Nandroid/complete phone backup or similar without TWRP? - OnePlus 8T Questions & Answers

Is there a way to perform a nandroid or similar complete backup without a custom recovery like TWRP (which there is none for Android 11 or the Oneplus 8T right now).
I know I could use DD to dump and restore all the partitions, but I am unsure if this would work for the data partition cause it is encrypted. Cause I think the encryption keys are stored in the trustzone and can't be backuped or restored?
Do anyone know of a solution? Would be nice to have a good working backup to fall back to in case I break something when I start modifying the device more.

Hello Qnorsten,
I´m new to OnePlus devices (using a 8T model) and searched also for a backup method just to be shure that I can restore my data after a soft brick throgh a bad magisk mod.
On OnePlus 6T forum I found the magisk module ´migrator´ which can be used for backup and restore data and system data. I will test it the next days if it works for me.
Do you know more about migrator? https://github.com/VR-25/migrator

Can I restore a TWRP backup of my /data partition to a different device?

Hello, I have a Oneplus One whose screen seems to be on the verge of death. The screen is constantly artifacting and flickering and turning off so much it's basically unusable. I was able to make a backup of the /data partition using TWRP recently before this occurred and I managed to pull my music and photos and other important files using ADB. I already performed a screen repair on this phone a while ago (likely the cause of the current issue) and I think I'm going to just get a new phone, likely the Oneplus X. Now I'm wondering if the backup of my /data partition from my OPO will restore nicely on a different device. If not, is there any way I can make a backup of my apps and app data on my OPO with only ADB and no root that will easily transfer to a different device?

You can make a data backup..but unless you install exact android version (e.g from 8.0 one plus one to 8.0 One plus x) on other phone you might face minor problems..
Or you can use pc software like mobogenie/moborobo to make your backup

Ok, in that case would you happen to know where I could find a build of CM13 (Android 6.0.1) for the OPX? If not, do you know if a build of stock Android 6.0.1 would still work? CM shutting down hasn't really made things easier, and Lineage OS doesn't host CM13 builds for the X.
My plan is to flash 6.0.1 to the X as well as root it so that I can backup all the apps using titanium backup, and then wipe the phone again and do a clean install of LineageOS and restore my apps.

I have no idea.. but you can google that...also check the one plus x thread
Recommend--The best option and easiest for you would be using an android desktop manager like moborobo/mobogenie... Give that a try..
Better use Titanium Backup. It's confirmed that it works

Any apps do an identical phone backup?

Can't find an answer to this but does Oneplus Switch do an identical phone backup? If not is there any other app that does?

Root it and use TWRP recovery to have a full device backup. As to backing up your apps and their data, Titanium as previously mentioned it the correct answer....still requires root.
Switch does about 90-95% backup. You will still need to log into accounts and stuff. Some apps dont copy over for whatever reason. I even tried OP7 pro to OP7 pro with same results. Also all your settings will be stock settings. Yes use Titanium backup and or TWRP
Cheers for the replies. It's kinda crap that oneplus switch doesn't save phone & app settings etc. It should make an identical copy.
I have rooted before & backed up with TWRP but I don't know if your all aware that restoring from TWRP not only doesn't work it actually messes your phone up! I got stuck in a fastboot bootloop & had no option to restore the phone using msm on the pc
Switched from titanium to swift backup recently, works much better, full backups nightly kick off automatically.

TWRP Backup Question

I am on the global stable right now, I am interested in trying MIUI 11, but I don't want to give up my last working Google Play Music device ID (and I can't delete any for some months). If I backup the encrypted data partition from this and flash my phone to the the Xiaomi.EU build, can I restore the data in a working fashion later? I haven't tried to restore a data partition since they started encrypting them back in the day.
When I was doing heavy ROM development on the Nexus 6 and LG G3/G4 I didn't have it encrypted so it always worked fine.
Has anyone tried this before?
Nevermind, it won't let me backup data, so I guess I have a serious choice to make.

Mirror one Twrp Backup on another phone

Hi,
I hope someone can answer this question:
I dropped my Oneplus 7pro and the screen cracked. Its still useable but i bought the same model again and want to use the backup of the old phone. I took a full backup from the old phone and now i am not sure if should use the whole backup or f.e. only the system and data image?
Anyone didi this before?
Thx in advance
Edit: Twrp on the new phone didnt even recognize the Backup file from the old one, so I am doing it with Oneplus switch app.
System and data may work. But nothing else. You'll end up with a messed up efs if you do

Stops receiving or making calls

Having weird issues with a Pixel 3 were it will stop making or receiving calls. I can clear the cache and reboot and that often works but I am unsure how many calls I may have missed. Text still works the entire time. I am on the latest Android 11 build with an unlocked bootloader and magisk installed just the restore data with Titanium Backup from previous phone. Not a fan of all the stupidness that got changed/added with Android 12. Willing to try custom roms if that is the right direction. Any thoughts?

If you restored data from Titanium Backup, that may be your problem. Titanium Backup has not been updated for two years, and does not work well with newer versions of Android. The restore part caused the most problems. TB has pretty much been abandoned.

Thanks for the response. I noticed it had not been restoring apps for a while so I just resorted to restoring mostly game data with it. Wondering if I use Easy Backup & Restore to save my data then wipe and reinstall OS and apps then restore data if that would fix it.

It is certainly worth trying. I don't know anything about Easy Backup - I use Swift Backup, and have successfully restored data from one phone to another using it. It might depend on what Android version was on your old phone, though. I recall reading somewhere that restoring data from different Android versions could cause problems.

Finally got around to trying this after replacing the loud speaker on another Pixel 3. Seemed to work well. We will see if this solves the call problems.
