Unlocking boot image for SM-A7160ZCS4BTL1 (CHC) - Samsung Galaxy A71 5G Questions & Answers

I have an unlocked samsung galaxy s71 5g. It is a Chinese model and excludes google as a default login. Everything is part of the samsung ecosystem. I can't root it cos I can't unlock the bootloader. When I download the stock rom and extract the BL.tar.md5 file the only file vaguely reminiscent of boot.img is sboot.bin.lz4.
Help please

You don't need to unlock it. It already includes the Google framework. All you need to do is just install a Play Store apk and login. That's it.

Bootloader is now unlockable. See the thread under the ROMs and Recovery subforum.
As mentioned above, you only n3ed the APK. Alternatively, you may flash an alternate stock ROM through ODIN. As long you flash a ROM from the SM-A716 family and match bootloader version. You will get google features built in if you would prefer.

[Q] Root Canadian galaxy s7

Hello i recently bought a galaxy S7 SM-G930W8 (Canadian / BELL Mobility) and its veen updated to the latest it can which is android 8.0 (oreo) and id really like to root it without havibg to change my stock rom actually id just be glad to get it rooted also the security patch is up2date as of july 1st 2018
The W8 is an exynos model so the bootloader should be unlocked, flash twrp through odin, do a factory reset, reboot to recovery from TWRP itself, flash no-dm-verity zip which should be in your memory card, if you don't have one use mtp in TWRP and copy it to the phone, then install magisk zip and you should be good to go. you can find those two zip files in the forum or just a simple good search.
Did you have any luck rooting the SM-G930W8 on 8.0? I just acquired the Canadian S7 and I'd like to root it, but I know it's different from the American S7's, and all I can find is how to root the Canadian S7 with Nougat.

It doesn't matter which carrier it is, what matters most is the chip and the bootloader, the Canadian variant uses the Exynos soc so the steps are the same just like the international model. Start by unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery, download TWRP for herolte, on your phone enable developer options, then make sure OEM unlock is checked, turn off your phone and boot into Odin, then flash the TWRP image, make sure to uncheck reboot after flash in Odin. Once flashing is done, manually reboot your phone and make sure to enter the recovery mode, do a normal factory reset, the one that asks you to write YES to confirm, then reboot to recovery again, plug your phone to the computer and copy the latest magisk zip then flash it, and that should be it basically.

I thought the Canadian variant with Exynos already had an unlocked bootloader? There are already instructions on how to root my exact model, but the assumption is 7.0.
I have rooted other phones before, and sometimes the requirement for a version of Android before rooting is very specific. I have no idea where to start to even verify whether the bootloader is truly unlocked, whether or not I can proceed with rooting despite having a different Android version (in my case, 8.0, not 7.0), etc.

Sorry there, I guess the correct description would be tripping knox rather than unlocking the bootloader, since you're already familiar with the process then I can tell you its totally the same, nougat and oreo aren't different enough for anything to change, allow OEM unlock, install twrp, do a data wipe, reboot to recovery again, install magisk zip and you're good to go. You might need to flash the dm verity bypass before magisk, that's another zip you can download as well.

Does anyone out there have a Gome U7 and knows how to root it?

I bought this phone in aliexpress and i'm pretty satisfied so far. Except by the fact that it's a totally obscure phone. You can't even find cases for it.
Anyway, the real problem is the lack of root methods. I tried all the root apks out there without success, and there is no known way to unlock the boot loader.
So, as a last effort, i'm trying to find someone that maybe managed to root this phone and could share the knowlege with us. Or at least find some other Gome U7 owners to share this frustation.
Thank you!

From the Aliexpress listing I found, this is MTK6757CD Android 7.1 Nougat. It shouldn't be so difficult to root.
Have you been able to backup / dump the firmware?
Yes, thats the model!.
About the backup, i don't tried it yet, but i supose i can via ADB comands.
The problem is that none of the root apks work, and i can't try to install a root script via the default recovery.
Holy fuc...king cow! I did it!
The dificulty of finding the files for this phone made this task much dificult than it shoul be, but anyway, for the possible people that come accros this thread, that's how i did it:
download the mtk drivers here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/jbxsq68g8dd4gk6/MTK_USB_All_v1.0.8.zip
download the stock rom here: https://cloud.mail.ru/public/8hMx/N7fqf8X62
Put the stock rom's boot.img on your phone;
Install the magisk apk, click install, and then use the patch boot.img function;
Select the boot.img from the stock rom;
After the patch, replace the patched version with the original version on the rom folder on your PC;
Use the SP flash tool to flash it.
And that's it!
I can't believe it took me four days to figure this out hahaha
Anyway, i hope it helps someone. Have a great day.
Edit: unfortunately the bootloader is still locked, so i can't flash magisk modules. Is there a way to use root privelege to unlock it?
@SkynyrdZ The Link you provided for the stock ROM is for USB drivers.
Possible to link to a western Gome U7 stock rom with playstore on?

Is that the only stock ROM out there?
I know it's a chinese phone but it originally had western stock ROM when arrived - As in playstore was available on it. Chinese version is very stubborn in trying to install western apps - Playstore for one does not open when you install via alt options.

I didn't really flash it, i just used the bootloader file on it for the root process. My device came with the stock android rom, with gapps pre-installed.
But as far as i know, you can have play store on any android. Just make sure you install google play services alongside.

I didn't try it because it seens fake to me. Also, the bootloader on this phone is locked, so fastboot comands didn't work when i tried. The only way i could flash anything was with SPtool.
But there's a group out there called twrp builder that compiles the twrp recovery to a lot of devices. I'm trying to put the gome u7 on their queue, but right now, they are busy with a lot of builds.
TWRP recovery for root with magisk from 4PDA Forum.
and firmware. Gome_2017M27A_MT6757_V01 (U7_GM_00_V1.0)
And I found root guide from GOME U Series Forum. (Chinese) It is same as this website.
(I am waiting my U7 delivery too.)

As you said the bootloader can not unlock why it need TWRP for?
The phone bootloader can lock and unlock as will.
Phone in fastboot mode: ADB command "fastboot oem unlock" then Push Vol+ on the phone to confirm unlock.
But I got the boot loop to TWRP every reboot after following steps to root the phone.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (twrp down load at https://unofficialtwrp.com/gome-u7-twrp-3-2-root/)
Boot to recovery ( this Twrp won't save the language which selected)
Format Data
Reboot to recovery again.
Install magisk
install No verity opt encrypt.zip.
wipe Caches/Davik...
reboot to system but it boot loop to recovery (twrp).
I have to reinstall original recovery.img and lock bootloader in order for my phone to boot normal again. After the phone boot up , install magisk.apk manager to get root.
Try to flash patched boot & twrp recovery image inside rar file with SP flash tool v5.1844.00.00 use their scatter file.
Wow, my device just could'nt comunicate with the adb via fastboot. I selcted the OEM unlock on the phone and inatalled the mtk drivers.
What i did wrong?
Also, you said that you had to install the stock recovery to the phone boot again, so you dont have twrp on the phone?

Rooting Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018)

Hi everyone, I hope I am posting this in the correct section, and if not, can an admin move my post to the appropriate place? I am a geek with PC's but mobile is new to me and I would like to root my device which is a Samsung Galaxy J3 (2018) version. I cannot find info here after searching. Here is what I achieved thus far. I downloaded what I think is the firmware file named FirmwareX.Net_J337WVLS2ASC1_J337WOYV2ASC1_PCM_8.0_Full which has my model number SM-J337W and part of build number in the filename. My build number fully is R16NW.J337WVLS2ASC1. The IMEI is 359229091474959.
I downloaded latest odin tool and just about to download TWRP and my model is not in their list and thats where I'm at. Can someone confirm if this is the actual stock firmware rom, and if I am ready to proceed and some steps would be appreciated. I was told by Oneclickroot service that they have a different stock firmware, and just wanted me to pay for something I can probably do on my own, so I'm puzzled by their reply as I had a very hard time finding this firmware which seems to be the closest match. Has anyone here ever rooted this particular device and provide me a sure step by step way to root it? I do have the setting options OEM Unlock and USB Debugging if that helps.

The stock firmware that you downloaded is for your model number but you need to verify that it works with your mobile carrier. If you downloaded the correct firmware for your region and your carrier.
There isn't a TWRP recovery or a known rooting method for your model number. You'll have to try the various universal rooting apps and the various rooting programs for PC and hope of them works.
Or you might can extract the boot.img from the stock firmware that you downloaded then use Magisk on PC to create a modified boot.img then flash that modified boot.img via Odin then reboot the device and install the Magisk root manager app on the device to gain root. If your bootloader is locked, you won't be able to flash the modified boot.img, you'll have to find a method to unlock your bootloader, if one exists for your model number, android version and build number.

Thank you for the reply Droidriven, I thankfully have the option in settings to unlock the bootloader called "OEM Unlock" unlike most other J3's who do not. So basically, you are saying that I can root this device with Magisk with your suggested Magisk method correct? Could you elaborate this method step by step?

I'll explain the "OEM unlock" setting a bit first. The OEM unlock setting does not necessarily unlock your bootloader. On some devices, enabling this setting unlocks bootloader but on most devices it does not actually unlock the bootloader, it only puts the device in a state that the bootloader "can" be unlocked using some form of unlock method after enabling the setting. In these cases, the unlock method would not work without enabling OEM unlock setting before implementing the unlock method.
So, basically, what I'm saying is that even though you have the OEM unlock setting, this does not necessarily mean that your bootloader is unlocked just by toggling this setting, it may still be locked even after toggling the setting. You'll have to verify whether your bootloader is actually unlocked or not. Do some Google searches for:
"Check bootloader status on Samsung devices"
This should give you results to find a method to verify your bootloader status.
Once you have verified that your bootloader is unlocked, you can use the Magisk rooting method. Read the "Boot Image Patching" section in the link below, there are also several other guides all over the internet and videos on YouTube that give instructions on patching your boot.img. As for actually flashing the boot.img, you will be flashing it using Odin. Use 7zip to compress the patched boot.img into a .tar compressed file. When you flash the file using Odin, place .tar file in the AP slot in Odin.

How to unlock Bootloader/OEM in download mode?

Hi all,
I would like to ask how to unlock my bootloader while stuck in download mode?
After an unsuccessful flash of a stock firmware, I was stuck in download mode on my Samsung device and can't install any FW.
While in download mode I get the following message:
Samsung Custom binary (System) blocked by oem lock
Is there any possibility to unlock the bootloader?
Thank you

Thank you for the reply. I’ll try to give all information I can.
My version on the phone was:
G887NKSU2CTI2 from the Provider KTC.
My phone was kind of broken (couldn’t update with an existing update possibility and apps closed by itself even after clean install).
So I wanted to install manually with Odin the latest stock firmware from the provider KTC: G887NKSU2CVH2.
This should be actually no problem, but the flash failed and now I can’t do anything with the phone. The only thing I can find on the internet is to open the bootloader, but I don’t know how I can do this.
I’ve uploaded a picture of how it looks like now. It’s translated because original text was korean.
