Amazon apps will not work after restoring nandroid backup - General Topics

Like the title says, none of my Amazon apps will work since I restored my nandroid backup. IMDB will open but won't allow me to sign in. They will all open actually, but the store app has the "Uh Oh" error and then the music app says I need to update Chrome, which isn't the case. Has anybody else had this issue? They were working fine before I had to restore the system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can try to wipe app data and enter login information again.

Yeah, tried that. My HTC was the only one with the problem at first, then my Huawei tablet had the same issue. Both with LOS ROM's. Magisk Hide worked on the tablet, but not on the phone. What's strange is after rebooting, the apps will work on the phone for about 5 to 10 minutes. The same issue with all Adobe apps, I have found out as well.

[Q] Need help restoring a backup taken from Helium

I've taken a backup of all the app data with Helium (checked "Backup app data only") via my laptop's browser (connecting to the local IP address of the server) and now, after unlocking bootloader, flashing TWRP, and gaining root I need to restore it.
(I've posted this at the Help thread, but since it seems to be more than a simple question I'm migrating it here.)
To sum what I've done so far:
How I've taken the backup:
Opened Helium Server via my laptop's browser and selected all the apps, checked the "Backup App Data Only" and then clicked backup, it asked me where to save the zip file, clicked ok and now I have a backup of about 80MBs.
Now I want to restore the backup, what I've done:
Installed Helium
Connected it successfuly with my laptop running run.sh script
Opened helium and selected settings and then the 1st option (sth about PC), so I got the local address of the Helium server
Accessed the server via my laptop's browser and clicked browse to select my backup file
It said uploading and after that the list of all the apps showed up, clicked the Restore button
At the phone, the Backup/Restore dialog opened, a quick message showed up in this dialog about the 1st app (9gag) and then the dialog closed (not force close) with a toast notification saying "Restore starting..."
After that I got a message at my laptop's browser that "Restore complete" although no such thing happened
So, what can I do now?
Is there any way to manually restore the apps via adb restore now that I don't have an ab file? Actually I don't care using GUI, I just want to proceed restoring the backup, I've seen these threads here and here but I have a zip file, not an ab.
Does helium backup uses adb backup and then this tool to convert the ab file to zip?
Really frustrated that this has taken up so much time..
I have never used or even heard of Helium before today. But I looked it up and read the description. One of the points said "You may need to set your USB Connection Mode to "PTP". (Nexus 7, Nexus 10, etc)". Did you do that?
And maybe you should try Titanium Backup if you havent before. It works Flawlessly.

I've asked at the help thread for a backup application without having root (because Titanium needs root) and they recommended this one.
Yes, it's connected via PTP
I've also tried testing with the app a little bit, here's what I got/done:
Installed an app
Taken a backup of this single app checking the "Backup app data only"
Restored the backup via the browser client (at my laptop) and it said "Restore starting...", but also "Restore finished", but there wasn't any prompt to install the application from Google Play
I've also sent an email to the developer..

Ive looked into the app a little bit more and watched the video. I'm starting to get interested in the app. lol. You said you backed up app data only. Maybe you need to download the app first.

Well, it says at the option "Backup app data only" that "You will be prompted to download the app from Google Play before restoring.", so something surely goes wrong. Maybe I've hit a bug, I don't know. I hope I get a prompt reply from the devs team.
Also, I've tried doing that with viber and it didn't work. So I've browsed through /sdcard/Android/data/ and here's the result of
Code:
ls -l
.
Note that the only non standard package is
Code:
com.ninegag.android.app.tmp
, which is probably the one that flashes when I click restore just before the app goes off focus and posting the toast notification "Starting Restore...".

Well just to see, download an app first and then restore the data and see if it works. If it does, then its just not prompting you to download the app.

With my lack of experience with the app, I dont know what else to say. I guess just wait and hope you hear back from the dev. Sorry
Total shot in the dark, but I saw some mention earlier that Helium (maybe adb-backup itself?) has issues running on a PIN-locked device. Maybe try disabling your phone security before doing the restore? It can't hurt to check, at least.
I had an issue on another device, where an adb backup with a password showed similar problems on restore -- "starting restore" then immediately "restore complete" or whatever, without actually writing any files. Making a new backup without a password "fixed" this -- the restore actually worked. Not sure if that helps you at all, since your old data is already gone

[Q] Google Not Detecting My Nexus 5

Ok so I have a weird problem that I could not find a solution googling for a few hours. I got a nexus 5 back in February. According to "My Devices" on the google play store site it was registered on Feb 25th and shows last used on Feb 27th. I have noticed that I couldn't remotely install apps from the site but haven't tried to trouble shoot it until now. Also the android device manager does not work. I am rooted but using the stock ROM. I've been using the phone itself with no problems. I get app updates, use the google+ picture auto backup and other services on the phone. The only problem seems to be that I am not linked to the google play website with the nexus 5. Anyone seen or heard anything like this?
I tried this below but it didn't work:
Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manager.
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All < Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.
you might have to unselect remote factory reset to clear data in Google play services. After clear data the go back in select it again, reboot you should be good to go.

Every time it unlinked for me I just installed an App from the Play Store on my Nexus 5, and it would link again and I could install remotely through the Desktop website.
Hmmm I wish that were the case. I just installed an app yesterday after the remote link didn't work and I have tried again since. I've also removed my google account and added it back. Looks like a factory reset is in my future. Some things I've done that may have affected it:
Restore apps (not system) from titanium backup
Installed Xposed
Use of OpenVPN

Titanium Backup and Xposed should not affect it. OpenVPN, I'm not sure about, but I HIGHLY doubt it would be the cause. Try removing your Google account from Settings and setting it up again.

Titanium Backup WILL affect it - when you first loaded it on it would have asked you if you wanted to restore the device ID.
Open Titanium, press menu, chose the Manage Android ID, and restore your original ID. Then hit Market Update Helper, that will rebuild the market links.
Edit: Actually, maybe you don't want to restore - where did the original backup come from? Was it a Nexus 5? Maybe you already did restore the original, and it was from a different device??

Yeah I moved non system apps from a CM10 GS3. I thought about the Android ID as well. I generated a new one yesterday just to see if it fixed my problem. No luck. I am going to factory reset tonight. I'll post the results soon after I get everything up and running and confirm. Thanks for the suggestions.

Try re-building the market links through Tibu first.. might work?
Factory reset worked. I wish I knew what happened. I did a combination restore of my apps via the nexus 5 toolkit and titanium backup. The toolkit didn't get them all. I have not tried Xposed again. I may wait a bit and see if that was the cause.

Highly doubt Xposed would cause since I've been using it for a long time. As previously said, it was probably Titanium Backup messing with your ID.

[Q] Play Store Error on Lollipop

I'm running DH's Lollipop ROM and the Play store has been giving me -505 errors when I try to install certain applications. It is not during the download period, just when the app attempts to install itself. This happens with APKs as well. Is it an issue of Lollipop compatibility? I'm trying to download Chronus in particular.

Make sure that you did a clean install of the rom. If you were in TWRP there is a advanced wiping tab. Try wiping internal data (that does not wipe external sd card). This is probably a fix. If using some other recovery it should come with a similar feature. Hope this helped

Thanks, I tried that but still no luck so I just restored a nandroid. I've been digging around the N5 forums because they've had Lollipop for a while and it looks like it's a common thing with 5.0.

I had the same issue. Just curious, but did you try and use Titanium Backup at all? I did, and it failed. Must have broke something. A clean flash did the trick for me.
I had the same issue but only with apps that I attempted to restore with Titanium. I had to do a full data wipe and reflash to be able to install those apps again.

Yea I did and it just hangs up on that restore until I FC the app and deselect from restore. With the ROM I'm using Chronus (for example) is an optionally app to be installed and it installs that way but isn't the most up to date version and the update from the Play Store doesn't install either. Weird issues for sure.

Clean flash Lollipop and DO NOT use TiBu. It must not be fully working on 5.9 yet. I had the exact same thing happen. Just let Google restore your apps.

I have flashed the ROM and love it except this issue that I am also experiencing. I also have TiBu but did not use it for the app restore. Rather I used Google Play and it failed to install Any.do. I have tried manually and read extensively online and the problem appears to be related to Adobe air not being Lollipop compatible. I finally email Anydo and they are aware of the issue and are providing me with a link to their upcoming lollipop beta. My point is I don't believe reflashing, re-restoring, or rummaging around in the data/data folder will fix the 505 error.

After reading further I decided to uninstall ALL Task apps, which included Chaos-Control. I was then able to install Any.DO. It was a permission issue and it conflicted with Chaos-Control. Lollipop is confusing app permissions. Find the like app, uninstall, and then install the app you want. That worked for me.

Titanium Backup troubleshooting

So I have been using TB for years now, since back in the day that I had the HTC Hero and I have never had a problem with it until now. There are some certain apps that it will just not restore no matter what I try. It begins restoring the others just fine but when it gets to the same exact apps, it just stops and freezes.
I am using the Restore missing apps with data option.
I have tried deleting all backups and backing up again. I have tried verifying my backups various times. I have also tried not using batch restore for those specific apps (Going directly to that app and restoring just that one app with and without data, and it just hangs as well).
I am using SuperSU with my binary updated and busy box installed. I also changed the application processing mode to indirect. Is anyone else having this same issue? Its not on one specific rom, it happens on every rom I flash may it be stock based or aosp. I have exactly 112 apps backed up so when I have to force stop TB, and go back to uncheck the apps that are not restoring various times to restore the rest, it sucks especially since I am very picky with things working as they should.
Apps it will not restore:
Tippy Tipper
Subway Surfer
Nimble Quest
Battlefriends at sea gold
Commander (Star wars)
Instasize
If anyone has any idea what may be causing this and how to fix it, please let me know. Thank you beforehand!
What kernel do you have installed?
Stock CM that came with the official CM12 rom.
But either way, I have had this issue on every rom I have flashed.

If you go to the play store are you able to install them? I have had a few that i can't restore, but once I've installed them from the play store I can restore the backed up data. I haven't been able to figure out why some restore and others don't (unless they aren't compatible with the DPI and the Android version I've found a few that when you look them up in the play store they are not compatible)

I have been able to install them from the play store without any issue, I just can't restore them using TB no matter what I try. And its weird that its the same apps every time. So it is something that those apps have that does not get along. Can someone manipulate the situation and check on their end? I am running Illusion (Latest version from the 18th) and latest version of TB. See if you can restore those specific apps backed up from any rom.
Try changing the mount namespace separation setting in super su. I got that message when I first installed titanium it was a warning I don't know what it does or if it will fix your problem
I realized today that when backing up the specific apps after deleting all backups (Fresh backup), it rushes through those specific apps like as if it doesn't want to back it up but it doesn't give me an error message.
some apps don't like restoring to a different rom than they were made on.
Have you tried using the option in TB to create an update.zip you can then flash?
Hi there in desperation I come to this thread. Ive tried everything thats suggested in this thread and more.
TT backup Pro home page shows all necessary items like Root etc checked.
Problems with Pro:
1..Nandroid restore crashes immediately on item selection eg as soon as Menu Item Nandroid is selected Titanium crashes.
2..As mentioned by others, some apps wont restore; TT sits there in restore mode with nothing happening. This is on several apps.
3..Menu/Backup data to XML Bookmarks=yes Messages=yes Call log=crash/'Unfortunately, TT bup has stopped.'
4..Several other annoyances in reliability but the above are most important.
I have politely asked Titanium for support but they dont bother answering. After a few days waiting I gave the app a feedback of 1 on Play thinking that would get some response but no!
In 20 years of computer work, I have never had a software supplier with such a terrible support policy, and the feedback page for this app supports this comment.
Im sorry to have to come to this forum asking for help, but the Titanium folks leave me no choice.
As an aside I also use 'Backup Your Mobile' which IMHO is better at restoring settings and reliably restores apps with settings at no cost if you can put up with the ads.
Kind regards,
Alistair.
Since this post and no replies I have submitted 2 more support requests with TTBup support which is done via a web page interface. I even supplied a small video showing the problem. Alogcat does not report any errors which is odd.
Still no replies from TTBup support.

[Q] problem with possible virus running Chrome...

First, I am rooted, s-off, and running dottat's custom MM ruu.
I am having a problem with a virus or something on Chrome. I keep getting a popup window to fix a virus problem or something. I have managed to get out of it without clicking OK.
I have Chrome frozen right now with Titanium Backup. Can I use TiBk to wipe Chrome data and restore previous uninfected backup? Or uninstall Chrome entirely, reinstall Chrome from Play store and restore previously backed up data? Or is there maybe a particular file or folder I need to delete manually to fix this?
I have Kaspersky Internet Security app, and have scanned my phone and its coming up clean.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help.

It's probably ransomware, clear data off chrome and you should be fine. It's just someone trying to trick you to pay for something to get money and it locks the browser. There shouldn't be an actual virus on your phone.
The really advanced stuff will actually encrypt your data and tell you if you don't pay them they will delete all data off your device in a set amount of time. It'll set a random lockscreen pin to prevent you from entering your phone. Even this should be easily fixable with an s-off device, but you don't have anything that dangerous.
OK. Wiped data with built-in app manager. Wiped data again with TiBk. Restored backup of data only with TiBk, and rebooted. So far, everything seems to be fine.
I will report back in here in a couple of days if nothing pops up.
Thanks for your help.
Just wanted to check in for anyone who may be looking for a solution to this problem, that at least for the last two days, I've had NO pop-ups. So, I'm going to say that it worked.
Thanks again for the help.
