First thoughts, S8 wins. What do you think?
Sony camera is much improved and very competitive with the other flagships from what I've seen around the web. I've got no issues going with the Sony.
If the parameters were the same, I would give you the reason, but this is not the case.
XZP: ISO 800 , 1/32s
S8: ISO 250 1/10s
Honestly the Xperia XZ Premium does a better job considering that the iso is higher

Unfortunately the s8 looks a lot better than the xz premium in these tests.
I dont want the s8, but decent alternatives look limited at the moment!

I dont think...
Look at the heart, photo from S8 is overexposed, on Xz Premium is darker and have more details...
Or look on brushes, photo from xz premium looks more detailed, on S8 looks like watercolor...

To me the heart looks underexposed on the Sony and the brushes in general are noisier than on the s8 (although neither are fantastic).
I dont like the lowlight photos. Really dark...

For me there's no point have detailed photos when it's so noisy though.
Will be interesting to see if the Oneplus 5 has a dual camera setup and the quality they can produce.
Stuff have posted their review... and they're not overly enthusiastic about the camera either (although battery life seems OK)...

Hmm I'm bit a bit disappointed yet again I was really hoping for good things. I don't want the S8 because I hate curved edges. So I'm left with waiting for the Google pixel 2 or sonys next flagship in September/October which will be an improved on this..! Urgh I hate waiting lol. I think Sony really need to focus on their algorithms like the pixel takes excellent shots!

I strongly recommend you have a look at the HTC U11 that was launched today - it seems to be everything that I wanted the XZ Premium to be! The camera beats the S8 and Pixel (according to dxomark) and it supports hi res audio too. Benchmark wise it beats the XZP (if benchmarks are your thing). It doesn't have 960fps slow mo or a 4k screen, but realistically I think those are more gimmicks than something that would be used often (although if the XZP supported Daydream then it would make it more useful), but it does have it's own gimmick of squeezable sides which can be used to take photos, launch apps, etc. The only downside is the battery is slightly smaller at 3000mAh, but HTC seems to optimise previous phones pretty well from what I have briefly read.
There's a hands on review here (it's still being written, so keep checking back if it hasn't been completed yet...

Yeah, I saw this earlier I was very impressed with the DxO mark of 90! I love the photos taken by the Pixel so I'm sure the HTC will be in the same class. My only gripe is I heavily rely on a 3.5mm headphone jack and charging at the same time due to my needs at night so this is what is keeping me from the HTC unfortunately it plays a big role in my work. 3000mah battery doesn't phase me as the S8 did better in terms of battery life compared to the Xz premium which has a bigger battery. I think software plays a big part in optimisation for camera/battery.
The search continues...

You'd only really notice the difference side-by-side with a screen without it, plus there really isn't much 4k hdr content out there to make use of it. If only it had been Daydream compatible.
I'd be interested to know how you'll be using the 4k hdr extensively when the phone comes out?

I had the z5 premium and also have 4k hdr tv with a ps4 pro so I know what the 4k hdr fuss is all about. It's hard to notice it but once I go back to a general game which has no hdr support you can really tell. I mean its not night and day difference but you can tell.
I had the z5 premium I loved it. Sharpness and quality was fantastic. Pictures I took when viewing the images in that high res display were brilliant . I had some that looked unbelievable.*But the phone itself was difficult to hold and the battery was average not terrible and not great. Both these things have been fixed on the xz premium with looped edges and the supposedly 8hour screen on time screen.
Support for 4k screen wasn't great back then either. Although this time I believe they have already added 4k hdr support in amazon prime and I believe more to come.
The only people who'll tell you this "4k hdr is gimmick thing" are high end reviewers who blindly go over things and haters.
So anyway back to your q I'll probably be using it to view my amazing camera pictures on that high res screen. Along with 4khdr amazon prime content. YouTube apparently has 4k but no hdr and lets hope Netflix does too. And like I did with the z5premium I will download some movies in 4k too
Along with all this I'll be testing out vr although not Daydream compatible it may still work out with riftcat and pc vr. And of course im a huge fan of ps4 remote play too.
Overall the xz premium device according to many reviews I've seen is pretty much the complete package. So yeah im hyped for this one
I don't understand why some people and reviewers say the 50x zoom on the note is a gimmick and has no use in real live. I just took a picture of the moon and I'm extremely impressed with the results. I took the picture using my hands and not on a gimbal/tripod. Was this a lucky shot or are you seeing the same results?
Yep, used it the other day at homedepot to get a stock # for a mirror that was placed way up for store employee. She was able to also use the barcode to search for the mirror for me.

Nice photo, I have taken similar shots and never could have done with any previous phone (except my S20 Ultra of course) I don't see the 50X Zoom a gimmick at all - I find it a very useful and cool tool to have.
Stuck in traffic in FL, turnpike south. 20x , you can see the heat rising from the floor. Zoom is definitely not a gimmic
Sent from my SM-N986U1 using Tapatalk
I agree, I thought 50x zoom would be unusable, but even though it didn't produce an 'amazing' image, it was still usable. My only issue is trying to keep the camera steady at this zoom.
I think 10x is about the limit to a quality photo though.
.
So I'm not an avid and knowledgeable picture taker, I'm more the point and shoot.
I seem to have an issue with my s22 ultra and pictures. 1x looks clean and good, 10x looks good to. After 10x though, I start getting what looks like artifacting or pixelation issues, like the camera is using software to render things, resulting in when you zoom in on a picture you just took, you get washed out, pixelated, images.
I tested at 1x, 10x, 20x and 30x, but anything past 10x seems to have the issue really bad. At 10x it has it but not near what it is with 20x and 30x.
So am I expecting to much? Am I missing a setting of some sort?
I don't remember ever having this issue in my s21 ultra at all.
I can upload pics to view if need be, just let me know.
Again, keep in mind these are very simple point and shoot things, nothing raw, nothing edited, just plain simply point and shoot.

Well yeah, these phones have a 3x and a 10x telephoto camera. Everything that isn't 0.6x, 1x, 3x, or 10x is digital. All of the reviews suggest the 20x-100x digital zoom has been improved compared to the S21U, but at the end of the day it's still digital and will never look as good as regular optical.
Digital zoom will always do this. Unless you are using the optical focal lengths, this is expected. If you are having problems with the optical lengths that's a different story.

A couple of unimpressive photos to start the ball rolling.
I haven't had a chance to take many pictures yet, but here are a couple....
These are just from a walk so again nothing special, they are as they were off the phone apart from a resize.

Uploaded a few, will continue to add more when I go for more walks https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/10h48O0MWaZrS-MqNKjGx_xVq13spmFtB
Just more Autumn colours, looking forwards to actually going somewhere rather than just a local walk.
A couple of 30X shots, i cannot decide if 30X is remarkable or terrible, framing is also quite difficult on a moving subject. One thing is for sure you aren't going to win any awards using it.
Loving it so far!
Something about those 2 landscape shots isn't right, the contrast and dynamic range is wrong for a Pixel

You're right! I got my P7P the same day I retired my OP7P and had taken those pics with the OP7P.
I'll remove them, I had forgotten that they were the old phone, I've been so excited about my new one.

You already posted something very similar in another thread, so I assume you're trolling and therefore am reporting your post to the moderators.
Also, OnePlus 7 Pro taking better photos? Yeah... press X to doubt.
A very light polluted area. Basically buildings around and streetlights, but you get the idea, if you go far from the light pollution, Milkyway is not a challenge for the Pixel phone.
Or upscaled 2x with TopazAI (Help of the GPU on the PC) and denoise. (2nd file)

Dam tripod used?
I have Pixel 6 pro and have S22 Ultra, when I do photos side by side, S22 Ultra can't make so good photos. Colours are washed out, details are missing. Even same zoom level photos with pixel have more detail and for example, you can read letters of object you take photo (carbord box with black letters) and on S22 ultra you just get blurry black line.
Expert Raw gives better output, but still can't match Pixel 6 Pro.
So what I see hardware is there and sometimes S22 Ultra comes close, but just point and shoot not satisfied with such camera for price of phone.
Only hope is that Android 13 and software update might get things right. Please share if you know.

I am not saying that there are crappy photos, but mi 11 ultra and Pixel 6 Pro are making better ones. And in all reviews there are this a bit of better detail with Snapdragon version.
So I just looking for ways to get S22 pictures to be natural colour and looking at least like Pixel 6 Pro.
But on paper S22 Ultra should be making better pictures because of all camera modules etc.

yes that's from cheaper pixel 6 pro and it's better
Pixel series from years had and still have very good algorytmics, software and all this make very good work.
Maybe in paper PIxels cameras don't look like other devices but in real this devieces from Google can make very good photos (not always movies) even after updates, and presentation next models (read aging device like samsung can do it)
Samsung do not focuses to do possibility maximum good software like Google in PIxel for cameras because easier and more profits is show new device for samsung.
Pixels have always been the best camera phones simply just for their pre- and post-processing, especially now with Tensor.
I saw reports about the camera quality being worse for the Exynos variant compared to Snapdragon on the S22 Ultra though, so for sure this is a factor as well. Europe just always gets screwed over.
There's not much you can do; did you try using the optimizing feature from the S22 Ultra's gallery/photo editing app? Heard it's pretty good. Otherwise you're probably stuck with either "blurry" photos (still good ones though!) or you need to tweak 'em manually.
