be paying too much money for such "premium" consumer tech devices, which rather taste like beta software / testing hardware messing around with buggy software upgrades that keep on sneaking in regularly. This is ridiculous!
same thing happen to me as well between here and there. This is due to the watch faces.
All i do was restart the watch by keep pressing the top button (Google assistant button) for about 10 seconds.
The watch will reboot automatically.
Once its reboot I switch the watch face.
Greetings,
I need the help of a developer. My grandfather has a Samsun s20 + and is 86 years old, and little by little he has been losing his vision, I have configured the phone for the visually impaired, and some apps are very good, even answering a call is very good, you don't need see the screen, and recently I wondered how to turn off the phone quickly, for that phone you have to press the shutdown button, then choose the red button and finally turn off, there are three steps that for a person with visual impairment are It makes it difficult, I was looking for an app that will facilitate the process but I did not get anything, well, I also tried hitting the off button and the volume down button at the same time for a few seconds, but what it does is restart the phone. Voice commands are not viable due to his age. I would like to know how I can help my grandfather, I have thought about developing an app that when opened just by clicking the screen once, turns off the phone, he has an app that gives him the time with that procedure, super easy, he just opens it , touch the screen anywhere and the phone tells you the time. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
PD: I told him that I could program the phone to turn off at a certain time and turn on at a certain time, that could be done with a Bixby routine, but he wants to be in control of being able to turn it off.
I use an older Samsung Note 4 with the latest stock OS allowed for it. I have had an issue since day one that I can't seem to find a solution.
I want to be able to disable the screen from turning on, unless I hit one of the physical buttons (typically Home or Right side button). The reason is that notifications and other background processes keep lighting up the screen. Sometimes, the screen will just stay on and not timeout. Also, if the phone is in my pocket, it senses my body and starts interacting as though its my fingers. I am only aware of this once the phone heats up and then all my icons are messed up. The biggest problem is the battery drain from all this. Setting the timeout short does not really help and is kinda annoying itself.
I have not been able to find a setting or app than can suppress this. All of my searches just turn up the opposite solution to keep the screen active constantly.
Is it possible to disable the screen until an actual physical button is pressed? If so, what is the solution? New OS, new phone, app?
Thanks.
